Setting Intentions for 2025
Speaker 1Well, well, well, what do we have here? It's the last podcast of the year and you know what I'm thinking Dang it. I wish I had a USB-C to USB adapter, because I got a brand new podcasting microphone for Christmas and I can't even plug it in and use it. That's what I'm thinking. All right, new year, we'll use that in the new year. Okay, but for real, what am I thinking?
Speaker 1Quote unquote new year's resolutions Psych. This is not that kind of party. Let's be real. Resolutions are basically a setup for failure and burnout, and I should know, because I've been that person many times, over and over and over. Lesson learned, maybe, but you know the one who sets 37 goals by January 1st, crushes it for like two weeks and then completely crashes by February. Yes, that's me Sound familiar. Oh, my god, what? Smash the crash? You say, damn straight. Smash the crash in your own way. So this year, we're doing things differently.
Speaker 1Today, I want to talk to you about how you want to feel in 2025, how you want to show up and the tiny, sustainable steps that you can take to get you there. So let's build something real, something raw, something authentic, and not just shiny and new for a hot minute. This is my shiny object objection. So, before we charge into 2025, let's take a deep breath and take a quick look backwards. We're not walking backwards, we're just checking out the exterior view there In the past year, I want you to ask yourself in the past year what went really well or what felt really good In the past year, what totally drained me and what have I learned about myself?
Speaker 1So if I were to answer these questions for myself, for example, in the past year, what went really well Utilizing the PTO that is provided to me at my job? I went on several vacations this year, both with my family and without my family, literally down to the last two days of PTO in the year. So here I am, two days before the new year, two days of PTO left. We made it, but and I don't normally do that Normally I like to roll over a whole week, but this year I did things a little bit differently. I made time to relax, to recharge and doing things that made me feel whole In the past year. What totally drained me?
Speaker 1Procrastination. I swear procrastinate or procrastinator procrastination is my middle name, but what I've found and learned about myself this year is that I truly, if it doesn't feel aligned. It's like this wall or barrier has been put between me and that thing that I don't really want to do and, for those of you who know me, folding laundry is totally that thing, but when you let it go for so long, then it's like this huge literal mountain that then really burns the energy. So keep an eye out for one of my future podcasts about procrastination. And what have I learned about myself this year? Well, I love taking naps. I'm kidding, I already knew about myself, but in all honesty, I've learned that I am way more than I give myself credit for, and working with a confidence coach over the last couple months has really helped dive deep into seeing my own worth and not relying on the perceptions of others to build that worth. So take a moment to write it down and just sit with these questions for a second. Your answers will give you a baseline for what to do more of and what to drop like a bag of rotten potatoes, all right, all right.
Speaker 1So switching gears. Now we're turning back around, we're looking forward, we're heading into a new year, and instead of asking yourself what do I want to accomplish, let's ask how do I want to feel? Are you looking for calm? Are you looking for energy? Are you looking for confidence, clarity, how do you want others to experience you and what's one thing that you'll be proud of at the end of this coming year? So, if I were to provide you with my answers, here's what Melissa Hindman has to say how do I want to feel in 2025? I want to feel physically strong, I want to feel confident and I want to feel clarity when I think about how others want to experience me. I want them to experience my authentic self. No worries about what others' perceptions are, because, believe me, this is still an area I'm working on, but my self-worth is not determined by someone else's thoughts of me. And if you need to borrow the confidence in that statement, do it. In fact, steal it, because you are worth so much more than you give yourself credit for. Don't give others the power over your self-worth. And what is one thing I want to be proud of at the end of this year? I want to be proud of quality Quality that I feel and provide with my family, my friends and you, my listeners. All right, so close your eyes, if you can, and, unless you're driving, obviously, just picture it. Hold on to the feeling that you want to feel in this coming year that, my friend, that is your North Star.
New Year Your Way Mini Guide
Speaker 1Now here's where we pivot from big resolutions I'm calling them shenanigans, I'm calling it out shenanigans we're pivoting from shenanigans to micro habits, and these are tiny, realistic actions that you can stick to. So here are a few ideas. If energy is your goal, start your day with one to five minutes of stretching or movement, like that's it. We don't have to go all crazy and get up early and go to the gym and be there for an hour Like, start your day five minutes early. Do some stretching Easy. If you're looking to work on your mindset, keep a little notebook next to your bed and at the end of the day, write one thing you're grateful for each night, one thing from that day. If you're looking for boundaries, commit to saying no to an unnecessary task or maybe an unnecessary obligation to commit to. And if you like to reflect, spend a few minutes on Sundays thinking about how you showed up the week before and how you want to tweak that for this week. Moving forward. The magic is in starting. Small, these tiny shifts, they can snowball into big change and they actually stick.
Speaker 1Okay, quick story. Quick story Because I'm striving for 100% authenticity. Every year, I used to go all in on resolutions. I wouldn't write them down, but they would be like in my head and I would be like all gung ho and make these huge, overly ambitious plans like I'm going to work out every day or I'm going to overhaul my diet, aka cut out all M&Ms, completely, organize my life haha, that's still a joke and basically become a superhero overnight. Yeah, I mean, that does sound pretty dreamy, right, but that's exactly what it remains A dream, because, guess what? I crushed it for about two or three weeks and then the burnout hit like a frickin' freight chain and I spent the next month binge eating M&Ms and passing out on the couch from super carb overload, feeling like a total failure. Does this sound familiar? This year, I'm not doing that and I don't want you to either.
Speaker 1So here's what we're going to do instead we're going to take a minute after this episode and write these three bullets down. I will feel fill in the blank. I will show up as fill in the blank. I will focus on what are you going to do? What are you going to focus on? What are you going to show up as how do you want to feel?
Speaker 1Put it somewhere you'll see it every day. Hang it on your bathroom mirror. Put it as the background in your phone. Hang it on your cubicle while at work. Say it out loud to yourself when you see it, or walk past it Like out loud, because there's something really powerful about speaking words into existence.
Speaker 1And if you need a little help getting started, I've got you covered. Existence. And if you need a little help getting started, I've got you covered. I've created a mini guide called your New Year your Way, and it's packed with simple steps to reflect, create a vision and start small with micro habits that actually will work for you. Grab it in the show notes below. I don't plan to put this on my website anytime soon, so if you grab it, save it somewhere where you'll easily remember it and moving forward, I'll send you tips and resources and a little encouragement to keep you going all year long. All right, my friend, we're hours before the new year. Remember, it's not about being what Perfect, it's about showing up in a way that feels authentic and true to you. So make 2025 the year of small, meaningful steps toward the life that you really want, not the life that your neighbor down the street wants. All right, cut the shenanigans and smash that link in the show notes to grab your mini guide.
