coryne:I love the way this episode opens with like, the baby shower comes up and Miranda is just Disgusted. She is disgusted at the idea of it. She is disgusted at like the, the, that the girls are even entertaining the fact that they're going to go like completely put out with the whole concept of said baby shower. And then I love how like, cause we don't know who Lainey is yet. Yeah, we met her in a previous episode, but it's like, do you remember, you know, So, or did we meet her in a previous episode? I can't remember. I don't know.
francene:I don't think we did.'cause it's only Carrie's guy friends with her. Right. That missed the weird guy friends. Here's this random girlfriend and we're like, oh, she has other friends or
coryne:girls I know. And they were all friends with her is the like they all,'cause that's what we see in the episode. It's like they flash back, which I love. I love switch back. Oh my God. The hair that.
francene:Like Miranda's hair is like a bowl cut and
coryne:very bright as well. Samantha's hair. Long. It was long and then she had it like styled up like all 80s vibes. So good. That hairstyle was so good. Oh, but I love the the thing that convinces them to go is what Carrie says where she's like they're like, why would we go? Why would we go? And Carrie's like, listen, if you're on a road trip, And you see a sign for a two headed snake, you stop and see the snake, like Lainey's having, yeah, Lainey's having a baby, and I was like, oh my god, and then so they agree to go, which I'm like, hilarious, and they do a great flashback of like, their party times with this chick, and she was obviously like, Very loose. Samantha on steroids. Yes.
francene:Yeah. IE taking her clothes off, being the life and soul of the party, being like, yeah, do you wanna see my
coryne:tit? Yeah. Which I love. And she was like, in, I don't think I've ever had a friend like that. Oh, I, I have that friend. I had that friend, which I actually thought about. And this episode I was like, cut her boobs out all the time. All the time. Like literally it was like a joke of non like, I mean it was like, you know, five, four. Yep. coryne:had. Now I'll say she never, she rarely did it without, she would show her bra a lot in public. Oh, okay. She rarely did it where it was like full on. Yeah. But yeah, she did that too. But it was less common than like literally. Every time we were out in public, that girl was going to flash her bra to whomever, and people who didn't want to see. Oh my god, that's so funny. She could not then marry an investment banker and have a baby. Yes.

coryne:label. That's what it was. She was in a record label and like, that was her career. It was traveling and having sex with rock stars.
francene:And what I love too, is when they did the flashback and I quoted Samantha when she's like, okay, does anyone want to see my tits? And Samantha goes, that's so sad. And then she yells, take it off. So they talk about that, like, between them, which I love
coryne:these last, this episode was such an interesting insight into Samantha's insecurities, which I was like, Oh, I don't like this for you. I don't want you to have any insecurities. It's like, this is why I love you. They really dived into it. And that was the thing that convinced Samantha to go to the baby shower, where she was like, yeah, I'll go. She's got to be so fat. Like, oh wow. You really want to kick this chick while she's down. Okay.
francene:So tell me. Because I feel coming from the UK, and I know baby showers are now a bit more of a thing, they were, they were not a thing when I was in the UK. I feel like it's only become more of a thing. Whereas when we moved here, I remember immediately after a couple of months, we were invited to like a joint baby shower, like the, the the mom and dad. Yeah. And I dragged like Aaron with me and he was just like, what the fuck? And then they were talking about, you know, like their baby stories and everyone was so graphic and, oh,
coryne:and then this was years before y'all had a child. So it was like, yeah, 10
francene:years ago. And then you're seeing like them open up presents. You're like, I don't know what any of this stuff is. And, but how, how do you feel about like,
coryne:we're in the South and I'm from here. So baby showers have always been a big thing. Like, I can remember as a young, young child, like going with my mom to them, like always been a thing. Oh, no way. Always. Yeah. But they have gotten completely fucking ridiculous in the last 10 plus years. And couple showers, brand new. That was never a thing. I don't love

The, they did a great job of like, just blowing out all those stereotypes of like the worst of the worst, you know, and like, yeah, but wait, before they get there when they're getting ready to go. So, to go, because they're New York City girls, they have to rent a car. Which was hilarious. Yeah. And then they all like gathered to get in the car and go and they get there and then carrie's like, oh shit, I forgot to get her a present. Yeah, and Samantha and Samantha's like, oh, you can go in on mine and a bottle of Scotch and Oh, and Samantha's wearing like, she literally just left the club I know at like 2:00 AM like completely open front talking on he, yeah. Like to be completely open front. Nearly there top. Yeah. It's like the tiniest thing. No bra. Yeah, no bra. I mean, when did she never wear a bra? No, I know. Like, I never think Samantha wears I don't think Carrie wears a lot of bras either. I don't think so either. Which I love.

