Digital Trends, Bad Ideas, and Buzzwords (w/ Mike Swartz)

XD Media Episode 66

Howdy friends! I loved this conversation and I think you definitely will as well.

Some themes of this episode include:

  • Don’t be afraid to have bad ideas
  • Not being to precious about your work
  • Not taking yourself too seriously
  • Being allergic to buzzwords
  • Not confusing design with art

Before starting Upstatement, Mike Swartz worked in newsrooms and magazines such as The Boston Globe and Complex Magazine. He studied Journalism and Advertising Design before leaving for a job as Art Director of the Globe’s Sunday Ideas section, later finishing his degree in Computer Science at Boston University. He taught graphic design at Massachusetts College of Art and Design from 2009 - 2011. He has spoken at conferences across the country and his work has been honored by the Society for News Design, Society of Publication Designers, AIGA, Editor and Publisher, Communication Arts, SXSW, FastCompany, and the Webbys.
