So, man, as we take a moment to let it all soak in and sink in that we are the champions, we got this thing done in an amazing fashion, man. I said on the last episode and took time off to let the finals play around, play out, so excuse me, because I didn't want to come back to you until I knew we was the NBA champs. I felt it in my spirit, man. It was all yeah. We got this thing done. We swept out them San Antonio boys 4-1. Four games, 2-1. I mean what can you say? I predicted six. I said I wouldn't be surprised if it happened in five, and it did happen in five. And the way it happened was very dramatic. Pulling off one of the best comebacks in game four in NBA history, down 29 points. A lot of y'all went to sleep. I didn't. The true fans, the ones that stick with A team to the end, we stuck it out. And then we cleaned up in San Antonio on the road, which I'm actually happy they did, because you know, we didn't want them to deal with the pressure. It would have been nice if we closed the series in New York, but fuck it. We're gonna party anyway. Just the same way we did on the road, as the same way we did when it was at home. We just very excited to see our next bring home the championship. So shout out to Jalen Brunson, the man, the myth, the New York legend now, finals MVP. Shout out to Big Cat, Bodega Cat. You know, we got a love-hate relationship with cat. It's alright, you're a championship now, my brother. Shout out to Mikkel Bridges, love hate relationship with Mikkel a little bit, but he's a champion now. Shout out to Josh Hart, part of the city, part of the team. He's a champion now, man. Shout out to all the boys on the roster, shout out to those I didn't name, you know, up and down the list. Shout out to Mike Brown for bringing home the championship to New York. Listen, man, we we I I will say this. If you are someone who can dislike this team that went out there and got it done, there may be something wrong with you. And I'm not saying dislike the team from a from a tactical or skill standpoint or just, you know, the collective of players and what they're able to do on the basketball tour court. I'm really just talking about the the the heart that the team goes out there and you know plays the game with. I'm talking about the stick toitiveness that they go out there and play the game with. We talk about the never give up mentality that the team goes out there and plays with, and that shit was on full display throughout the playoffs. These boys lost three games out of the playoffs. I think the the the average uh not the average, excuse me, the the plus-minus margin of victory was like 280-something points. Smacking shit all up and down the playoffs. The next closest team was the Golden State Warriors, the 17 Warriors with KD, the best team maybe collectively in NBA history, and we we surpassed them as far as point differential between us and our opponents throughout the playoffs, man. Like, what you want to say about these boys, man? They proved everybody wrong, and again, in an underdog fashion, which means even more to me. And I think seeing this championship play out the way it has, even more so now in a social media era, has let me know that people don't really dislike the Knicks as far as a collective attention. They don't really dislike the players. They, you know, they say good things about Jalen, they say good things about the Villanova boys, like they they don't really shit on the players. I think people just have a thing against New York for some reason. You know, and as someone who's a New York native, born, raised there, and not living there currently, but from from my perspective, it's always in you is it's in my heart, is just how I give it up, is how I carry it, wherever the fuck I go. What I realize is that people don't really dislike the Knicks, they dislike the Knicks supporters, and sometimes the Knicks get that much flack just because we support the team so heavily. And that ain't necessarily fair to the actual ball players. But us as a fan group, like sooner or later the support that we went out there and put for a ball club on the team was gonna come back in a championship, and I love that it's happening right now, and I love that we get to, you know, really just gask in the moment, man. But just wanted to touch on how. We got this championship done really quick and just let people know that you know this team is a is this team embodies a lot of things that human beings uh champion and human beings can get behind, you know. There's our captain who's just a workhorse and somebody who believes in the work and you know holds true to the Mamba mentality and all that that people say he's the closest thing to Kobe since Kobe, etc. etc. All that I ain't making those comparisons. But the mentality of someone who can just work himself literally from a position to where nobody's really looking at him as that, to be that, the 1A, the big dog, one of the smallest guards to get it done since Stephen Curry, since Isaiah Thomas to actually bring home the championship, for those people to look at that roster and see that we don't have a bunch of like talent, I would say. You know, like the Knicks roster is not talented up and down the board. Knicks roster is just solid up and down the board to the point where even if our big dog or you know 1A, Jalen Brunson isn't getting it done, we get contributions all up and down the board. Like OG Ananobi, bro, might be one of the best 3D guys you'll see, maybe in league history, the way he's come out there and played this postseason, this last series throughout the playoffs, outside of the hamstring injury, which you know set us back a little bit. But either way, like the players we have up and down this roster aren't gonna jump out the page on you as like, you know, Hall