City After Dark: Rediscovering Sex and the City
City After Dark Season 2 Episode 12 La Douleur Exquise!
Coryne & Francene are back to discuss this next episode that pulled on our heart strings, and for once we were annoyed with big!
Big tells Carrie that he's moving to Paris for six months; Samantha introduces the girls to the hottest new S&M restaurant; Charlotte's shoe fetish is counterbalanced by a shoe store foot fetishist; Miranda meets a guy who likes to "do it" only when he thinks he might get caught.
It's like a little bit chaotic, but all good.
coryne:I know how you feel. I have been it's just been busy, busy. I cannot believe like Christmas is here. And like, after Thanksgiving, I was like, wait, what? We have three weeks and then it's like, it's Christmas. Like, when am I going to?
francene:I know, I literally can't. It is crazy and you're trying to cram so much in like work wise into like minimal weeks.
coryne:Yeah, this week I decided that I was going to work really hard and get like a full week ahead of all of my scheduling and I did, I finished doing that today and I've already completed like all my blog writing for the month and tomorrow I'm going to try to write all my email blasts out and then that will allow me like some space like next week in the week. After to actually like be able to enjoy, you know, and, and like, I'll have work to do, but I'll be able to like Christmas shop and like, do all these other things that are going on, you know, with the holidays. But yeah,
francene:I know. Have you done all your Christmas shopping?
coryne:I have a significant part done of all the kids. Yeah. And the, on small business Saturday, I was like, I think I'm pretty good. Like, I think I've got, and then I was like, Oh, but I got to buy for my mom. And my niece and nephew, and my, and I started like naming them off and I was like, no, we're not done. No, we're not.
francene:That's
coryne:why you love the broad. And
francene:then you, and then you're like, no, it's, you know, it's not as easy to send something.
coryne:Yeah, no, I definitely have plenty more to do. I just had the largest Amazon box I've ever seen arrive on my front porch. And I was like, Oh, because of course, I like ordered a bunch of stuff even before Thanksgiving for the kids because like they had like circled in like the Amazon catalog. Oh, yeah. What they want to like that started like, bringing in and in shifts, but I would always pick like the very, very latest delivery date because I didn't need it. You know, like, yeah. So anyways, but I just got this massive freaking box. I'm sure full of like toys for a bunch of them. So
francene:the worst is when something shows up in a big box and you open it and there's the smallest I am in there. And I immediately feel horrific that they sent that.
coryne:I know I have I have definitely had that. I'm actually, I was, I was looking on my delivery and I was like, is there really only two things in this box? What else is in there? I haven't opened it yet. So we'll see. Like how
big is this stuff?
coryne:Yeah. It might be. bulky. I don't know. I know. At least I break them down and recycle them, but you know, it's a lot. So have you been to see Wicked yet?
francene:Oh my God. Yes. I am curious on your thoughts and everyone is going to hate me for what I'm about to say because I love Broadway. I love musicals, but I never seen Wicked. I didn't know the story, like no background, nothing. And the only way I can describe how I felt is as if I was sitting in a I don't know, a group of people and I wasn't in on the joke. You know what I mean? I know it sounds ridiculous, but I was like, I don't really, like, I liked it. Like, honestly, I liked it. And like, the music is definitely growing on me the more I listen to it now. And like, it was aesthetically pleasing and like Ariana and like Cynthia were amazing. Incredible and the guy from Bridgerton. Holy shit. He looked hot.
coryne:Whoa. I didn't realize he was from Bridgerton. Whoa I did see him in an interview though and his horse in the movie is also his horse in Bridgerton I saw after I watched it. I actually guess what? His horse in Bridgerton, he must have a horse in Bridgerton, is the same horse he's riding. That's a great comeback. He's like, I had a good relationship with him, so I requested that it be, that I could use the same horse, because I knew how to, like, I could ride him. I was like, that's so cute, it's your same horse. I love that. I know. I thought that was cute. I actually got home at like 630 from seeing it for the second time today. I pulled crossing out of school early and my mom drove down to meet us because she had not seen it yet. And I've been so completely obsessed with it since the moment we walked out of the theater on, we went on Friday. Yeah. And like, it's like, I can't stop singing it. I, I actually saw it on Broadway, like years, like 15 years ago. And I, I didn't know, like all I, I, some of the person I was, I think I was with Derek. I haven't, I've been trying to remember, but I think I was with Derek in New York when I saw it. And I remember like, as we were buying tickets, he like, you know, gave me the synopsis of what the story was about. But the, the movie is just, it's so visually stunning just because they can do so much believable, like just, and I, like, I cannot believe we had to wait a whole year to see part two. I can't even know.
francene:So that was a shock to me because again, not knowing anything when it then finished, I was like, wait, what? Plus I never thought it would be that long. And I will say it didn't feel long. Same. And I had all
coryne:commented and been like, God, three hours. And I was like, it literally felt like the same as any other movie I've ever seen. Yeah. I felt the same until I looked at the time. Yeah. And I've been to three hour movies where you're like at the two hour mark, you're like, all right, stretch it out. But like, I, for real, that one does not feel like it's damn near three hours long, but that's the other crazy thing is, you know, the, like the Broadway production, of course there's the first act and this is where the first act ends. Oh. But then there's a second act and the, it's, I think the, the play is, or the musical is, I, I want to say it's probably two and a half hours in total. So like they're adding. I know, that's what I was curious about. Yeah.
francene:Yeah. Cause they're adding, I mean, like a whole, whole other movie.
coryne:I think all the musical numbers are longer because they can do more from a visual perspective. Yeah. So there's like more interlude within them. I think it's been so long since I've seen the musical on Broadway. I can't remember like some of the songs they sang. I was like, was that in the original? Like, I couldn't remember other than like the big ones. So, but I obsessed, like I'm obsessed. Like I need, I need like a wicked detox. Cause I literally, like I'll wake up. Middle of the night and the first thing that pops in my head is loathing and I did love that song. Also,
francene:Well, thank you Yeah, we've been like singing that Ariana Grande her whatever she was wearing on her lips. Oh, oh my god I bought it immediately cuz she doesn't she own a brand REM Or she has some type of affiliation with him. Okay. I went and bought it literally the next day. I was like, I don't know what she was wearing, but like the, just the combination, her lips just looked amazing. So actually it should arrive tomorrow. Yay. She, she
coryne:did such a phenomenal job and I'm not a. She's so talented. Like she's, her voice is so phenomenal, but I'm not like a big fan of hers. But I was blown away by her. And I, the funny thing that I, like I've seen, of course, you know, I went and saw it. So now like my whole TikTok algorithm is nothing but like wicked interviews and video clips. Oh my God, same,
francene:same!
