Well, we are back this week with our return trip from market for spring 2027, and, you know, we really do record this podcast in the car, and I don't edit them until after we've been back home for a few days. And today, as I was listening to it, I thought, "Lord, we don't ever need to do this again," because all three of us are so tired. You can hear it in our voices. But we did do it. We did do it for you all, and in this episode, we are talking about the things that we found, things that we're excited about 2027, some things that we thought that we might see or hoped to see, and we did see, some of our struggles, of course. A funny story about a restaurant not working out for Dwayne, and even funnier, it was a week of confessionals. You've, you've gotta stick around to hear some of the things that our sales reps told us. It was an odd week. It's never happened like this before. Well, let's get to it, and let's hear all the fun things that are coming for 2027

Well, let's get to it, and let's hear all the fun things that are coming for 2027
Speaker 2Oh, you started.
SpeakerWell, yeah, I'm starting. I did start recording. Oh. Yes. Well, you can tell we're days into this. So market Well, market is not over. We're done with market. Done.
Speaker 2Done.
SpeakerHeading home- Yeah thank the sweet Lord.
Speaker 2I'm still driving.
SpeakerHe's... Stuart's still driving.
Speaker 2And I'm still riding.
SpeakerI just had a little, um, we had a little snack. We stopped at some brand of gas station that I don't really know of. Um, they had the slowest pump on the earth.
Speaker 312 minutes. Wiggles Waggle's, hey? Something.
SpeakerI don't know. I don't know. It was something. Um, and I got me a nice little- What was the- Lunchable. I got me a little lunch. I got me a charcuterie board. I got me charcuterie.
Speaker 2Charcuterie.
SpeakerUm, so we are on our way home, and we have spring 2027 in the books. Well, who... God only knows what they're gonna send to us, but- Yeah how do, how do we feel? How do we feel about what we found, what we saw?
Speaker 2Well- Dwayne? I wanna hear from Stuart. I wanna hear what he thinks. I did not throw one tantrum this entire market.
SpeakerNo, but, like, hold on. You need to give yourself- Hold on. Okay, for listening audience, he- Oh, I'm
Speaker 2playing.
SpeakerWell, uh, yes, but you, like, that speaks into, like, this bigger, like, misnomer of your personality. Uh, now has he thrown some fits in the time pe- Yeah. Has Dwayne? Yes. Have I? Not this angelic angel. I'm sure I have. But, um, no, they, market has become so easy anymore. I think we- we're all three just getting too old to give a damn.
Speaker 3Well, I will argue with you and say no one said I didn't throw a tantrum at the market.
SpeakerDid you not?
Speaker 3Uh, not really. I'm not remembering
Speakertantrums.
Speaker 3No. I've seen- Displeasure- No over a half cooked omelet was about the biggest thing of the, of the week. Yes.
SpeakerLord
Speaker 3have mercy. But I didn't even say anything that morning much. All I really... Much.
SpeakerI mean, the people can't see my rolling eyes.
Speaker 3Okay. All I did was just suggest that we mitigate the issue and not go there the next day. That's really... And the next morning, we had a, a, a lovely breakfast, and my, breakfast was phenomenal actually. So I- I'm glad that, uh, I'm glad it worked out. But anyway, so no fits, have been thrown. So what, what did you like and what did you not like that you found this time, Stuart?
Speaker 2Well, I think our, home decor things and container things I think we did really good on-
Speaker 3Mm-hmm
Speaker 2this time.
Speaker 3Yep.
Speaker 2Which usually containers we struggle with, 'cause either they got too expensive or the company's not there anymore, or we can't find any we like. And I think we did good.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3We found some bargains, but basically, I think-
Speaker 4Mm-hmm
Speaker 3some real bargains, and I loved it. Great porcelain, foot baths at incredible value. Very pleased. And that's... Look, one company can make or break something, right?
SpeakerMm-hmm.
Speaker 3And that's true when it came to the containers, and, uh, they, th- this one company we work with, they, the buyer, the owner of the company, he stepped it up and did a good job.
