In this episode, D Burke checks in on his 40th birthday to discuss his milestone birthday. He shares his perspective on making it to this point in his life as well as looks ahead at what may be to come.
We in the house with one thing and one thing I wanted to make sure we can be a little bit more birthday none of the last we here. We here to make this thing happen. Forty years old. You know, we gotta take this thing off with the birthday. We're gonna have a birthday mix today. We're in a different kind of mood with this one. You know, we gotta come along with me. Ain't gonna be too much on the big, big energy side, a little bit, you know how to do when I get to get the music rocking blah blah blah. We're definitely in a different way for this one, you know. Forty years old comes with a different perspective in life. You know, 40 years old comes with a different speed in life. Um today we just gonna smooth this thing out, man. A couple of my favorites, you know, from some of my time of listening to music, especially after the 2010 millennial music. Why, you know, I I dubbed myself with that, but uh but yeah, we got some good ones to spend just in a birthday vibe, man. So come along with me, man. Thank you for joining me um as releasing this podcast. It'll be past my birthday, but you know, we will do the stretch it out thing. But either way, checking in for the D Bird 3P spicy birthday next D-Birth birthday, man. Might be more than three today. You know, we see what the vibe is as we uh as we kick this thing off. But horse, air horn. Wake that ass up. Come along with me as we smooth this thing out. Let's get it one time. It's a different life. When you hit the fourth decade of it, I'm middle-aged, my bones is old.
SPEAKER_10Two of the closest niggas dead for me. We're gonna slow this thing down today. Show some appreciation. I'm scared of the celebration of life though I ain't never celebration of life. Everything I've been through, we've been through Leo season, rock with you more. Let's go. I'm gonna learn no lesson. Ain't no actors here. I told Bully, I wish this dad's one top of Davies. One of my favorite Davies. Move this thing out on y'all one time, stay with me. Way before Rupert. Still turning shit up to ignorant volume. Wherever you at, wherever you watch it from, wherever you listen from. Rock with your boy. They move, bitch, long before I heard a ludicrous. I watched it with my own eyes. Dirty kitchen for phone fries. High G's if ain't nothing open. Just make sure they're thankful for them sticking cheese. I love the hood, I hate to leave. How the fuck was we trappin' outside when it was eight degrees? I still have a hard time tryna understand. Gave niggas the reason plus the truth. I could relate the beams. Free me. I'm just tryna chase the dream. They rather us upstate and greens. You never had to chase a fiend. Pass them off a grim, and then they rain before they paid you. Plus, you got to connect, and let you cross the glow.
SPEAKER_01You know what I like to say.
SPEAKER_10Appreciate I'm standing. Appreciate the journey. Appreciate every million for she three gets.
SPEAKER_02One time Marsha talked all. One hand in the air.
SPEAKER_01God is good.
SPEAKER_02Stoop. Another year of life, another decade in the books.
SPEAKER_01D birth drops 40 on y'all niggas. Just grateful.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. I'm grateful. Thank you, Lord. I'm grateful.
SPEAKER_03One time for the big man upstairs. Putting air in my lungs. Putting ideas in my mind. Putting purpose in my body to go out there and achieve.
unknownThank you.
SPEAKER_09I'm right.