coryne:Yeah. But she is she definitely is like emulating Glinda even now in all of her interviews. I can see how like permeated into her, like actual way of being, you know, which it makes sense. Cause like, I think they probably are still working on this, this part two thing.
francene:I guess, you know what though, I
coryne:wonder
francene:something like stuck in my ear. I have to admit though, looking at the interviews, Like, I wish I was like with you, like in person to like do more of an impression. But you know, when like, they get asked a question, like, what did you eat on set? And they're like, Oh, and they hold each other's hands and they're like crying. They're like, and then it's such a long moment. And then they're like, Caesar salad. I'm like, what is going on right now?
coryne:No, they definitely like both of them and like, they fully have taken on those characters and they're like living it out in real life. I love the commitment because like Ariana's entire wardrobe for the past year. Yeah. Radio's entire wardrobe for now, like everything they've done since the moment we knew that Wicked was coming out, they have been in character and like, there's, yeah, they're so connected and like, yeah, it. It's yeah, it's it really obviously is great from a marketing perspective for the film, but like yeah, it's it is For sure.
francene:And not not to deviate too much, but you know, what else I find interesting from like a PR perspective is obviously she had an, well, they both had an affair with each other from the same, I don't know his name. Ethan Slater.
coryne:Yeah.
francene:And you know what's interesting? I was thinking about this. So his character is clearly not that like macho man, like overly confident, like he is quite a likable character, like the underdog. And I'm like, could you imagine if his character was like the prince? I just feel there'd be so much more backlash from this versus they're like, Oh, I'm glad he got her. That's nice. You know what I mean? Like, I feel like all of that has fully just blown under the carpet.
coryne:Yeah, they definitely, well, it's so funny too. Cause like, he is not an attractive man at all. You know,
francene:I can't, I was watching it and I was like, is this a joke? Is that who she got with?
coryne:I know. And she's like, she's a tiny little person. Like she's tiny and she's like taller than him in heels. Oh. If you see them stand next to each other at premieres and stuff, like she's like, and her, I mean, I, yeah, that whole thing blows my mind. But yeah, they definitely, whoever her PR rep, they swept that shit right the fuck under the rug. Seriously, they did. Down the road. Yeah, they did an amazing job.
francene:Like seriously. Yeah, it was like a tiny moment.
coryne:He and he wasn't his wife like pregnant when he cheated on her or something or yes, either pregnant or
francene:just gave birth But also the
coryne:baby. Yeah,
francene:I think I think to be fair like isn't Jonathan Bailey gay Did I read that
coryne:man? He's something to look at but let me tell you if
francene:I was her I would have been like, I am going to do everything I can to convert you. I don't know. You would have been like my focus. I'm like, if
coryne:you're on
francene:set. Could you be
coryne:by? Just for me.
francene:Yeah. Just for me. But then I don't know because she got with Pete Davidson.
coryne:Yeah. Yeah. She's had quite the illustrious
francene:What a great word.
coryne:She's had quite the illustrious string of past people. Yes. He is gay. Yeah. Yeah. He's gorgeous. Oh, he is. He's very pretty. I love. Beautiful. Yeah. I love the things they did with his character, too. This, guys, y'all did not know this was gonna be a full, wicked recap. I know.
francene:We're not even talking about Sex and the City today. Screw Sex and the City. It's worth
coryne:it. I love when he comes into the school, the first time he's like walking down that line of kids and like all the girls are just like, and then the boys are doing it too. Like the obviously gay boys are like, Oh, like just so good. So good. It doesn't matter. Male, woman, they all want him. He's gorgeous. I
francene:get it. So speaking of gorgeous, I don't know how to get onto this. You
coryne:know, segway, segway
francene:to do it, but I couldn't. But, Sex and the City, Season 2, Episode 12. God, this one makes me cry. Oh, same. This is the first time, like, no spoiler, but I was like, dig, oh my god. Wait, no spoiler, but I was like, Big, you're such a dick.
coryne:Yeah, this is one of the first times that, like, it rips at my heart. Yeah, same. Same. This one hurts. This one hurts.
francene:So what is the name of the episode? Because I know I'm going to butcher it.
coryne:Oh God, I've got to read it, because, hold on.
francene:La douleur exquisite.
coryne:Exquisite. Is it exquisite? Yeah, it's the exquisite pain, but it's in French. It's French.
francene:Yes, that is what it translates to. Did you Google that or did you know it?
coryne:I dunno know how to say that word. What
francene:did you know it was the exquisite pain? Like just you general knowledge?
coryne:Yes. I re I remembered it from the episode though, I think.
francene:Oh, okay. I'm like, wow, I literally Googled it.
coryne:Well, but I remember from the episode from when I had seen it before, and I think that's pretty close to exquisite and pain in Spanish, which I know enough Spanish to be dangerous. So yeah, I, when I saw it on,
francene:I appreciate that.
coryne:The lore is pain also, but it's D O L O R in Spanish. The lore is exquisite, and It's squeezy.
francene:And then to your point, it refers to the intense emotional pain of wanting someone who does not reciprocate your feelings or situation where deep longing is met with untainable desire, which is perfect for this episode.
coryne:Definition. This was Webster's definition of the exquisite pain. Who's Webster? No, the dictionary definition.
francene:Yeah, I did. I looked it up. Yeah. Well, I mean, Google. Google said that?
coryne:Yeah. Oh, wow.
francene:You must have known. The
coryne:French phrase. It captures the
francene:bittersweet nature of love and heartbreak.
coryne:Oh, I didn't realize it was like a phrase in French that like had that much of a meaning. Interesting. That's crazy.
francene:We're getting deep today.
coryne:So it's, doesn't it open with the
francene:S and M party? Yes. Which I love. So Samantha invites the three girls to a restaurant opening, which her PR firm And it's an S and M theme, which I freaking love. And I, and I love that. So they're all in there and Charlotte arrives and she goes into the line and there is Sam wearing a great outfit with a top hat and a whip, and she's like, come through. Come in. And then she's like, and Charlotte just looks so cute. Like compared to everyone else. She's just all like cute. I think she's wearing like purple. Yeah. Pink. Yeah. No, it's like a pink, blinky,
coryne:like statiny little slip dress.
francene:And Sam is like, I told you to be like kinky. And she's like, well, I crimped my hair.
coryne:I kinked, she said that I kinked my hair, which is like such an old term to say that she, she crimped it.
francene:But I love that that was her being like, I'm so daring right now. Look at me and my wild hair. And the other thing I love is when she goes to sit down and this is what, oh, this just oozes like sex and say, and like everything is like, they're all having Cosmos. I love it. I'm so here for that.
coryne:Yeah. Yeah. I love that. And Who is with Carrie? Why am I dropping his name?
francene:Sanford.
