francene:

And I was like, oh, Ron, I was like, tonight we're doing three episodes, probably I'm gonna get some wine. And he was like, oh, I love that so much. And then he was like what is it again? And I'm like, I don't know if I want to like tell you. You know what I mean? Don't listen to, I'm like, I'm, because I told him, I'm like, we just have so much fun. And I was like, the amount of time, because I could hear myself like, snort, and I'm like editing it, but I'm like, it's just. It's so fun. And I love doing it, but he was like, Oh yeah, let me look it up. And I was like, Oh God, I'm just imagining like driving home with a thing to like me being like, yeah, yeah, yeah.

coryne:

I know. Blowjob. Love that. Like, Ooh, One of my very, my very favorite client who's been with me for a really long time and who is single handedly become like my own marketing team for my business. Awesome. I love him. We had this conversation a couple months ago and I came up that I was doing a podcast because he does one. He's like, what's it about? And I was like, well, actually, we had this whole talk about sex in the city and like, he knew all about it. And he's like, send it to me. And I totally did. And then like, Six episodes in, I was like, man, if Toner's listening to this, and I saw him last week, we did some stuff for his work, and he didn't bring it up, but I was like hey, Toner, if you're listening thanks for not embarrassing me in person that you heard all this now, but it's fine, right? I'm just letting it all out. It's

francene:

a great one. So we are in person. For episode 10, the baby showers. So we have some bubbles, which we'll, we'll open the next one. Like, yeah, we'll have

coryne:

to open it on Mike. We'll see if Corrine can do it faster. Of course, the one I just opened, no problems. And like the next one will be a bitch

francene:

watch. Actually, we need to remember, cause I put

coryne:

it in the freezer. Oh yes. Okay. I think I

francene:

should take it out now. No, I think it'll be okay.

coryne:

It's fine. Yeah, I'll be fine. We'll get back to you guys if that completely exploded in the freezer while we were doing

francene:

this. Okay, so Season 1, Episode 10, The Baby Shower. So the girls are attending a baby shower for their friend Lainey who was like a crazy partier.

coryne:

I love the way this episode opens with like, the baby shower comes up and Miranda is just Disgusted. She is disgusted at the idea of it. She is disgusted at like the, the, that the girls are even entertaining the fact that they're going to go like completely put out with the whole concept of said baby shower. And then I love how like, cause we don't know who Lainey is yet. Yeah, we met her in a previous episode, but it's like, do you remember, you know, So, or did we meet her in a previous episode? I can't remember. I don't know.

francene:

I don't think we did.'cause it's only Carrie's guy friends with her. Right. That missed the weird guy friends. Here's this random girlfriend and we're like, oh, she has other friends or

coryne:

girls I know. And they were all friends with her is the like they all,'cause that's what we see in the episode. It's like they flash back, which I love. I love switch back. Oh my God. The hair that.

francene:

Like Miranda's hair is like a bowl cut and

coryne:

very bright as well. Samantha's hair. Long. It was long and then she had it like styled up like all 80s vibes. So good. That hairstyle was so good. Oh, but I love the the thing that convinces them to go is what Carrie says where she's like they're like, why would we go? Why would we go? And Carrie's like, listen, if you're on a road trip, And you see a sign for a two headed snake, you stop and see the snake, like Lainey's having, yeah, Lainey's having a baby, and I was like, oh my god, and then so they agree to go, which I'm like, hilarious, and they do a great flashback of like, their party times with this chick, and she was obviously like, Very loose. Samantha on steroids. Yes.

francene:

Yeah. IE taking her clothes off, being the life and soul of the party, being like, yeah, do you wanna see my

coryne:

tit? Yeah. Which I love. And she was like, in, I don't think I've ever had a friend like that. Oh, I, I have that friend. I had that friend, which I actually thought about. And this episode I was like, cut her boobs out all the time. All the time. Like literally it was like a joke of non like, I mean it was like, you know, five, four. Yep. There's her boobs, like you had

francene:

your Leni friend

coryne:

had. Now I'll say she never, she rarely did it without, she would show her bra a lot in public. Oh, okay. She rarely did it where it was like full on. Yeah. But yeah, she did that too. But it was less common than like literally. Every time we were out in public, that girl was going to flash her bra to whomever, and people who didn't want to see. Oh my god, that's so funny. She could not then marry an investment banker and have a baby. Yes.

francene:

Well, and I literally wrote down the Laney word for the A& R record

coryne:

label. That's what it was. She was in a record label and like, that was her career. It was traveling and having sex with rock stars.

francene:

And what I love too, is when they did the flashback and I quoted Samantha when she's like, okay, does anyone want to see my tits? And Samantha goes, that's so sad. And then she yells, take it off. So they talk about that, like, between them, which I love

coryne:

these last, this episode was such an interesting insight into Samantha's insecurities, which I was like, Oh, I don't like this for you. I don't want you to have any insecurities. It's like, this is why I love you. They really dived into it. And that was the thing that convinced Samantha to go to the baby shower, where she was like, yeah, I'll go. She's got to be so fat. Like, oh wow. You really want to kick this chick while she's down. Okay.

francene:

So tell me. Because I feel coming from the UK, and I know baby showers are now a bit more of a thing, they were, they were not a thing when I was in the UK. I feel like it's only become more of a thing. Whereas when we moved here, I remember immediately after a couple of months, we were invited to like a joint baby shower, like the, the the mom and dad. Yeah. And I dragged like Aaron with me and he was just like, what the fuck? And then they were talking about, you know, like their baby stories and everyone was so graphic and, oh,

coryne:

and then this was years before y'all had a child. So it was like, yeah, 10

francene:

years ago. And then you're seeing like them open up presents. You're like, I don't know what any of this stuff is. And, but how, how do you feel about like,

coryne:

we're in the South and I'm from here. So baby showers have always been a big thing. Like, I can remember as a young, young child, like going with my mom to them, like always been a thing. Oh, no way. Always. Yeah. But they have gotten completely fucking ridiculous in the last 10 plus years. And couple showers, brand new. That was never a thing. I don't love

francene:

couple showers. Yeah. I like them when they're just like, Both of them together and seeing the guy being like, Oh my God,

coryne:

what is that for?

