The episode wraps up with a peek into the massage therapy business, where we discuss everything from promotions to tips and the art of connecting with clients. Welcome to the B-Team Podcast. I am your host, josh Safran, with my co-host, matt Morris, and our permanent guest, rob Nelson. We're here every week to talk to you about all things Bentonville, bourbon and business the B-Team Podcast Be here. Welcome to the B-Team Podcast. I'm your host, josh Safran, along with my co-host, matt Morris, and our permanent guest, rob Nelson, who is unprepared today. I'm always prepared. I showed up. That's what counts. Yeah, but sometimes we need a little bit more Guest. Yeah, but sometimes we need more and more. Well, we asked you to prepare accordingly from a dress code. Today you were supposed to be wearing the Santa suit with the tank top.
Speaker 1:Oh well, you know, sometimes I don't know if you're for real or you're joking, or what's truly happening, so I just usually do what I want. But it's the festive season, we want it festive. Yeah, it was festive. I don't know. I don't have any words, I'm just yeah.
Speaker 1:Well, let's get to something more exciting. We're here at least Thursday, all things business, bentonville and bourbon, and today we're going to drink one of Bobby's favorites. It's actually one of my new favorites, for sure, so I haven't had it yet, so I'm going to let you do the honors. Is this the bottle we found you? So I'm going to let you do the honors. Is this the bottle we found you? This is the bottle you found me. Diana, you won't be drinking any of this, no.
Speaker 1:Sticked to my water. She's got a healthier outlook on life than we do. Yeah, a little poor for me, because I know you love this All over my hands. He knows Diana's judging. He's like just get down a little bit.
Speaker 2:No, it's not even because I think I'm better or anything, it's just it makes my stomach feel like a furnace.
Speaker 1:So I'm just like Well, let's be clear you are better than us, yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:I mean, so, do we need to tell the story about finding this in the wild? We should. Yeah, so well, let's not name the store, let's not blow the store. But we were at a local store and the three of us were in there which is kind of rare that all of us were together At one time and there were two on the shelf. So me and Rob maybe, grabbed the first two and went over and saw Josh and he goes where's the third two? And went over and saw Josh and he goes where's the third one? And we were like there was only two. Can you go ask the manager? Can you go ask the manager if we can have three? There's three of us here. Our good friends would have said I will offer you my bourbon, but they're like, yeah, well, we might have had two or three other things. Steve, okay, worst, but anyway, we got it taken care of, we got his bottle and now I'm sharing, which is nice. Cheers, yeah, cheers, cheers, cheers.
Speaker 2:Thanks. So do you guys actually like the taste or what's the hype behind it?
Speaker 1:This one specifically or in general? Just in general yeah, it's definitely an acquired taste. It's, if you're new into alcohol the beer, the wine, the vodka, the gin, the tasteless stuff this is more of an acquired taste. I didn't like this at the beginning and now I find which one I like.
Speaker 2:Yeah, hair on your chest, yeah, or your back another, just another reason not to drink, yeah exactly.
Speaker 1:I mean, I think most of us we just drink it because everyone else does, so we just have to. But no, it's good, though I like it, but it is an acquired taste. You know, the first time that I had any bourbon or whiskey, I was like, yeah, I'll never have that. Well, but you also tried it when you were seven. Well, I mean, it's a different time.
Speaker 1:A different time, probably in the womb. You know, our parents are all having them where we were born, didn't they used to put, like the other gums with the baby? Oh, yeah, when you're teething? Yeah, yeah, nothing's it. That's probably why you probably had it, yeah, back at that day. Yeah, I acquired it young. Well, we're here every 30 for all things business, bedroll and bourbon. And today we have a lovely young lady in here, diana ocampo.