coryne:Sanford, yeah. Sanford's with her, which is also great. And it like, it's like a full on like, S& M show. Like, people are in all the pleather and latex with like, the Whips and chains and the whole thing.
francene:I love it. I love it. So they're all talking about fetishes. And one of the things that Samantha says, which I appreciate all this, like hearing her perspective is cause they're like, Oh my gosh, like these people with fetishes, like people get turned on by this. And Samantha's like, I appreciate the fact that they're, Like, they're fully putting it out there. Like, there's no hiding the fetishes of the people that are there in the evening. And she's like, they're confident enough to like, own it. And be like, yeah, this is what I'm into. And I love that.
coryne:Yeah, yeah. Carrie has that great line where she's like See, this is what happens when the mayor closes all the sex shops. It happens at your dinner because it's a restaurant they're promoting, right?
francene:Yeah. Which I love as well, just knowing it's like Samantha's like PR firm, like course, course, that was like her idea.
coryne:I'm sure. I'm sure.
francene:And then I think at that time Carrie then says, I need to leave Big is flying to Paris, so she wants to see him before. And then Samantha's like, Oh, you better take this top hat and whip. Show
coryne:him. Yeah, give him a little Farewell he won't forget and she shows up at his door and I do I didn't it's so funny the way they shoot this scene in the smn thing I didn't really like you don't really notice her outfit or like it doesn't because there's so much else going on but then when she gets to big that outfit is just great
francene:I literally wrote in my notes she has fucking abs of steel I know she's
coryne:All the way through Sex and the City, she had like the, the greatest like midsection for all that stuff that she wore. I mean, she's such a tiny person, but yeah, she definitely was working out at this point.
francene:Oh my god. And like, for any reminder, if anyone's Listening before you Google it was like a kind of black skirt that kind of goes out a little bit like a line and then she just wears this like sexy kind of strappy halter because it's open at the back, right? Yeah. It's just like a piece of
coryne:fabric across her top. And it's just like strap, like little tiny straps that are holding it on the back. So her whole back is open and like, even down the, like her side, it's yeah, it's a good look with like a kind of a more, almost like ballerina feel to the skirt, you know, like, it's like girly and flirty. And then it's like this little bitty tight. It's a really good look on her. And she's got the top hat on and the crop, the riding crop in her looks. Thanks.
francene:Ah, and Mr. Big is like, Oh so they have like a little moment in the doorway, but then it immediately cuts to
the next
francene:Stanford apartment.
coryne:Yes. He's, he's home after the party and he's on his computer and he's like monologuing that you know, he's got this new fetish essentially they're gonna tie it all back to this throughout the episode, you know, and he's on his computer and this is, God, this is so funny.'cause this is like two, what is this like now we're like 2005 ish and he's in like a chat
francene:room. It's like 99 still, isn't it?
coryne:Oh yeah.'cause we're, yeah, may, may, maybe turn of the century. And he's like a chat room. I'm like, this
francene:is so freaking vintage right now that they're in freaking
coryne:chat room like,
francene:I actually can't
coryne:his name for the chat room. It's obviously like a, a gay like hookup. It's like Grindr before there was Grindr. Okay.
francene:in a little chat room
coryne:in its infancy. And what's his screen name?
francene:Big tool for you. Oh, No, big tool. Brick, brick nine plus.
coryne:That's it. Rick 9 plus. Big tool for you is his favorite person to chat.
francene:Yes. And I'm like, Oh my God, I just can't with these names. Like, don't you remember, like, did you guys ever have like MSN, like messenger?
coryne:So I take it back further than that because I'm a little older than you. I had AOL chat. Yes, which would have been the same time. Yeah. But like 98, 99 and like, I, AOL chat where like, you just logged into, you've got mail. And then it was like, you could get into all these different chat rooms. Oh my gosh. Like. Yes. I remember having like a brief, like six weeks of like that being something I really enjoyed. I was like, I have to stop doing this. Like this is, this is not the real world. Like, no, I'm not doing that. And then look where the world has gone. Seriously.
francene:But like, I remember I used to come home from school and We use like MSN and there's someone I follow on Instagram and she cracks me up because she does it. You know, when you'd be like, you're waiting for the guy you have a crush on to come online, they come online, it pops up and you're like, hi. And then he's offline and then you immediately change your name to like a lyric or something. I'm like, that is so true. It is so true. I would use like lyrics to be like, I don't know, like Kelly Clarkson or something crazy like that. And honestly, the guy probably had no fucking idea. And then he comes back online and he's like, Hey, sorry, I was, someone needed to use the phone. And it's like, it's okay. What are you up to?
coryne:Oh,
francene:crazy. This is
coryne:texting before there was texting. Oh my God. That's taking it back. I know. That's taking it back. So yeah, Stanford's completely obsessed with the chat room and as a, it has this favorite guy and they're like, just basically, you're talking about the fact that he's like doing it every night and that's kind of where they leave that for that moment. Like that's Stanford's fetish for this episode. Yeah. And then they cut to Charlotte. Oh, to Charlotte. Yes. Oh, yes. Charlotte. Little scandalosity. I do love this though, okay? Like, so Charlotte is, it's the next day and she's walking on the street and she walks past one of her favorite shoe stores and sees a pair she likes and she goes in and she wants to try them on. But she says that she's, she can't afford them because she's saving up for a house in the Hamptons this summer, which I think is so funny. I know. It's your priority.
francene:Right. She's like, no, no, no. I don't have like 500 bucks. But I just love how like innocent she is about the whole thing. I feel like this is something I would do. Like, let me just try them on. I'm not going to get them. And you, can you imagine if you were like, Working in the store and you're like, well, don't fricking waste my time then. Like you're immediately like, I'm not going to buy them.
coryne:Right. Yeah.
francene:But fortunately she obviously meets someone
coryne:who he's like, at first it doesn't feel icky, you
francene:know? No, not at all. He seems really nice.
coryne:Yeah. And he offers her like a really big discount on the shoes. And like, and she takes it and like, you know, all good in the hood, like, I would too, wouldn't
francene:you? I wouldn't question it, I'd be like how yes I will take that.
coryne:Well, and even like, not to jump ahead, but like, when it, when she comes back and he wants to like, hold her feet or give her, I think I could
francene:still do that too. I would be going every week. I wouldn't care.
coryne:I don't give a shit. Just don't touch anything but my feet. It's like I'm getting a pedicure.
francene:I know, same. Honestly, a part of me, and I know we will get there, but I was like, ooh, I must have like different boundaries or lines compared to Charlotte, because I'm like, for shoes? For five. Yes. Hold my
coryne:feet. Designer shoes. Feel free. Go ahead, buddy. Go ahead.