So it was like very intentional. And the woman who owned it, they originally intended to live there. So obviously, she was building that for her. That closet was amazing. You guys also had a cute backyard. It was a cute little backyard. That was a great house. We tried to buy it, but they had renovated it. Like a year before we moved into it and we were renting it. And so they just hadn't owned it long enough. And then Jason and I actually tried to buy it. It went on the market. Like, no way from the same people. Yeah, they still owned it and they finally put it on the market. And I love to stock HAR. Like it's a silent, obviously you do too. Same. Yeah, silent obsession. I was gonna say the same. And it randomly came up and I was like, and I showed Jason and it was like perfectly in our price range, but the interest rates were, you know, Like, we could have sold the house we live in and bought that house and like, I mean within 20, 000 of each other. coryne:Tari's dress. Yeah, all wearing black. Yeah. That's like, again, they're like, we're going to a funeral. And they get there and it's like the quintessential suburban. And Charlotte just like cracks me up in every scene of this. Like from the moment they get out of the car, and all three of the women are like, Oh my God, this, ha, this neighborhood. And Charlotte's like. I feel
francene:like this is when I'm Charlotte. I totally relate to all of it. And then poor little dog with his collar

francene:Well she touches on it. I didn't know she had sisters, but do you remember the episode where her mom and her sister and husband were like super shitty with her? So I remember a sister. Yeah, I don't

But she mentions it more than once in the episode where she's like, this is where, I've watched it happen to my sisters, I guess where they get married and have babies. Yeah. And like, become these, she says it's a cult.
francene:Yeah, I love hearing that, which, honestly, when I was listening to this episode and looking back on Reflection, because you're right, going to baby showers when you don't have a kid, it's very different. Yeah. But also when your friends have kids and you don't, it is sometimes very much like kid discussions. Yeah. Especially more early on.
coryne:Yeah, it's so hard when they're little, like, It's all you can talk about because it's literally like your whole life. Yeah, like it's all you're doing. It is It's like all you can do like it's assuming you
francene:And like I do feel like bad for like some of well not bad But like some of our friends that don't have kids if they're around a group and like I have a group of friends We're like we all have kids bar some that it is some good times A consuming conversation, not as inclusive, but then it's harder to relate to like, Hey, what are you doing this weekend? It's like, well, I have no time. We're doing
coryne:soccer practice. We got bedtime. I know, I know you just got to quit. That's one of the reasons why I, and this is completely me trying to like, Stave off the cold is like one of the reasons I refuse to move out of the city Yeah, because it's something that Michael and I used to say all the time It's like the city and it it's it has permeated out to I mean where you guys are now, too Yeah, where it's like you can go to so many cool bars Yeah, breweries things like that and everybody just brings their kids and it's like We're somehow tricking the system. We're still cool enough to be out having drinks with friends and like be relevant, but our kids are with us and like, you're doing it both. But it's like, you're forced into these situations with people that otherwise you wouldn't be friends with, you know? And it's like, I always feel like the outsider. Like, I always feel like, I don't want to talk about what color rug you picked for that room. No,