Speaker 1:Ocampo, ocampo, tomato, tomato and I got introduced to you maybe a year or two ago and these guys always say I'm very high stressed, like very high strung, and so typically, when I see you, who does the most amazing massage in Northwest Arkansas, I need to see you before I see them because you guys, you do a great job. Is it before or is it after that? You truly need to see her after you hang out with us. Well, the reality is, I see you guys so much and I see her every couple of weeks. I really need to see her more often because she is just so amazing for the entire body experience. But you have your own place called Body.
Speaker 2:Balance Massage. It's my own business, body Balance Massage, so it's kind of like a two-way thing. I do travel massage with it, but I also have my own room inside of this other business called Graceful Beauty. So I do the travel massage. Obviously, I go see Josh and I have other clients and then body balance inside the Graceful Beauty building.
Speaker 1:So I want to tell you, you guys have you've had massage before? Yeah, you've had massage before. Yeah, all right. So the best part about she's amazing, talented, wonderful. You've had her at the gents before even too. Yes, yeah, yes, shout out. She's always made that out to dance, shout out. But he, rob, wore the right clothes. Yeah, yeah, I don't know what happened. I know what happened.
Speaker 1:Anyway, too many drinks last night, nah, anyway, so she comes to your house if you have that type of relationship with her, like she's the VIP and all that other stuff, vip and she'll bring a table Sorry, lotions and everything else, and then she'll clean up and she'll go. So, like, just imagine not having to leave your house for a massage. It's fantastic. So when you go, you sit in the lobby with your little robe on. Maybe the robe opens up a little bit too much and people see a little bit more of your thigh than they. Like, bobby, I mean at home, I don't think so. I was like Go for your professional massage. I don't go for professional massage. That's part of the problem. You said your back is hurting you. No, my back is actually fine now. It's healed itself, it fixed itself. Yeah.
Speaker 2:Are you stressed out? Are you?
Speaker 1:I think maybe I was stressed for a minute and I had this weird knot in my back for two weeks, two and a half weeks, Mm-hmm, and then it just. I almost went to the doctor. It was so bad. The reality is he hadn't been on vacation in a while, and so when he's not on vacation he gets a little stressed when he doesn't watch it, that's true. Working a lot lately yeah, the house on bus will do so. Diana, you just recently opened up your own business. Right, you were working for somebody else.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so I'm still there part-time, but I'm trying to transition to do my own thing um full-time. So, um, yeah, basically I'm there, say, monday, tuesday and Fridays, um doing my own thing in the, the building that I'm leasing, um, and and I do travel massage. Really, the travel massage is a lot more flexible, so if someone's referred to me, then I can open up my schedule whenever it's available.
Speaker 1:So for the viewers explain travel massage.
Speaker 2:In terms of scheduling or just the whole process.
Speaker 1:Yeah, what is travel massage? Yeah, or what kind of massage? What all do you With travel massage? Massage you're going to the client. Is that what it means?
Speaker 2:yeah, so just like josh explained, like I bring everything to you right, so like the table, the linens, the oils, whatever the cupping, scraping, the music, the music, yes, um, straight from my phone, very, you know, minimal um, and then really we just do whatever massage like is needed, like I'm very much like client centered, so it's like really it's customized, whatever you need, like okay, we're gonna do that so if you just kind of want to relax, we'll go for a swedish, like a deep swedish, if you want.
Speaker 1:If you're recovering from like an acl surgery, we're gonna do more, like you know, scraping and like more recovery christmas presents for angie and I'm thinking I might send her to go see Angie tomorrow morning, if you have availability. Oh, he's not great over scheduling. I'll have to help with that. Yeah, whatever, maybe a reminder Reminder.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but yeah in terms of the-.