francene:Same. So then after Charlotte gets that amazing discount on the great shoes from Buster, it then cuts to Miranda and oh my God, this scene. Oh, I wanted to quote it word from work, but I was like rolling my eyes. So basically Miranda is at like a bookstore kind of outside. It's like vintage books. She's kind of looking through because all weekend, all previous weekend, she was in bed reading Philip of Spain. That's where I rolled my eyes. I mean, each Jerome, right? And then this guy comes over and he's like, Oh, I read that book. And she's like, Oh, talk to me. Once you've read like, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And he's like, Oh, I'm like, Oh, do people have these conversations? I can't. I was like such geeks right now.
coryne:Oh, that was such a nerdy flirt. Like I can't even handle it.
francene:I was just the way she was like, Oh, talk to me when you've read like. King, blah, blah, blah. You know who that actor is? Yes. Do you know? No, actually, I lie. I didn't. Oh, you froze on me. Are you there? Oh. Yeah, can you hear me? Yeah, you're good now. Sorry. Oh, okay. No, I didn't. But Aaron was watching it with me. And in the next scene, he was like, Oh, it's dammit, I wrote it down. I've forgotten his name. But it's Amy Poehler. Jack. Will Arnett. Will Arnett. It's Amy Poehler's ex husband. Yeah.
coryne:Yeah. Yeah. And the, you know, he is on that podcast called smart lists. Do you listen to smart lists? No. Is it good? It's got Jason
francene:Bateman. Oh, I've heard about it.
coryne:Yeah. It's Jason Bateman, him and him dropping his name, but it's it's the guy who played Jack on Will and Grace.
francene:Oh,
coryne:his name is Will too, I think. Will, I don't know why. No
francene:way.
coryne:I love him. Anyway, hilarious. And I, so I listened to Smart List and like Will Arnett, like, you know, I, he's not an actor that you ever, like, he hasn't done like a whole bunch of big stuff, but when he came on the screen, I was like, Oh shit, there's like Will Arnett from like forever ago. That's hilarious. So it's funny to see him in that character. Yeah. For sure. But they obviously hit it off and like, you know, are gonna, they're gonna go on a date or something from their nerdy book stuff.
francene:I know. And look at us thinking we're like, Oh my God, is the fetish like historical books? Wait and see viewers wait and see. And then it cuts to Big and Carrie they stayed in bed all morning and then he was kind of getting organized. I can't remember. Oh no, sorry. He was getting organized to like leave to the airport for Paris. And then he just casually says, Oh, I may need to meet Paris for a year. And he's like, so blase about it. And just like, I don't know what the big problem is. And she's like, what? Yeah.
coryne:Yeah. Yeah. I definitely, that is that's tough. And I mean, you know, I, I don't know, like, it's, it's not okay. There's so many elements to that. But like, it's not okay at all. And I want to try to like, in some way, see it from big side of it. It's just like, it's work. And that's just what I got to do for work. You know what I mean? But like, you know, Oh, I would feel just like Carrie. I would be so upset.
francene:And more so, and I know she touches on this, but like, she wasn't a factor. And I think the only way I could see it, like from big's perspective to your point, like it's work, he needs to get it done. But I think because of that, she isn't a factor. Like, I don't even think he thought twice about it. He's like, yeah, if I need to move to Paris, I need to move to Paris. Like,
coryne:yeah,
francene:it is what it is.
coryne:Yeah. Any. He also is like very you know, like she's trying to be all sweet and like, I'm going to miss you. And he's like, I'll be back in a week. And like, you know, like doing the kind of typical guy thing of like it not being a big deal that they're going to be a part, even though it is to her, you know, and then he just throws out there that he's going to be gone for a year. So yeah, I definitely, you know, I definitely feel her pain in that scene. And like, it's, Oh my gosh. The moment he said it, I remembered this was that episode. And immediately I was like, Oh. I know like I was already like It's coming. It's coming.
francene:Yeah, this is literally the first time since i've rewatched it that i'm like, what a dick and You know the other thing I realized And I i'm unsure if it's like purposeful or it's the way they've kind of showcased their relationship to date But they obviously said I love you in that one episode right when he phoned her and was like look I fucking love you Carrie Right. They never say it to each other You Yeah,
coryne:yeah, true. And they never say it like, you know, like once in typical relationships, like once you break the, I love you. You know, sealing. Then it's like you say it every time you get off the phone. That's what I
francene:was thinking. Yeah, I was thinking
coryne:that too. Right. Yeah. So yeah, we don't see. But wasn't it, it was just the last episode where that happened, right? Oh yeah. Was it? I think so, yeah. I think it was the last. No, it was the cast system, wasn't
francene:it? Because then he calls her at the end. Oh, you're right. It was the cast system. So that
coryne:was a couple episodes ago.
francene:So I'm, yeah, I mean, technically it's like. Francine's checking her notes. She's a
coryne:but anyway, so yeah, they leave it there. He's headed to Paris. And they, that's just kind of like how they leave that moment for us, the viewer anyway, like they just are like,
francene:yeah. And then immediately we see her with the girls and to be honest, I would act the exact same way. Carrie acts at this brunch. She's fucked off. She's talking about it. She's like, it wasn't a factor in the decision making process. And she slams her hands on the table and I totally get it. Like she is like stressed out.
coryne:Yeah, and that scene where like she's having a full fucking meltdown and the way that the girls are like reacting to it They're kind of like catching things and like trying to like like to other people around they're trying to like keep it I know kosher for but she's fully To be fair like the funniest thing is like, you know, I'm glad you're having your freak out because it's fully deserved I don't know how you held together In front of big because I would have I would have lost my freaking shit on him. Yes before he left for I know
francene:Which again, this is such a pattern for carrie like she holds it in And in her mind she's like i'm fucking livid, but i'm not Really going to push it. And then it's like the minute she walks away and I think she says it out loud. And I appreciate that. She looks for some of the, cause I think she says this at brunch. She's like, is it me? Like, am I like a masochist? Am I like looking for this? Am I attracted to this? And obviously the girls are like, no, no, no, it's not you. So she's looking for some of that. Affirmation that it, this is crazy, right? Like he, This is not good. The way he's acting.
coryne:Yeah. And I will say that moment where she says, I'm a masochist, like I'm obviously seeking this out, man, that hits that hits. Cause like, I feel like, God, I have felt that way where it's like, how do I keep ending up in the same situations where it's, you know, like similar behavior and same thing for her, you know, but that's the thing that sucks is like, it's not you. It's, it's that a lot of. Yeah. People of the opposite sex really suck at this shit.
francene:Yes, yeah, a hundred percent. Like I was thinking, and again, first time in a while since I rewatched that I was like, no, Carrie, you're not overreacting at all. This is truly unacceptable.
