Charlotte's date with celebrity actor Wylie Ford starts as a luxury dream, but she soon finds she's expected to become more of an abjectly servile fan then a self-respecting lover. Miranda takes Steve shopping for his wardrobe but has a taste he cannot afford and yet won't allow her to pick up the bill, even if that breaks them up. Carrie is insecure again when Big takes her to a socialite party on Park Avenue but never seems able to express his love, and therefore she goes out with an artistic flirt without means she find waitering there.

So this episode starts off with Carrie Bradshaw talking about the things she loves about New York, which is why I was thinking on the last episode, by the way. Cause when I listened back, when I was editing, I was like, damn it. Why wouldn't you. Watching the episode before we recorded. And I'll think, wait, she was not talking anything about how much he loves Dre. But in this one, she's like, I love New York. Everything's great. Everything's so easy. And then she says, how hard it's been to tell Mr. Baker how much he loves him. I love her. She goes through like the first moment that I knew I loved him was when we were, you know, over breakfast. They were all having toast and coffee. And like, he's just being his normal self. And she has that moment that I think a lot of us have had. In the falling in love process. Whereas like the most normal thing. And you just have this moment of like you know, like realizing like, oh shit, like I'm in love with this person. I'm in love with you. And she it's really, really cute. And she like. You know, you can see the realization on her face. And then she goes into the second time and it was when he took her to the ballet and he hates the ballet. And they come out and this was so reminds me of Erin. And when they come out and he's like, just shit talking. They were on wires. They. They totally. I saw the curious, all the wires. I saw the wire, like just shit talking and she's like, no, they weren't and blah, blah, blah. And she like, just looks at him and she's like, Hey. And she's like, I love your hair like this. And you know, lady and he's like waiting and she changes her shoes and she comes out and he's like, I got you something he's holding like a little bag. And it's a gift and she opens it and it's. It's a Judith, the lever bag, which give for you. Actual brand. Oh, It was like a whole thing. So like, oh yeah, no. So do to flee, if you don't know, Judith Lieber was, is she still was a major brand, but they are these unbelievably ornate Bejeweled, tiny little clutches. And they're always, they used to always be animals. And now there are other things like there's like there's flat whole series of flowers. There's like a whole series of like champagne and wine bottles. There's I'm trying to think whatever else I've seen. She's I think she has a shoe collection, like a Bejeweled shoe. Yeah, but they're all the gaudiest things in the world. And like, but wildly expensive, like, like how so? How expensive. I think probably I think minimum like 1500, two grand for a bag back then. And there, cause it's all Swarovski crystals. Oh, wow. Yes. It was whenever the Swarovski crystal thing became the thing, but they're these unbelievably Bejeweled bags. So big. Gives Carrie a peacock. It's a swamp. It was a swamp. Yeah. And it's got awful. Yeah, it is. Not the best. But in that time, like that bag was like a statement piece in society. But in like the most out like overt way, you know? What I mean, like, cause there's so like I would never carry that. Honestly, when I was watching this, I was like, I feel like my younger self. I don't love it. Yeah. I don't know, I probably accepted. I feel like there's not a Swan. I mean, I have seen like the champagne one, the one that's like a champagne bottle. Yeah. I would carry that, you know, To like certain events. Like I think that would be cute. But yeah, so he gives her this very, very expensive gift and she opens it. And she hates it. Yeah. And it, cause it's not her style at all. And she She says, she like looks at it and she's got this smell or face. And she looks at him and she's like, I love you. Well, and she was like, she was obviously at that point already where. She was ready to say it. Yeah. So she was already there. So then immediately the cat to brunch with the girls and Samantha is like, Did you tell him you've left over? Because she brought the clutch. Like look what they gave me. And I love that they all hate it. It's terrible. And she explains how they act, how he reacted. And then they were like, okay, well what's the sell by date? Like how long are you going to give him? And she's. Probably the same as Mel. Yeah. She's like, I feel like it's like, it's a dairy product. I wouldn't last a week. I wouldn't have lasted 24 hours. Like I would have been like, I mean outside of the lobby, like, Hey. No. For as my key for real. For real, I would have been full self sabotage mode by like hour for. I've been backing out of that relationship so fast. Then I guess like, was it different than. 99.9. Versus now. No, I don't know. Like, you're not constantly in contact. Like if you're a dang now. There's no separation. There's no. Excuse. There's phone FaceTime, Instagram, Facebook, like you're constantly connected. So just where you came over. Yeah, New York pizza is one of my favorite things in the world. Yeah, like it's the best. And so they're having big slices and they are at the checkout counter. And Marina's like, are you going to let me pay this time? And he's like, Nope, I got it. Your money. he's like, go get us a bench outside and I love. Yeah, the guy. So they get two slices of pizza at each. Got a drink, right? And like a coat, by the way, it wasn't like a beer. No, it was just like, yeah. And the guy, the checker, just like, he's like what's the total$5.$5. And the 9 cents for two slices of pizza and two drinks.