francene:

You put it up the nose and you suck it. Cause I remember having that reaction and being like, what are the

coryne:

nipple cream? You don't need this many diapers. Why are we doing this? And you're like, Oh, buckle up. We need hundreds. That's week one and two, Bubba. That's like comment down. It's such an interesting thing too, because that perspective of like going to a baby shower before you're a mom. But. Versus after you're a mom. Yeah. It's so different. Because before you're like, Ugh, like what are we doing? And now, like, have you been to one since you've had Luna? I have. And now I feel

francene:

You can't help it. Like you But now I also feel like, I'm like, educated. So I'm like, oh my god. Let me tell you what I use. So good. Whereas before I'd be like, Oh my God, I'm going to buy you like these little onesies with the tiny little buttons. Whereas now I'm like, yeah. Yeah. Zips the bottom of the top,

coryne:

top down. Like

francene:

yeah, I do feel, yes, you're right. It's

coryne:

very different. Connect the thing. Like, yeah, no, it's very, it's very different for sure. But this baby shower, I feel like was. The, they did a great job of like, just blowing out all those stereotypes of like the worst of the worst, you know, and like, yeah, but wait, before they get there when they're getting ready to go. So, to go, because they're New York City girls, they have to rent a car. Which was hilarious. Yeah. And then they all like gathered to get in the car and go and they get there and then carrie's like, oh shit, I forgot to get her a present. Yeah, and Samantha and Samantha's like, oh, you can go in on mine and a bottle of Scotch and Oh, and Samantha's wearing like, she literally just left the club I know at like 2:00 AM like completely open front talking on he, yeah. Like to be completely open front. Nearly there top. Yeah. It's like the tiniest thing. No bra. Yeah, no bra. I mean, when did she never wear a bra? No, I know. Like, I never think Samantha wears I don't think Carrie wears a lot of bras either. I don't think so either. Which I love.

francene:

And then Miranda has condoms.

coryne:

Yeah, and she's like, Well, I'll go in with you, Miranda. And she's like, I got her condoms. And Carrie's like, Ha ha, no, seriously. She's like, No, that's what I got. And then here comes Charlotte. Gift givers. Gift givers. Yeah. No, there's like the op, like the, why the fuck are you doing this to yourself, is what those gifts said. Don't you do this. And then here comes Charlotte. Running. Out in that corner with like the huge, I don't even remember what it was called, the Bellini. It's like, it's like the equivalent of a diaper cake. I feel like now, right? Yeah. Did you get a diaper cake? Would you, did you have a baby shower? You organized. It was fabulous. I remember it. There's lots of champagne. There was.

francene:

Oh my God. This spread was so good. That was a great baby shower. That was a great

coryne:

house for that show. I love that. Oh my God. I love that. We tried

francene:

to buy it twice. It was so nice. I love that house. It was the NASA

coryne:

people, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I love that house. Anyway, that, that was a good baby shower

francene:

for us. That was also a good closet. I can see it in my head right now. Yes. Best closet

coryne:

I've ever had. I really liked that house. But you know that they built that, completely aside guys when they added onto that house, they built that closet bathroom. So it was like very intentional. And the woman who owned it, they originally intended to live there. So obviously, she was building that for her. That closet was amazing. You guys also had a cute backyard. It was a cute little backyard. That was a great house. We tried to buy it, but they had renovated it. Like a year before we moved into it and we were renting it. And so they just hadn't owned it long enough. And then Jason and I actually tried to buy it. It went on the market. Like, no way from the same people. Yeah, they still owned it and they finally put it on the market. And I love to stock HAR. Like it's a silent, obviously you do too. Same. Yeah, silent obsession. I was gonna say the same. And it randomly came up and I was like, and I showed Jason and it was like perfectly in our price range, but the interest rates were, you know, Like, we could have sold the house we live in and bought that house and like, I mean within 20, 000 of each other. But we would have paid like 1, 000 more a month for that house just because interest rates had gone insane. Yeah, interest

francene:

rates stopped going down. And we were like, is it alright? I

coryne:

don't need to be like a 1, 000 born man. I know. Like, isn't this house great? This house is great, right? I hear you. Yeah. Anyway, so they get into the car and I love that they load into the car. Nobody gets in the driver's seat. No one sits in

francene:

the driver's seat. No one. No one.

coryne:

Can any of us drive? Who can drive? That's a New York problem right there. That's legit.

francene:

Love that, but also it was stick. Was it a stick? Oh, I didn't

coryne:

notice. I don't know either. Yeah. I thought it was that nobody had a driver's license.

francene:

Oh, maybe. And then obviously Carrie ended up doing it. Because it was the same in L. A. Yeah, I

coryne:

remember that. I was going to say, I remember the other one. And it was Carrie that drove the train, right? And that one was a stick, because it was like a Mustang or something, wasn't it? Yeah, I remember

francene:

that. Okay, I remember that. Ooh, I think that's season two. That's right. I think

coryne:

that no, no, that's later. That's oh, is it because of her hair? I remember

francene:

her hair. Oh, yeah Yeah, because that's when they have some like really good

coryne:

Actors special guests. Yes. They have like like vince vaughn.

francene:

I love vince vaughn. He's like my guilty pleasure

coryne:

Vince Vaughn is He's hot in a weird way. Thank you. That's what I was gonna say. He's attractive and I'm But not typically. He's gotta be exhausting to be with, though. Like, he talks so fast. I think I would love it. And he's so on all the time. Wouldn't you laugh all the time, though? All the time. All the time. But yeah, I wonder He's so tall. So tall. Bizarrely tall. How tall is he? I think he's like I wanna say he's like 6'5 Oh, no way. Okay, we gotta Google it. No way. Please hold. Let's Google. No way. Vince We're snacking on the pot today, pardon the crunchiness. How old is he?

francene:

Oh, sorry. No way he's 6'5

coryne:

How did you know that? Listen, I got a weird sense on tall men. I can keep up with those facts. He's also 53. Oh, he's older. Yeah. I would have put, well, shit, we're just, we're getting older, Francie. Yeah, I feel like he's been around for a while. Yeah, I think we've probably liked him for like 20 years. Honestly, since old school. I know, and it felt like that was like five minutes ago. In reality, it was like 25 years ago. Oh, God. 25? Was it it? Old school? 25 years ago I was, I was still in college. No, it had to be, I'm going to say it was 20 years ago. Maybe 19.

francene:

21 years ago. Ugh. Oh my god, that makes me feel sick. Cause I remember when it came out. That's

coryne:

wild. Time flies. Time flies. Oh god, anyway. So they arrive, speaking of feeling old, they arrive at this baby shower with their former party girlfriend. And they're all wearing black. Did

francene:

you notice that? Again,

coryne:

the wedding. The wedding, which I love. With

francene:

little sprinkles of pink. Yeah. With Samantha and

coryne:

Tari's dress. Yeah, all wearing black. Yeah. That's like, again, they're like, we're going to a funeral. And they get there and it's like the quintessential suburban. And Charlotte just like cracks me up in every scene of this. Like from the moment they get out of the car, and all three of the women are like, Oh my God, this, ha, this neighborhood. And Charlotte's like. I feel

francene:

like this is when I'm Charlotte. I totally relate to all of it. And then poor little dog with his collar

coryne:

and nose. Invisible fence. He gets like zapped. And Charlotte's like, what happened? And here's a fact. Miranda's like, it's an invisible fence. My sister has one. Miranda has sisters? Yeah. Did not know that. Don't remember.

francene:

Well she touches on it. I didn't know she had sisters, but do you remember the episode where her mom and her sister and husband were like super shitty with her? So I remember a sister. Yeah, I don't

coryne:

remember sisters. Maybe they dropped the S. They're like, nobody was listening to that episode. Probably.

francene:

I'm like, now, as we're debriefing, we're like,

coryne:

hmm, what happened? There were multiple

francene:

sisters at one point. Yeah, and I always knew they had a bad relationship. Yeah. She does touch on that, but yeah,

coryne:

only the one. One. Anyway, so her sister apparently also has this suburban life and invisible fence. But she mentions it more than once in the episode where she's like, this is where, I've watched it happen to my sisters, I guess where they get married and have babies. Yeah. And like, become these, she says it's a cult.

francene:

Yeah, I love hearing that, which, honestly, when I was listening to this episode and looking back on Reflection, because you're right, going to baby showers when you don't have a kid, it's very different. Yeah. But also when your friends have kids and you don't, it is sometimes very much like kid discussions. Yeah. Especially more early on.

coryne:

Yeah, it's so hard when they're little, like, It's all you can talk about because it's literally like your whole life. Yeah, like it's all you're doing. It is It's like all you can do like it's assuming you

francene:

And like I do feel like bad for like some of well not bad But like some of our friends that don't have kids if they're around a group and like I have a group of friends We're like we all have kids bar some that it is some good times A consuming conversation, not as inclusive, but then it's harder to relate to like, Hey, what are you doing this weekend? It's like, well, I have no time. We're doing

coryne:

soccer practice. We got bedtime. I know, I know you just got to quit. That's one of the reasons why I, and this is completely me trying to like, Stave off the cold is like one of the reasons I refuse to move out of the city Yeah, because it's something that Michael and I used to say all the time It's like the city and it it's it has permeated out to I mean where you guys are now, too Yeah, where it's like you can go to so many cool bars Yeah, breweries things like that and everybody just brings their kids and it's like We're somehow tricking the system. We're still cool enough to be out having drinks with friends and like be relevant, but our kids are with us and like, you're doing it both. You know, like that was always my thing is like, I can't, I'm not going to leave the city. Cause it's like, then you've just let go. Get a minivan. We don't have

francene:

a minivan. But yes. And same, like, I know we're digressing a little bit but like birthday parties We're now a point where it truly is every weekend. I refuse to go unless it's like a friend friend Yeah, i'm like I would rather do something as a family or go do something that We're actually enjoying,

coryne:

which I feel better about. Here's the fun thing that's coming for you in about two more years. Coming. Two more years. You're gonna get there. You're gonna get there. All those birthday parties, the parents are just like, just drop them off.

francene:

Stop. You drop and go? Yes. Oh, well. Print, I'd be all over him. Yeah. That was the situation.'cause I have to go And then if you don't know, the parents come on a shit fast,

coryne:

awkward shit. I know, I know, I know. It was for me too terrible. And I don't know, I've never been as, as social as I am and as much as I like to meet people and as much I, for some reason I've met

francene:

my friend criteria

coryne:

not, it's not even that. Like I find the hard, I find it so hard. To like connect with these other moms that like, you know, because of my daughter's social circle, we're, now don't get me wrong. I had, there's been some that I'm like, that's my people. But it's like, you're forced into these situations with people that otherwise you wouldn't be friends with, you know? And it's like, I always feel like the outsider. Like, I always feel like, I don't want to talk about what color rug you picked for that room. No,

francene:

I hear you. This is when Aaron's like Which rug did she purchase? Talk to me. Or Aaron's like, hey, like, can you take her to this birth program? I'm like, sure.

coryne:

You're up, kid. You're up. Like,

francene:

fine. But what I love about when they get out the car is Carrie's like classic line of, Oh, Toto, we're not in Manhattan anymore. And they're all looking up to the house being like,

coryne:

Oh, And then Charlotte's so excited. And then they walk in and Lainey's there. And she greets them with the exact same shrill party girl. She's like, Like we're about to do tequila shots today and she's super pregnant, like 94 months pregnant and they, and they walk in and the actresses that they got to play all the moms at the party. That's how I felt like baby Charlotte's prior. Yes. It's like, that is like, that's my nightmare. That's what I'm afraid of becoming is every one of those women. And they're like introducing them around and then looks on the four spaces like stomach virus

francene:

outside of Charlotte. He's like, oh my god, I want to be one of you. I know,

coryne:

I know, she can't get enough.

francene:

But even like one of them, that kind of floats past, that you know you've been in that situation where you're having a conversation with a friend and someone just thingies in. Yeah. And, I don't know, I felt really bitchy saying this, but she's like, oh. I just love my son so much. I tell him he's a god every day. Okay. And they're like, of course he's gonna turn into an asshole. No,

coryne:

I love that Miranda's like, what's the chance you think in 30 years that any woman's ever gonna make him happy? And I was like, girl, if I don't relate to that shit right there, like, oh my god. We're like,

francene:

oh my god, we're helping ourselves. Or like the other one, oh, like the little boy and the woman, they're like, oh, we just call them like the old married couple. But now it's awkward, she's going through a divorce. And you're like, oh, that might be

why.

coryne:

Yeah. Like, maybe that is why. Like, that's, oh my god. That whole, and then the girls that are there when they first come in. And Lainey's like, these are my friends in the city. We used to have fun together. And they're like remember then that was all you had. Yeah. Yeah. Like.

francene:

Or we didn't think you'd be able to make it or something. I was like, what a dickish comment, right? We could just be like,

coryne:

I'm just gonna go. Both of your names are Karen. Yeah, right? Like that, I just, I hate seeing women do that to each other in general because even if you're not my kind of woman, I don't need to tear you down. Like, I know. You're just like, yay, you came. Good for you. Yeah. How's New York? Yeah, tell me all about it. Like we just have a, like you, this is your life. This is my life. Yeah, neither one's better or worse. We don't have to be hateful, but you know, That makes less interesting. No,

francene:

it does. We didn't have any content at that point. But yeah, I did write, I was like, Oh my god, Charlotte is in her element. And what we failed to mention, actually, is, I think, sprinkled in the in between them going to the baby shower, Carrie realizes that she's late. Oh, that's

coryne:

right.

francene:

Yes. Yeah. So she's kind of going through the motions of like, and she's

coryne:

significantly late. Like when she first realized that she said it was like three or four days. And then by the time they go to shower seven days late. No, I know. That's late.

francene:

Well, I don't know. I appreciate that some people like their cycles different. I'm clockwork. Like, I am fully, like, the day I do, I'm, like, due. Yeah. So then if there's any lateness, I'm, like, oh. You know something's up. Yeah, something's up. Yeah, for sure. But also, I'm, like, I don't know, knowing how Carrie is with, like, how she spirals out, and I know she does kind of mentally on this, but if it was me, I would just immediately get test and test.

coryne:

Immediately, day three. And just, like, She's like, I know, I know. Yeah. That is a very interesting dynamic for her to be having to run through those thoughts in her head of the maybe while she's at a baby shower. I know. Yeah.

francene:

And I appreciate how they played that that

coryne:

storyline. Yeah. And I loved as they're at the baby shower, they haven't been there 5 to 6 minutes. Charlotte's sitting next to me on the couch with a huge like present bow on her head, helping her open gifts. And he's doing that. Oh my

francene:

God.

coryne:

Like that total thing. It's funny that we're talking about all this because I have an invitation in my mailbox. That is to a baby shower. And when I go, I'm going to be like, Oh

francene:

God, I need to be that person. Get some pictures, get some content.

coryne:

Watch out on social guys. But

francene:

you know what I also found interesting and I know. For any of y'all that, like, are watching along with us or you've seen it before, it's interesting seeing Carrie go through the motions of, oh my god, is this for me? Like, Like, is this my time? Versus, in future seasons, knowing what's happened previously, and knowing truly how she feels. I know. Because even, what was it, last episode or the one before, when she's with Stanford, and she's looking at his grandpictures, and she's like, oh, I really want a family. I'm like, that's truly not the Carrie that we She becomes.

coryne:

No, at all. At all. And I had the exact So that's interesting. Yeah, I had the same thought, too, of her and of Samantha in this episode, because And the episodes coming, like the next couple. Yeah. That is not the Samantha we all Yeah. Grew to love so much in her character. Like they definitely are showing and honestly, maybe it's like a more well rounded version. And as they mature as characters, they kind of hone it in. But yeah, Carrie with a kid. No, like that's not her vibe at all. And can you imagine if she and all of her cray cray had like just gone to big with it immediately? Yeah. Like I know that would have been a whole three freaking thing. Which in, in all of the crazy we've seen from her.

francene:

I know I'm surprised she held it in.

coryne:

Yeah, she didn't even tell him that she thought like that. She was late or that, you know what I mean? Like no conversation about it. It's very interesting. It is

francene:

very odd. And what also like cracked me up is so Carrie hadn't told anyone at that point. So her and Miranda are sitting outside and I always appreciate it. And now we're starting to see, I think this is the first time we Well, I know they go on walks and stuff, but, like, I always appreciated, like, Carrie and Miranda's relationship, and they were always very real with one another, and a little bit deeper, I think, than Samantha and Charlotte. But when they're sitting outside, Miranda says, you know, the witch and Hansel and Gretel, she was really misunderstood. She built her house, her dream house, and then these little shits came and ate it. Ha! That made me laugh so much. It's true,

coryne:

right? That's a good point. I know. That's so funny. She tried to fake that. Yeah. No, that's a perfect Miranda thing to say too. Like always the cynic seeing it from the other side. I love that.

francene:

And then Charlotte is then inside sitting with Lainey. Whatever they're talking about, Lainey then says, or her friend says, Oh, and when Shayla, She

coryne:

says the boy name too, because I guess they don't know yet. What was it? Was it Jack? No. It's a boy name, so I didn't remember it. I

francene:

never even wrote it down. But

coryne:

she's like, when little Jack or Shayla arrives at Charlotte immediately, on defense, Lainey has stolen her stuff. Secret special baby name so

francene:

high school, but I love Charlotte for

coryne:

it. Have I told you my story about this? No, tell me I told you this. Okay, so so funny if this guy ever hears this podcast, but so one of my fairly serious boyfriends in my 20s Was we dated for like a year and he I went to high school with him So our families knew each other and like, you know But everybody wanted us to get married and it was not to be But in the course of our relationship together, of course, like at some point we talked about like baby I never really had like a girl name picked out, but I always loved the name Jackson for a boy, like a really Southern. I loved it, but I wanted to spell it J X O N to be different. Cause you know, I love different names. Anyway, fast forward, we break up, fast forward a couple of years. He knocks this girl up, right. And he and I remained friends after we broke up. So I get invited to The baby shower with my mom. Cause again, our families had known each other for years. His mom is the whole thing. Right. I get to go to the baby shower, which was a tad, like I was a little bit, I was single at the time that I went. And it was a little bit like I went, but I was like, this could really go awry. I broke his heart. Like he was super in love with me and I broke his heart. And like, anyway, long story short at the baby shower doing all the baby shower things. Right. I have been there for probably 45 minutes and standing with my mom and I can't remember what it was. It was, I think it was like, God, I hope it wasn't her opening present. It was something that I saw in the distance. And they, that was what they were naming their son with the, with the ex. And I just like, sure. You're like, what? Could not even keep it in. And I was like, you're naming him Jackson in that tone. And then I was like, get your shit together, calm it down. And he was like, He looked at me and he was like, yeah, I was like, that's awesome. That's a good name. I love the spelling. I was like, do, do not have the smelt on in front of this poor girl who's like, oh my God. But like what? Did he say anything? No, we never talked about it, but like for real, for real, like spell it the old school way. Yeah. That's

francene:

crazy. How did you,

coryne:

that was the name I liked.

francene:

Which he honestly liked it too. Obviously!

coryne:

Like, Oh my god! Not that that's as unique as Shayla, but I totally felt Charlotte's pain on this. Well, especially

francene:

if you've had that conversation.

coryne:

Yes, but the other thing is like, for Charlotte, yes, that's a shit thing to do. I also have a girlfriend who, a friend of hers took a name that they loved, that I know of. But like, for an ex boyfriend, to pick that for the next girl? That's, that was, that was a shit move.

francene:

Especially, especially, could you imagine they're talking about their names and he's the one that comes up with it and she'll never know where it, she'll be like, oh my god, that's such a unique spelling. And he's like, yeah.

coryne:

And that's a really crazy part of that story. Jason has two sons, one of which is named Jackson. An spelled with an egg. No way is that wild. I got him

francene:

I got him. Anyway, it all worked out. Screw you ex boyfriend. Fuck you ex.

coryne:

Take my name. That's, well,

francene:

I remember when I was pregnant. And we always knew we were going to call Luna, Luna Rose, and one of my other friends who was like eight weeks ahead of me pregnant, you know it's really weird like intuition or whatever, and I feel like women are very like astute to it but anyway. I remember thinking just to some of the posts she was doing and I was like I can't help but feel weirdly she's going to call her daughter Luna. Very odd, right? So I remember texting one of my best friends, actually it was Anne, and she messaged me back and was just like, Girl, this world is not, like, revolving around you. She was like, why would you think that someone is like, no, she was totally like, that is crazy. And I was like, you're right. But I was like, I know it's crazy, but I promise you. Anyway, we were messaging with, like, the girl Annie, that called her daughter Luna Ray. What are the odds? And I messaged and she did a different spelling. It's like L O U N A, which is beautiful. That is cool. And I messaged her being like, Oh my God, I love this so much. But I was like, just so you know, and I'm committed to it. I was like, we're also calling, you know, Luna, Luna Rose. And you know what I loved about it? Like going back to like girls supporting girls, she was so like, I love this. This is awesome. She was like, they're going to grow up together. This is the best thing ever. And I always appreciate her reaction. Cause if we were close, but not super close, not enough that I would have, you know, Deviate from the name. Yeah.

coryne:

When Luna is enough of a, like, it's not like you invented some name, you know what I mean? Yeah. I have one of my very, very best friends. And then another really good friend of ours that we were all like very close couple friends and having kids around the same time. They had a daughter, they named Ryan. And then my best friend, I love that. I love that name for a girl. Yeah. And my best friend, when she got pregnant, they were considering many names and she was having a boy. Well, her. husband's middle name was Ryan and they really liked it. And, but she called and was like, Hey, we're thinking of this, but obviously they're going to be around each other all the time. Like, what are you? And she's like, absolutely. Absolutely. And I was like, that's, that's cool. But I also appreciate the ask or just like the conversation. Yeah. And I'm

francene:

so glad like I had that conversation. She made me feel so much more, but it's so crazy how your intuition And I was just like, yeah, and I remember messing her back, being like, I told you the initials being the same. And I was like,

coryne:

that's really close. That's really close. That's why I love to pick names that are like, so outlandish that nobody else, whatever.