coryne:Right. And I mean, don't get me wrong. Like, you guys know that we have definitely caught Carrie out of her shit many times in season one where she was, Fully overreacting. And there is a little bit of overreaction coming. I don't know though. Like I said, I would have lost it on him right there. Yeah, I shouldn't have found that. Full fucking meltdown. So she at least held it together and tried to go like consult her friends and calm herself down some. But she is distraught. She's hurting. Like obviously this is, it's not good. And he's in Paris at the moment. Yeah,
francene:he's like no, no care.
coryne:Days, just do about it.
francene:Yeah, and this is when Which will be super
coryne:fun.
francene:And this is when she goes back to her apartment and part of her article this week is, she's writing about when you know enough is enough. Bye bye. And you're like, now. Yeah.
coryne:Yeah. Yeah. This is, this is right. This is a carry, but listen, girl, same Z's like, it's so tough. Like it's tough. Like, cause she knows she logically knows right now. She knows. Yeah. But it's like your heart gets in the way.
francene:And you know, it's funny too. The way they've done this episode is you have this Like, I would say deep segment between her and Big, but then you sprinkle in the hilarious stuff that we'll go on to speak about with like Charlotte and this next scene with like Miranda. That it's, again, it's kind of like the fetish on, like, she is drawn to this with Big. I'm like hurting herself and putting herself in this situation. Meanwhile, Miranda is on a date with Jack. And he shows her Mark Twain's house and she's like, Oh, that's cool. And then he's like. Yeah, let's, let's go walk in. And she's like, Ooh, it's a little bit risky, but okay. Then he starts kissing her and then Thule is like, Oh no, we're going to do it right now. And then she's like, or is it maybe Carrie? She's like, Oh, and now Miranda's with the person that I like to have sex in places I get caught.
coryne:No, she, Miranda says to him, because there's like an opening and they walk into like a little enclave and obviously there's like little apartments in there, which pretty cool. That's like, that's cute to take her to on a date, obviously, because they've connected over literature. And then she says to him, she's like, Oh, somebody could come in. And he's like, I know. Oh, and then I think it's. Yeah, and she's like, Miranda realized that like, you know, he, he liked the allure of being caught or whatever, and they're like, leave it there, you know, like a one off, we've all had, you know, sex in a crazy place at some point, you know what I mean? So okay, we'll leave it there. There's his fetish, you know, like, there's the there's this guy's thing.
francene:You know what I do like to, I don't know if you know, it's like in this scene, when he goes to walk her through, and They turn to look at each other, man. She had all the signals to be like, Oh, I'm, I'm down for this. There was just something about the way she was like standing and she was looking up at him and like leaning in. And I was like, Oh, she wants it bad.
coryne:She was giving it off. Oh, she was
francene:giving it off. And I will say, I have to comment. Her skirt was the worst. Like the
coryne:so much so much color for her. Like, I feel like they do overdo colors for her.
francene:Yeah, I was a little bit too much. So now we cut to Stanford and Carrie, Cosmopolitan's of course. And he says, he was like, Hey, I have to admit something. I'm having cyber sex in this chat room and then she's like, wait, what is the part that I'm not supposed to judge you on? Yeah, he's like, like, I'm, I'm confused, And she's, and she, he is like, well, my name is Rick nine plus. And then she's like, and then he says, oh yeah, this guy wants to meet me. And she's like, well, what's his name? And he is like, big tool for you.
coryne:And she's like, Spitzer, cosmopolitan out. Oh my God, I love it. And then she's basically, he's asking her her advice of like, should I meet this guy in real life?
francene:Yeah. And I love that. She's like, look, why would you not? She's like, are you Rick nine plus? And I love his quote that he's like, I haven't had goose sex since before cats was on Broadway,
coryne:which I'm sure when that episode came out, that was really timely. But like, yeah, I know. It's like, that's been a hot minute.
francene:I love that. I love that. And it's interesting to like seeing like his insecurities, like he's worried, you know, someone's going to see him not like him. And I feel up until this point, he's always come across as pretty confident. So that's like, interesting.
coryne:He's such an interesting character on the show, because like, he's not, you know, like the overtly good looking gay guy. You know what I mean?
Yeah.
coryne:Like, Yeah, but he's, it never really comes across that. He's super it does later though. I, I remember in later seasons where like it with people he's dating and stuff like that, he touches on it, but yeah, he's always been like pretty confident in his, you know, dating pool and in the scene of like who he is. And I love that for him.
francene:Yeah. Same. I love the storyline with him. So then it cuts to Carrie is now A couple of Cosmos in, she's a little bit boozy, Stanford leaves and she calls Big. Was she
coryne:at her house or was, were they at Stanford's house?
francene:No, they were in her apartment, so he's left. Oh, okay,
coryne:so she's home, okay.
francene:She's home, and when Big Kip picks up, he's like, it's like 5. 30 in the morning, which means it was her 11. 30. Yeah, maybe like 1230 depending on timing. And I love that you can just tell she's like super drunk Trying to make a point and she's like I think about you All the time, all the time. And she's like, you're an old man. This is not fake. I am a woman, a woman, man, man. He's like, go to bed woman. Yeah. He's like, have another cocktail woman.
coryne:He is like not here for it. And this is the, this is the spiral that I'm like, I get it. And you're totally right. And just poorly, like none of that's landing. Cause it, you know, you're calling in the middle of the night, you're fucking drunk. Like none of this is landing. Like you're, you're making the car. Cardinal, Cardinal girl error emoting after cocktails,
francene:but I feel like I would also do this, but you know what? I'm also really impressed with is the fact that she knew where to call.
coryne:Yeah. Like his hotel room directly to the room. Yeah. So he must've provided her with information about like where he was staying or like, whatever. I kind
francene:of love that. And I'm like, okay. They left on like good terms. Like yeah. I mean, honestly, in this day and age, like if Aaron goes traveling, I couldn't tell you specifically what hotel he is staying at. If I needed to like, you know what I mean? Like fully call his room. Like
coryne:to be fair though, back then they didn't have. Cell phones, like we do. So it wasn't like now I feel like we don't have trackers
like,
coryne:Yeah, a, I can see where you're at on the phone and be like, if I need you, I'm just going to call you on your phone. You know what I'm saying? And if you stop answering and I need to send out the guard because I'm concerned, I can tell like, no, he's right here. See, it's on my phone. He's right there.
francene:He's sleeping.
coryne:Yeah. Yeah.
francene:Oh my God. Not to like sidetrack, but When I worked offshore, there was a guy I used to work with and his girlfriend, I have to admit, was massively cray cray. And she, very clever though, to give her credit.
coryne:You gotta love that. Clever and cray cray.