$5. You just spent two people dinner for$5. Let me tell you, I bought a mocha today and it cost me$6 like 25 cents. Medium. Yeah. Medium hot decaf. I didn't even have caffeine. Yeah, it was basically a hot chocolate. Crazy. Yeah. Just love. That's crazy. Yeah, inflation's wild. It's it's why we were talking earlier about our restaurant in our neighborhood. That is like the best barbecue in Houston. And I was saying that like, me and Jason we'll go for lunch and lunch for two of us is like 50 bucks. That's without alcohol. Like, it's just like, cause meat's expensive. I mean, it's freaking delicious. It's totally worth it, but like, that's like a step. At a steak house for that price 10 years ago. That's what, okay. We sound old. We were eating tonight. Delicious delicious. Yeah. So yeah, so that. Do they cut too? Samantha get, have they shown her? No. So then she's like, Steve, I have this like work. It's like a partner dinner and she was like, I really want you to come. And he's like, oh, sounds fancy. Cause she's like you haven't soup, right? And he's like, yeah. I've got a suit. I want to see this, but then I was also thinking as he was describing it, how different things are now. And trendy versus back then. Well, I feel like you can be ironically stylish now. Right. Same uncle. Yeah. So, and I went to his apartment and so he was like a young, you know, he, he was a dog Walker was his job at the time. Like very like that. It was the young person's New York experience. And we went to his apartment and I'm not. Even exaggerating this at all, it was the size of this room and it was two bedrooms. Yeah. It was like, like literally like twin size beds, a wall, and in the kitchen, like the. It was basically. It's like the size of this little table, like a sink, a stove. Insane. So what they're showing with Steve honestly, is kind of big bird. For New York apartment. I feel like I know this is why I would love to live in New York, but. Ever moved. I would have to be super rich. I need a pen. I want to be like, Suits. I want to be like, I know we bring them off all the time. Harvey specter. Are we going to need to do. But I that's what I need to know. Like Steve. Oh, sorry. Like it's messy. It's messy. It's tiny. It's dingy. It's dark. The paints. Yeah. It's like all the things. And then I love it. They're like, you know, Marines is obviously newly in love, so she's like, you know, It's okay. I don't mean that Miranda. Well, I appreciate Steve too is like, and you never have to come here again. But they start making out and they're like, obviously about to do it and she catches the coolest. And it's not even like, straight into like all bunched in. She catches it. Oh, the corner of her eye and she's like, oh God. Going to see that it is very bad. So then they cut to all of them are getting Petty's. And then they're talking about it. And honestly, this conversation was so interesting to me. I forgot how like extreme Charlotte was because Miranda was basically saying she doesn't care. She, she likes Steve, she's good with it. Like she's obviously a lawyer, he's a bartender. And she's like, I appreciate that. He's happy with this. He's okay with this situation. And they're kind of debating some of those dynamics. But Charlotte. Oh, my God. She's so backwards in the fact that she's like, how could you want to be with someone like this? Well, like long term. So like it's not. Miranda says is like, cause Charlotte says she was like, but that's what he is right now. Like that doesn't mean that he's not aspiring to more. And marina says, no, no, like he's. Because that's what he wants to do. And like, and then Charlotte's like, how can you be with somebody basically with no aspirations? And Miranda makes a point in this scene that hits so hard for me because she's like, why does it have to matter? That I'm the woman and I make more money. Men constantly date women who are financially not nearly in the class that they are, and nobody cares big and carry. Yeah, no one questions it, and it's like, so excepted, why can't it be the reverse? And it is so true still to this day. In our society. And like, it's something that I have experienced where I feel like it's even in a relationship where two people are super compatible and like everything else is great. Like even then even if you talk about it, like, even if you're like, Hey, you know, I'm obviously financially at a different position than you. I don't care. And like, I feel like it doesn't matter at all. And like, we, you know, if we collectively have the means to do what we want to do, who gives a shit. But like it. Men can say they're okay with it. They're not okay with it. Yeah. They're not to this day. They're not okay with it. It makes it really hard to be a wildly successful woman. And to find someone to be with because like men who are on your level financially, Once someone who's so much less than. It's like I heard, I heard it said one time. But a successful woman can have. Two choices of partners. One who is. What's the word that they used, one that is wildly accepting or no partner at all. Like, that's it. Like, you can either have someone who just like, totally gets on board with it, or you can't, you will never be with anyone. Yeah. It's fucking depressing. It's like we, you know, we've championed. Like, you know, I'm building a little warrior in my daughter too. Like, you know, seeing her. Oh two feet and you know, like she is the most powerful force in this world and can do whatever she wants. And I also know that I'm building, I am setting her up for failure when it comes to a relationship. Well, hopefully the Pope. Hopefully it will be different. I hope. Message to all the boy moms out there that are my age, like, please raise your sign. To understand that you're looking for someone who's your equal, not true, less than. You know, and like, it doesn't fucking matter who makes the money. Like B equals. But if