SpeakerMm-hmm. Uh, for flowers, I think they did create a bunch of new flowers. We did get some new ones with that was, uh, I'm excited for. I thought Raz, which, you know, I don't think it's a very common company that a lot of people know of, I thought that they had some really cute takes on some spring stuff. I think the, Well, it's always been this way. When you go and you, you go look at things, th- there's, you find really good deals or, like, really great price points. Then you find things that are like, okay, normal. And then I think that there's like, what the hell were these bitches thinking? Like, you know, there's that, that really extreme. A lot of times there's a lot of that middle, or okay in the middle, But this time it seemed like there were huge swings from, "Oh, this is cheap," to, "Oh my God, how expensive can this be?"
Speaker 2Right.
SpeakerLike, you even said it yesterday, Dwayne, when we were with Carissa.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm.
SpeakerThat, that one specific company that they... But I felt like, felt like that overall, even, like, when we were, uh, with Amy yesterday with the little pink leopard stuff and all that. It was just, it was like, oh, Lord. Like, it, it... I don't know if they're trying to, like, widen their offerings and price... I don't, I don't know, but.
Speaker 3Yeah. And particularly with, Amy and her company, some of the collection's beautifully done, but it, it would, warrant designer price points, and that's not what that company-
Speaker 4Yeah
Speaker 3represents, right? When you have a- Yeah, they're middle
Speaker 4America
Speaker 3a little piece of art that's $45, not $245. Mm-hmm. You know, it's hard to understand how you're mixing in $150 vase, right? It just was off. Now, generally,, I think that company did very, very well. I think they just keep getting better and better. Probably not their strongest year this year, but pretty good. And the vibe that they have is colorful. It's chinoiserie, pink, green, happy, right?
SpeakerMm-hmm.
Speaker 3Um, that... And, and of course, you know I love that and all over it, and our audience- Lots
Speakerof, lots of happy this year. Lots of happy
Speaker 3lots of happy there. Yeah. Uh-huh. Yeah. You know, across the board, there's a lot of color. Uh, there were years and years and years that was not true. And, uh, how many gray Christmas trees does somebody want, really?
Speaker 2Right.
Speaker 3Uh, but anything that was leopard in every form. That whole what tropical kind of Miami kind of thing kept popping up everywhere. Everywhere. Yeah. And, you know, we b- we sample a little bit of it, but I'm not gonna go too heavy into it 'cause it's not traditional enough for our audience. Uh, but there's, there's fun little things here or there that you can work, work into it. Um, one fun spin was taking, uh Tortoise shell and, you know, chocolatey brown kind of colors and mixing it in with, uh, pastel pinks- Mm-hmm and hot pinks. I thought that was a really fun take on it.
Speaker 2Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3It's almost how you take masculine and feminine and mix it together, and boy, did they pull it off. And I thought, you know, we bought some stuff from that collection, and I thought it was a fun look, an, an unexpected look once it's all said and done.
SpeakerUm, I'm very excited about, we, we did a little social post about it. We're very excited about the ribbon selections that we've got coming for spring. I think we did a really good job with, with East- or with spring and Easter ribbon. Very excited about that. Lots of fun patterns and colors. A lot more summer options.
Speaker 3Yeah, we, we purposely went there with the, the, the effort of let's get ribbon for spring, but also, uh, dra- drag it out s- because we need to think outside the box, and we need, uh, you know, summer door decorations we just never had enough of. And I think like you said, we did a, a good job finding, wreaths and backgrounds and pre-made wreaths that we can add to it and add bows to it. Um, I kind of w- I kept calling it the wrong thing. I keep calling it paisley, but it's... What is it? Like, block prints- Mm-hmm is what you call it. Mm-hmm. And a kind of colonial kind of feel to it.
SpeakerYeah. We, we... And you know what? That's what I was gonna say. We talked about this on the way down, right? Yep. Right. That that was one... And Dwayne was on it, that we saw it. It was there. It was history. It, it was, it was interpretated. Interpretated. It was inter- Interpretated. Interpretated. Wait, hold on. What was your new word yesterday, Dwayne?
Speaker 3Uh, idealate.
SpeakerNo.
Speaker 3I- idealate. Ide-
SpeakerNo. Oh. Ideate it. Ideate it.
Speaker 3Ideate it. Ideate.
SpeakerMy
Speaker 3God. Well, I know another word.
SpeakerI know. I was hoping you'd get it right. Well,
Speaker 3okay. 12 more times, and I'll get it. Ideate.
