This episode is the why behind everything. Why visibility matters, why marketing doesn't have to feel icky, and why showing up isn't actually about you at all. Brené Brown said we are hardwired for connection, and once that landed for me – really landed – it changed the way I think about all of it. It's about the person scrolling at 11pm with a headache who just needs to find someone they already trust. That person is looking for you. Oh, and there's a freebie in the show notes. Go grab it.

Why Visibility Matters\n

SPEAKER_00

Hello and welcome back to the Cioer Visibility Podcast. I'm really glad you're here for this one, because this episode is kind of the why behind everything I talk about. Everything. The social media, the showing up, the visibility work, it all comes back to what we're covering today. And it starts with a quote. It's from Brene Brown from her book Daring Greatly. And it goes like this. Connection is why we're here. We are hardwired to connect with others. It's what gives purpose and meaning to our lives. And without it, there is suffering. I think about that a lot. We are hardwired for connection. We're not designed to connect occasionally when it's convenient, or when we get the perfect caption ready, or when we feel brave enough, it's in us. It is who we are. And I want to tell you why that quote landed so hard for me personally. Because it didn't just make intellectual sense. It made sense in a very specific way for a moment in my life. COVID. When everything shut down. Now I know we've all got our COVID stories, and I'm not here to dwell on a really horrible time. But for me, that period was genuinely the first time I stepped out and started doing what I now do. And it wasn't because I had a great strategy or a content plan. It was because I was lost and I was scared and I was deeply, genuinely fearful about what losing connection was doing to people. To my practice members, to my community, to myself. For the first time I really felt the weight of what it means to be a chiropractor in a community. I didn't want to be just a practitioner adjusting people one at a time. I'm a big part of my community, and my community is a big part of me. And leaning into that is not arrogance, it wasn't self-promotion. It's a beautiful, important thing. And so I started showing up online because that was all I had. I set up Facebook groups and I went live in them, and it was uncomfortable and imperfect and messy and scary, and I had no idea what I was doing half the time. But what came back really wasn't what I expected. People were desperate to connect with other people. They wanted to hear from familiar faces that gave them a little sense of safety in a very unsafe feeling world. And that's when I understood what visibility actually is. We are hardwired for connection. And every single way you show up online, your social media, your email list, your online presence, even with the noise and the messiness and the AI stuff that's out there now, it still matters. Every one of these is a connection point. And I want to point out here that that's the in-person connection too. The networking, the going out meeting people, the talks, they matter too. That is you extending a hand. That's you being a familiar, safe, trusted face for somebody who really needs it. And it's not marketing in the gross, salesy, icky sense that the word has somehow collected over the years. I know so many chiropractors who flinch at the word marketing, and I used to. And honestly, fair enough, because the version of it most of us have been shown is a little bit grim. But at its core, marketing is just connection. It's giving your people a way to find you, a way to hear from you, a way to feel less alone in whatever they're dealing with, and it gives people the opportunity to find something that will genuinely help them, which is the whole point of why you became a chiropractor in the first place. So when I talk about visibility, when I talk about showing up on social media, building an email list, building your online presence, I want you to hear it through this lens. We are hardwired for connection. Your people are looking for it, and you have something at your fingertips that can give it to them. And I hope that's not a burden because it's a privilege. We are not showing up for us. Yes, your practice will grow. Yes, visibility helps you attract the right people. Yes, it is marketing, we already talked about that, and yes, it will benefit you. But it's not for you, it's for them. For the person who is scrolling at 11 pm with a headache and a bit of worry, for the new mum who has just moved to the area and doesn't know who can help her yet. For the person who has never been to a chiropractor and is a little bit nervous about what it involves. We show up so that when they finally walk through your door, they already know you. They've seen your face, they've heard your voice, they've read something you wrote that made them think, yeah, she gets it. That moment of, I already know you. That's what visibility creates. That's the connection that happens before you've even said hello in person. And if that one little shift, if it helps you feel differently about showing up, it will help you show up better, more consistently, and in a way that is more you. And who knows, you might even start to enjoy it. Okay, I'll leave that with you. Come and find me on Instagram, DM me, I'm at Cara Visibility, and I'd love to hear which part of this landed for you. I've also put a freebie in the show notes for you. It's an audit but not a scary one. Please don't worry, it just gives you a chance to take a look at what you're putting out there. At the end, I've included five prompts you can use straight away to start showing up. That's it, go grab it, link is in the show notes. If you're ready to go further, the membership is open. It's here whenever you need it, whenever you're ready, come on in. You are always welcome. And thank you for being part of the Chira Visibility Pod, where Chiropractic finds its people.