you, yes. If you think about it from like that perspective, once you're both in that relationship and you're like, okay, this is both our money, ours. But I do agree. So it doesn't work. It still doesn't work. Currently. I'm hopeful for our daughters that. Our. The women who are raising sons. Do a good enough job to like that they don't carry that societal pressure of like, if I'm not the breadwinner, I'm not being a man. There's so many other ways to be a partner and to be a parent and to be an equal. You know, Shake in the household and all of it and money is such a small portion of that. Like it doesn't fucking matter and it's currently, it's a struggle for. Women my age to like have achieved significant success in Fort, not to be a, you know, sore in the saddle pad. Right. And like how cool champion champion that. And like to be someone who's like, yes, like good on you. Yeah. Yeah. It's stuff. She D she makes a good point on it. Th that's the point in which Charlotte is like, I can't believe you'd want to be with somebody who isn't aspiring towards. But Charlotte makes good points too, where she's like, we want to, you want to pretend we don't live in a. We live in a classless. The system as they're getting their patties, then she immediately. She gives the eyes to the all Asian ladies. Yeah, and she's not wrong. She's not wrong. Like. You know, that's still, you still exist in today's society. I mean, this was 25 years ago. We stood up. I know, but I will say like the one thing that outside of like the money piece. Like I would struggle to be with someone that didn't have ambition. Yeah. Not right. Not money. But ambition. Yeah, I'd want to be comfortable, but I got it. But to not have any ambition to be like, no, I wanted to do something more than this. Yeah. I would struggle with that. So, yeah. I'm a quality of life person where it's like, especially if, cause like I have you. I do really well for myself. So like I am somebody who's like, I got it. I got that part. I can provide the quality of life. I have the quality of life that I want. Yeah. I don't need you to provide that to me, but if, you know, if you just want to be with somebody who's like happy with who they are and. How can you add to my life? Not financially. Yeah. Like, I don't need that. Yeah. What else you got? For me, like, you know, I feel like it's like It's a freeing thing in the sense that like, I don't have to look for a partner who can do that for me. I feel like you really should be adding to. Emotionally or, or in a million other ways. What else she got, you know, But yeah. It's and it's. It's still tough. It's still tough. Like marriage of like, when you're that successful. Finding a partner who you're not what's the term. You're not equally yoked. Yeah. I like that term. Yeah, but also like what's interesting too, and I'm sure. Like during COVID. So many people there. Situations like change financially or jobs or whatever it is. But even then it's like how your relationship then changes. When you go through things like that. And I think that also says a lot about like an individual. You know what I mean? How, like they might be the breadwinner. And how does that change the dynamic. It switches. For sure. It's like the one thing I continue to strive to do, and I don't about it with like an earlier today. It's like beat him at pickle ball. And like surpass his salary. And we constantly like joke about things. And like, I don't know, the one time I got past him, he immediately got pay rise and I was like, damn it. Honestly, like a month later. And I was like, oh, But it's like, I love being competitive with him. As like a fun way. But at the same time, it's like, I know, like during COVID like things changed. You know, whatever happened, but like, I ain't gone through moments where like he was in flux and like changing. And there's been moments between y'all where you, like you carried you and vice versa. So, like, I feel like. Yeah, but then so often you don't see that in the early stages. I mean, so then you see like Steve and Miranda and it's like, okay, we're assuming at this moment he is not going to change his situation. She is going to continue to go out from like a law perspective. The partner, whatever it is. But then for him, it's like, you never know in 10 years it might change. And we do know, we know cause we've seen it, but like he does actually die. Yeah, so like it doesn't get the Charlotte, give him a minute. You know, I see. It's very judgmental though. What was that? Charlotte? I feel like we have totally passed over it. We miss. I think this episode opens with Samantha at the guy's house. No. That's crazy. It is nag. Cause it's a big part of that. Before we go onto it. I do appreciate Kerry's comments, you know, in these situations where she doesn't really, she's very like Switzerland, like in the middle. But she's like, well, he'll make you come and make your Cosmo. Perfect. Thanks. Perfect relations. But to be fair. Like Miranda. She's like, yeah, that adds to my life. That's amazing. And it goes to her room and like, you don't see what happens because then it cuts to Samantha. Right? And it has to Samantha Savannah, Harvey turtles. They've just gotten done having sex. And he's like, I'm going to take a shit. No, it was at night. She was like he, they. She lists permanently. Yes. Surfing. Yeah. So she, he goes to take a shower and Samantha's like, just like just in bed and here comes some and she's like, she's dirty. She picks up a condom wrapper and she's like, you dirty whore. And she, she like is pulling Samantha towards her with this sheet. And as Harvey walks out of the bathroom, some like falls and she's like, and then she fully puts on the accident. And my favorite part it's like comforting her and the way he looks ever, Samantha, and she's like, yeah, And Samantha, this is the lie. And she's like some was not so dead. So bad. So most of us.