Speaker 1:Let's talk about scheduling. The Mars family with scheduling. Well, we can't make dinner tonight in an hour and a half. Yeah, it's fine. It's fine, so, uh, but no, also, you do the curated massage based on what the client needs. So, like, for example, for the last year or two, I've had, uh, calf issues, hamstring issues, shoulder issues from being the world-class athlete that I am, if you guys wouldn't, it sounds like they're just getting old. Yes, now I have knee surgery, so she's really focused on scraping, which we'll talk about, and cupping, which we'll demonstrate on Matthew. But so, really, it's just really what you need and she's building the massage around. You Been to that place and it's like all right, turn it over, all right, can I get a tip now?
Speaker 1:It's like, oh, that was the worst massage ever, but that was pretty good I mean it was okay, I have a good massage story and then we can keep going, but also one, so one, I have some, is it dg13? Yeah, well, well, it's kind of it was just funny. So one time I was, I was getting one time. Well, you know, when you go in and they're like, okay, just get, get all ready and put this out, put the sheet over you and you're ready. And so I got already it's gonna fly for me and rob. But I, you know I'm big.
Speaker 1:So I was, I was getting on the bed and I I pushed on the like the little head ring and it broke off and I was like I like looked under there and it like broke the bracket. So I was like I just kind of held it up on my head. Oh my gosh. The old lady was like she came in and she was like what's wrong with this? And I was like I don't know, it just fell off. So now, like when I go in there, I'm like stay away from that ring until you're all in place. So you may not want to do massage with Matt. Do you break your table? You may not want to do massage with Matt until you break the table.
Speaker 2:Your heavy head's just going to destroy my equipment.
Speaker 1:I think it could have been my hands when I was like positioning on there. Now I hold it on the table. Smart, you're becoming less of a novice. I don't know if anyone's done that to yours.
Speaker 2:No, no, I can't say.
Speaker 1:Can't say she's had the experience. You may have a higher quality table. You never know table, okay, you never know. But anyway, that was my funny story. Besides, uh, carrie and I might we've done couples massage before, but I fall asleep and start snoring, so we don't do that anymore.
Speaker 1:So, because you ruin her experience, yeah, you get rid of the zen, for yeah, yeah yeah so question for you, multiple questions um, being a young entrepreneur doing going out on your own, it's easy to go work for somebody else. You show up, everything's there for you. What's been the biggest challenge? Struggle learning for you as you're building and growing your own business.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I would say just the more tedious things like marketing, figuring out the algorithm for Facebook ads and just Facebook posting, just the marketing of yourself type of stuff, cause I'm, I don't know I. I think I struggled initially like really putting myself out there, but I was just like if no one knows about me, no one's going to know where to book or like where to go, so like I need to, you know market myself better.
Speaker 2:So I guess really at the root of that is just like having the confidence to do it it's just like you know, just go for it, um, and knowing that you're gonna succeed as long as you like work hard and stay consistent. So I think I just had to like have a self-talk with myself about that um, and then, yeah, just like marketing being consistent with that, I feel like I struggle with like consistent posting, so that's something I'm still kind of getting the hang of these guys don't post either when it comes to the podcast.
Speaker 1:So I mean, no, we're just sharing. It's hard, like you sure, am I sure? Because I like it's. I'm kind of I'm private about a lot of things, so I'm like I don't want everything about, but you have to open the door for everyone to like you know, to be able to get all of it. You're a prize winner. I don't like posting things on social media all the time, neither do I. That explains a lot. But, like I say, if you want, in this day and age, that is the advertising and it's with the algorithms that they have, they key in on what they know.
Speaker 2:If people are looking at massages and you post all the time, it like, yeah, it bumps you, but if you don't post all the time you're, you're never gonna yeah gonna get that yeah I think it's like kind of gets into like I don't know more personal stuff, but like you know, as an introvert you're just kind of like oh, I'm kind of scared to put myself out there. But really it's kind of fun because I feel like I've grown in that aspect, like just having to force myself to like network and like meet new people. Like now I actually really love it, like yeah it's fun getting.
