Jana Hunt and Reata Zeanah

Send us a text

On today's episode, Jana and Reata share their favorite tangible takeaways from the book of Mark. Reata shares some of Mark's history, as well as some additional facts traditionally believed regarding his background. Jana relates the parable of the mustard seed (in Mark Chapter 4) to her life and how it inspires her to overcome feelings of being unqualified or unworthy to achieve goals, aspirations, and/or God's callings.

They also discuss how struggling is natural and should be expected throughout life, and the dangers of seeking comfort, and how comfort can be a hindrance or an excuse that gets in the way of living a purpose driven life. Additionally, Reata ponders the idea of baptism, such as its origin, meaning, and various representations/appearances throughout scripture.

They conclude their conversation exploring the meaning behind Mark 8:14-15 and Jesus' warning about the yeast of the Pharisees and Herod, hitting on topics, such as the consequences of conforming to the ideals and practices of the culture and how those things can creep in and change you.

Verses Referenced:

Mark 4:30-32 (NIV) The Parable of the Mustard Seed

30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”

Mark 8:14-15 (NIV) The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod

14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.”