francene:Right. She invented this technology, which now I feel like I can't say it cause then you'll be able to like know who is, but she invented this technology that basically is, it's kind of like a pillow that it has like a heartbeat and it's connected. I guess, I don't know how like she did it, you know, like a kind of Apple watch type thing, how you can tell like your heartbeat, there was some type of technology like Bluetooth where he, if he used a pillow. He would feel her heartbeat and she would do the same. And I'm like, I swear she invented that to see if he was doing anything on the ship. You know what I mean? Cause then you see the elevated, like heartbeat type thing.
coryne:Yeah. I'm like better. It's like, you said you were asleep.
francene:Were you? Seriously? That's what I mean, heartbeat. Yeah, that's what I mean. Yeah. I'm like, man, she got into like great lens. Anyway. They didn't work out. What a surprise. Listen,
coryne:Shocker. Thank For her at least her at least her crazy, at least her crazy stalking turned into like something good, like a, you know, like a invention.
francene:It did. Yeah. Anyway meanwhile Jack and Miranda. Or in a taxi. So I guess this is another date. And then he's like, take off your panties. And he's like, I want to give you head. And she's like, I love again with Miranda. She's like, Oh, okay. She's like, like in here. And then she's like, are
coryne:you serious?
francene:I know the driver
coryne:is like right there and like, what are you? And he's like, yeah, I'm serious. And she's like, she, she like Huffs at him, like, ah,
francene:come fine. And then she duck. But then also, oh, again, I hate this in like TV and like movies, movies. The minute his head's not even down there and she's like, Ugh. And I'm like, come on. I know. Come on. So unrealistic.
coryne:This is why men have unrealistic expectations of how a woman has an orgasm, okay? You're perpetuating the lie of sex in the city. Stop it.
francene:But also, when she makes a noise, the taxi driver kind of looks around, she's like, yeah, make a right here. Take Ninth Avenue. Yes.
coryne:She's trying to cover, like, you're doing a terrible job, Miranda. You're doing a terrible job. You can literally reach out and touch that driver. Later. Yeah, I can't either. Oh my god. So, that's not my comfort level. Like, no. Sex in a public place? Sure. I could do that. In the back of a cab? No. No, you push me past the level of it. This is cool. Yeah.
francene:Yeah, I agree. I yeah, no, no, I agree. So then it switches to Charlotte again. She heads over to her favorite shoe store. Now she knows where she can get the discount. And she tries on wait, He goes back to return no hair. She hasn't got them yet. She's really got them. Yeah. So when she goes it's like a white pair of like strappy wedges, I think. And he's like for anyone else, 500 for you free. And she's like, why, why would you do this? And he's like, because your feet need a massage. And she's like, okay. And she's like, and this is when he initially like rubs her feet and it's like two seconds. Like he puts them on. You just like hold them. It's not
coryne:a big deal. Yeah. No, we don't could. Yeah, absolutely. Would do that for free shoes. Again,
francene:500 bucks. I'm like, I wouldn't even freaking question it. I'd be like, how often do you want me to come here? Let
coryne:me know. Here's my number. Text me when you want to text me in something. I'll be here. I
francene:will be here ready. So then it flips over to like the girls are walking and sits them around us, Charlotte. And then they're walking down the street and Carrie's telling the girls about Bigg and they're just kind of chit chatting through kind of how she's been kind of feeling about it and the fact that she called him drunk. Almost like, not ideal.
coryne:No, yeah, yeah, and they are definitely siding with Carrie and also like, yeah, that's not a good move. Calling him drunk, not a good move.
francene:No, but then I love how like Carrie's like, Moving her hair and she, oh no, no, no. Charlotte does something like with her food and carries like, whoa, whoa, what's going on south of your ankles? Charlotte, tell me about this. She was like, she was like, are those 500? She was like, No, she's like, how much, where's the discount? Where is this place? She's like free. And it's interesting that I think the voiceover is like, it was then Charlotte knew she needed to return the shoes. I'm like, no, I'm surprised.
coryne:She said, Carrie says free. How are they free? And Charlotte explains, she's like, well, it's really
nice.
coryne:Yes. And she's like, and the voiceover was like, as soon as the words came out of her mouth, she knew she had to take the shoes back.
francene:Even then knowing Carrie, I still think Carrie would have been like, Oh, keep them
coryne:good for you. Yeah. It's like the money on the, on the bed that Carrie got from the one guy she slept with it. You
francene:keep the money, Carrie. I know you literally keep the money. So then she goes to give them back and this is what we alluded to before. And he's like, he looks at them and he's like, Oh, they'd be more and I can't take them back. And then she's like, well, I, I would buy them, but I can't afford them. And he's like, well, six new pairs just came in. Yeah. Yeah. Do you want to try them on? And then this is when it verges on, he's not just holding her feet, he is fully getting off on her feet.
coryne:Yes, he does completely get off too, but to be fair, he's not doing anything but putting shoes on. On and off your feet. You know what I mean? I know he's full on.
francene:I mean, There's a little bit of, he finishes and at that point I would probably look away and be like,
coryne:just
francene:a little
coryne:ski And then I'd be like, I'll take an eight and a half in all of this thing.
francene:Bye. Also, I, I dunno, I've never understood like the food fetish personally. I just don't like.
coryne:I don't get it either. I just, I don't have any fetish to like an and I mean, I guess that's not an object, but like a body part that is like that intense. You know what I mean?
francene:Yeah, I do. Yeah. No, I agree. Yeah,
coryne:pictures of my, like you see these people who are like, I made a hundred thousand dollars last month taking pictures of my feet. And I'm like, are you
francene:for real? Like
coryne:I can take
francene:no pictures to see your face or like picking up stuff with your food. I'm like, I'm pretty sure I could do that.
coryne:I'm for sure. I can do that. Is this our next business model? Yeah, totally. Boy, I'm making so much money. How many, how Can somebody manage that platform for me? I don't have time.
francene:I know. It is, yeah, it's just interesting like just seeing it like to that extent. Like there are times when I'm like, Ooh, those are like nice arms or I don't know, beard or whatever. But to that extent, we're like,
coryne:No.
francene:I don't know.
coryne:But anyway, I'm sure
francene:there are people listening and I love that for you.
coryne:Yes. We don't understand it, but it doesn't mean that it's not wonderful or that it isn't real.
francene:It's not real. So then it cuts to Ms. Carrie Bradshaw turns up at Biggs apartment. He landed at like 9. She's there at 10 with her McDonald's, which I cannot believe she went to McDonald's. She looks fabulous. She's wearing a beret. She's all about the life of Paris. And he's kind of like, Oh, Hey, I dunno. There's just something about it that he's so like, just doesn't give a shit that she's there.