SpeakerUh, but so, uh, you know, it was definitely present, and, you know, you had said, which I'm sure is where, you know, like, the, the trend came from, but they, they were becoming increasingly popular prints in a lot of, women's dresses, and it was very- Ooh.
Speaker 2And we saw those everywhere.
SpeakerYeah, they were everywhere too. So it was, it's interesting to see how kind of like, you know, like you start wearing it, and then you start putting it in the house, right? Which is- Yeah kind of how it always goes. But there was a lot of fun, uh, ones of, ones of those. We did have a little bit of a hiccup with dinner one night. Um, Dwayne, w- we talked I think on the way down that we were gonna get to go to his, uh, Big Kahuna, this horrible bar food- restaurant that is just a-okay. It's fine. Um, which you may only have two servers for the entire restaurant. Um, we walked down the hill. We were so excited to get there and- it was closed with a sign on the door that they were closed due to mechanical- Due to mechanical issues circumstances or something. So even though Dwayne has waited a couple years, few years to get to go, he was not able to go, but we did make the positive out of the negative. We then ended up at the little, sushi, Chinese, Japanese, uh, 'cause they serve it all. Yeah, all of it. They're like a lot of the, you know... They didn't have hibachi, but they had pad Thai, they had sushi, they had, bibimbap. They had, they had all that, all the ac- different Asian kinds of dishes, called Pacific Rim, that's been there as long as I can remember, and it was very good. It
Speaker 3was good.
SpeakerAnd I think we were all very happy with dinner last night. Yeah. No,
Speaker 3I think that, uh, hiccup turned into a, a very good thing, so I'm not disappointed at all. I probably, if I spoke my truth, uh, I think it probably worked out for the much better personally. I think it
Speakerdid too. So if you're like us and have been going there for four trillion years, and you see this little Pacific Rim that's across the street from Morton's, and you think, "Well, that little hole in the wall, it can't be good," it turns
Speaker 2out- It was good
Speakerit was good.
Speaker 2It was crowded.
SpeakerIt was, yeah. No, they had... We had to sit outside 'cause there were no more reservations. But it was fine. It was all good. We saw, um, uh... What did we not see? What do
Speaker 2you mean?
SpeakerI don't know. I was like- As far as
Speaker 2stuff.
SpeakerUh...
Speaker 3Well, we're stuck on lamps. We couldn't find lamps.
SpeakerLights. Yeah, and, you know, we-
Speaker 3We found some, but not enough, and- And furniture you know, we stood there for 10 minutes r- at the end of the day saying, "Who can we go look at? What can we do?" And we end up leaving because there's nothing to find and nothing to buy that's not astronomical or very, very, very poorly done. Uh, so- Yeah,
Speakeror very modern and not us.
Speaker 3Very modern, right, right. So, um-
SpeakerYeah, it's, um- I
Speaker 3mean, they're out there, but it's a price point that our customers are unwilling to pay for.
SpeakerYeah. Um- We,
Speaker 3I
Speakerthink we talked about this on the way back from market in January. It
Speaker 3w- yes, it's, there's a common theme here, right?
Speaker 2That
Speakerit, you know, at that point we had to go back to a c- a, a company and, you know, they, the, the prices were still higher than what we wanted, but we kind of just felt like we had to do it. Uh, and, and we've, they've done okay in the store. Um, but yeah, and, you know, we've talked to, we talked to, um, our vendors and, you know, they were very happy to let us know that a lot of their products had come down in price because the whole tariff thing, you know, where they, those have loosened. Of course, you know, they're trying to be reapplied in different ways. so the prices of those had, had come down. Of course, now they're facing the shipping and freight costs with it, so they're not so they're not getting a break there now because how much it costs to get- Now the
Speaker 2gas is expensive.
SpeakerYeah, now the gas is expensive, really expensive. And then we talked to a lot of other c- uh, stores or people there that their spring had been really good, and then May and June come and it has just been dead, so they're just really hoping the rest of the year goes... So I guess if you are a store owner and you've, experienced the same thing, don't feel like you're alone, 'cause you're not.
Speaker 2We're still on trend.
SpeakerWe're s- we're still on trend. Um, we saw a lot of people who listen to us.
Speaker 2We did. So-
Speaker 3Yeah, you know, I said, you know, we got our tens and tens of listeners, for the podcast. All 10
Speaker 2of them were at market.
