It felt really strange. I expected fear and I could feel nothing. I checked in with myself once again to be sure I had a practice of checking in with my body for any new goals that I set for myself. This has served me well in the past. Whenever I feel a bit lost or confused, connecting to my body helps ground me, especially if I paired it with walking barefoot on the grass. This time, however, things were different. There was mostly silence and at first I didn't fully understand why. Welcome to Embrace Your Healing Journey, a podcast for women living with autoimmune and chronic conditions who had done being overwhelmed by everything they are supposed to do to get better. This show is built on one belief your body is not the enemy. It is wise, responsive and on your side even when it doesn't feel that way. I am an independent functional medicine certified health coach, founder of Body Wise Healing and creator of The Effortless Healing Companion. I've spent a decade working alongside women with chronic illness, and what I know is this healing doesn't require more protocols. It requires coming home to yourself. Each week. This podcast is a place to do exactly that wherever you are in your journey. However hard this week has been, if you're ready to embrace healing with compassion and awareness, not hustle and self-blame, this show is for you. What we are taught to do with silence. Most of us were never taught to sit with the body that isn't speaking. We were taught to investigate it, track it, test it, supplement it, and in any way possible push it towards an answer. We are told to keep trying, keep forcing until we get what we believe is the only solution. The whole architecture of modern wellness assumes your body is always broadcasting, and even if you can't hear it, you just need better equipment. So we add more. More tests, more protocol, more questions, and we often end up treating the silence like a problem that we haven't solved yet. What silence actually is. This is what I've been sitting with in week two of this building phase. My body hasn't been loud. It hasn't been sending clear signals or obvious cuz I'm used to that. And the old version of me, the coach who was trained to find the pattern, name the root cause, build the protocol would have found that uncomfortable. But something is shifting in how I understand this now. Silence isn't emptiness. It's often a sign of gestation. It tells us that something is brewing, something that doesn't have a shape or form yet. The thing is, the body doesn't always communicate in sensation. Sometimes it communicates in stillness. Sometimes the most honest thing it can offer you is not yet, but rarely, if ever, do we have the patience to wait. Traditional coaching doesn't know what to do with that. It's built for what's already audible, whether it's a symptom that has presented itself, the complaints that we have, or the thing that can be measured or tracked when the body goes quiet, the usual tools don't work as effectively. What the companion asked that nothing else does. The questions are built into the Effortless Healing Companion are different from anything I was trained to ask as a coach. Traditional coaching asks, what's the problem? What's your goal? What's getting in the way? The companion asks, what do you notice? And if it's nothing, what does that nothing feel like to you at this moment? That distinction matters more than it might seem at first glance. The first set of questions requires your body to already have an answer. The second set doesn't. It just asks you to show up and pay attention, even if what you find is absence, fog, or stillness that you can't yet name. There is no expectation to have an answer, and there is certainly no expectation to perform, just an invitation to be present. Building a tool that reflects alongside you. This is why I build the companion the way I did. Not as something that gives you more information or enhances your knowledge, and certainly not as another voice telling you what to do next. Or one more thing you need to add to your to do list. But as something that sits with you, whether it's in the silence or in the uncertainty, or even in the weeks when nothing feels like it's happening and everything actually is deep inside. You just can't feel it yet. Reflection not instruction. Witness not fix. And that's not a feature. That's a philosophy. And it comes directly from learning in my own body that the most important moments in healing are often the ones that look nothing from the outside. You see, when I sat with silence, with the same silence for a while, what I noticed was that there was a strange calm. Even in the midst of all the uncertain uncertainty in my life, I finally understood that what I had thought to be a void was actually unfolding in its own time. I needed to trust its timing. The unknown is not empty. It is full of what hasn't been revealed yet. The invitation. What if silence is the first signal? What if your body speaking in whispers and not at all, is actually it asking for a different kind of listening? The daily body check in I've created isn't designed to get you answers.
