City After Dark: Rediscovering Sex and the City
City After Dark Season 2 Episode 15 Shortcomings
Coryne & Francene are back this week with episode 15 - which p.s francene forgot to press record at the beginning of the show... therefore less pre-show banter! sorry y'all
Miranda considered Sunday a nightmare because children swarm everywhere, there is even a family hour at her gym, but it did allow her to meet hunky Simon Cobb, indulgent divorced father of rascal Simon, who loves to push the elevator's buttons, and his; when Simon surprises her naked in the lo after a hot night, that signs her marching-orders. Carrie met fiction writer Vaughn Wysel at a lunch; he presents her to mother Wallis, her partner Duncan, a teacher, and sisters Franny and Zoe, who all insist she stays for a seafood feast; six hours later he can finally jump her bones, yet his sperm beats him to the post. She keeps dating and doing him for his whole family, mainly the fascinating mother, an Oscar-nominated documentary maker, despite his recurring precipitous wetness, but precisely her liberating education without sexual taboos proves unsurmountable. Charlotte receives her studly brother Wesley, about to be divorced from Lesley; he tickles Samantha's fancy at first sight. Charlotte explodes finding Sam in her guest-room wearing only his T-shirt, but when Wesley explains he needed the sex after two sexually frustrated years with his frigid wife, Charlotte goes make up.
Oh,
coryne:did it just start
francene:my life? I just had a moment and I was like, wait, did I click record?
coryne:It's okay. I
francene:Oh, listen. We just had some good banter. We forgot to press record. Reset. Reset. Reset. Okay. So, episode two, oh Christ, season two, episode 15, shortcomings as we've just discussed the first couple of scenes it starts off where. Miranda's in the gym and she's talking from like a narrative standpoint just saying what would be like the worst nightmare and it's family hour at the gym and these kids are just running, fucking riot everywhere.
coryne:Which is, I've never heard of family hour at any gym, and I feel like it is. There's no way that's realistic because it looks like an absolute lawsuit waiting to happen. Especially with Miranda there. I mean, these kids are feral, first of all. And like, there's no gym that's gonna allow them to just run rampant among, like, all of the serious, legitimate Equipment. Yeah, they're like
francene:on the equipment. Oh my God. No parents in sight. Yeah.
coryne:And like a kid runs over to Miranda and like tickles her tummy while she's like lifting. Honestly, I can't believe she didn't just like,
francene:she knowing Miranda. Yeah, exactly. She, she does not come across as like a kid person. Even,
coryne:even when she has a kid.
francene:So then Miranda gets into the lift and there's a guy with his son there and she goes to click the elevator button. The guy's like, no, no, no, don't touch it. Don't touch it. And she's like, Whoa, why? What is going on? And he's like, Oh, my kid, Simon wants to push the button. And she's like, okay, well, I'm in a rush, so politely hurry the fuck up.
coryne:Yeah. She's being, I mean, you call it polite. I feel like she's like, whatever. But like, let's. Frickin let's go here. We don't, yeah,
francene:yeah. She's being a little bit like sure. And of course, natural kid in that situation clicks all the buttons.
coryne:Yeah. And she's just like, Oh my God. Like instantly just like, I regret that I allowed you this opportunity child. Clearly you could not trust it. And his dad, his dad is like, Oh, and he's like, I'm so sorry. And you know, it's. You know, he tries to apologize for it, but I mean
francene:throws out some cute compliments to like, Oh, Simon, that's not how we treat this pretty lady. Yeah. Well,
coryne:maybe I'm less angry now.
francene:You can tell, isn't it interesting? Like with Miranda, you give her some of the affirmation, like she'll come around.
coryne:Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. She just needs a few little compliments and she'll come right around to your liking to whatever's going on. I feel like I'm like
francene:that a
coryne:little
francene:bit. I like that little affirmation compliment. I'm like, I'm no longer angry. Give me one more.
coryne (2):Somehow, somehow.
francene:So yeah, so the guy mentions to Miranda What was he saying? He's like, Oh, I'm in the middle of a divorce. So I, yeah, he said he gets away with a lot,
coryne:right? He's trying to apologize for his asshole child. And he basically says that like he that he's, he's going through a divorce or he's, he is divorced. And so he's like in an overindulgent stage with the kid or whatever. And Miranda kind of is like, gives him like the, okay, I understand, you know, whatever. And then didn't they finally make it? to the floor that Miranda, the first floor that she's trying to get off of. And so she's like, okay, we'll buy. And she like steps off the elevator and he's like, could I convince you to take another ride? And I love how the door is closing and obviously Miranda hit the button and it like opened back up. And so she
francene:comes back.
coryne:Yeah. She gets back on the elevator to ride, I guess, back up to the top. And I was
francene:wondering, I'm like, is that what he was doing? Just going up and down
coryne:elevator? I don't know. Yeah, that's a good question. Maybe the kid likes to ride the elevator.
francene:Don't we all. I mean, I get it.
coryne:So then it monologues that he asked her out to dinner while they were, or did he did, was it dinner or he just asked her out? He
francene:just asked her out. Yeah. And of course, Miranda says, yes. So then she takes this conversation to brunch with the girls. And one of the things she talks about is She's like, is it too much to ask to have, to not have something used alluding to the fact that he is divorced?
coryne:Well, and it's an interesting thing because she, it's not so much that she like the, I would have thought that the major concern that she would have brought up was the kid. But it's really more that he's been married before and that he's, you know, she's equating him to like used goods. And Samantha jumps in with like excellent advice per the use. And she's like, you know, I just feel like we should just round up all the divorce men and put them in the pound. And then. That way you, like, have a full understanding of their background before you decide to take them home with you.
francene:Yeah. Excellent advice,
coryne:Samantha. You know what you're
francene:getting.