coryne:Yeah, well, also, I think that he's still probably not overly pleased at the drunk conversation because, you know, it's not like they show us that they've had communication in between.
francene:Yeah, that's true, because she does say, he's like, what's all this in aid of? And she's like because I was acting like libitch.
coryne:Yeah, yeah. She's like, I got le filet of fish and le french
francene:fry and le hamburger. I do love that. She's totally
coryne:leading into the French vibe. Yeah.
francene:I know. I also feel like this is probably something, this is how I would also act to is like, you're trying to like, Detract from what happened and you're like, and then also just hearing her be like, Hey, if you move, that's cool. We'll make this work. Even if, you know, I come to Paris a couple of times or eventually if you stay, I'll move there. And he is fully like, Oh God, it breaks my heart. He's like, but you'd be moving for you, right? No big, why the fuck would she be moving for herself?
coryne:I know. Like that scene just kills. Like, yeah, it's one of the worst. It's so hard to watch that. And to Carrie's, not credit, but like, I completely get it. Like that's the moment she snaps. And she like, yeah.
francene:And the
coryne:world's smallest
francene:TV in the
coryne:kitchen. So
francene:fucking small.
coryne:But she throws it and she's like, What the fuck? Like, loses her mind. And like, she should. I don't blame her. I know. She's
francene:like, I've been running around town, going to like McDonald's, getting this, wearing a beret. And she's like, You don't even give a shit if I'm in your life. And then he just doesn't say anything. And she just, I think she just leaves at that point. Right. Like he literally doesn't say anything. Oh no, he's like, it's about work. And she's like, no, no, no, it's not about work. This is about us. And this is about you like running away or walking away when things are good. And she's like, she's crying. She's like, why is it so hard? And then what I fucking hate about big at this point is he says, old habits die hard. Oh, I can't.
coryne:I know. And I mean, I will say that like this, this is a it's like the scene between in their relationship of like, they've made it work, even though. Like, he has these limitations, which I think he says at some point, and like, they've somehow, like, fought through them. And this is one of those moments in their relationship where it's just like, it's too big a gap, you know? Yeah. And it's, it, I mean, yeah, that hurts. Like, I feel so, that just hurts. It hurts to watch it. It hurts to watch her experience that.
francene:You know, if I can give, like, A guy's perspective that I don't necessarily agree with. But like I said, Aaron was watching this with me. We all know he's apparently not a fan that he likes to give a viewpoint. So when this scene came up, I obviously voiced out loud. I was like, Oh, I hate, I hate how he's acting. And I was like, I just feel like he's a piece of shit for this. And Aaron's like, well, he probably got to a point where enough is enough because she's been acting so crazy. And I was like, I don't agree. I was like, we know she has her crazy moments, but then why are you with her? Why string her along? You know what I mean? Well,
coryne:Well, the other thing too is like, that would be, I don't know, I feel like they've been on a really good run. But that's what I mean, yeah, I don't agree either. Yeah, yeah, they've been through, like, they had some things where she Yeah. Crazy moments. But like, I feel like those things happened, you know, early on and like they were, they broke up and ever since they've been back together, like things have been solid between them. I
francene:agree. Look at us. So I don't agree with that. No, no, no. They were like perfect.
coryne:This came out of nowhere. You're good, Erin. What? What you're talking about. Everything was fine and dandy. I know. I can't.
francene:I felt the exact same. I was like, how dare you? So then honestly, at this point, I completely forgot like the next scenes with them. I thought that, yeah, that's it. They're over. Which sucks. It's a sucky way to end.
coryne:I know the next one's the one where it just like adds insult to injury. Like it's just, That's the full ripping out of the heart.
francene:Yeah. And before we get there, we then go back to Stamford. So he goes to the bar, which I love. Yes. And the bar is called After Hours. When he shows up, they're like, which I'm like, are there bars like this? So he shows up and they're like, no, no, you can only wear your underwear. And he's like you know what though Stanford looks good. He does. He does look good. He's surprisingly better. And I also love this shirt. He was wearing, it was kind of that lime green. It looked great on him, but anyway, are there bars like that where you literally have to go into your underwear? I mean, I feel like in New York,
coryne:I can imagine that there is bars like that. I've never been to your
francene:clothes? How do they manage the,
coryne:the bouncer says to him, he's like, there's lockers inside. So it's like fully like they're prepared for that.
francene:Oh, I don't know. I, I don't know if I would like, that's a lot. I would have had to have taken a couple of shots. And especially on your own.
coryne:Yeah, you had to go by yourself. No, I feel like the gays though, they, they totally would do it. They'd have no problem with it. They're like, yeah,
francene:yeah, let me take all of that off. So then it cuts to, well, actually I, I think just while we're here with Stanford so while he's standing at the bar and I can tell, He obviously is looking around for big tool for you. He's nervous.
coryne:Yeah.
francene:Nervous. And he lights a cigarette and this guy who is beautifully looking at him is just staring him out like so intensely and he walks over and he's like, I like your briefs. Are they like limited edition or something? And I love that he like grabs his briefs to like Yeah. And he makes him like,
coryne:turn around. I know. I love it. And Stanford's like, they're French. Like thanks for noticing. Love it. Oh yeah, he's, yeah. And he's like, well, and then he like leans in. He is like, big tool for you. And the guy's like, what? And he's like, nothing. Nevermind, nevermind. like
francene:beer for you. Do you want a beer? And I love when they turn to the bar so they're both wearing briefs. And then, I don't know who it is that says it, I guess maybe Carrie, it's They allude to a brief encounter.
coryne:Yes. Yeah. That's great writing.
francene:Awesome. So good for Sanford. So although big tool for you, who knows what happened to him? I think he went home with someone better.
I hope I'm assuming.
francene:Yeah, Before we go back to Carrie, we then go back to Miranda and Jack, Jack with the riskiness. And this is Oh, we
coryne:didn't even touch on the fact that part of the girls conversation was Miranda did bring this up with the girls and they were like, you've got to get him in a bedroom. But she's like, are we only going to have sex in public? And they're like, you've got to, it's Charlotte, of course, he's like, you've got to get him in a bed and see if there's something real there, Miranda. Like, she doesn't love this, she's dumb. And so, Miranda, yeah, Miranda has taken that advice, and she says in the monologue, she suggested it to him, and he was totally on board to go back to his house, to his bedroom, so Miranda's like, Oh, well, cool, like, this is normal, it's totally fine. So they show him, like, getting into his bedroom, and they're immediately, like, on the bed, like, you know, getting into things.
francene:She is fully letting loose, like, she is loud.
coryne:And liking it and then she hears something rumbling in the background. She's like, what is Someone here. What is that? He's like, Oh, my parents are in from out of town. They're staying here. It's just like amping him up. Like he's just like, I can't, it was just stop. She's fully just like, he's just humping away. And I'm like, that is so awkward. And his parents or they walk in on them as he's like, orgasm. I can't. Oh my God.
