In this episode, I share a spoken word piece that reclaims the meaning of “woke” from my own lived experience.

For me, “woke” isn’t a label or a debate—it’s awareness that comes from surviving, from paying attention, and from refusing to ignore what’s real. It’s about understanding trauma, honoring boundaries, and seeing the world with clarity, even when that truth makes others uncomfortable.

This piece is raw, personal, and rooted in truth. It speaks to what it means to stay conscious in a world that often asks us to look away.

If you’ve ever been dismissed, labeled, or misunderstood for simply telling the truth about your experience—this one is for you.

Baseline — from The Ground Did Not Move

Baseline opens the soundscape with a steady, grounding presence—a return to center when everything else feels uncertain. This track comes from JS Worldbridger’s album The Ground Did Not Move, a body of work rooted in stability, resilience, and the quiet strength of staying when the world around you shifts.

The tone of Baseline is intentional. It invites the listener to land, to breathe, t

The Long Enough Pause is an invitation to step out of urgency and into stillness.

In a world that constantly pushes for more—more doing, more fixing, more noise—this track offers something different: permission to stop. Not for a moment of escape, but for a moment of return.

The sound unfolds slowly, with spacious tones and gentle resonance, creating a place where nothing is required and nothing is rushed. It’s the space between breaths, the quiet after overwhelm, the

I'm woke because I'm healing. Because I stop lying to myself to keep other people comfortable. I speak my truth even when it costs me proximity. I set boundaries and I keep them. That's not ideology that survival with clarity. Woke isn't love, woke is aware, woke is knowing what your body can carry and what it cannot anymore. This is what woke means to me. I am sovereign in my body. I am sovereign in my time. This is what woke means to me. I am sovereign in my body. I am sovereign in my time. I am sovereign in my nervous system. I don't ask permission to protect myself. I don't negotiate my limits. I don't disappear to make others feel powerful. The chapter on caregiving closed when I watch my mother die. That door didn't creak it shut. It will never be reopened. Walk means I take responsibility for myself. I arrange my own care, I manage my own life. I don't assign my needs and call it obligation. That's adulthood, that's accountability. I don't demean others to feel strong. I don't need dominance to exist. My values guide my actions, and my actions don't contradict my values. This is what woke means to me. Consent is required, access is not automatic, no is complete. If my boundaries make you uncomfortable, that discomfort is yours to hold. And hear this clearly. Once you call a woman who served on a ship, but the hire you swoke as an insult. You lose access to me. I am a woman, I am a navy veteran. Disrespect is not disagreement, it is a disqualifier. That door closes permanently. Oh, is this not aggression? Boundaries are not cruelty. Self-respect is not negotiable. This is what a woke means to me. Oh, is this not aggression? Boundaries are not cruelty. Self-respect is not negotiable. I'm woke because I'm awake and I'm not going back to sleep.