coryne:Yes, I like it. I like that point. But yeah, the girls definitely seem very like it's very much like a, in the negative column for, it seems like all four of them. Which
francene:is interesting, again, specifically about the divorce. Right. I mean, I, nowadays, I mean, I just don't see it being an issue
coryne:now. I mean, I feel like it might be an age thing for them because they're still in their like mid thirties. But even then, I mean, I feel like at this age, like if someone has not been married by the time they're in their mid to late thirties or forties, that is a red flag. Like no one ever in 40 years wanted to commit to you or vice versa, that something's there. Right. Something's going on there. Like
francene:that. Well, even do you remember that episode of friends with like Phoebe buffet when she was dating Mike Callahan?
coryne:Yes.
francene:And she typically know the names she did
coryne:banana hammock. I loved it. So good. They were
francene:the best couple. Then Ross said something to Mike about like Phoebe had never been in like, even just like a long term relationship. Yeah, yeah. And she was like, Yeah.
coryne:And it was something that like was a whole.
francene:Because Mike had been married. He'd been divorced, right? Mm
coryne:hmm. And it was like a whole thing of concern for him that became like a big conversation. I think it was one of the ways, one of the reasons why they ended up changing their name.
francene:Oh,
coryne:that's. Part of that storyline. Oh, so funny. That show.
francene:I love him. So then Charlotte talks about her brother's in town, Wesley, who is currently going through divorce with Higgs, his wife, Leslie. So the girls have a little bit of banter around the name, Wesley and Leslie. But for me, one of the weird things is like she makes a comment on, Oh, I'm so close to my brother. Like he means so much to me. Like girls, you know, I want you to be nice to him. I want him to, you know, come out for dinner or whatever it is. But it's interesting. They've never met before.
coryne:I know it's super interesting. It's something that comes up a couple other times in the show with like, like Miranda has. Sisters that she alludes to in the first season and then like later when her mom, like in later episodes, her mom dies, like it's just one sister that shows up and they never have their like nuclear family or their biological family involved in the show. But even we even talked about it with big and like his, his life outside of carry like friends, you know, his mom comes into the picture. In that, you know, season, it's very, it's, it's a very interesting dynamic that they don't ever really touch it. They couldn't afford more actors.
francene:For sure. But it is interesting because a lot of this episode is, is speaking about family to an extent, but what's always interesting relatable now, because, you know, we obviously moved away from home and I would say like our friends are. Like our family, I would equate them to the same but it's interesting how they're the same, like their foursome is like, they are their immediate family and support network.
coryne:Definitely. And I think that that is, you know, that's something that a lot of us experience. It is adults. It's like you, the family you make is, you know, the ones you lean on more than the family you were born into, you know? And I, it might also be like a symptom of living in New York where like, that is such a like society within and of itself. And I feel like, you know, if you, especially, I think there's a lot of people who like moved away from home to go to live in New York.
francene:And so it
coryne:might just be like a proximity thing too.
francene:They just never leave. They're like, you come, you come visit me, Wesley. Why
coryne:would you? I'm not going
francene:to come see you. I'm in New York
coryne:City. Well, I'm not coming to Connecticut.
francene:So then we then split to Carrie's walking down the street and she mentions about she's been dating someone, Vaughn. Yes. So first impressions.
coryne:I mean, you know, I love this actor, Justin Theroux, and like, he when she's kind of introducing in a monologue who he is, he's a writer, and she's like, you know, writers are so much hotter than they used to be, and he definitely has a certain vibe, like, when you first see him, one of the things that stood out to me, though, is he's got like a collared
francene:Short
coryne:sleeved shirt on and it's buttoned all the way up.
francene:I feel like that was very much the trend at that
coryne:time. I don't know that was ever a good trend. I feel
francene:like it was a big thing in the UK. Like guys would wear it like all the way up.
coryne:Yeah, well he's definitely leaning into that vibe and, but I think he's, I liked him. I thought he was like initially like he's cute and like, I love that he's a writer and like they look really cute together.
francene:Yeah, and he did mention like to your point about, Just his look. He did say that GQ reached out to him and she was like, Oh, to write something. And he's like, No, they want me to wear something. Or I guess model something. So that just alludes to the fact that he is very much that model. Desirable. Look, I would say. Yeah,
coryne:right. Yeah, he's definitely got that. Well, I think it's also like
francene:Quirkiness.
coryne:Yeah. Quirky model. He had like a unique look.
francene:Yeah.
coryne:Yeah.
francene:So he mentions when they get together, he's like, look, I need to drop something off. I think it's like his books that his mom asked him to sign and drop off. And Carrie's like, no, no, no, no, no, no. Like, I'm not, I'm not ready. I liked it
coryne:so much that like, they obviously have not been dating long and it's like the most casual thing ever that like they're headed to a movie and he's like, what? I'm going to drop by my parents and hand them this on the way. Like he's totally like, it was so, yeah, and Carrie's cool with it until they get to their steps. And he's like, come on, let's go in. And he's, she's like, Oh no, I'm not dressed to meet family. And to be fair, she's wearing like a hot pink bra. Yeah. Which she does this so much in her fashion. Like Carrie was like the originator of the exposed bra. And like, not in like a oops way, but like, that chick always will have like some loud ass colored bra on underneath something that like, You can see, there's no way that wasn't going to stick out of that outfit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so, yeah, I get it. She's totally not dressed. And she's also, did you notice the mix of patterns in this outfit?
francene:Oh, yeah, there was a lot from like her skirt to like her top. It was like a
coryne:tie dyed top with like a more like structured patterned skirt. Yeah. Different color sets. Yeah. Like, and then a hot pink bra.
francene:Yeah, she just gets away with it. Yeah. Like she looks great.
coryne:She looks great. Yeah. And
francene:her hair is all like, I love this like era of her hair.
coryne:Her hair is really good. It's like a little classic. Yeah. It's good. I like the roots going on in it. Oh yeah. Same.