Speaker 1:Well, you've met a ton of new people. I think we're fine for your business. You and I talk about it a lot. Right, I introduce you to somebody that you're going to get a massage, and then they somebody else and somebody else, and somebody else Just like Chuck Mortar Shout out to Chuck Like he's a client now, but he came to you through the Jem's place and some of the stuff that we've done.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:So that's good.
Speaker 2:No, yeah, and I've met some like really cool people Like I, even got to massage.
Speaker 1:You know Rob Schneider is. See, I saw you posted about him. Tell Bobby who Bobby Schneider is.
Speaker 2:Rob Schneider, Like grown-ups the comedian.
Speaker 1:Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, Didn't he go to the Grove?
Speaker 2:Yeah, he performed at the Grove.
Speaker 1:Oh, okay, yeah.
Speaker 2:And I got to give him a massage. It was just like it was a cool experience. But you know, as I walked into like the hotel room, it was like I can't believe this is happening, like it's kind of cool. But then, very quickly, it was like he's just, he's just another human, yeah it's cool, whatever, yeah, um, I mean nobody listens to the podcast.
Speaker 1:So big tipper, not a big tipper, I mean I can call him out. Nobody's gonna ever see this, or we'll just add it very nice, generous. That's a very good way to answer that question. When you get to massage a b-team co-host today, so like rob schneider and a b-team co-host like you're talking about going from right, yeah, it's kind of a level level playing. It's right above approach. But. But I think it's the same when, when josh asked me if I would want to do this, like initially I was like I do not want to do that. But actually Rob and I said like we actually look forward to coming and doing this because it's like we don't, our phones aren't on.
Speaker 2:It's like you're, you get to do this and have fun for, yeah, three hours while we do this, yeah, and it like not only does it get you out of your bubble, but I've like learned a lot about business through interacting with other business people, people who are well-versed in that area. I feel like I see you as a mentor. Yeah, and Chuck.
Speaker 1:Mentor Josh, like me. See, I'm here for you, guys, I'm here for you. She's like I'm your self-advocate. She's going to answer Jen. She's like oh, you just pose yourself magic compliments but you keep giving yourself compliments. Well, somebody in the group has got to see the value that I provide, you know, and she's one of them. He's our admin. I don't know if he told you, but I did a good job with getting him dressed appropriately for massage today. You failed miserably. I thought we were getting t, t-shirts and logo, uniforms and stuff Once we get the sponsorship. I love that. Once we have dinner right back, you love being on that side of the table and just watching Mid-Town. I'm back over here doing a little puppet master over here. You look great. So back to Matthew. So Matthew needs some cupping. He's never had that done before. That's one of the great services. So can you tell us what cupping is, when you use it, why you use it and then demonstrate on Matthew, yeah.
Speaker 2:I actually brought my cups.
Speaker 1:This is the first for you, right? Yeah, I've never done that.
Speaker 2:You've never done cupping.
Speaker 1:Are we going to do it on my neck here? No, we want Karen to see a big hinky. Shut up, shut.
Speaker 2:shout out to Gary do your shoulder, your arm wherever you think. I see where it will suction.
Speaker 1:I would like a big spot right in his forehead. That would be fun. Look at those guts. That's all I need to talk to you about.
Speaker 2:I do have my certification too, let me know will it go there?
Speaker 1:she's like, yeah, there's plenty of fat there, it sucks right in. I won't flex or anything. Show the fans the guns. I mean look at that tattoo too. I mean that was back in the day, you could tell. I mean it goes all the way around. Yeah, it looks like there's a little fresher up here yeah, it looks a little stout yeah, when my wife says she doesn't want to get a tattoo because what she'll look like when she's 90 now yeah oh, look at I'm gonna it is and so what are we using?
Speaker 1:lotion, how's? How's that feel, it's nice.
Speaker 2:Oil.
Speaker 1:It's light, feels good. Yeah, I hope I'm not turning too many of the ladies on watching this the gun show. It's possible. Yeah, I mean I'm turning on watching you. I've never seen anything like this. I'm just going to sit here and drink this.