francene:fine. But what I love about when they get out the car is Carrie's like classic line of, Oh, Toto, we're not in Manhattan anymore. And they're all looking up to the house being like,
coryne:Oh, And then Charlotte's so excited. And then they walk in and Lainey's there. And she greets them with the exact same shrill party girl. She's like, Like we're about to do tequila shots today and she's super pregnant, like 94 months pregnant and they, and they walk in and the actresses that they got to play all the moms at the party. That's how I felt like baby Charlotte's prior. Yes. It's like, that is like, that's my nightmare. That's what I'm afraid of becoming is every one of those women. And they're like introducing them around and then looks on the four spaces like stomach virus
francene:outside of Charlotte. He's like, oh my god, I want to be one of you. I know,
coryne:I know, she can't get enough.
francene:But even like one of them, that kind of floats past, that you know you've been in that situation where you're having a conversation with a friend and someone just thingies in. Yeah. And, I don't know, I felt really bitchy saying this, but she's like, oh. I just love my son so much. I tell him he's a god every day. Okay. And they're like, of course he's gonna turn into an asshole. No,
coryne:I love that Miranda's like, what's the chance you think in 30 years that any woman's ever gonna make him happy? And I was like, girl, if I don't relate to that shit right there, like, oh my god. We're like,
francene:oh my god, we're helping ourselves. Or like the other one, oh, like the little boy and the woman, they're like, oh, we just call them like the old married couple. But now it's awkward, she's going through a divorce. And you're like, oh, that might be

coryne:Yeah. Like, maybe that is why. Like, that's, oh my god. That whole, and then the girls that are there when they first come in. And Lainey's like, these are my friends in the city. We used to have fun together. And they're like remember then that was all you had. Yeah. Yeah. Like.
francene:Or we didn't think you'd be able to make it or something. I was like, what a dickish comment, right? We could just be like,
coryne:I'm just gonna go. Both of your names are Karen. Yeah, right? Like that, I just, I hate seeing women do that to each other in general because even if you're not my kind of woman, I don't need to tear you down. Like, I know. You're just like, yay, you came. francene:it does. We didn't have any content at that point. But yeah, I did write, I was like, Oh my god, Charlotte is in her element. And what we failed to mention, actually, is, I think, sprinkled in the in between them going to the baby shower, Carrie realizes that she's late. Oh, that's

francene:Yes. Yeah. So she's kind of going through the motions of like, and she's
coryne:significantly late. Like when she first realized that she said it was like three or four days. And then by the time they go to shower seven days late. No, I know. That's late.
francene:Well, I don't know. I appreciate that some people like their cycles different. I'm clockwork. Like, I am fully, like, the day I do, I'm, like, due. Yeah. So then if there's any lateness, I'm, like, oh. You know something's up. Yeah, something's up. Yeah, for sure. But also, I'm, like, I don't know, knowing how Carrie is with, like, how she spirals out, and I know she does kind of mentally on this, but if it was me, I would just immediately get test and test.
coryne:Immediately, day three. And just, like, She's like, I know, I know. Yeah. That is a very interesting dynamic for her to be having to run through those thoughts in her head of the maybe while she's at a baby shower. I know. Yeah.
francene:And I appreciate how they played that that
coryne:storyline. Yeah. And I loved as they're at the baby shower, they haven't been there 5 to 6 minutes. Charlotte's sitting next to me on the couch with a huge like present bow on her head, helping her open gifts. And he's doing that. Oh my
francene:God.
coryne:Like that total thing. It's funny that we're talking about all this because I have an invitation in my mailbox. That is to a baby shower. And when I go, I'm going to be like, Oh
francene:God, I need to be that person. Get some pictures, get some content.
coryne:Watch out on social guys. But
francene:you know what I also found interesting and I know. For any of y'all that, like, are watching along with us or you've seen it before, it's interesting seeing Carrie go through the motions of, oh my god, is this for me? Like, Like, is this my time? Versus, in future seasons, knowing what's happened previously, and knowing truly how she feels. I know. Because even, what was it, last episode or the one before, when she's with Stanford, and she's looking at his grandpictures, and she's like, oh, I really want a family. I'm like, that's truly not the Carrie that we She becomes.
coryne:No, at all. At all. And I had the exact So that's interesting. Yeah, I had the same thought, too, of her and of Samantha in this episode, because And the episodes coming, like the next couple. Yeah. That is not the Samantha we all Yeah. Grew to love so much in her character. Like they definitely are showing and honestly, maybe it's like a more well rounded version. And as they mature as characters, they kind of hone it in. But yeah, Carrie with a kid. No, like that's not her vibe at all. And can you imagine if she and all of her cray cray had like just gone to big with it immediately? Yeah. Like I know that would have been a whole three freaking thing. Which in, in all of the crazy we've seen from her.