francene:Like everything, honestly, fashion wise, this episode, and I touch on it in like the last scene. I know what you're gonna say. Oh. I'm just, I'm, this is classic Carrie. It is. So then, Okay, so they go into the house, obviously Carrie reluctantly and he introduces Carrie to like, I mean, his whole family are there.
coryne:Sisters, mom, dad, sister,
francene:dad comes out and the mom is like, wait, you look so familiar. Have we met before? And Carrie's like.
coryne:I don't think so. Because mom is a professor.
francene:Yes.
coryne:Of, of, what is it? Sex. But I think it's something, anyway, something more eloquent than that, but that's her specialty is like, sex, education, all that stuff, but she, she knows Carrie. She recognizes her name and she's a huge fan of Carrie's work. I love
francene:that.
coryne:Which I think is interesting, I know, and like, how sweet for Carrie. Yeah, that recognition
francene:and like, is just the way the mom is so excited that she yells her husband like the dad, she's like, Duncan, Duncan, guess who's here? And he comes through and it seems like they all have like a really cool personality, like, and he's immediately like. Oh, what are you doing on Thursday evening? And she's like laundry. And he's like, please, will you come speak at my session?'cause he works at Ivy League College University, right? Yes.
coryne:And so, like Vaughn obviously comes from like a very put together family who seems on the, you know, from what we're learning in these moments, like super tight knit. educated, personable, like really cool people. It's like the dream family vibe of like, you meet somebody and you like them, but then you meet their family and you're like, Oh, this is even better.
francene:Yes. Oh yeah. Perfect. Fun. I would love this family. I know I would fit straight in.
coryne:Oh yeah. I love this for sure.
francene:And also, do you know, what made me laugh too is. Again, this kind of sets the tone on how open the family are between themselves is, didn't the mom say something about, Oh, I just wrote something on re virginization. And she says to Vaughn, she's like, and you've not read it yet. I'm waiting for your notes. Yes. Yes.
coryne:Yeah. And was she, she suggests to Carrie that she needs to do her next article on regeneration. And then Vaughn says, he's like, well, mom just completed a documentary on genital mutilation. Yeah. And she's like, I still need your notes. And so they're obviously like, very, you know, like exist in a space where that is a very common conversation. Open.
francene:Yeah. Which I, like, when you think about it from the outside, you then have Carrie that has a sex column. I'm like, I mean, this is
coryne:dream, dream family.
francene:Yeah. Perfect family. I'm here for all of this. So then they were like, okay, well, we're just getting ready to have dinner and they're like, come join us. And really they're like, you don't have a choice. And I think he's a little bit more reluctant and she's like, no, like, of course we'll stay.
coryne:Yeah, they do a little convincing, but there's not a lot of a choice. And she's finally like, no, we can stay. We can stay. Like, let's stay. I mean, I would.
francene:I would too.
coryne:Yes, they seem so freaking wonderful. Like, I love the whole family. I would want to stay for sure.
francene:Yeah, great house. Just, oh yeah, I'm here for it. Oh my gosh, we have a special guest.
coryne:My dog is not leaving me alone. She wants to be held. You know, In my lap while I talk.
francene:Okay, then it cuts to Miranda. So this goes back to my comment from the last episode saying that they film more and more live scenes in New York. So this is Miranda on a date with the dad at Central Park. Park.
coryne:Yes. And they, yeah, it's like actually central park and they're you know, they're walking. I actually, I rarely like Miranda's outfits and I love this one on her. Same.
francene:I wrote that too. I said, her outfit is super cute. Always give compliment when it's G from Miranda. For
coryne:real. It's rare. We have to build them in. We have to build them. I will say this of her though, her hair going on with your hair and like in the gym scene. Oh, but then this, with this outfit where she has like the little clip in the front and it's like pulling those bang situation. It's cute. Like cute on this date, but like.
francene:Oh, normal cases. I know. Yeah. So Simon continues to just run riot and he He hits Miranda with a stick, which is fucking hilarious. In the
coryne:head! In the head! It's funny, the way they filmed it, it's like you don't even realize the kid's with them on the date. No. Cause they're just strolling. Out of nowhere, like, whack! Like, right on the
francene:head! But don't, so that is one of my observation. So going back to the conversation she had with the girls where they were more specifically talking about like him being divorced, right? Like that piece. And I might be wrong in thinking this, but just knowing Miranda's character, it feels like she part mentalized. the kid.
coryne:I know. You know what I
francene:mean? Cause even like, I don't, I don't really know how to explain it, but I just kind of got that
coryne:vibe. I also have questions about why this divorced dad would not. Make arrangements so he could take you on a first date without his freaking kid there.
francene:But he did, he also makes the comment, and I appreciate like some people would just use that term, but he did say, I think in the date, something about being a single father.
coryne:Yeah, but that means you're not married. Like, well, that's
francene:what I thought. But then I don't know.
coryne:Yeah. Like why wouldn't you just plan it on when your ex wife had her? I know. I don't know either,
francene:especially for like a first date, but I, yeah, I, I don't know. I mean, I guess when you look at like future scenes and how he acts. I don't know. Yeah, it was just an observation. I just thought it was a little bit odd. And then they are kind of talking about I don't know how they got in the subject, but he says something about, oh, you must be. Put off or you must think I'm so dull just with, you know, the kind of lifestyle I have. But he was like, I just want someone to be at home. Like, I just, I just want that kind of relationship piece. And she's like, Oh no. He says like, it's very old fashioned. Whereas Amanda's here for it.
coryne:Yeah, she says it's, it must be hard to have a social life. Oh, that was it. Yeah. And he's like, to be honest, I never had one before. Like I'm just like one of those rare guys who just wants, you know, a family and a home life kind of thing. That would be
francene:an alarm bell for me because then I'd be like, wait, so where are your friends? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is your life. Right.
coryne:You're not social, but, but who, who would have eaten that? I mean, Miranda eats it up, but who would have, that is the freaking Holy grail for them. Like Charlotte would have been like,
francene:I know, I know. Which again is interesting that Miranda's just like, Oh, it's boring. I love that.