SPEAKER_03Just like that, man. We keep this three-piece spicy rolling. Keep this thing smooth. Keep this thing in a different vibe. Yeah. So again, wherever you at, wherever you're watching from, wherever you're listening from, come along with your boy. Send a real nigga a cash app.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Let's go. She got a thing for Chanel vintage that dropped before she can speak English. Do you love me and love seeking attention? I mean, which one is it? You keep calling me a twin, but twins ain't this different. Mentally, I'm already on next year. That's some 2020 clear vision. I ain't tryna hear it. I'm all for spiritual lifting, but I don't fly spirit, not anymore. Nobody does. All smiles, Kevin Durant trials. Had to blow it on a cord. I must have blew a milly. I'm walking in law chalk. That's my new Achilles. I know they love the rock and check, but who gon' do it really? Yes. Ten years in and y'all yet they hear my most impressive verses. Pay the cost to be the boss wasn't even my most expensive purchase. Trust when I say I'm never on the shit, they assuming I'm on. Tales about me are like corritos and coolie. Get that back dream from Saito, you know that man, two Michelin star. Postcard from Gray Space. Vision wasn't mine. Told me the vision was ours. Still a part of Shorty, even if we've been living apart. Rocks or do you filthy for me? Soon as I give 'em the nod. Meaning he'll blast for me, like putting a six with the guard. Hop on the float and show the city the one they appointed. The one that's rebuilding schools and feeding the homeless. Hang with my niggas, but sometimes they'll get to pop it. Drop your boy a share. Double join it. Goals was the top of the pyramid. Open up your heads to the podcast, you know what I'm coming with. We got eighty-two episodes. Like a city girl, and then I'll bring it back to 50. Whoa.
SPEAKER_07You made me this.
SPEAKER_01I ain't one of them niggas that wanna wait till this shit is over to get an appreciation, you know.
SPEAKER_07One of my love lag creatures, words of affirmation.
SPEAKER_03Put the flowers in your boy's face, big 40.
SPEAKER_07Don't wait.
SPEAKER_011% two times, big 40, big deep burst. From the biggest brand you don't know about yet. Let's talk to him, Ross.
SPEAKER_04I was nominated, never won a Grammy. But I understand they'll never understand me.
SPEAKER_01They won't.
SPEAKER_04Lot of lives lost, but I never panic. Lot of lines crossed, I never did a zanny.
SPEAKER_01We never.
SPEAKER_04A hundred room mixed.
SPEAKER_01Little bud here and there.
SPEAKER_04Pretty often actually. Suck in the couple ain't any of that hard shit. Steel blown smoke as angels float above us. Love giving back the Chanel in the mail, Fed extra for real. And what I got for sale, just hit on the scale. Huh? Triple bean dream or buck on the shades. I really think things get the shakes. I really bought cards, women on face. I know it seemed hard, but money. I've been doing this for hours.
SPEAKER_01College loans really open up this DJ thing, really up this open up this playlist, though. Millennium Music wire, got y'all. We ain't always about to big slap. Sometimes we gotta go feast.
SPEAKER_04Living on the edge, keeping me level. Money come and go, I'ma keep it forever. Money come and go, I'ma keep it forever. Flip on glass, slippers that tickle with feathers. Everywhere we go, we create a dilemma. Coming to America. Stay with me.
SPEAKER_01We long on the free ball today. We long on the D verks 3P spice. The first big mix today, but bear with me.
SPEAKER_03We ain't here for a long time anyway. Just vibe.
SPEAKER_04Leo season one more time.
SPEAKER_03We need big love, big appreciation. Talk to him, Drizzy. Oh.
SPEAKER_07You made me this way. Before I'm gone out of this place. Put some flowers in my face, won't you? Let me know that I did okay. I did alright. Still doing all right. We still got more to do.
SPEAKER_03We ain't gonna wait till it's too late, though. But listen, man, keep this thing rolling. Give me a couple air horns. Gotta wake y'all up if you fell asleep on me.
SPEAKER_01I know we ain't big energy today, but we big appreciation. Big life. Celebrate life. Celebrate living.
SPEAKER_03Celebrate another day with breath in your lungs. Celebrate another day on God's green earth. And one time celebrate for the hustlers. As we get to this next pre-pod record, talk to them. You know, one of the favorites. We gotta go three paw three-piece spicy with the big hustlers today. Shit, where we at? Come on, man. I'm fucking up on DJ vibes right now. Talk to me. There we go. We back in mode. We back in mode. Let's get it. If you made it to the end of this tape to appreciate this cut, stay with me as we rock our one time for big nip.

SPEAKER_08We gonna be sides today.
SPEAKER_05I can tell a long story.
SPEAKER_08I can say I'm grateful.
SPEAKER_05I can tell a yank a reason, but just say you're fighting. Just keep pace. Gave no explanation. Yeah, big energy still. Big overcoming energy still.