of Famers. I don't know how many Hall of Famers from this roster we're gonna see. Maybe one. Jalen Brunson's a shoe-in, I think, you know, at this point, just because of everything he's done even before his NBA career. But outside of that, we don't have a bunch of guys that are looked at as like, yo, they them guys and they're gonna be one of them guys, perennial all-stars, etc. in the league. We have a collective of players that literally go out there and find a way to win games. And I think that is why New Yorkers connect with the the team that much, is just because we are hustlers, like our spirit just breeds hustler. Like the city just kind of has that mentality, and a team, you know, kind of has that mentality too. And for as as big of a city as New York is, and you know, as many people as live there, we always like to look at ourselves as underdogs in a lot of situations, uh, just because it's kind of like a motivating factor for us, and this team literally embodies that. So, you know, whether or not we have that much talent, I think the New Yorkers have jumped behind this team just because of the level of us that we see in them, you know, and it's literally played out like that the whole playoffs. Like, you know, we've had moments where we was riding high, punching shit, beating motherfuckers by 30, 40. We also had games now in the finals where we had to go out there and prove that we can win close games and show that we can come back and fight from being down to end up victorious on the top. And I love that the playoffs went a little bit of both ways for us, you know. Wash up the Eastern Conference. I know everybody's saying it's not a good conference, et cetera, et cetera. Like I said, refer back to the last episode. You play who you play. We don't get to control that. So at the same time, when we go out there and we dominate them, we're doing what we're supposed to do, to the point where people said, oh, when you get to the finals, you're gonna just have to play real competition and the San Antonio Spurs or da da da da, whatever. Fuck them, Spurs. Literally, literally fuck them. Because 4-1 is a gentleman's sweep, and I know the series looked a lot closer than it was, but as far as winning games, we still went out there and got it done at a high clip to the point where we ain't even sweat the series out in six or seven games. We got it done in five. Five against the alien, against the new young boys that everybody's saying is gonna be the next dynasty, etc. etc. etc. Put them kids to bed. Literally, put them to bed. Like, what can you say about this ball club at this point that is negative? Like, you just gotta give it up. Just got to give it up. And we see how the next year's goal coming forward, and we ain't gonna get into all that. What's gonna happen with the roster? Yes, we got some priorities to take care of as far as re-signing people, trying to hold the roster intact. And even as the rest of the East comes back, I think the East is gonna get a little bit better. We had a lot of injuries out there last season. Jason Tatum came back in the end of the year. He wasn't fully right, but by the time he got to the playoffs, Tyrese Halliburton has been out. You know, just injuries up and down a little bit in the East has kind of make the conference feel quote unquote weaker. But I still think we're gonna be top of the tops in the conference next year. Who cares what seed we get? But at right now, we're not talking about that, man. Let's enjoy and bask in the moment and understand that the championship is back with the Knicks. I will be at the parade on Thursday. I'm telling you, don't talk to me, don't check for me. Just know I'm out there mobbing with the rest of the gang. We're gonna have a good time. We're gonna party this thing up and enjoy the rest of the summer. And I'm hoping it leads to a very, you know, unified and productive summer for the city of New York. You know, not that I live there, not that I'm there every single day, but I'm there often enough that I want to see the city in a good light, in a good space, man. And this might even lead to the to the next coming season. Don't let the Yankees get hot headed to October. Don't let the Giants come out and start punching shit and smashing teams headed into the next season of the NFL. Like we might kind of tip the ties to where New York really is relevant in a lot of different, you know, sports across the board. The Liberty just won recently. So it's not like you know, New York is litty right now, man. It's just good to see, and I'm happy about it. So I can only gush about it so much. We're gonna put that to bed and change things to the other side where we talk about the San Antonio Spurs. Because watching this series play out the way it has has left me with a lot of thoughts and you know, you know, made me look inwards to what I've liked about the Spurs for so long and you know, where I think the Spurs at. Like for anybody that really knows me, the Spurs are my second favorite organization in the NBA. So the last time we played the finals, we ended up playing the Spurs, ended up losing in five. You know, we won in five now, so we turned the tables. But Tim Duncan, David Robinson, a little bit of a beat up next roster with Patrick Ewan being out. And again, my favorite team, refer to the last episode, the team that got me started and wanting to play basketball for real was the New York Knicks of that year. Alan Houston, Latrell, Screwell, etc. etc. We ain't gonna go back to into that too much, but um, I digress to say um that with the Knicks playing the San Antonio Spurs. For me, it was like okay, full circle, but also a chance to see two of my favorite organizations, one and Knicks, because I am a Knicks fan, and then you know, the San Antonio Spurs