coryne:Yeah, she didn't even tell him that she thought like that. She was late or that, you know what I mean? Like no conversation about it. It's very interesting. It is
francene:very odd. And what also like cracked me up is so Carrie hadn't told anyone at that point. So her and Miranda are sitting outside and I always appreciate it. And now we're starting to see, I think this is the first time we Well, I know they go on walks and stuff, but, like, I always appreciated, like, Carrie and Miranda's relationship, and they were always very real with one another, and a little bit deeper, I think, than Samantha and Charlotte. But when they're sitting outside, Miranda says, you know, the witch and Hansel and Gretel, she was really misunderstood. She built her house, her dream house, and then these little shits came and ate it. Ha! That made me laugh so much. It's true,
coryne:right? That's a good point. I know. That's so funny. She tried to fake that. Yeah. No, that's a perfect Miranda thing to say too. Like always the cynic seeing it from the other side. I love that.
francene:And then Charlotte is then inside sitting with Lainey. Whatever they're talking about, Lainey then says, or her friend says, Oh, and when Shayla, She
coryne:says the boy name too, because I guess they don't know yet. What was it? Was it Jack? No. It's a boy name, so I didn't remember it. I
francene:never even wrote it down. But
coryne:she's like, when little Jack or Shayla arrives at Charlotte immediately, on defense, Lainey has stolen her stuff. Secret special baby name so
francene:high school, but I love Charlotte for
coryne:it. Have I told you my story about this? No, tell me I told you this. Okay, so so funny if this guy ever hears this podcast, but so one of my fairly serious boyfriends in my 20s Was we dated for like a year and he I went to high school with him So our families knew each other and like, you know But everybody wanted us to get married and it was not to be But in the course of our relationship together, of course, like at some point we talked about like baby I never really had like a girl name picked out, but I always loved the name Jackson for a boy, like a really Southern. I loved it, but I wanted to spell it J X O N to be different. Cause you know, I love different names. Anyway, fast forward, we break up, fast forward a couple of years. He knocks this girl up, right. And he and I remained friends after we broke up. So I get invited to The baby shower with my mom. Cause again, our families had known each other for years. His mom is the whole thing. Right. I get to go to the baby shower, which was a tad, like I was a little bit, I was single at the time that I went. And it was a little bit like I went, but I was like, this could really go awry. I remember thinking just to some of the posts she was doing and I was like I can't help but feel weirdly she's going to call her daughter Luna. Very odd, right? So I remember texting one of my best friends, actually it was Anne, and she messaged me back and was just like, Girl, this world is not, like, revolving around you. She was like, why would you think that someone is like, no, she was totally like, that is crazy. And I was like, you're right. But I was like, I know it's crazy, but I promise you. Anyway, we were messaging with, like, the girl Annie, that called her daughter Luna Ray. What are the odds? And I messaged and she did a different spelling. It's like L O U N A, which is beautiful. That is cool. And I messaged her being like, Oh my God, I love this so much. But I was like, just so you know, and I'm committed to it. I was like, we're also calling, you know, Luna, Luna Rose. And you know what I loved about it? Like going back to like girls supporting girls, she was so like, I love this. This is awesome. She was like, they're going to grow up together. I understand like the extremeness of like when you are pregnant or you do have a change of life, like if you were going to move to the burbs, like it really is like such a transition. So like I feel her, but it's like normally those moments are done like on her own. But again, I think that's very relatable in the moment she's in now, whereas we all know in a couple of weeks, but yeah, when the baby's here and you're like, Oh God, this is so worth it. Like, this is great. And then to your point, a couple of years later, you're then like, okay, cool. I have this. I can be, I can

I feel like it's I don't think I realized it until she had been here for a couple weeks, but it's like such a Having a baby happens to you the mom, you know what I mean? Like it doesn't happen to the dad. It doesn't And like they can be as great as they want to be. It doesn't matter. It happens to you. And like, it is such a, it's life changing, of course, but it's also like, there's so much that we don't talk about. It's like, you know, it was the greatest moment of my life. And like, It took me a year to feel like the fog lifted of like, just like not just not being a fucking anxious nightmare all the time, worried that she was going to stop breathing.
