Election Results 2024
Welcome to pulse check, Wisconsin.
This is Dr. Ford. And I want us to do a. Special here for the most recent elections. As you guys know, our last series was based on the. The politics of public health. And then we discussed a couple of topics. Picks that affect your health care here in the state of Wisconsin and nationwide. What we saw was. An episode on gun control. We did a. Reproductive rights episode. As well as a Badger care expanse. Spansion episode to encompass all the things that are affecting health. Health of individuals throughout the state of Wisconsin. No. I'll give this disclaimer. Flavor. The point of this podcast was to give you. Objective data. In which you can take with you. In your day-to-day you can take with you to the ERs, to your primary care. Doctors to your family, friends, and also take the polls when you. Decide on who you want to vote for and who. Meshes with your ideology. Of where you think. Public health should be. And. Your access. Yes to healthcare. Now I will say. It's very intentional that I don't advocate for any individual candidate. On this platform both locally, as well as nationally. But what I do is I make it a point to demonstrate. Straight my advocacy for particular policy. As you've heard in some of the most recent. Episodes. My position based on the affordability. The ability of healthcare, the availability. Of healthcare. Having. Access to primary care doctors and for women to make. Their own reproductive decisions. Are paramount. Amount in the health and safety of our patients. And a lot of that is not my subjectivity to the situation is based on data. These are policy statements that come from. Governing bodies. These of medicine. Throughout the country. Now as a provider at the beginning and throughout. The entirety of the pandemic. What I will say is. Is. During that timeframe, things were tough. We didn't have the medication. We need it. We didn't have the equipment we needed. We didn't know the disease process that we were fighting. And we got a lot of pushback from a federal as well as a. State level in terms of even adopting. Some of the science, we were presenting as truth. And a lot of that has to do with the fact that politics and healthcare. They're very closely. Connect it. Unfortunately. Really in some cases, what you'll have. Are some members of an administration. Who feel a certain way. About what should be available. Saleable who should receive health care. And what decisions they get to make versus. What decisions citizens. Good to me. No, I'm sure all of, you know, at this point, This same. Administration that was in control. At the time at the beginning of the pandemic. Is now the same administration. That will be coming in. In January. And as a provider. as well as an advocate for health care it's something that is troubling and it's something. That is concerning. When that administration. Has already established how they feel about evidence-based medicine. And how they feel about the practice of medicine and the practice. Of public policy initiation and implementation. Well, you have characters in your cabinet. Like a Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Who is stating that he wants to get rid. Did have some vaccines or that he doesn't believe in fluoride. I ride in the water because it does X, Y, and Z that he pulled up from. Some, some arbitrary article online, those things. Are going to affect your public health in the long run. Those things are going to. Prevent purposeful and intentional. Healthcare legislation to go through. At the federal and at the state levels. This is going to affect the affordability of medications potentially as again. Again, through the inflation reduction act that was implemented. Cemented by the current administration. We were set to see a. A reduction in healthcare costs and medication capping for. For our seniors in January of 2025. Elections have consequences. And we will see in. In the future. What those consequences will be. With the new administration no, I'll say all that to. I say this, I don't want to get you down to the dumps. And again, We don't know where we're going to end up with this current administration. However, there are two things I want to point out first off. Here in the. State of Wisconsin through the implementation of fair maps. We had for the very first time in about 12 years. Competitive race. Races. We have seen. Through that competition. At the local level. More representatives who are in favor. Favor. Of evidence-based medicine and are in favor. Of improving the public. Public health. Assume positions of power. That in the state of Wisconsin is going to be. Paramount. When we talk about some of the things that we discussed. In the last three episodes. When we talk about creating safe gun laws for. For our patients and for our communities, when we talk about. Maintaining. Reproductive freedoms for my patients and for for women. And throughout the state of Wisconsin. When you talk about. Expanding Badger care so that folks can have. Access to primary health care. That was the power of your vote. That is. Is how we. Make Wisconsin. And safer. And how to make Wisconsin citizens healthier now the second part is. This. Again, the purpose of this podcast was. Was to advocate for you. I will not stop advocating. for you. Our listeners for all my patients and. For my communities. This is just the beginning. And we at. At Polshek Wisconsin are going to continue to push forward. We're going to continue to provide. And you that same data. As we did before. We're going to continue to advocate. Kate for policies that we know work in other states and that we know work. Work in other countries as well. We're going to continue to push forward. Word to make healthcare accessible. To make medications accessible. And to provide your interviews with experts who can speak to that FAC. In a way that is tangible and in a way that is factual. That is the only way that we move forward. As. As a state. And that is the only way that we move forward as a country. That's how we get healthier. That's how we make sure that no one is left behind. And So regardless of. How. Anyone feels about this most recent election. If. You're really happy if you really sat. We are going to continue to push forward. And we are going to continue to take care of one another. And I will be here. To help you through. That process. So all my listeners feel free to reach out. If you have any questions. If you have any concerns or if you just want to vent. as always take care of yourselves, take care of each other. And if you need me. Come and see me.