for everything I just said, Duke It One and it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth for the Spurs organization. And, you know, the organization from top to bottom historically has been very classy. You know, Greg Pakovish is my you know favorite NBA coach of all time, and who I think is the best NBA coach of all time, just for everything he's done for his own team, but a lot of players around the league, like Pop's reputation is like, you know, that's the gold standard for me as far as coaches in the NBA. Phil Jackson, cool, you know, other player people that won a lot, Steve Kerr, cool, whatever. But I think Pop is the Pop is the pinnacle, you know. And I always believed the way the San Antonio Spurs were, you know, operated as a as an organization and just how they treated people, how they treated their players, plus the the mentality they had, you know, the the you're gonna work hard here. Like we're not giving, you know, we're not skipping steps, we're not half-assing it, we're gonna go out there and we're gonna work, you know, to the point where they put themselves in that, like winning five championships in a time that I was alive. So for me, like seeing that, as well as the Lakers, those two organizations were, you know, the tops for me. But the San Antonio Spurs, I always loved a lot, you know. But right now, the light on San Antonio ain't really looking too good, man. And I think it kind of starts with the head of the snake, as I just mentioned prior, like Wemby. Like you are the franchise player, you are potentially the face of the league. You were this, you were that, like, you know, and not to say that you're not gonna have a great future in the NBA, but I think right now it is time to kind of call Wemby to the carpet in a couple different ways, just because for him to be that guy, he didn't really put on in that way. And win, lose, a draw, I'm not really talking about who won the series. I'm talking about how things kind of played out, you know. And number one thing I would say is the respect for the San Antonio, well, the respect of the San Antonio Spurs towards the New York Knicks wasn't really it this year for me. And I saw that shit, and I it really kind of for me led to the Knicks winning even more, if I'm just being honest. Because I don't really feel like the Spurs went into the series respecting the Knicks, even though they lost to them more than they beat them recently. I don't really feel like the Spurs went into the series looking at the Knicks as somebody that they had to really focus on to get past to win a championships. I just believe that they they just shitted on them the whole time and then it came back to bite them in the ass, and now they got a bunch of you know, egg on their face, pun intended, as I said before. But it goes down to things like the the music that it was playing in San Antonio, the little cartoon music when they when it was announced to the Knicks. Like you, if you're a classy organization and if you're a classy bunch who actually respects the people that you're playing against, you don't do that. It goes to how the players handle things in the post-game, you know, talking about we the better team, we the better team, we the better team. And you can believe that, like, sure. As a basketball team, as a basketball player, you're supposed to believe that you are the best at whatever you're you know set out there to do. I'm the best scorer, I'm the best defender, we have better rebounders, we just are a better collective, and you should kind of operate in that way in-house, you know. And shouts to Tom Crean, one of the people that you know put a lot into me from a basketball perspective. We talked about this many times on this podcast. But I remember in Marquette when I was there, and all my other teammates and all that can attest, we were very specific about things we would say in the media about our opponent, just because Tom Cree made it a standard that we do not give other teams what he calls bulletin board material. And that uh that would constitute anything that you say in public or anything on video interviews, et cetera, et cetera, the other team can take and use as motivation to say, oh shit, we in their ass now, you know, and I think that the Spurs just gave the Knicks a bunch of bulletin board material the whole time leading up to playing the Knicks and the whole time uh while playing the Knicks, and it kind of backfired for them. And I don't think a well-led, I don't think a you know, organization that has again the respect that I keep going back for uh to the other team goes out there and they they do that, you know, because I think they put themselves in a position too much to have to like answer to some of the things that they were saying and going on. And Wemby yourself, like, bro, I'm not gonna shit on the kid because he's 22 years old. I'm not gonna shit on the man, excuse me, because he's 22 years old. I've been 22 years old in my life. But for you to want to be this in the league, that guy in the league, you got a lot to learn, bro. And especially as someone who's a foreign player coming over here into the United States to try to dominate the NBA, you got a lot to learn about the way shit gets done, bro, on that level. And I can only speak to what I know of that level, not actually being in it myself, or being around people who have been in it, and then my deeper knowledge of the game of basketball in general. Like, bro, there's a lot of things that you don't possess now, and be confident, be some level of arrogant, because I know you have to be to be a you know a top-level guy in the first place, but bro, you don't got enough respect for the game for me, bro. Like, and all that shit you're doing with the monks, all that shit that you like, you