coryne:She, she's someone that I feel like would be like expecting him to like, you know, be like, Oh, but my career is my passion. I know. Yeah.
francene:Same.
coryne:That effect. Yeah.
francene:Yeah. Same. So I, I don't know. And then it cuts to Charlotte is in her apartment, her brother Wesley staying with her. And she bakes these most beautiful muffins. They're so large. How did she get them in the oven?
coryne:She has a humongous cupcake tin, obviously. Like gorgeous. Yeah. Like the
francene:size of my head. And she keeps on pushing him to the muffin, obviously to help him with the divorce. And he's like, Charlotte, I just want vodka. If you're not got anything else stronger in this house. No.
coryne:It is interesting too, that this house that Charlotte's in, that's different than her normal apartment. Yeah. It's nice. It's that's a totally different place and also it's very interesting to kind of watch how charlotte is dealing with the fact that her brother Is going through a divorce and she's very much like not Like understanding the severity of the situation or like she's kind of like living in la la land Yeah. What he's going.
francene:Yeah. Cause she's like, can't you make it work? Like try. And he, he doesn't go into details at this piece. Like it just seems like reading between the lines, he's like, I just needed to get away for the weekend. I just want to have some fun. Yeah. And she's like, let's just talk about it and have some muffins.
coryne:She's like, let's, she's obviously taking the girl approach, like, let's talk it through and cry and eat muffins and some ice cream.
francene:So then it cuts to this scene of Carrie literally falling into her apartment, kissing Vaughn. They're all over each other. She's literally ripping his clothes off. And I think there's commentary on like, it was like the whole afternoon, it was like foreplay. She's. Yeah. Ready?
francene (2):Yeah.
francene:And then she just goes to grab him down there and boom.
coryne:Yep, that's it. All done. All done. It's
francene:just the way she's like, Oh let me get you a tissue.
coryne:So embarrassing. And like, she's still like, mostly clothed. Yeah, he is like,
francene:she ripped his clothes off. Yeah,
coryne:they were ready. And they just like, move on. And so then does it cut next to the girls together? Yes,
francene:now they're
coryne:talking about it. Did you notice Charlotte isn't in this breakfast scene?
francene:I did notice that, yeah.
coryne:Obviously with her brother, I guess.
francene:That's kind of what I was thinking also. Did you see what like Miranda and Carrie were eating? Just leaves. It didn't even look like a salad. It looked like just lettuce.
coryne:I didn't miss it. I noticed they were all three eating a salad, but I didn't. I missed it. That
francene:looks like the most unappetizing salad ever. And then Carrie is like, I like him, but I like his family better. And she's like, it's like the Tom Cruise of families.
coryne:No, the, yeah, she's like, they're so charismatic, it's like the, and she's right, like, He's in love with the family. Yeah. The family is equally as attractive as the dude at this point.
francene:Which, I mean, I, I get it. So then after that conversation, it cuts to Carrie's writing her column. And one of the things she says is when you're dating someone, how many people are you emotionally involved with? But when you sleep with someone, are you screwing the family?
coryne:That's quite, I've never, I've never thought that through. Yeah, I've never thought that through.
francene:I'm like, what? You can see that at this point, normal Carrie, had she not met the family, I don't know how much still she would be into this.
coryne:Samantha, too, says, she's like, honey, he couldn't get the Cadillac into the garage. And she says, she's like, look, look, I hate to be right about this, but I know what's coming.
francene:He's so like, matter of fact, as well.
coryne:Oh, so funny. So funny.
francene:No. So then as we continue to see this, like, dilemma for Carrie, she's out for brunch with his mother.
coryne:Just his mother. I just love that
francene:so
coryne:much. And there, well, because her, his, his mother, to be fair, is like a very interesting person. Someone like an older version of Carrie, honestly. Yes. Yeah. They were
francene:very compatible. And also you can tell, like, from just some of the encouraging words she gives to Carrie. She's also in a, in a way I would say like motherly, like to Carrie. In the way she's like, you know, you should be so proud. Like you've done so great. This is amazing. When you talk about, like, I appreciate Carrie getting some of that genuine affirmation from someone of like. Not older, but like a mentor type.
coryne:Well, she's obviously achieved a level of success in a career path close to Carrie. Yeah. I think too, it's it kind of touches on like Carrie lacking a parental relationship. Yes. She's like getting that cup filled, you know, like a parental type, you know, being proud of you kind of thing.
francene:Yeah, which I love for her. And then the mom goes and says that she's, you know, how she's brought her kids up and she's like, always spoken very openly about sex. Like we've never said, you know, like flower or peepee or whatever. She's like, we have always used the correct terminology. And she was like, my kids are very comfortable speaking about it.
coryne:We've been talking about it since they were two. Like she, yeah. She's like, it was always an open conversation in my house.
francene:Carrie's like, okay, good to know. That's open. Yes. He broached
coryne:this next time. Yeah. We'll talk about it. We'll talk about it.
francene:So then Charlotte's out for drinks with Wesley. Charlotte looks beautiful in this scene. I love her outfit.
coryne:Yes.
francene:She looks just exceptional. And then Carrie comes with Sam. And do you, did you see the way Charlotte's like shit?
coryne:No, I mean, so this scene is one of the ones that like, I will forever hold against Charlotte, but like literally as, as Sue, I guess she must've only invited Carrie. Brought Samantha and as soon as she sees Samantha behind Carrie, her face just like falls and she's like, oh, what is she doing here? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, this is not okay And so they walk up and she introduces him to her brother and of course like Carrie's like, oh It's so nice to meet you and Samantha's like well, hello
francene:I mean, Wesley's a good looking guy. Yeah,
coryne:Samantha looks great per the uge. And I love that they're like, just, you know, he's like, can I get you two ladies a drink and, and Samantha's like cosmopolitan and Carrie's like, ditto. And that's it. That's all it took. And Charlotte's like, come this way.