Speaker 2:I can't believe Rob is missing out on this. So this is the cup that I typically use. I use silicone cups. The purpose of cupping is basically to it's another way of like breaking up tissues. So instead of me going through with my fingers, I can just suction the tissue and it breaks it up. That way I can move it around break up the tissue, you know according to like the muscle fibers, whichever direction they're going.
Speaker 1:So and then. So do you do this for more problems or maintenance or like, like, I guess. What are the many different things that it does?
Speaker 1:um like, like, is this like for someone like a bodybuilder like me, that like just needs to focus, like, do people that lift weights all the time do it to to help with things, or is it just mostly, if you have a problem, well, you have a lot of problems really it's for everything, I feel like that's why I love cupping so much, because, like you, really can't use it for everything, like whether it's maintenance or whether it's, like you know, just bringing blood to the surface of the muscle due to, like, an injury or something because you know it's bringing that blood to the surface of the muscle where it may not be getting like efficient blood flow.
Speaker 2:So it just helps with like muscle recovery and that sort of thing and also just breaking up the tissue. So with Josh I've been doing a little bit on his thigh and around the knee just to like bring that blood to the surface Because, like you know, his ligament isn't getting a lot of blood supply.
Speaker 1:So just like bringing more, it helps, just bring more into that?
Speaker 2:yeah, and it's, you know, oxygenating oxygenating the muscle, bringing nutrients, all that good stuff, um. And also for, like maintenance, like people that just come in with like super, like tight muscles. You know, it almost like melts the muscle. I don't know how to explain it, but I can tell the difference whenever I cup it, that I go back in and it's just completely loosened up. So it's really for people that like just have really stubborn knots.
Speaker 1:It'd be good for you, Makes sense. Oh, so it'll like it'll help with knots and all that. So when you have people with knots in their back, you cup.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so is that just kind of? You have to wait a while after you cut.
Speaker 2:I think the way you use cups is kind of like personal preference. My technique is like I'll massage the muscle first, kind of like warm it up and stuff. Then I'll cup it just so it like breaks it up even more, and then I'll go back and like okay, I like it.
Speaker 1:What I like a little trifecta I like most about is that how she's done and you're still showing everybody the guns like I'm feeling good about it. I think she's done, I don't know, oh okay like typically I would.
Speaker 2:It just really depends on, like, what I'm working on um so does that like you don't?
Speaker 1:oh, I thought you had to like hook a machine up there to it to make it like different cups where you like has like a little. You already have a suction mark on there right. Look at that. Oh shoot, it did that fast um.
Speaker 2:So sometimes, like with josh, for example, like sometimes his traps are really tight, so I'll leave them on how much did you pay here?
Speaker 1:just say that.
Speaker 2:Say that one more time closer to the mic. Sometimes his traps are really tight.
Speaker 1:She said tight, not large. After a big workout there's a big difference between tight and large After my pump After a big workout. Sometimes they're tight.
Speaker 2:So yeah, when I first met Josh, he had troubles with like his lats and all that you know from like all that From tennis. So I would keep the cup on for a while or just break up and loosen up the shoe.
Speaker 1:How's it feel, Matt? I thought it would hurt. It actually feels good to get it.
Speaker 2:Some people love it, some people hate it.
Speaker 1:Bobby's been having a lot of headaches. If we put a cup right on his forehead and let it sit there for 10 minutes, will that help to remove the stress from his brain? Yeah, after which I want to do on my forehead. Yeah, no, still on your forehead first it's the least you can do for not falling dress good, yeah, she made me the new permanent guest, so I didn't know that you could move it around either. It feels kind of good doing that.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so typically sometimes people use, like, the glass cups and those are harder to run. They're a little more intense in terms of like the depth, but that's why I like the silicone cups, because I can actually move them around and like kind of do a different thing. Keep them still, or maybe how this feel it feels good.
