Why Sensitive People Feel Exhausted All The Time
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Have you spent years wishing you could just feel normal? I spent a long time there too. And I want to tell you what that wish actually costs you.
Sensitive bodies aren't broken. They're running in the wrong mode. The exhaustion you feel isn't from feeling too much. It's from the constant labor of trying to feel less. Suppression is not rest. It's twice the work with no completion point, because the inputs don't stop coming.
In this episode, I'm talking about what actually happens when sensitive people stop fighting their own signal and start leading with it. Faster decisions. Calmer bodies. Relationships that stop draining you. And a sense of self that no longer treats your sensitivity as evidence that something is wrong with you.
That shift is irreversible. Once you've lived on the other side of it, you can't go back.
This episode is also your companion piece for the April 17th ceremony, where we're doing this work together live. If something in this episode is calling you, the link to register is below.
In this episode:
- Why "I just want to feel normal" is one of the most expensive things a sensitive person can say
- What suppression actually does to a sensitive nervous system (it's not what you think)
- What sovereignty really means for sensitive bodies (not walls, not immunity, something far more useful)
- What changes when you stop overriding your own signal
- Why your intuitive accuracy is directly tied to how much you fight yourself

What if the thing you've been trying to get rid of for years is your body's greatest advantage? What if wanting to be normal has been the most expensive pursuit you've ever endeavored? Today we're talking about what happens when sensitive people stop suppressing and start leading with the signals. And I promise you, it does not. look like what you've been afraid of. Welcome back to the Cosmic Body Shenanigans podcast. I'm your host Amanda Smith, former aerospace engineer turned grounded, mystic, nervous system translator for sensitive bodies. We are leading into the April 17th ceremony. And for those of you joining us live, I am excited for this one. This episode is your companion piece for the ceremony. For everyone else not joining us, this one stands on its own also. So let's go. I just want to feel normal. I want to spend a minute with this sentence because I think it's one of the most misunderstood things that sensitive people say about their own experience. And it's frustrating to hear them continue to say it because I know what it looks like on the other side. Normal in this context always seems to mean I want to stop feeling so much so fast with so little warning. and so much intensity. I understand that completely. I've lived that wish for many years and I am on the other side of it. It's exhausting to feel everything the way sensitive bodies do. But here's what normal actually costs you. Normal means dampened signal. It means receiving information at standard resolution. when your system was built for high definition. It means operating a precision instrument in economy mode indefinitely. The exhaustion you feel from sensitivity is not from feeling so much, feeling too much. It's from the constant effort at trying to feel less. Suppression is not rest. I want to say that very clearly. When you suppress a sensitive nervous system, you're not giving it a break. You're asking to generate a signal and then override that signal simultaneously. That's twice the work. And it's work that has no completion point because the inputs don't stop coming. Long-term suppression creates a kind of perpetual internal civil war. The body keeps sending the signal, the mind keeps trying to shut it down. And the friction of the war is expensive in every way you can measure. Energy, physical health, clarity, decision-making, relational capacity, and your ability to trust your own perception. This is why so many sensitive people describe a feeling of being simultaneously wired and exhausted. They're not overloaded from feeling. They're exhausted from fighting their own system. Here's the reframe I want you to have today. Your sensitivity is not static. It's not just noise in the background. It's not a problem to be managed. It's directional information about who you are and what you're built for. Sensitive bodies register things early before the facts arrive. before the test results come back, before the situation escalates. It knows. That knowing when you have language for it and a system for reading it is not a liability. It's an extraordinary operational advantage. The people who have stopped fighting their sensitive bodies and started decoding it, tell me consistently their intuitive accuracy goes through the roof. Not because they developed a new ability, because they stopped overriding the one they already had. m Could you imagine your intuition, accuracy going through the roof? All right. The ceremony on April 17th, 5 p.m. Mountain Time, which is my time, 4 p.m. Pacific Time, 7 p.m. Eastern Time. This is what we're gonna be doing together. If you haven't joined yet and something about this podcast is calling you to do so, the link's in the show notes. Please go find it. Registration's open. until the morning of on April 17th. Come be a part of it. Okay, I want to define sovereignty. I want to define it in a way that I mean it because it gets used in spiritual circles in ways that can feel vague and odd. When I say sovereignty, this is what I mean. Knowing your own signal well enough. that you can't be overridden. Not that you become immune to input. Sensitive bodies will always be receiving inputs. Sovereignty is it's not about building walls. It's about having such a clear understanding of your own signal that when something else lands in your field, you can distinguish it for yourself. This is one of the biggest things that I notice my clients. tell me is I can't tell what's mine and what's coming from outside of me and what's everybody else's. The feeling is mine. The feeling is not mine. This response is proportionate to what I'm actually experiencing. That response is a carry from something that happened three days ago, plus a barometric pressure drop, plus an electromagnetic spike, plus this is what I want you to be able to say. That's the level of discernment. That's not fragility. It's precision and it fundamentally changes how you move through the world. Could you imagine? I want to tell you what I actually see happen when sensitive people stop trying to be less sensitive. Their decision making gets faster. Not because they feel less, but because they trust the signal they're receiving instead of second guessing it for days. Their relationships shift. They become less reactive because they can distinguish their own states from other people's states. They stop absorbing what's not theirs to carry. Their bodies calm down. This one surprises people, but when you stop fighting your own nervous system, the nervous system no longer needs to escalate to get your attention. and their sense of self changes. This is the one that takes the longest, but matters the most. They stop experiencing their sensitivity as evidence that something's wrong with them. And they start experiencing it as information about who they actually are. That shift is irreversible. Once you've lived on the other side of it, you can't go back to thinking your sensitivity is a problem. That's the beauty. If you've signed up for the April 17th ceremony, welcome. You're exactly where you're supposed to be. If you're listening to this before you still have time to sign up. If it's calling to you. And if you're listening to this after April 17th, I want you to know that this work is always available to you. The ceremony was a doorway, is a doorway. The podcast is another, the quiz, the body scan, the ongoing work that you could do with me as a VIP client, they're all pathways into the same understanding. You're not too sensitive. You're not too much. You're a precision instrument that has been running in the wrong mode. You are allowed to start running in the right one. Subscribe wherever you listen. If you're watching on YouTube, subscribe and hit the bell so you get notified when I launch my episodes, which is usually every Monday now. And if you know someone who thinks they're too much because they're too sensitive, Please share this with them, it's going to be an eye-opening moment. Stay curious, stay oriented, move with what's real, and trust your sensitive body. It knows.