francene:Come with me.
coryne:Come here. And she pulls Carrie aside, which I think is so funny. And she's like, what is she doing here? And. Carrie's response is the best. She's like that's our friend, Samantha. I believe you've met. Oh my God. It just
francene:makes me laugh too. When Wesley like comes over and he's like, Hey, Samantha just said there's a cool jazz bar. So maybe we should all go and try it. I'm just not really feeling it. And he's like, okay, well we can just go. And she turns and Carrie's like, jazz bar.
coryne:They know. Well she's like, they're just talking. And then and then he comes over and says that. And Carrie's like, talking and going to jazz bars? Like what? Just like trying to downplay it. Oh, it's so funny. Charlotte is. I
francene:love this. I love, yeah, it's. It is interesting how you have that dynamic with friends, right? Because you all know each other so well, but it's just interesting knowing that Charlotte's immediately like, She's about to bat my brother.
coryne:Well, this is a really interesting way that they kind of play the chosen family over the born in family. Yes. Yeah. You love your chosen family, you know, infinitely, infinitely. And until there's crossover in here.
francene (2):And
coryne:then you're like, no, related to, and you're like, you're detain. That's not I can't do that. Don't don't do it. Don't do it.
francene:So then we go to Miranda's in bed with the dad guy. And she gets up. Obviously, they've just had a good moment of passion. And so she's in the bathroom peeing.
coryne:OK, first of all, her fucking hair. It looks very distressed. And like, they had a lot of fun in
francene:that bed,
coryne:but like, you can't just like, you know, smooth that, like, it's like your first time, like her hair is so shoveled and like the color that it is right now is like, it's not red, it's like this dark brown red ish.
francene:Yeah,
coryne:I, yeah, I also feel, yeah, so
francene:it's too dark for her features.
coryne:Her hair right now looks like what my Barbie doll's hair looked like when I was three and I cut all its hair off. That's what it looks like. Like, what the fuck? Like, I
francene:don't think that's the best comparison. I know. So Simon, like, goes to open the door and like, Hey, I fully Understand the reaction around a hat where she like launches forward to like push the door naked. First of all, yeah, yeah.
coryne:A
francene:hundred percent. Cause you're like, okay, I don't want anyone to see me in this situation. So as she pushes the door, it obviously hits. Simon. And he's, you know, crying and screaming and she comes out and, and to be fair, she has a good explanation. I'm like, I'm so sorry. And like, I didn't mean it. And, you know, I just. I didn't want you to see me in this compromising position. Yeah,
coryne:she says she's like, I didn't want him to see me like that. And then like, it comes up in therapy. Yeah, she makes a joke about it. I appreciate that. Trying to make it lighthearted. And dad is not impressed.
francene:No, he is very protective and is just
coryne:like.
francene:You
coryne:should go bleeding and she's like, let me get you a band aid and he's like, I think she needs a stitch. Yeah.
francene:She's
coryne:like, I'll come to urgent care and he's
francene:like, you should just go.
coryne:Just go. It reminds me of the episode with Samantha and the live in Oh, yes. Yes,
francene (2):but
francene:yes, so this is where I was going with this. Like you wonder why someone continues to be single, right? Depending on obviously he's going through a divorce. So now if he didn't have friends prior, he's now taking this relationship with his son where it's like, it's just me and him.
coryne (2):Yeah,
francene:you know, I mean, so you can't see past that versus I mean, let's be honest, if that happened, like tomorrow with either one of our doors, you'd be like, it was an accident,
coryne:you know,
francene:immediately going to be like, you need to get the fuck out this house,
coryne:right? No, I mean, yeah, I think it happens. Yeah, it happens. I think this is a very you know, blown out view of what that could can be like, you know, with I mean, you're always
francene:going to choose your son,
coryne:which is, you have to, and also you have to be like realistic in the world of like, you know, you like, let's, again, it's like the overindulgent parent, like your son should, number one, I have, I have several, but number one, again, why is he there? I know when they,
francene:I know. What time is it?
coryne:You know, yeah, you never, like when you're just dating someone, like you shouldn't have them around your kid yet. First of all, I know. I agree. And like, second of all, the first for months that you spend the night with a new person, I wouldn't do it with my kid there. Yeah, I agree. You know, you either need to plan a babysitter or you like he, you should have like shared custody here. Like you're not a widower. I know,
francene:but that's it. Yeah. Why would you use the time?
coryne:Even if you were a widower still I wouldn't think it's a good idea to have someone new around your kid that quickly like you get a babysitter and you go stay the night at Miranda's house, you know, I mean, look at
francene:the holiday.
coryne:Yeah, it was definitely too much. That was too much too soon. And like it you were setting up the situation to fail is my point that like, yeah, Miranda Miranda,
francene:like it's not fair.
coryne:Yeah, for sure.
francene:So obviously they're over.
coryne:And that was, and that's that. That was that.
francene:And just like that, Miranda's single once more. Once more. So then the next morning, Charlotte. Charlotte wakes up. She's all sleepy. She walks through to her kitchen. There is Samantha wearing Wesley's tea and she's reaching up in the cupboards. She's like, where is your, what was she looking for, like tea or something? And Charlotte is
coryne:So like fortified, he goes from zero to just petty bitch and like,
francene:yeah, this is like mean
coryne:girl. Shit. This is mean girl shit. And like, this is the stuff that like. You know, Charlotte and Samantha are friends, but Charlotte freaking tells on herself right here.
francene:Oh, I know.
coryne:And like, so she
francene:says, She's like, is your vagina in the New York City Guide? Cause it's the hottest thing in town. It's always open.