Speaker 3All 10 of them were at market. There you go.
SpeakerUm, yeah, so that was fun. We saw s- a customer that buys from us, who lives in, oh, I think it's Pennsylvania. Was it Pennsylvania?
Speaker 2It was Pennsylvania,
Speakeryeah. She was... She had gone to- She flew in for one day She flew in for one day. Can you imagine? One day. Um- Oh,
Speaker 2she's flying back in those storms today. It's gonna be awful.
SpeakerOh, I thought she was going back last night. I really think she said- Oh, was it? she flew in today and she was flying back home tonight.
Speaker 2Oh, God.
SpeakerSo that was yesterday. Um- I think
Speaker 2we should beat the storm then.
SpeakerAnd then we chatted with some people who, are in different, like, aspects of the industry, and they said that they would love to be on our podcast. So that would be exciting. Also learned something. Michael from Craftex in Texas, in a previous podcast... So this, I'm... I have to share this knowledge, because I feel like this is too much to gatekeep. When we were doing, uh... I mentioned in a podcast previously that we'd used some, um, eucalyptus, and that smell was on my hands and I just could not get it off. And he mentioned that the old florist trick to do it is to rub mayonnaise on your hands.
Speaker 2Not Miracle Whip.
SpeakerNot Miracle Whip. Mayonnaise. Mayonnaise. And rub it all over your hands, and then wash your hands after that, and it gets the smell off. My world is rocked. I love it. So... That was very exciting. And then Dwayne also got accosted by somebody yesterday. I don't remember.
Speaker 3I don't remember this one.
SpeakerI don't... Well, so it was in the hotel before we left, before I could joined you all.
Speaker 3Tell me more, cousin.
SpeakerI remember you all-
Speaker 2It was me.
SpeakerOh, was that you?
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerOh.
Speaker 2I came out of the tower-
SpeakerLord, have
Speaker 2mercy and this lady came up. Okay. "What are you..." Running up, "You're one of the house boys." I said, "Yes, ma'am, I am." She goes, "Where's the other people?" I said, "They're in their own towers." Literally. I said, "We don't sleep together." "They are all in different spots in this hotel." Oh. "We meet down in the lobby." And she said, Do you know if John Mark's here today?" I said, "I don't know. We had time with him
Speakeryesterday." Mercy. Yeah, so we went and saw John Mark. We got some ribbon for him for spring. Um, ooh, we picked up a new candle company.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm.
SpeakerUh, I'm ve- very excited about, but I spent a little bit more money than we meant, I meant to, and I'm gonna take total blame for this. But if you've listened to the podcast and you listened to when we went to Miami and I found this
Speaker 3candle- Do, do, do, do, do. At this point in the podcast, this is an advertisement.
Speaker 2Right.
SpeakerUh, it, when we went to, uh, we were in Miami and stopped by this little s- store, and there was this candle that I just fell in love with. Hunted them down. They were at market. We met the two, guys that are the owners, and we ordered my favorite scent, and then there was another really good one that I think is gonna be really well-loved, and then a couple of fun, um, Christmas scents. Uh, one of them called... Was it Motherfirker? Mother-
Speaker 2Motherfirker.
SpeakerMotherfirker. Mo- Mo- So-
Speaker 2Furker
SpeakerFurker.
Speaker 2Like a tree.
SpeakerLike a fir tree. Fur. So they made a joke. So they ha- they have a, a storefront- Um, as well as, like, producing these candles. And they test the candles in their store to see how, like, th- they sell, the scents and stuff before. And so they were wanting to come up with, a, you know, a pine scent. And you know, it's all out there, and so many people have that. And they were like, "Well, what are we gonna call it?" And they were like, "Well, there's already so many, you know, fucking pine candles out there. Let's just call it Motherfurkin Candle." And they did it as a joke. He said they put 10 on the floor and sold them within the first 10 minutes. And so they knew that it, it was a hit. So, um, so we ordered some of those. So it's just a fun, fun little candle. But they're- And it
Speaker 2smells good.
SpeakerAnd it smells good. So it's, uh, uh... They're... The scents are a little more complex, which I think we, we've been looking for. Uh, because we are three picky bitches when it comes to candles. Dwayne doesn't like anything smoky.