SPEAKER_03We must leave like the Vicky.
SPEAKER_05They depend on where I'm at to where I started at, they put me in the getting. I'm an artifact. Can't never hang me on the water.
SPEAKER_01They can't. One time for the independent hustlers. One time for the people that'll rather go out there and get it than get it handed to them.
SPEAKER_03This one for y'all, man. This one for us. Big hustle energy. We gon' keep rocking, Nick talk to him again.
SPEAKER_05Count me out, count me out, count me out. I'm used to people down the middle too much. I love the toys, so I'm fucking full. I hate to lose, so I play too much. Speak my mind and say I stay too much.
SPEAKER_01Move it longer, stay with me and we gon' get out of here.
SPEAKER_05It's like this and like that. Just like that. Think I'm too pop, nigga. I need some fucking man, man. Think I'm MM. I'm going crazy. Shoot in front of the shop now.
SPEAKER_03Listen, man. I know we in this this smooth vibe, this this calm energy. I like all that shit, it's cool. But one time we just gotta turn up before we get out of here. One time we gotta just turn up before we move this thing on forward. And you know I'm from the era.
SPEAKER_08Rockefeller.
SPEAKER_03So you know we gotta take it back to a time, different place, different energy. Listen, man, it's a real nigga birthday.
SPEAKER_01It is a real nigga birthday. Show me love.
SPEAKER_08Let's go.
SPEAKER_03We 40, so we still from the era. Still from the era. Just felt a little different, just that a little different back then.
SPEAKER_01Just knock a little bit different now. Back then. Big time. Stay with your boy, let's do it.
SPEAKER_09You know how Matt comes through on the club. If you want, you don't die. Word for word, put the boards on the floor, whole crew be wild. Bitch, back to that stuff. Like juvenile. A dime apiece.
SPEAKER_01See Philly. Bitch on the hit We show love. We show love to Philly. We embrace Philly. Get it down like this. Whole squad fire is crisp. The crowns don't wrist.
SPEAKER_09Whole squad got a pound of twist.
SPEAKER_01Listen, Mac never slip in the club.
SPEAKER_09Told y'all. You know how niggas get in the club.
unknownTalkin' shit.
SPEAKER_09Today, man, gotta come and pick em up. Got bitches in the back bouncing the jigger.
SPEAKER_03What you're doing. Listen, man, if you feel me. Definitely turn this up to ignorant volume. Whatever you doin'. Clean that crib up, riding down the boulevard. Some of y'all gym listeners.
SPEAKER_01Go ahead and get your setting right now. Throw a little bit more weight on that bar. One of the records, you know, if they put a gun in your head and you have to sing a word for word. Competent in this one. We lookin' gonna let J Rock though. But you know we're going to the J burst. If you thought we wasn't you, we gon' fucking twilight. We gon' do it, yeah. We here. How the fuck you gon' talk about them C's on our hill? We just got them things home in the chrome wheels.
SPEAKER_08Both arms are chunky, sleeves on chill. Any given time? Put the G's in your grill. Don't talk to me about them C's got skills. These alright, but he's not real.
SPEAKER_01One hit. Let's go.
unknownYou gotta blow up.
SPEAKER_01That's cool with me.
unknownYou got a little dough.
SPEAKER_08That's cool with me. You got a little car, we all joy. We back though. They would've got me right now. You couldn't tell me with a blue lanky, I wasn't J back in the day. Three cuts in your eyebrows, trying to wild out. Remember them three cut niggas? Remember them three cut bags. Never hands up, niggas, bitches, bustlers, hustlers. Fuck that.