coryne:Yeah, like tourists are just coming through and she's like, what are you doing? She gets so mad and Samantha, I mean, justifiably so, is fucking pissed. And like, just if looks could kill. And at this moment, Wesley walks in wearing the worst freaking shorts I have ever seen on a man. Oh, my dad bod. What are you wearing right now? He's got on like, like a polo tucked into him with a belt. It's bad. There's no way that was ever a good look. Okay. There's no and he goes to like kiss Samantha. And Samantha's like pushes him and she's just like, she's like, I'm out stone cold at Charlotte and she storms out. And in a second, like she's leaving and to his credit, he's chasing her as he should.
francene:Yeah. I just feel like with Samantha, what's interesting. We go back to that family dynamic. I feel she can deal with shitty comments from anyone else, but in that close circle, you can tell that that cut deep.
coryne:It did. And I mean, that's the thing is like judgment on her. Samantha is lives out loud and she's extremely comfortable in her own skin, but it's getting that kind of misogynistic judgment from someone that she is, is her family and love today. Yeah, that burns for sure. And I feel her 100 percent on that. Like, I don't, I don't know how I could not have forgiven Charlotte in any short period of time for that shit.
francene:I mean, yeah, it was a very mean like I find in that situation, how Charlotte reacted is how deep down she thinks of Samantha. And there's another situation like this, it comes up where you see that judgment again, against Samantha. So yeah, I mean, I don't know, I don't know how I would have reacted. I certainly would have said something like that, but I mean like, Leslie, Samantha but I also think, and there's like a scene. That comes next that maybe we can just skip to that now. And so Charlotte's at home with Wesley and they're kind of talking about it. And he's like, look, last night I needed it. Like I needed just to like have sex. And he was like, yeah, he was like one thing you don't know about Wesley and Leslie. Leslie's rigid and we've not had sex in two years. And Charlotte's like, wait, so this was a good thing. And he's like, yes. And she's like, So Samantha's a good friend. You're like, yes,
coryne:he's like you have a really good friend in her. That's it. I was like, but wait, say that wasn't doing that to be a good friend. Okay. She was doing it because she thought open
francene:opportunity. Yeah.
coryne:Yeah. I mean, not to discount that Samantha absolutely is a great friend and somebody like, if I gotta pick people to take over a prison with, she's on my team. Oh,
francene:for sure. Yeah, for sure.
coryne:Yeah, but they, so Charlotte obviously realizes what a fucking contasaurus she has been. Now she's like, like, Oh, what did I do?
francene:I love that she shows up as Samantha's apartment and she's like, I'm sorry. And Samantha's like, is that all you needed to say? And didn't she say She's like, I don't have a lot
coryne:of time. I've got another tour group coming through. So I,
francene:and she gives her the muffins and Samantha's like, come in and she hugs her and Charlotte says, thank you for fucking my brother.
coryne:Yeah. And as she walks through, she as she walks into the house, she like smacks her on the butt.
francene:I honestly, I love Samantha for being able to like. Yeah,
coryne:I got through that. Yeah, Samantha is is great for sure for being able to like it. I mean, yeah, because I'm telling you that would have taken me months to like, swallow that shit. That was that was harsh.
francene:Yeah, it's a lot. So then so going back, so we cut to Carrie who's with Vaughn. And they're in that by the way, white briefs. I can't, I can't. It's like the grossest look on a guy.
coryne:Yeah, it's not cute. I don't know why I just can't he's guy. I don't know like well Doesn't he come out of that? No, he comes out of this. We know the showers after this showers after this. Yeah
francene:after this
coryne:Yeah,
francene:he's on there in bed and she starts. Oh, I just can't she starts touching him and immediately Yeah.
coryne:Yeah. Yeah. Like they, he, he's the one who initiates it. He's like, you know. That's
francene:right. Cause they were having a conversation and she was talking about like the documentary about like his mom made and he's like, Hey, I don't want to speak about my mom right now. I want to speak about you. So then they literally, I mean, light touching, light,
coryne:light, light
francene:touching,
coryne:like touches the stomach. Done. He's
francene:done. I love the fact she has a tissue, like. Behind her the box of tissues. So she just grabs it And she's like and then she goes straight back to the conversation. She's like
coryne:Back on her back with her arm behind her head. She's like so anyway about that documentary She's like unfazed If I had the the situation, oh my gosh
francene:Yeah, especially that
coryne:fast. That's so fast. No, that's like, that's a, that's a kind of fastness that I don't know if ED meds would even help, you know. That's what I mean, yeah. It's like literally, how hard must that be in your life? I don't know. I can't, I can't imagine, I mean like, Like is it pleasurable at that point? For the guy? I
francene:don't know. I'd be curious.
coryne:I would think that it feels the same for a guy, but I also, Then it's just quick. It's like, so quick, but I think that guys get so much enjoyment out of like, watching, you know, you get pleasure from. So there'd be. Unless you're selfish, but yeah. But like, I feel like there's like I don't know. That seems like that. I mean, because the thing is, is like, he obviously knows this is a problem with any woman he's ever going to be with, been with. Like, it's, you know, an issue. So like, I think that that there would be so much like. Shame or disappointment around that part of, I don't know, it doesn't seem like anybody's real happy about it. Poor guy. But also, like, you're in your thirties. Like, you haven't, like, you know, I don't know, done anything to figure that out yet. I know, which is
francene:interesting. So then it comes to Miranda in the gym. She does her workout at the same fucking time as the family time. Again, come on, Miranda. Like, don't go on Sundays, Miranda. I already know that happens. I know.
coryne:I've been to your gym twice. Marinda.
francene:So then she goes into the elevator and there's a mom there with her kid and she's like, wait, wait, wait, he likes to push and she's like, well, so do I and clicks the button. Take me.
francene (2):She's
coryne:like, fuck that kid. Fuck you. Fuck you. Get out of my gym. I do love it though.
francene:Okay. So now is the scene where they go back to Carrie in her apartment. She's sitting in bed reading his book and he is, I don't know, out of the shower, still in the white braids. The worst.
