REPRESENTED with Annie Gichuru
Welcome to REPRESENTED, the podcast.
This is your weekly dose of inspiration that’ll support you to build a racially inclusive online business without letting the fear of getting it wrong get in the way. These episodes will provide insights, strategies, and discussions that break down barriers and empower you to navigate the racial equity landscape.
I’m Annie Gichuru, your host as well as a Racial Equity Coach who supports online business owners such as coaches, course creators, membership owners and group program facilitators. It’s my calling in nature and ability to break-down complex and often uncomfortable conversations around race that has seen me teach over 100 online business owners to be more racially inclusive through my online program REPRESENTED.
Be sure to subscribe, rate and review so this podcast can reach more online business owners and begin to not only normalise racial inclusion in the online coaching space but see us actively shift our perspectives.

53. AI & Business: What Every Online Business Owner Needs to Know About Bias
AI is everywhere right now. From content creation to time management, it’s making running an online business easier than ever. But what if I told you that the very tools we rely on could be harming our businesses and our communities without us even realising it?
In today’s episode, I'm tackling something that’s rarely talked about in online business: AI bias. AI isn’t neutral. It’s shaped by the people who create it, which means it can reflect racial, gender, and systemic biases that exclude or misrepresent entire groups of people.
And here’s the thing...if we, as business owners, don’t pay attention to this, we could be reinforcing discrimination in our marketing, our coaching, and our programs without even knowing it.
In this episode, I share:
✔️ Personal experiences with AI bias: from facial recognition that failed to detect my face to social media platforms blocking voices that should be heard.
✔️ How AI bias can show up in the online business space: and why it matters for you as a coach or course creator.
✔️ What the ‘coded gaze’ is and why Dr. Joy Buolamwini’s research on AI bias completely changed the way I see these tools.
✔️ What you can do to make sure your business isn’t unintentionally excluding people because of AI’s hidden biases.
This is an important conversation for anyone using AI in their business and even though you haven't dipped your toe in AI yet, you'll want to tune in. So if you want to be a business owner who is both innovative and ethical, this episode is one you can’t afford to skip.
And to help you take the next step, I’ve put together a Free AI Bias Guide. It's a practical resource for coaches and course creators who want to understand AI bias and start using these tools more responsibly.