Speaker 1:So what she'll do is after, like massaging the area. So if she's finishing while I'm laying on my stomach, she'll put, she'll put some on like my hamstring or my calf, yeah, and she'll rub it and then she'll sit there and then she'll go massage for a few minutes on my shoulder and come back and take it off yeah, yeah, because like his calves are also really tight ghost yeah, well, you're an athlete, world tight, not large. An athlete, big difference yes we're gonna see your face thank you, yes matt, how'd that feel?
Speaker 1:it felt nice, it was good, right. It makes me want to get a. Your face is a little red. I feel like it's just me worried it may get flushed from the blood flow. I'll go into the guns over here. I feel like I'm just a little heavy on this side a little now. It might be the nacho cheese that you had for lunch running over to that shoulder, not the blood flow.
Speaker 1:And then also there we go, not the blood flow, and then also I've been doing scraping with Josh because of his ACL surgery. That looks like brass knuckles and a shoehorn.
Speaker 2:Yeah, don't piss me.
Speaker 1:What is happening?
Speaker 2:So basically scraping again. It's just another way of like breaking up tissue um and breaking up you know, scar tissue too, especially with like um post-surgery stuff matt, do you have any scars that are easily?
Speaker 1:do you have any areas that are really bad right now, anything that's bothering you shoulder? No, I mean, we could do my, we could do my knee, if need be yeah, yeah, or I'm gonna show you kind of like what I would do um yeah, she doesn't want to do your knee yeah we can't. For Freya. He's trying to hit something for nothing.
Speaker 2:It's cold right now. Do you want some anti-inflammatory?
Speaker 1:So that scraping when, like I used to our kids used to do taekwondo and like those fighters would run like these sticks up and down their shins because it makes it strong Is that kind of the same thing it breaks down the or is that different? I think you may have been high at that time, I don't know. They like I know what you're talking about, but I didn't like it makes it more dense or something when they're yeah. Yeah, I think it's definitely different.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I don't think I'm super familiar with that. Yeah, I don't think I'm super familiar with that, but I know with scraping. It's like again. It's good for breaking up like scar tissue. But, the only difference really is like you're able to get more into like the joints and like spaces where you wouldn't be able to get into with like cupping, for example, and it's just like breaking up scar tissue scrape it with his knee.
Speaker 2:You know, sometimes I get in between those joints of his kneecap to break up the scar tissue from the incisions and all that. So really that's the biggest difference.
Speaker 1:And going back to the curating of the appointment, before my knee surgery, we hadn't done any scraping at all, so we would spend an hour and it would be cupping and massage and it's like, hey, I think we should do the scraping for your knee and we spent like 10 minutes on it. And I'm telling you, I get off the table and it's like, hey, I think we should do the scraping for your knee and we spent like 10 minutes on it. And I'm telling you, I get off the table and it's like the blood is like it's. It's such a different feeling and experience. So I get. I love the personalization and the way that you have different things that you can do based on what the needs are of the client yeah, and another thing that I feel like scraping does is like um, it helps with like the the length.
Speaker 2:So whenever are you guys familiar with your lymphatic system?
Speaker 1:I mean Rob is, I'm not sure Matt is. He saw it in Taekwondo once. I mean back when I used to cage fight, we talked about it a little bit. Right, he's like right okay.
Speaker 2:That did sound just as smooth as it was.
Speaker 1:I thought that was the cockfighting that you went to. Oh God, oh, I mean, some people call it that. Can we do some scraping on Matt's shoulder? Is there a way to demonstrate? So I have a scar here, but I don't know what it would do to the scar. That's just an old scar from a long time ago.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:It doesn't hurt, though, so I don't know that. Do your knee, let's see your knee health. We all want to see what's good. Yeah, I could move.