francene:I can't. It's even like, Again, like going back to the piece where like there is a turn on to an extent for you're like, Oh my God, we might get caught like this is hot. That is not hot. That is something I would never ever want to happen. Like your parents. Oh
coryne:God. Oh Jesus. Worst thing ever. And like, yeah, Miranda gets caught up in the most icky. Yuck situations so often.
francene:Yeah, it is bad. That was,
coryne:yeah.
francene:Oh, uncomfortable viewing. I was like, can you imagine? Like, what do you even do after that? You're like, Hey, I'm sorry. I know.
coryne:Yeah. I know. Like, how do you like get yourself? I wasn't fucking him. He was
francene:fucking me. I tried to stop. I didn't know. Like you weirdo. I know. Yeah. It is bad. So now we're on the last scenes where we're back at Carrie's apartment. She's awake. It's 2 30 in the morning. And then lo and behold, big shows up.
coryne:I know. And she's obviously like, she's up. She can't sleep. She's suffering. Like, you know, the whole thing. And there's a knock at the bell rings and it's big and he comes in and, oh, it just kills me. Like, this is. The, like, that's the antithesis of it, that like, it's obviously hurting him too, you know, and like, he doesn't want to lose her either. That's what I appreciate, Zames. Yeah. It is because you can't like man up.
francene:I know because you're like, y'all, like you, firstly, you don't even know if Paris is like a hundred percent. Secondly, like, and I appreciate it was different back then, but I don't know. It's weird. I sometimes find it's weird when people in relationships, if someone has to, you know, work away or do something, it's like you immediately give up versus being like, Hey, could this work? Can we try? Yeah. But yeah, so when she sees it's big, she says there are no words left. We'd set them all. And they make love. Yeah.
coryne:Yeah. And he spends the night and like the next morning he wakes up and she's like not in bed with him and she's like sitting in her chair with just like the most pained look on her face. She looks
francene:beautiful though.
coryne:The way she's
francene:like
coryne:sitting by the
francene:window.
coryne:Yeah. But just like, Oh, I just feel her. Like, I just feel so much for her in that moment. And he wakes up and be like, Hey, what are you doing? And she's like, go to Paris. I'm not going to come. And I wanted to be like, Carrie, Listen, girl, to be fair, he never asked you to come, okay? She's like, I'm not coming. He's like,
francene:okay.
coryne:I invited you, but it's like her, like, saying the last thing of like, basically, like, this is it. I'm done. And you
francene:know what also made me sad? Like, listening to, like, her voiceovers, when she was sitting there, she wonders if she ever loved him or loved the pain. And it's interesting, right? Cause like, I feel like there's such a, I don't know, like a fine line sometimes where you think like you're in love, you know, and then sometimes you're like, well, is it habit? Is it familiar? Is it again, like you're addicted to that pain because you know, this isn't forever or it's not going to last. And sometimes you use that as an excuse. I don't know. It was just interesting that she was having some of that, like, it's
coryne:I mean, Yeah, it's definitely something that I feel like we've all fallen into at one point or another in a relationship and it's like, I almost sometimes feel like it's not the pain you're addicted to, it's what comes right after in the, the coming back together and all of that. You know, and it's like, there's those like toxic talks, those cyclical relationships that are just toxic because like, it just keeps happening. But I mean, we also know like, you know, if you have never watched sex in the city earmuffs for you, but like, we know that like, even though this is it for right now, like, she's going to keep coming back to it. So it also is, you know, Is it that or is it like some people you're just drawn to like a moth to a damn flame? I, I think so. Sometimes that's one sided, you know, like sometimes it's, it's a one sided thing and that's where I feel like you have to like get away from it. But when it's two sided it's, you know, it's, it's carrying a big, it'll go on forever.
francene:I know. And especially knowing like, again, like I, I, I appreciate seeing this because he comes over, like he's hurrying through this. Like it's not like clearly if he didn't give a shit, he would just go. He wouldn't speak to her again. But then. So when he goes to leave and she, you know, looks out the window, oh my God, the way he looks up at her and he looks so handsome. She looks incredible, like a freaking goddess. And like the wind is just breezing through her hair. But then she says, and just like that
coryne:moment.
francene:Yeah. And she's like, and just like that, she had untied herself from Mr. Big and that's the end.
Yeah,
francene:that's it. It is sad. That's what I mean. It's a weird episode because it was like funny, but not.
coryne:I know. Well, they always do a good job of like coupling the comedy moments with the really, really hard ones. And this, this episode is definitely one of the ones that's like, it's just, it's, that's a tough one to watch. I can't believe this is not, this obviously was like meant to be the, Finale, I feel like. And then they added six more episodes because this one has 18. Same.
francene:Honestly, I thought the same because I was like, wait, I'm sure there were more episodes, but I mean, it would have been a natural end to a season. Yeah. The next episode is games people play.
coryne:Yeah. Man, that's a tough one to watch for sure. I you know, it's definitely one that makes, makes me sad, but you know, I think that's part of their journey too. Like it's, it's part of it's part of what we were, we were masochists and addicted to watching this relationship between the two of them for so long. Right.
francene:Oh my God. Do you know what's interesting is you, have you seen Emily in Paris?
coryne:No, I have not watched that yet.
francene:Well, okay, for anyone that's like seen it as listening. She has a relationship with Gabrielle, who's like one of the chefs. And they're kind of like on again, off again. And to be honest, I immediately got bored. I'm like, I'm done. Why are you all, you know what I mean? I'm like, I just. It's like they didn't give enough. I don't know. They didn't set. I don't know what it is. Whereas Big and Carrie, honestly, if they had another season, I will continue. Like, there's just something about both of them that you just want to, you want it to work for both.
coryne:Right, right, right. Well, and there's so many shows that have done this, like, you know, will they, won't they? Yeah, that's another one that like forever we could have watched that, but I feel like it's it's They something about the way they wrote big and carry like it's it's special. It's like it's yeah, it is thing It stands out in their storyline because it's it's messy and it's beautiful and it's you know It's stylish like it has so many elements. It's more
francene:like real life, I guess
coryne:Maybe, yeah, maybe it's more raw than the other ones that we've seen.
francene:Yeah.
coryne:I don't know that we were on a break moment with Ross and Rachel sticks in my gullet too.
francene:Same. We love friends. Oh,
coryne:I know. One of my faves.
francene:All right. Well, we will be back for the next episode. And yeah,
coryne:season two, episode 13, Lucky
francene:13 games we play.
coryne:Games we play. Ooh, Taylor Swift reference.
francene:Right? I know.