SPEAKER_03Listen, man, thank you. Thank you for bearing with me on the long pre-pod, long, long D Burgs mix. It ain't even a three-piece. We rockin out today, man. So as always, you know the vibes. We back for another audio occasion. It is a podcast for self-starters and those willing to make the most out of any situation. EFS Podcast is back with episode number 82 for the birthday of yours truly. While you record on your birthday, just cause just cause I had clients telling me I shouldn't work today. I didn't technically work today as far as the EFS training center, but you know. Put a little bit of working on the pod just to stay consistent, just to tap in with y'all, man. Share some thoughts, share some emotions. Um big birthday, you know, for those listeners that don't know, this is my 40th year on this earth. 40th rotation around the sun. And as always, gotta hit you with the pre-pod. Well, not the pre-pod, excuse me, the lead-in audio to open things up for a little bit of you know, thought-provoking conversation. So one time for Deontay Cal for this one. Let's talk to him.
SPEAKER_00Excellence is propaganda in the general. You're excellent. The idea of black excellence is propaganda in the general, you're excellent either way. You can be excellent and nobody knows you. You can be excellent with no followers. You can be excellent with a hundred thousand followers. You can be excellent. Just being yourself. You take care of your family, you take care of your kids, you take care of yourself. That's enough. Why everything that we do has to be, it's like there's an expectation that we put on ourselves. And it's to be what? To be like celebrities, these niggas that sell you off the river. The nigga just kissing, this nigga's kissing a racist hand on the Juneteenth at the White House, at a Juneteenth celebration. Looking dead in the camera. He's letting him know what the play is. That's intentional. If we keep getting caught up in this idea of being the first, of breaking the curse, we're gonna continue on this path because you're chasing dreams in the country that wants you to live a nightmare.
SPEAKER_03And that's that, man. That's that. Open up with that. Maybe a little heavier than you might have thought when I was coming for my birthday, but hey man, we're gonna beat y'all over the head with that one. But either way, we here, man. Gotta give an abundance of air horns. Gotta give a round of applause for myself. Show myself the flowers. You know, I'm a Leo. It's big Leo energy. Big birthday energy. Let's go. And as always, if you made it to the audio slash visual occasion, please do not forget to like, comment, share, and subscribe. Get this content out there. If you love it, spread it to the people. But as always, you're here with me for episode number 82 of the EFS Podcast, the man, the myth, the legend, Mr. Big 40. Mr. Big Birthday. You know what I'm saying? Keep that round of applause going for your boy. Spread some love on myself, you know. It's a little self-love. The best kind of love there is as we make it through another year on this earth, man. And come to you, we'll fade out the theme music, man. We'll keep the applause going until they stop, right? Short applause, but whatever, you know. Um, but yeah, man. Happy to be here with y'all. Happy to open up another year of life with y'all. Um, and you know, just tap in, tap in for our 80 second episode as we keep this thing going, man. It is big birthday energy today. I am 40 years old, and uh I woke up this morning and more shit started hurting just out of nowhere. Nah, I'm playing. I'm joking. I'm joking. Uh I am 40. Um shout outs to everybody that you know reached out already through the day. You know how it goes on the birthdays, man. It's just a content flood and stream of communication. Uh the people reaching out to show you love, um, appreciate it. Um and you know, we just here to tap in, just tap in and and experience and soak up the moment. Um and be grateful, man. It is it is a big birthday. Um, and I guess I'll share just the overall story, just kind of leading up to today has been uh uh a little bit of a roller coaster emotions, not in you know super super any kind of negative way. But um this being my fortieth birthday, it is a moment to really just take in what life is and what life has been for myself uh along the ride. Um it's not like 30, it's not like 20, it's not like 25, like the earlier birthdays in your life, they there are milestone birthdays, and uh we don't put any shade on those, but you know, when you hit 40, you've really experienced a a lot of life. Um and leading up to this point, I was talking to someone about this a little bit earlier today, actually. Um you know, where my mind was at leading into you know this being my fortieth birthday uh well yesterday for the people that are listening as we lead to this podcast, but again, like I said, a little bit earlier, we're gonna stretch this thing out, we're gonna do the week celebration. Um, but it's been a very introspective time. Like when I tell you, like my mind has gone back to like my earliest childhood memories, like just leading up to my fortieth birthday, um, just like out of nowhere, you know, and I you know I'm a I'm a deep thinker, someone who who practices, you