know, putting yourself on as like the the intellectual one, the guy who's emotionally intelligent. We saw a lot of that shit crumble in the playoffs, man, and it kind of looks at you, puts you in a different light now, as well as just some of the things in the basketball court, because I do not believe, and a lot of people say this, of course, but you're not a finished product enough to be popping shit in that way on the path to getting your ass kicked 4-1, bro. You know, we could talk about the flagrant fouls and the dirty plays that I saw all playoffs. And me, I got a thing for playing players who play hard and you know, standing behind those kind of guys, but for me, there's a borderline, like there's a line that when you cross where things get go from playing hard to playing dirty. And I saw a lot of that shit with Wenby. I'm not really feeling it. I'm not really feeling it, you know. On top of the fact that on the offensive side, you're not as dominant as you want to put on to be, you know, and it's not to say that you can't get there. It's not to say that, bro, you are very tall, you're getting stronger. So, you know, hopefully if you stay in the weight room, stay doing the things on the strength and conditioning side outside of your sport, that'll put you in a better position going forward. But bro, you're not like that right now. And it showed, you know, missing free throws at the at the time of the game when you need the most, not really dominating fourth quarters when your team needs you the most. You know, for me, it's just like you got some steps to, you know, to you got some steps to take in your future. And I think that this would be the thing to help you to learn how to take those steps. If you you're gonna embrace it as you say you are in the post in the post-game after the last last game, excuse me. I think that you know, this could be a learning moment, bro. And for real, for real, the one of the biggest things that upsets me about what Wemby did out there was walking off the court without shaking anybody's hands. And I know it is not a requirement, it is not a rule, but niggas don't forget that shit, bro. They don't, you know, it goes to just sore loser, it just goes to arrogant little prick, like it goes to all those kind of things to where people will look at you differently the way you came out there. And I'm a person that's very confident, I'm a person that's very competitive, but I'm also a person that knows when the better man, you know, got the one up on me, and I salute it, even if I pop my shit on the way to losing to all that. Like, there's just a respect for the game that I think that you have that people don't forget, you know. And on top of that, going back to the whole Knicks thing, like you might have been the reason that Jalen Brunson went off in that last game, bro, from the time that he scored 61 on your court and had a career high, and then you threw the ball in the freaking stands. Like, people don't forget that kind of stuff, bro. So all the little things like here and tit for tat things that get added up collectively just kind of show Wemby in a different light right now. And one of the players that I thought was very bright and up and coming, and he still is, but to put yourself in this position now, you got a bigger target on your back headed into next season. I know it's hard to say that as a team who didn't win the championship because I know the Knicks are gonna get everybody's best shot next year. But you yourself, bro, as the guy who's kind of like stake your claim as like, I'm the best player in the league now. Like, you got a lot to back up, bro. So if you're gonna pop that shit, you gotta walk it, talk it, and be it in the moments where it's gonna matter most to not put a chink in your arm. And again, bro, respect the game. Like, respect the game. There's been a lot of players that came before you, done a lot of great things in the league. There's a lot of players around you now currently that are doing great things in the league, and you just looking at them and pissing on them like you're the best thing, smoking just because you're 7'5 and you don't gotta jump the dunk and all that. Like, bro, nobody give a fuck about that shit, bro. Work on your game, come back, get better. But the way you went out there, I think you you you did bad this last series, man. You did bad. Bunch of collapses, bunch of weak moments at the at the wrong time. So you gotta, you know, retool, maybe go back to the monks and meditate all summer. But if you're gonna do it, bro, make it real and not make something that looks performative when you're not showing the the actual lessons and the things that they tried to teach you over there when it's time to in heated battles and heated situations to where you know your character really comes out. So not to pile it on the kid too much, man. Again, he got a bright future. He does. And for me, even more than Wemby, I think that the roster around him has a bright future. Stefan Castle, if he get a jumper, shit might be over. Harper, I think Harper is gonna be a lot more than people realize in the next coming years. So, like the way that kid handled himself in high pressure situations in the playoff, he got a bright, bright future ahead of him. And I'm I'm really think those three collect though collectively can put the Spurs back on top at some point. But again, they got a lot to learn. You know, they got a lot to learn. And I'm here for it. We're gonna see. We're gonna see. Young team got a lot of time ahead of you. Let's work hard this summer, let's come back out there. But right now, again, it's the Knicks time, and we're just gonna look at it as that and celebrate that, you know. But outside of that, man, we ain't really had too much to talk about today.