coryne:No, he has a brown towel wrapped around him this time. Cause he looks hot. Yes. He's got like six pack muscles. Like he looks good. And she's reading his book and he's like super turned on. But That she's sitting in bed reading his book and like she turns a page like, Oh, do it again, like, you know, like turn another page. And so, you know, he's obviously Randy for her and she comes and like sits in bed with her and he starts to kiss her and she's like, okay, okay, like, let's just go really slow. And she's obviously trying to like communicate about it and because she's
francene:been speaking about this since they were two.
coryne:Yeah, he's going to be comfortable talking about this, right? And so she's like. Let's try to like, you know, A, communicate about it, B, change the trajectory here of like how quickly this is gonna go, and he is immediately put off.
francene:Yeah, he like retracts. Honestly, he acts like a child. He's like, I don't like, it's even the way like great acting, but it's the way he's like, I don't want to talk about it. It's like he's talking to his mom.
coryne:Yes. And he says, he even says, he's like, I've been talking about this since I was two.
francene:I'm sick of
coryne:it. Like, Oh, this right here, this scene though, is like a great. They were doing it. They did a great job of like showcasing the, like that mom thinks that she raised children that are unbelievably comfortable talking about their sexuality because she was always present about it, except it a hundred percent backfired in this son of hers. A
francene:hundred percent. Yeah. So then what's interesting is they then, I guess, continue spending the day together. Cause then they go. To the oh no, then Carrie says, well, I guess we need to get ready. We need to go to like his parents
coryne:and he's like, come on. And he's like, pouty pouty. He's like, we got to go. My parents are expecting us. So that's it. Yeah. Yeah. They're planning to go over to his parents again. For another like brunch with the family. How
francene:moody is he? So they're all like chit chatting. They're all having the best time, like the full family. And he's in the background being so fucking moody. I hate people like that.
coryne:Yeah. He's a total moody bitch. And like your
francene:own issues, you so emotional. Yeah, I know, and you're unwilling to talk about it. But yeah, like he, what was he looking for? Like fucking, scallion,
coryne:scallion cream cheese, like a special price. And he couldn't find. Like, hollering at his mom, like, Mom, where are the, and she's like, trying to have a conversation with Carrie and the group of, you know, the sisters and the dad, and he's being a little, a child. He's being a child.
francene:Yeah, I would hate that. And you can tell, like, Carrie's just feeling uncomfortable, so but the mom is like, what's your deal? What's going on? And then Carrie's like, Hey I have a deadline. I'm, I'm gonna have to go. So she makes excuses. He
coryne:sits down and he like throws the bowl of cream cheese onto the table and he says something snarky to his mom. And she's like, let's talk about what's really Going on with you and he's like shitty to her and then carry like to be fair like carries I it would be like I wouldn't have the balls to do it like that to just be like I'm Leaving in front of like the whole thing. I would have been like I would have snuck away to the bathroom And then shot him a text
francene:Yeah, I'd be like what the fuck?
coryne:Yeah, but she like just Stands up and leaves and like, obviously awkward moment. The whole family knows that, you know, she's leaving because he is being an ass and, and she goes, but he says
francene:nothing. He looks so pouty, he does nothing,
coryne:a bro child, and the mom follows her out. It is like Carrie, Carrie and like catches her at the door and Carrie Myler, she's like,
francene:don't leave like this.
coryne:Yeah, and when she says, she's like, what's going on? You guys, it was going so great and Carrie won't tell her, but the mom says, she's like, listen, his last girlfriend was not so discreet. I know what the problem is. And she fully tries to convince her that like, it can still work. And she's like, you don't need this.
francene:I'm like,
coryne:Carrie's face when she said that, she was like,
francene:no, no, but you know what else is hilarious that the mom said she's like the irony of the fact he writes short stories.
coryne:Oh my God. I love
francene:that line. I love that. And then obviously it's been an issue.
coryne:Yeah. Yeah. And, but he won't talk to his mom about it. I mean, not that that's probably the right person to talk to about it, but like. Figure your shit out or like be, be upfront about the fact that like, I'm really into you, but I have this problem.
francene:It seems like he wasn't phased by it. Like when it happened. Yeah.
coryne:Yeah. I think if Carrie had not wanted to talk about it, he could have kept, you know prematurely. I can't imagine. I know I couldn't that but then Carrie monologues that she realizes that Vaughn is not who she had to break up with. She needed to break up with his mom and like a really sweet conversation. They do
francene:the classic breakup scene.
coryne:Yeah, like I will still be friends and like she's like, Oh no, you're going to find another mother. What, what are you going to do when you meet someone else? You know, they won't have a mother like which.
francene:True.
coryne:True. Yeah.
francene:Which is obviously something Carrie had lingered longer. Yeah. And she normally would have because of
coryne:that. Because of that. Like she did, she, the feelings were mutual with the mom, for sure. Like
francene:what we have is special. Yeah. So Carrie then beautifully struts out of that house on, I would say, one of the most famous Carrie Bradshaw dresses. Yeah.
coryne:That dress looks so good on her. God, her body. I know. It clings in all the right places. And you know, I noticed for, I know, or I re noticed in this episode that for someone who is so tiny and compact, like, she's a great ass too.
francene:Oh yeah, I like good boobs. Yes, and like, yeah, she's got good round and
coryne:yeah, they're such a tiny person, but she, that dress looks so great on her and I love when she pairs the aviators with it and her hair just looks great and she's monologuing basically that like, you know, something about family and she's, and she makes the point of like the family you're born into or the family that you choose and she's like, that's my family and she's walking to where the girls are having it. Breakfast. I honestly don't expect that she's going to come like knocks on the window. And this scene I'm like, what do you do? They just go in. What do you do? She lingers too long. Like it's too long. Like that's
francene:like now I'm going to do the next time I go meet people just while I'm on the window
coryne:and then just be like. And then, like, point back and forth to her. They're like, come on. She's like, oh, I'm gonna come. I've heard it 30 times. It's this way, right? Like, I walked past it to come to the window to talk to you, but it's that way. It was too much. But then she goes in, and, like, you can't hear what they're saying, but, you know, it's, like, the girls, and she sits down, and they're, like, you know, it's a happy moment of, like, that's her family. So, yeah. That is I know, I do, I love that dynamic in the, the whole series and movies and all of that, that like they are such a family and, you know, sad for Carrie that, you know, that didn't work out. I totally feel her. I feel like I would have lingered way too long too because I love the family.
