Australia often travels in stereotype form — beaches, barbecues, and wildlife.

But living in the United States has shown me that many of the things that genuinely define Australian life rarely make it into the conversation.

In this episode, I look at nine everyday Australian habits and cultural details that tend to surprise Americans — not because they’re dramatic, but because they’re quietly different.

We’ll explore:

• The gap between myth and lived reality
 • Social habits that don’t translate neatly
 • Food, landscape, and lifestyle assumptions
 • And the small behaviours that reveal deeper cultural values

Having called both Australia and America home, I’ve come to appreciate how easily a country gets reduced to shorthand.

This is a chance to step past the clichés and look at the details that make Australia feel familiar to those who grew up there — and unexpected to those who didn’t.