Speaker 2Mm, and I love smoky.
SpeakerWhereas I do, too. Um, for o- overall, we don't really care for floral. I c- I, uh... Overall. Also, like, like- Right there, there, there can be aspects of it. Dwayne, if anything smells the slightest bit, bit soapy or powdery, he's out, which I kind of understand that. Although he says sometimes things smell soapy, and I don't smell it. I don't know. I don't know what that means. But, um, but we're th- Well, so all three of us are very- Well,
Speaker 3I'm happy- hyper, uh, angst against, uh, uh, cilantro, too. You know, that kind of-
SpeakerYeah you
Speaker 3know, people taste soapy. It's like that. I'm somehow very sensitive to that-
SpeakerUh
Speaker 3smell taste.
SpeakerSo we were in one of our showrooms, and our sales rep, was like, "Okay, you need to smell these candles. We've got three new scents over here. You've gotta smell. You're gonna love them. Your customers are gonna love them." We went over, and we smelled. And I bet there were 12? Yeah. Would you say, Dwayne, you were over there? Yep, yep, yep, yep. 12 to 15 candles. Went down the row, smelled every one of them, and they all smelled like trash. No, they didn't smell like trash. They smelled like food or- I don't know. Yeah. They just smelled really common. Flat. Flat and just... I don't know. You know, listen, you know when you go to a candle and they say that it smells like birthday cake? I know I don't need to smell it.
Speaker 4Right.
SpeakerBecause I know it's gonna smell like a really bad, cheap toy for a child that now is supposed to be burning. Like, it's g- it's supposed to smell like a birthday cake, right? It's just, I know it's gonna smell bad. All of these were that. Like, they can call it whatever they wanna call it, it still smells bad. Like, I do not need the smell of a cinnamon roll, but, like, not the real cinnamon roll, like a manufactured bad-
Speaker 3Right
Speakertake on it with- we did, I think we did good with the art. That art will be hitting in September. Is that right? Sometimes we've gone and it's been challenging to find things that feel new, 'cause we've just seen it or it's been out there, we've done things like it. But I liked, I think I liked every piece of art that we ordered. Yeah.
Speaker 2Yeah, I have too actually. Yeah, felt good about it.
SpeakerUh, yeah, there's, you, it's sad to say that sometimes you don't feel like that when you leave, 'cause you wanna be excited about it all. Um, but you have to take in so much,
Speaker 2this was almost like, It's sales rep confession week two.
SpeakerLord-
Speaker 2Oh if that's
Speakernot the gospel.
Speaker 2Oh, you, yes. Every sales rep-
Speaker 3The oddest
Speaker 2week revealed a secret from their past.
SpeakerAnd we will not mention names.
Speaker 2No, just, uh- Gary just like in general conversation.
SpeakerLike,
Speaker 2you know, one just remembers doing cocaine on a Monday and not having another bump till Thursday at work and-
SpeakerNot eating, yeah
Speaker 2not eating.
SpeakerThose were the days that you didn't have to work. Those
Speaker 2were the days.
SpeakerGood, that
Speaker 2you- Do a bump and go to work.
Speaker 3Well, you said you're not gonna mention names. I am.
Speaker 2I didn't know. Yeah, me too. No,
Speaker 3no,
Speakerno,
Speaker 2no.
Speaker 3Larry.
Speaker 2And one of them was-
Speaker 3Larry, the sales rep
Speakerhe, that's not his
Speaker 3name. Okay. Well, see, I've already forgot. I, I was ordering something, and I said, "Larry, Larry, are you listening to me? Pay attention to me." And I said, "I feel like you're on drugs over there." And he said, "Well..." You know, this man is tall and gangly and a wallflower and a quiet man. Very
Speakerfriendly.
Speaker 3Oh, the- Very friendly kindest
Speakerman. And you say gangly. He's not gangly. He's just thin. He's just normal.
Speaker 3Well, I'm, I'm not normal. So anybody that's little thin like that's normal weight is gangly to me, right? He don't look like the typical American anymore that's been eating sugar all day long, like me. Okay? So with that said- I said, "Feel like you're on drugs over there." And he said, "Well..." And he's 60-something, I'd say, right? 65? Yeah.