francene:Yeah, same, same. It's hard.
coryne:That's a tough one for sure.
francene:So then the next episode is season two, episode 16. Was it good for you?
coryne:Before we go, we have to do our quizzy poo that we promised from last week. Yes. So get it. Gotta pulled up. I I, let's go through it for all the, for the audience members and they can take it with us and then we'll tell you guys what we learned about ourselves. Hell yes.
francene:Okay. So what sex and city character are you? Question one. How do you handle a breakup? A. Bury yourself in work, B. Cry it out with your friends, C. Jump back into the dating pool, or D. Write about it and analyze every detail.
coryne:See on this one, like At this age, B. In my twenties, C. So I'm going to put B because that's true today, but just so y'all know. Okay. I love that. I've matured. I've matured.
francene:Yeah. Mine, mine would be burying myself in work for sure.
coryne:Yeah.
francene:All up in that. Okay. Question two, what is your go-to drink? A red wine, B champagne, C Cosmopolitan, or deep? Whatever's new and exciting.
coryne:Champagne for sure. For me, and I know that champagne. Yeah, I mean I like the, all those others as well, but like, and I drink a lot of red wine, but I like red wine. There are times when I'm like not in the mood. There's never a moment where I'm not gonna drink a glass of champagne.
francene:Same if someone offered it to me right this second, this moment. I would take it this, when I wake up in the morning,
coryne:I. 1 a. m. It doesn't matter. I'll, yes, I will.
francene:I am ready anytime, as long as it's proper champagne
coryne (2):at all times.
francene:Okay. Your ideal Saturday includes a catching up on work or running errands, be spending quality time with loved ones, see a fabulous party or date night or D exploring the city and people watching. Definitely see for me. Yeah. I see that after your great outfit the other night. Oh,
coryne (2):thank you. Thank you.
francene:Oh my God. It was so beautiful. Did you go to the post?
coryne:Yes. That's where the event was. I thought that
francene:was at the post. Yeah. It looked like it.
coryne:On top? It was really cool. Well, no, so they, the event was in the atrium, which is like, I had never seen this part of it. Cause like the main section you walk into has that beautiful atrium with the stairs. Like there's the food hall. And then on the other side of that, there's like another atrium and they rented like the whole thing. It was so cool. Oh, that's awesome. But we took the elevator up to the roof just to go take pictures up there. Oh yeah.
francene:I mean the roof. Yeah. It was really
coryne:cool. Yeah. So gorgeous. So nice
francene:there. Yeah, mine would be spending quality time with loved ones because I also see that as like friends. Yeah. Okay, four. What's your dream career? A, something stable, high powered, like a lot, like a lot of finance and looking for a guy in finance, six, five, blue one, trust fund army all B, anything that allows you to be nurturing and creative, C, being your own boss and live in life on your terms and D, a creative job where you can express yourself like writing. See, for sure. Oh, without it's out. See, yeah, I'm gonna be something stable.
coryne:Like large finance, stable and high powered. Let's be honest. I love it.
francene:Okay. Last question. What's your relationship style? A. Independent but loyal. B. Traditional and family oriented. C. Passionate and adventurous. D. Romantic but sometimes overthinking.
coryne:I would say C for me.
francene:Yeah, I see that for you and mine. Mine's I pick traditional, but I do like a from like an independent standpoint, but I'd probably be more traditional.
coryne:I feel like you have a really good blend of A and B in your real life. Yeah, but we'll call it B because it is, you know. It is traditional on its nose. I'll, I'll
francene:take the beaks. If not, I'll filter me over to the other one. Okay. So, Corinne thinks she is Samantha. She is in fact, Samantha with a touch of Charlotte. So you're a bold, confident and unapologetically yourself. That's so crazy,
coryne:because I was so afraid I was gonna be a Carrie, and I have no touches of Carrie, which is hilarious. I'm the same. Yeah,
francene:I'm the same.
coryne:I
francene:have
coryne:none of Carrie. A Samantha with a touch of Charlotte. I'm good with it. I'll take it. Yeah,
francene:I mean, it's an interesting mix.
coryne:It is.
francene:Whereas I'm mostly Charlotte, who I thought I would be.
coryne:That's so wild. We both called it.
francene:I'm like, hey, we just, which is interesting, because if you had asked me when I was younger, I would have wanted to be Carrie.
coryne:Right.
francene:We all did. And now it's like,
coryne:no. Now we're
francene:like, no, we're good. But I have a touch of Miranda, force me. So practical, ambitious, and fiercely independent.
coryne:But that's the thing is like those traits of Mirandas. Yes. I'll take it. Take that. It. Those are good ones. The hair,
francene:no fashion. No. No.
coryne:Oh, awkwardness double. No, no.
francene:So yeah, so the next time we have a cool. Spicier quiz that we can do.
coryne:Yes, and you guys take, follow, if you followed along and you answered to, with us, tell them if you got all, mostly D's you're Carrie, mostly C's is Samantha, mostly B's is Charlotte, mostly A's is Miranda, right?
francene:Yeah, so. Hell no, and, and share with us. Yeah, so D is Carrie, C is Samantha, B is Charlotte, and A is Miranda.
coryne:Yeah. Share it with us what you guys are and what you thought you would be. For sure.
francene:And we will see you next time with episode 16. And then we have a special guest.
coryne:Super exciting stuff.
