I always love finding a cool potion more than another magic shield or returning dagger. Much in the way that firearms make all beings tall, potions are a way for anyone to access the wonderful and awesome power of magic. A great way to add some variety to your loot placement, potions and alchemical products serve a variety of purposes for advancing the story or simply providing a variety of capabilities for your PCs. And if you ever wonder why so many corpses are found with healing potions on them, just remember how many times you've seen a gamer beat a game with an inventory full of consumables saved for 'when I really need it'.