know, just being aware of self and just you know, being in tune with who you are as an individual. So just going back to that early in my life to just like grab memories and you know, grab moments and kind of like let them sink into where they sat in my life to turn me into the person that I am now. Um, you know, twenty five, uh thirty five, you know, fifteen years later. Like so all different points in my life you'll hit leading up to this birthday, just to kind of take it all in and say, Damn, like I'm by this. Standards, I kind of joke around with this often, but once you hit 37, 38, you're pretty much middle-aged, at least by the American numbers, American standards. I think it's 38.5 years or 37.5 years, something like that. Um, but either way, once you're around then, which I've already surpassed, you know, you already are middle-aged. That's, you know, God willing, you know, if you make it past 80, great. But if you don't, then again, you're pretty much middle-aged at this point in your life. I know kind of that 50-year-old timeline or 50-year-old age kind of gets that stigma put on it. But right now, you're like a middle-aged person. Like you've been through half of what most people are going to get in their life. Um, and you kind of take a moment to really connect with what's gotten you here, you know. And I've had so many phases of my life thus far uh that have kind of brought me to this point. Um, and it's been real, it's been a real positive experience to look back on everything that I've been through. Um, and sometimes you do just random at different checkpoints in your life, but now just big birthday, like it's taking me back to like uh again, my 10-year career overseas, because a quarter of my life I was playing overseas basketball, you know, just running around the world doing different things on different countries. Like, so even that, like taking a chance to let those things seep in. And oftentimes we don't really live in the moment when we're going through these things, and it takes time and years and separation from certain moments to look back and be like, damn, I did some like fire shit, some dope shit, you know, or just even you know, some of the things I've done post-athletically have had a different like lens and on those recently now being 40, because you know, I did retire, quote, air course retire from the game of basketball, mid like 30s, like pretty much leading into, you know, the the young still, but you know, you headed towards 40. Like my 30s have been mainly lived here, um, back home and you know, working and growing myself as a professional outside of the actual game of athlete uh sport and athletics, and just looking back on everything I've done with that and just being like, damn, you've come like a long ass way. You've had so many different phases of your life thus far. And you kind of look at each one and appreciate it for what it is and kind of take certain things from those moments. And you know, even going back to like high school, you know, things I learned while playing for some of the places I played as a basketball player, just you know, the grind, the hustle to just get to certain points in my life and my career at that point. It's been like a real like journey, you know, and and a lot of things learned, a lot of things, you know, went wrong and a lot of things were great. So having that, you know, real appreciation for everything now at this point in my life has been beautiful, you know. And I'm super blessed, I'm super happy to be at this point in my life, man. And I think that the next 10 years of my life have a different like focus headed towards 50, like, you know, because that's when you're setting up for you know the next generation of your life, you know. I have a daughter, so you know, a lot of things I'm doing now putting in place for myself are also to be able to like pass down some things to her uh when the time comes. So now looking at the next 10 years, which is another milestone birthday, 50, you know, to 60 to 70, like every 10 years is pretty much a milestone once you hit 40, like for real, for real. So now it's looking at that and looking ahead to say, like, what does that look like for me? You know, the things I want to put in place with the brand, the business, like how I want that to grow. You know, where do I want to see myself and my family and you know, everything that I've really put roots into now to kind of grow, it it it feels encouraging, you know, because at this point in my life, I would say I get I do get not down on myself, but you know, just looking at the point looking at myself and saying, like, I, you know, we've had a career in basketball, leaving that to then get into a professional world where a lot of people have the leg up on you, you know. So the whole professional late bloomer kind of thing. So now being at the point where I'm 40, I feel for a year now I've been independent of working for any company, you know, just working for myself, growing my brand, and everything still being on the up and up. Like for that feels beautiful, you know, headed into my 40s. And as someone who's been, you know, on this podcast talking about freedom, talking about entrepreneurships, talking about, you know, just growing your own thing