Ok folks, here's another episode that I must ask you to hang your dogmatic practices on the shelf before tuning in. If you can't do that, this episode may not be the one for you!
We will look at the history behind obtaining two sets of cultures (aerobic and anaerobic) on patients, why they have to come from different sites, and why we seem to cling desperately to this idea that ALL infection patients who need cultures absolutely MUST have them obtained before administration of antibiotics. Join me and we will look at the reasoning, discuss high-performing pre-hospital and hospital systems that are doing the opposite now, and why. Think you can sit through this one?
