Welcome back, dear listeners, to another episode of Healed Now What, where we dive into stories, reflections, tools for healing, self discovery, and living a life that feels deeply aligned. Today, I want to talk about buried treasures. Those gems hidden in plain sight, waiting to be discovered when we learn how to see them. But first, I just want to appreciate the mood in here. I'm currently in my office. And the room is dimly lit only by a candle. And I'm just noticing how much I'm enjoying that watching the flame as I sit here and have this conversation with you. So let's get into it. I'm wondering, have any of you ever gotten into sea glass hunting? Well, let me tell you a story. My husband and I were spending time on Vancouver Island and I had heard about people who would spend hours scouring the sand for sea glass. And at first, I'll admit, I didn't get it. But one day after hearing about it time and time again, I had sea glass on my mind. So I went down to the beach, determined to find some. Day after day after day, I came up empty handed, but I kept going. Then one day. After the Heron Run, which is a spring event where adult Pacific herring gather in large numbers to spawn along the shorelines of Eastern Vancouver Island and Cape Cod, I believe, too. Anyway, it's quite a scene and totally worthwhile to bear witness to at least once in your life if you can. Anyway, the sand was littered with rotting eggs, honestly, so not the most pleasant scene or smell, but something called me toward a piece of driftwood, and there it was, a blue, perfectly tumbled piece of sea glass. I actually think that I let out a squeal of excitement. And from that day on, I was totally hooked. So something shifted in me that day. My eyes were now tuned to see the sea glass. I had trained myself with patience and practice to notice these tiny treasures among the sand and stones. By the end of our time there, I had collected blues, purples, browns, whites, and even the coveted reds and oranges, the holy grails of sea glass. After I was chatting with one of my best friends who lives on the coast and I told her about my seaglass finds And she was totally into it as soon as I brought it up a smile lit up her face And she rushed off to gather her collection to show me so even though I've known her for years. I had no Idea she was into seaglass, too Now we can geek out together about our seaglass hunting adventures, and I had this thought isn't it funny how sometimes? You We discover these hidden connections with people we've known forever. It's like finding a piece of sea glass you've walked past a hundred times. I had a moment of realizing that our life becomes guided by what we focus on. And it's much the same with feeling good and happiness. You have to want it. You have to look for it, and sometimes, most times, you have to make it a daily practice, a ritual, before it just becomes commonplace. Day after day, you show up believing that something better is possible, and eventually, you start seeing the signs that were there all along. And then it becomes second nature. The work isn't easy. It's simple, but it's not easy. It requires repetition, commitment, and a desire to feel better. And as you know, if you've been here listening for a while, it's not just about working with the mind, but also the body. It's about getting to know the real you, the whole you as you unfold and change. There's this quote from Stuart Wilde. who is a British metaphysical teacher, who was a British metaphysical teacher. I believe he passed on in 2013. Anyway, this quote really resonates here. He had this statement that he teaches for moments when our brain is being a bit difficult. He said, Thank you mind, but I do not accept any energy that is contrary to the unlimited power that lies within me. Such a good quote. I actually wrote in my daytimer. I really like it. Quite often, the most profound teachings are the simplest ones. And as we keep digging on this journey of self empowerment, we're often astonished by what we uncover. I've seen it in my own life and in the lives of countless clients I've worked with. Together, we learn to make our joy apparent. our sadness apparent. We learn to normalize our longing, our yearning, our suffering, and our compassion. And while we're on the topic of discovery, let me tell you another story. I love sharing these stories. So recently I started taking online singing lessons with Ken Tamplin. Now, if you've ever seen his lessons, you know, he has big energy and an even bigger voice. So these courses are just on demand. I'm not training one on one with Ken Tamplin, but anyway, I said to my husband, Tim, I Can't believe I've been in this body for 44 years and only now am I beginning to discover my voice. It's range, it's nuance, it's shy moments, it's party moments. It's kind of like discovering a stranger who's been living inside of me all along. And that is like somatic work. You just never know what's hidden under all of the debris. The old beliefs, the stories we've carried, the ways that we've quit before we even got started. Listen, I used to believe I was tone deaf. I told myself I sucked at singing. I even carried a story about being kicked out of choir, which honestly, I think that was my dad's story, not mine. But I adopted it because it fit my narrative. And here's the thing about stories, about beliefs. They're just practice thoughts. And thoughts can change. Beliefs can change once we question them. Have you ever shared a memory with someone only to realize their recollection was completely different? It happens all the time. Our memories are shaped by who we are, by our lived experiences, by our lens on the world. We don't see things as they are. We see things as we are. When we commit to exploring something new, something unknown, and likely a little scary, it often becomes the most rewarding experience. It challenges our beliefs about ourselves and about the world. And this reminds me of another story, and it's a story that was shared by Ram Dass. It's one he used to tell about a salesman who undergoes a spiritual awakening, and I'll really shorten it up. So a salesman grows tired and frustrated with his life. Feeling trapped, he leaves everything behind and embarks on a spiritual quest. He meditates, meets wise teachers, and experiences a profound awakening. Eventually he returns home and resumes his job as a salesman. But this time, everything feels different. The same streets, the same people, and the same job are now imbued with meaning and presence. The salesman realized that it wasn't his job or his life that needed to change, it was his perspective. And maybe that's part of the treasure that we're all looking for, is a shift in perspective. The ability to see the sea glass in the sand, the beauty in the ordinary. The power in the stories we tell ourselves. So my friends, as we come to a close, I'm wondering what treasures might be hiding in plain sight for you. What stories are waiting to be rewritten? As always, thank you so much for listening. Life is busy. So it means even more that you're carving out time in your day to be here.