SpeakerI think
Speaker 3so, yeah. Yeah, 60, 65. Uh, he said, "Well, I was on drugs from 14 to 23." Mm-hmm.
SpeakerYeah, yep.
Speaker 3And then you tell the rest of the story is, of his confessional.
SpeakerI don't remember
Speaker 3what it was. Well, where, where he grew up and, uh, he-
SpeakerI don't, I don't think I remember this I don't remember any of this.
Speaker 3Oh, well, okay. You tell. So he grew up in New Orleans, uh- Oh, yeah and that was just part of his world. Uh, and you know, that w- that he was... So long story on that one is I said to him, "Well, I think you've been on drugs, off drugs for a while, but I still think it's in your system, so you need to pay attention today, okay?" And that was it. And he's so nice. He is.
Speaker 2Yes,
Speakerhe is.
Speaker 2And then we found out another one was probably the mule selling it all. Yeah.
SpeakerOh, yeah. Well, he was the kingpin. He was probably- Yes was the bar of his senior high school- as a senior. And I
Speaker 3think that's, quote, what he said.
SpeakerYeah, he said- Yeah he, he was the El Chapo of, uh... Uh-huh, 'cause I think he... Yeah, uh-huh. Yeah. Uh, now it was of, I believe, the marijuana, if I had to, if I had to guess, in the Georgias, uh, Tennessee, wherever he's from. Uh, but yeah. And then we had another interesting story with, with another-
Speaker 3Which was the, the, but most bizarre of them all
Speakerthe, and we'll, we're, we'll save you the, the, the gist of it, but she basically, they interacted with some new customers that they'd never met at another market. Um, and- the woman, there were two women, and one was, you know, tall and beautiful and, Cindy Crawford-esque, and then the other one was not.
Speaker 2Short and dumpy.
SpeakerShort and frumpy, from what I understand. And-
Speaker 2Who was also a medium
Speakerwho was also a medium, that's right. She also had psychic abilities. Mm-hmm. And were very woo-woo. And- evidently there were no band, boundaries there, and so, and when they finished with them, they, she, she was like, "You know," she goes, "I know some days are hard." She goes, "I'm gonna give you something." She's like, "Some days, I know people are mean, and they just treat you like a dick. They're just mean and hateful, and it's just hard." She's like, "So I'm gonna give you something, and so when you're having one of those down days, I just, I, you use this on that down day." Well, she's telling the story. And so because of the rest of the stories we've heard on this- Yeah I'm assuming she handed her a joint, a packet of molly- Probably gummies, something like something, right? So she has her husband go get her wallet, and so I'm like, Lord, she has brought the drug paraphernalia into the market. And so she gets in her bag. It's in her wallet. She gets it out, and she's telling us the story, and she's holding it really close in her hand, and she's talking to Dwayne. She's like, "Now I'm gonna put it in your hand. Don't look at it yet, but I'm gonna give it to you." She's like, "Now when you have a bad day, I want you to, to think about these." And so she just puts it in his hand, and then he opens it up.
Speaker 2Turn it over. It's
Speakera dick- And it's, and it's a little dickasaurus. It's, it's a, it's a little plastic shape of a penis-
Speaker 2With legs and a tail
Speakerwith legs, with a dinosaur tail on the end of it, and it's called a dickasaurus. Evidently she gave her two of them.
Speaker 2And a green one and a white.
SpeakerSo-
Speaker 3Didn't see that coming.
SpeakerI didn't either, so, but I do love this little idea of you just dropping a little ray of sunshine to anybody. So I do think it takes a specific kind of person to spread dickasaurauses around, but-
Speaker 2Well, it does.
SpeakerBut, you know, she is a medium, so maybe she tapped into something I don't understand. I don't know.
Speaker 2Well, you know, the person telling us did smile the whole time.
SpeakerShe
Speaker 2did. So-
SpeakerIt did bring her joy.
Speaker 2It did. It worked.
SpeakerSo overall, very good market. Excited. New things are coming. Trying to get ready to end. And as soon as we get back, we're back to the grind. I hope that you're having a wonderful day, and if not, I just want you to either think about a bump of cocaine, not doing it, but think about it- or a little dickasaurus. And that'll get you some joy to get you through your day. All right, we'll be back next week.
Speaker 4All right. Bye. Bye.