francene:

And I remember telling my dad and my dad, and I've never seen Harry Potter. And he was like, Oh, is it after that girl in Harry Potter? And I was like, no, I was like, who is that?

coryne:

She's a cool character. I just want to cross his favorites. Oh, really? Yeah. She's like an out there. She's like a sub character, but she's very cool.

francene:

Well, so Charlotte then is like, what the fuck? In a nice Charlotte way, but what made you laugh? She, she

coryne:

reacted. Oh yeah. Yeah. She was like,

francene:

what? And heartbroken. Oh. And then Samantha just waiting, waiting for something comes in. She's like, what's going on? And Charlotte's like, she stole my baby name. And she goes, you. It's

coryne:

just like ready. She's like anything, baby shower.

francene:

I'm like, and she's like, come on, we're out of here.

coryne:

Go like she, and I loved it. I love that moment where I was like, and that's why you need a Samantha in your life right there. I forgot was when they got into the party and they all said hello and Samantha and Lainey have this little terse like what's up bitch moment where they're they like pretend to be nice for a second and Samantha walks off and Lainey's like, oh god, is she still just in the clubs having sex with everyone? Yeah, and they're like, I mean, she's like Suh, suh At least she's not disappointed, like whatever bitch I know, I know Haters, haters So they leave The baby shower after They go to like a dive bar Yeah, on the road and they're like Well, I don't know. I feel like they're recovering from suburbia.

francene:

Yeah, they needed to

coryne:

stop off. They needed a cocktail after that. And I love that Charlie goes to the bathroom. And that's the moment where Carrie tells Samantha that she is with with Maria there, of course, that she's late and I love that. They all like Charlotte wasn't there. Yeah, and they have a good conversation about it. And the moment Charlotte comes back, she's like, what did I miss or nothing? Yeah, nothing. Like they don't tell Charlotte. Okay.

francene:

I do love that. Yeah. So then Charlotte then goes home, and she looks out her wish book, or wish box, a whole box, oh my god, it is so, it's like her dream man, then a backup dream man, her house, like all the things, and she had Shayla's

coryne:

name like embroidered on a pillow, yeah, yeah, like the whole, okay, so cool. The dream box, though. Did you have one?

francene:

No! Oh, okay. Did you have one? No. I thought you were gonna say you did. No, I didn't. No, I

coryne:

didn't. I mean, it's all in my head. I had, and I currently have, a vision board. But, like, a dream box? I remember that from an episode of Friends, too. You remember when Monica and Chandler get married, or get engaged? And she pulls out the wedding book.

francene:

Her wedding book. And Rachel's like, oh my god, we need to be doing this for Friends. Yeah, and she's

coryne:

got like five different price ranges.

francene:

Yeah. Oh my gosh. Yes, I

coryne:

do remember. No, I never, I never really dreamt of or wished for any of that. I mean, don't get me wrong, like I wanted to be married and I, I was on the fence about the kid thing, but I never like, I never put that much effort into that.

francene:

Yeah, mine's just, I want a Chanel bag. Yeah. I still haven't

coryne:

got it. Amen. Mine was Elizabethan heels. I have five pairs.

francene:

That's all I cared. Honestly, that was my like fashion pivotal moment. I was like, okay, when's the first time I can buy a pair of Jimmy Choo's myself? And then Chanel bag. Still not gotten

coryne:

there. These are, these are the, these are like the benchmarks in my life of like, what have I reached a point where I can spend$800 in a pair of shoes and it's not a thing. Yeah, no, that's like, it doesn't

francene:

hurt anything. It doesn't hurt anything. It absorb that. It's doable. Yeah.

coryne:

Yeah. It's doable. Like it's not a big deal. That's how I think about

francene:

my,

coryne:

yes. That's success. That's, that's how I, and travel for me, like the, the point in which I could afford, like I, I traveled way before I could afford it, to be honest. Like I just started doing it, but like now that I can like. Book, like the trip we're about to go on. And like, yeah, that, that is, that is what I'm working towards in life. The men great. The house great. Like all great, but like, are we going to Paris?

francene:

What is the experience? Yeah. Yeah. Did you watch Emily in Paris? I have not watched

coryne:

that. I should probably catch some episodes. Yeah. Oh,

francene:

maybe watch on the plane. Oh, yeah. I actually think you really like

coryne:

it. PS pod. I'm going to Paris in two weeks.

francene:

But Corinne promises she's going to get all of the moments that carries up. Come out of Dior

coryne:

with, like, all the bags. Yeah, I can't do that. I can't do that. But I did get on Rent the Runway and put together some fab outfits. And I went to Derek's last night for dinner and borrowed some of his fab pieces, like jackets and stuff. Stop. We need to get him on the pod. Oh, he would love it. We totally should get him on the pod. Hey, Dax. They, so I do anticipate some photo ops that look close. Yes. They

francene:

won't be Fennel, but Oh my god, I'm looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to it. So then afterwards, Carrie and Miranda are shopping like at CVS for pregnancy tests. And then what I love too is like, Miranda's like, Ooh, I had a really good experience with first response. I love this because she wasn't pregnant. Yeah,

coryne:

yeah, yeah. Of course. I also love the when she's like, Oh, get this one. It's on sale. And Carrie's like, Miranda, I spent 800 on what did she say? Oh, Gucci. No, it was like, she called it. She was like on sale. Slingback mules last week. This is not where I want a discount. This is not where I'm looking for a bargain. Okay. Whereas

francene:

interestingly, I feel like I'd still be looking for a bargain. You know what I mean?

coryne:

I'm like, let's see how this

francene:

goes. I'm like, I don't know. I'm sure it's all the same technology. But what's even like, I don't know, crazy to me is like, I would just want to know and get it out the system. Yes. Whereas like she goes home. She looks at it and she's like, I'm gonna wait until I know how I feel about it. I'm like, girl, you

coryne:

were dragging this up a little bit. Take the test. You'll know how

francene:

you feel about it. But it makes me anxious watching her and knowing that like, Inside she's gone to a baby shower. She's thinking about all these things and I'm like what? No, i'm

coryne:

definitely not a fan of not knowing in general like I just want to know just tell me what's going on The not knowing shit eats me like I can't function if I don't know for

francene:

sure Yeah, I I don't know that didn't make sense to me so then laney calls carrie while she's getting ready and she's wearing a fabulous like, black You Yes. Oh God, it's so nice. And then she's like, Oh my God, what are you up to? And she's like, just seeing you reminded me of how much fun we had. We really need to get together. And I love that she says, like, we need to actually get together. Like, not just things, like, it should be fairly realistic. She's like, whatever, let's do that. And then she saves it. Samantha's having one of her parties and she's like, damn it. And Samantha throws, I don't have a party party, a baby party,

coryne:

which again, like, this is so much and Carrie says this in like monologue a couple times the episode about like, how it's like showcasing Samantha's insecurity and I'm like, what are we talking about? Insecurity? No! But like, yeah, I guess. And like, she's, she, it's so interesting to see her in such faux competition with this chick. Yeah. That like, even though she's having a baby and has that suburban life, which Samantha would never fucking want. It's enough to make her want to like, tit for tat. Like, I can have a big party, too. Yeah, everybody can come and celebrate me, too, because I'm not doing what you're

francene:

doing. I know, it's kind of like, I can see Samantha, like, in her character wise, being like, fuck it, but yeah, that seemed to me like she was always above that type of stuff. Like, have a party, don't get me wrong, but like, Yeah, unaffected.

coryne:

She always seemed unaffected by that societal standard of what it is to be successful as a woman. Like she always, and her character develops into this, but it's so interesting to like, take it back this far and see these moments where she wasn't there yet. Yeah. You know, like she still had, Those basic and some stuff coming in the next two episodes even more that I was like what? Like where is this samantha? I forgot that any of this existed for her at all Yeah,

francene:

and i'd be interested in like as we get into season two how much of the characters are then evolved into what we then know and love. Yeah, knowing it's season one and like they are trialing like we've seen like her guy friends come in now they're yeah kind of phasing out it's more like the girlfriends but

coryne:

yeah. Interesting, so then surprise guest of the party you'll never believe who it is. Oh my god, I know, I die. Nine and a half month pregnant lady shows up. All the way from

francene:

Connecticut. Oh my goodness. Like at 9 months, like I don't know.

coryne:

Well, at 9 months pregnant, I couldn't, I couldn't have been bothered to go from the bedroom to the kitchen at that

francene:

hour. Even her dressed up. Yeah. I'm like, I don't think I had anything. Like, you know what I mean? Like that was a lot of effort for her.

coryne:

Oh, it was a lot of effort. It's

francene:

expensive too. And a taxi?

coryne:

I know from Connecticut, I can't even imagine what that, well and back then, but still. I know. That you could get a taxi and just come into the city. I

francene:

know. Why take a taxi? Just drive. But then where do you park? I know that's her. So she comes in and immediately Charlotte's pissed off.

coryne:

Yes. She's like, what is she doing here? Which I love. Carrie, when she sees her at the door is just like. Oh, what are, why are you here? Like, and everybody at the party's just kind of like, that's a big pregnant woman at this party. And like, yeah. Poor thing. And she's like, give me a drink. And Carrie's like, are you sure that's a good idea? She's like, oh, I'm going to have a baby to celebrate. fine. It's fine.

francene:

Fair comment. Yeah. You're like, I mean, the baby's about to come out. It'll be fine.

coryne:

It's already cooked. It's no big deal. It's fine.

francene:

So then Carrie's friend, Jonathan, is interested in Charlotte. Jonathan is a I don't know, Bix? Day trader. Day trader. I remember that. Day trader. Bix. I also did this in the evening. I'm like, what's a Bix day trader? So then they're all like together and then Lainey says, oh, yeah, cuz she's saying and she's like, oh this party sucks. Yeah,

coryne:

I'm so boring.

francene:

Yeah, so boring. And then Carrie, oh, I did write this. I felt Carrie was like pretty like condescending towards her. When she was like, Oh, honey, like you just need to go home or I don't know, like I felt like throughout like the party, like Carrie was not the most like, I feel like,

coryne:

Lainey is the kind of friend that operated in a very specific category, you know, where it's like, They were used to being, even when back in their day, when they were partying, it's like, they were quote, unquote friends with Lainey, but it's like, she, you're not going to brunch with her on Sunday.

francene:

No, you're not crying with her. They were like party friends. Yes. Like you bump into each other. Yes. We all

coryne:

had those times. Or it's like, hey, we're having a party. Come over. She's that friend. She's not the person you're in a cab with going home at the night. Yeah. Or the one you're confiding in. Like that was not the friendship level. And so I think when she shows up so pregnant and also I think like after she, You know was kind of a condescending ass of them. Yeah her party. Yeah, that's

francene:

oh, that's true You know

coryne:

like it kind of it's like now you're in our world

francene:

Oh, my God. Do you think that's why they did it? I think I feel like I have all these revelations before going through it. Like the last

coryne:

one. Yeah, like I see it. I see it from that perspective of it's like now it's it's it was in it was not inappropriate, but it gave that air when they were at her house of like, they didn't belong. You're right. And now she doesn't belong in their world anymore. And she's Obviously having a moment, like a pre pregnancy or pre birth moment of like, what the f this is not the life I wanted, and she says that, like, I've completely lost my dream, like, it's definitely, you know, to go from what she was to like, now this, that's a big change, and so I, I empathize with her about that, but yeah, I also kind of get Carrie not being overly, if that was Miranda or Samantha or Charlotte, that's not how she would have treated it, yeah,

francene:

yeah, yeah. Oh my god, this is my current part of that. So like, I didn't even think that's so true. They have a baby shower and then they have a party and how different that is. Yeah, it's

coryne:

like the, the yin yang of it.

francene:

So then Lainey's like, oh, this party sucks. Let me show you my tits. You want to see my

coryne:

tits? Yeah, and this one. sad guy's like, yeah, sure.

francene:

Why not? Oh, and she just looks, I mean, just what she's wearing. It's just so uncomfortable because she can't kind of get it off. And then she, you can tell that she feels super uncomfortable. Like I shouldn't be doing this. And she said, it's such a prolonged moment of like, Oh, standing up on like the podium.

coryne:

Yeah. And she's like, I don't think I can do this. Yeah. Like, this is awkward. And like, Carrie helps her down and like, but yeah, that's, that was really tough to watch. I felt really bad for her.

francene:

I'm like, I do. I understand like the extremeness of like when you are pregnant or you do have a change of life, like if you were going to move to the burbs, like it really is like such a transition. So like I feel her, but it's like normally those moments are done like on her own. Like not at a party when you're standing be like, I'm gonna get my tits out and you're like, I can't do this anymore.

coryne:

I just realized I'm past the snowy line. And the guy's

francene:

like, oh, okay.

coryne:

He's like, snowy girl, it's fine, it's cool. And the other thing is, when she's standing up on that ottoman, and she's like, oh, it's coming fast, it's coming fast, like, before she realizes she can't. Samantha says it's her and Miranda and Carrie standing together and Samantha says this is the most validating moment of my life. Like, watching this person who she's been in, like frenemy competition with for years and watching her, like, her demise, essentially. Yeah. Yeah, and that she's like she looks so damn desperate. I yeah, it

francene:

was not nice So then not a good look Carrie immediately was like, yeah, we're gonna get you in a cab And and then oh and this also made me feel a little bit sad was when she goes to get into the cab she turns around she's like She says someone should warn you that one day you're going to wake up and not recognize yourself. But again, I think that's very relatable in the moment she's in now, whereas we all know in a couple of weeks, but yeah, when the baby's here and you're like, Oh God, this is so worth it. Like, this is great. And then to your point, a couple of years later, you're then like, okay, cool. I have this. I can be, I can

coryne:

be who I was, but

francene:

I do understand that moment of like just before where you're just like, Oh my God. Yeah, I'm gonna have

coryne:

a baby. What the fuck? I know. I feel like it's I don't think I realized it until she had been here for a couple weeks, but it's like such a Having a baby happens to you the mom, you know what I mean? Like it doesn't happen to the dad. It doesn't And like they can be as great as they want to be. It doesn't matter. It happens to you. And like, it is such a, it's life changing, of course, but it's also like, there's so much that we don't talk about. It's like, you know, it was the greatest moment of my life. And like, It took me a year to feel like the fog lifted of like, just like not just not being a fucking anxious nightmare all the time, worried that she was going to stop breathing. Not to mention like, you know, putting any thought or consideration into like, Myself, like, you know, like what did I want to do today? Or how did I want to dress or like, what did I want to eat? I know, I know it is. It definitely is. But I will say nine years later, almost 10, it, it all comes back. It all comes full circle. If you want it to like you, it, you all get back to the point where you can be, and now you have some great. You're yourself again and you're a cool like a mom and like you know, I know he has like

francene:

a little buddy Which is the best mini

coryne:

if you have a girl you do. I know I love it best

francene:

I know the only way to go fine That's what I really wanted me too. So then okay. So then the next day carry which Randomly, I don't think I would ever have also done this. But anyway, the next day she then sits at a park for like the whole day watching

coryne:

kids. You can only do that if you're a woman, first of all. I know, but I'm fine. If you're a man, that's awkward.

francene:

I, I don't know. Like, I understand why they did that scene and, you know, whatever.

coryne:

An hour, I could do it for an hour. All

francene:

day. I mean, go grab a coffee or something. But anyway, so of course again, she prolongs them like, take a test already you bought them and now she's like

coryne:

nine days late or something. I, which also like, who's ever been nine days late pregnant. I don't think I've like that is a long

francene:

scientifically. I know that is a long time. Yeah. I've never been like that. So like, unless there was. You were pregnant? Something, yeah. Yeah, I, I mean maybe a day late or something,

coryne:

but. Yeah, I don't know of anyone who's ever been more than like five days late and wasn't. Pregnant, but I don't

francene:

know. You know, you're like, Carrie, you need to start your cycle. Something's going on there.

coryne:

Yeah, I mean, it's at that point. It's like, is this perimenopause?

francene:

But then of course on the way home she gets her period. Yeah. And then, oh, the last thing I wrote here this is another episode where Mr. Big's

coryne:

not in it. No, I did notice that. They did a whole episode where it was just, yeah, it was just about the girls and they didn't have to pay. It's the second one they've done. They didn't have to pay Christopher Noth for his time. They didn't have anybody extra in it this one, yeah. It was very hyper focused on, like, the baby shower and that dynamic with the party friend who's now converted to the cult. Yeah. The suburban cult.

francene:

Yeah. Yeah. So that was the end of episode 10. So the next one is season one, episode 11, the drought, the drought. Yes. So we will be

coryne:

back. All right. Do do

francene:

do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do

coryne:

do do do do do do do do do.
