The Synapse Season 4 Episode 5 - The Shock Indices
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Shock is not just about BP. In fact, in adults in hemorrhagic shock, we typically need to lose at least 1.5L of blood before BP changes, which is stage III shock. In kids? That can vary but is much more on the occult side. You can be in shock with severe anemia and have no blood pressure change. So how do we better evaluate our patients for shock??? Enter systolic and diastolic shock indices, as well as the reverse shock index. Join me and find out how easy this is to apply to medical and trauma patients and how quickly it can pick up on hidden shock when the other vitals don't necessarily scream at you.