and and taking that steps in those lanes. It's good to see that now headed into my 40s and into my 50s, that I can really like stick my boots on the ground to try to grow something that again I can pass down to the next generation or just make life look for myself and those around me a lot different by the time that point hits. Um, so yeah, a lot of a lot of feelings, a lot of emotions, and again, a lot of gratitude and just appreciation for being at this point. Um, so along with that, you know, I I my whole birthday planning thing has been kind of shitty just because I've been so locked in on the business and I've had multiple conversations with people at this point, like, bro, why haven't you set up something like super, super like celebratory for your birthday? And I've been telling people like I don't feel like celebrating right now because I have so many things that I'm looking to do that I feel like I gotta check off the list. So leading up to my 40th birthday, I kind of had a late like surge of like, damn, like I probably should be doing something, but I haven't really planned anything. Um, so got myself together real quick and try to set up a different like type of vibe for myself. Something real intimate um that I'll be doing at one of the local restaurants here. You know, hopefully, you know, after this time, we can we can maybe get into a little bit of a uh a partnership or some kind of agreement to where I give y'all a little bit more love. But, you know, on the podcast, my platform, we ain't doing that just yet. Um, but got a nice little dinner situation set up, man. And I think uh it's gonna be great for me to be 40 to not have something like super, super hype running around and you know, party partying. But um dinner's Friday, uh Friday evening with close friends, close family, um, and a lot of the supporters of the people who, you know, have really looked out for me in business, and not even all of them, because honestly, I couldn't get enough reservations to you know accommodate. Uh, so it was a little bit of a smaller guest list. So I did kind of, you know, pick some people that I wanted to invite, you know, threw some things out there. Some people can't make it, which is just fine. I understand that. Uh, but just bring a collection of people that I know appreciate me for one thing or another in their life, and you know, it's vice versa, it's a reciprocal, you know, relationship in that way. Uh, so that'd be dope. Um, and you know, we're just gonna have an evening, man, and have some kind of time. And I keep telling people like I'll do better going forward with birthdays, uh, because again, every birthday after 40 is kind of one way you gotta kind of celebrate it a little bit, you know. At least that's how I feel, or I'm looking at it going forward after being so, you know, like locked in now that I kind of forgot my own shit was coming up. Um, so looking forward to that, looking forward to everyone coming out um and and having a moment, having a time for that, man. So we're gonna stretch this thing out a little bit, man. Just really appreciate uh the moment for me. Um and outside of that, man, it's not really too much to deliver today. Um, did want to just uh tap in with y'all, let y'all know that you know I'm I'm here to stay consistent and keep this thing rolling. Um, and uh, as always, man, share with a friend, like especially if you really fuck with me, uh, and you're listening to this on my birthday episode, share with a friend, man. So if you took anything from my thoughts as someone who may be, you know, of that age yourself or grow into that stage of your life, or someone who's younger, man, like younger people, it's gonna be over before you know it. Like your youth is gonna go by like that. Um, and quick tangent, I guess, before I get out of here. Like, not to say that I haven't lived a long life, 40 is a lot of years, but it does feel like a lot of things went quickly. So, as someone who's older, you know, talking to the younger people, like as far as you know, reaching back, which I do with working with young athletes and just you know, in general, I know a lot of younger people than me. Um, my goal now is to kind of get them to appreciate where they're at, just because like shit goes by super, super fast. And when you get to this point, again, you'll be looking back at it. So the if you're 25, this is your 25th birthday, like enjoy it, take time to appreciate what you've done, where you've been at. You know, if this is your 30th birthday coming up, same thing. Like those of us headed to 40, like, listen, plan your birthday early because it is a moment to celebrate, you know, not to make it more, but but a lot of people don't make it this far in life. And if you have, you know, show yourself the the love that you deserve, you know. Um, but that said, man, tap in, we tap out. Got a couple things with Fan on deck for today as we get ready for Friday coming up and keep it a little bit lighter, shall share a moment with some close, close family, um, just to have some time. But yeah, man, D Burke's birthday episode, episode number 82 is out. If you came to listen, of course, regard yourself mentally, physically, spiritually, and all things in between until the next go round. Peace.