Speaker 2:That's what's cool about massage too Like there's so many benefits to it, like even with like scarring, like we can do something with the scarring right. So like whenever you bring, whenever you collagen production and, like you know, helps kind of renew those cells, like skin cells, so it can help with like reducing scars and, you know, obviously like reducing swelling and that type of thing so I don't know there's.
Speaker 2:That's why I love massages. There's like benefits from like just feeling relaxed. To, you know, injury recovery. To, like you know, acne sometimes you know that also helps with like because it's renewing your skin, samples, you know, with the collagen production and just like all the anti-inflammatory and benefits. So so is there, go ahead, sorry I was just gonna say there's literally, like you know, a type of massage for like all the issues so.
Speaker 1:So let's, let's say you're willing to spend the money on yourself. What is you as an expert? What would you say? Is it something that you should do weekly or every other week? Or what is in a perfect world, how often should someone get a massage?
Speaker 1:Because a lot of us once a year maybe, and we leave and we're like it's a great question, how often should someone get a massage?
Speaker 1:Because a lot of us, yeah, once a year maybe, and we leave and we're like it's amazing, right, but we don't get on a schedule.
Speaker 1:Like a haircut, you know, like you once you like get on which I still don't do that, but rob does and he loves it now. But but it like I think if people you know a lot of people don't know what you know the healing, but like what it can help you physically, well, I liked about a lot of us think it's just for fun, well, but, but to your point, you guys are both super busy, right? Yeah, um, if you say, hey, diana, come to my house every second week, third week, on a tuesday night at six and there's a massage for you and care for you, and and then she showed you don't have to go anywhere, you don't do anything other than be there. That's one of the things I like most about the travel service, but I, you know I get a massage when I'm on schedule and I'm not traveling every other wednesday, so I took that what you would recommend to someone, or yeah, so you said a few cool things that I want to touch on.
Speaker 1:Well, I do that a lot. Sorry I'm headspace.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's an explodingoding, no, so the first thing you were saying was like, you know, when you make time for yourself and that's kind of how I view massage and like really anything that's like good for your health, it's like, instead of viewing it as like spending money, it's more like an investment in your health. You know, and I know a lot of people still view massage as like a luxury thing, which to an extent, yes, it is because it's not the cheapest, you know investment but I do think it's like super beneficial and like once you feel like what your body should actually feel like whenever you're not so stressed and like not hurting.
Speaker 2:You're just like I could do this. Like you know, I can invest this in myself like makes sense.
Speaker 1:Well, and it's like it's it's. The difference is you could not go to dinner one night, and it's right, it's actually the same, or you know. But but like, how often would you recommend?
Speaker 2:that. Yeah, so most of my clients either come in bi-weekly or like monthly and it really just depends on, like, your schedule and your budget, right. So, like, how much can you actually put into getting a massage you?
Speaker 1:know what's the average cost, would you say um.
Speaker 2:So for my business, um, if you're looking at in clinic, it's 85 for 60 minutes and then 120 for 90 minutes which is very reasonable.
Speaker 1:I mean, yeah, I know that mark, that's pretty reasonable. And you think about what you spend that type of money on. Yeah, and you know, as we're getting older and the body is not the same and the stress levels go up and work and pressure and family, all the stuff, this is all fantastic and I, and when I'm done, I feel like I get up and like you're, it's, like the world is gone, like it's it's. I can't even explain the feeling of relaxation and I wish, like two weeks away oh, I'll see in two weeks you know, I wish it was happening again tomorrow.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but for a travel massage, um, of course, like because of the gas and all that stuff, um, it's one 20 for 60 minutes and a one 40 for 90 minutes, which you know some people might be like, oh that's a lot, but you know really as many people as I could you know, because I don't want to raise my prices to the point where like people can't afford to get them at all and I feel like travel massage is more catering to like business owners and people who just really cannot like make it into clinic.
Speaker 1:And you and I talk about this often like to for you to do travel because people will be listening to something. Oh, I want her to come to my house. Like you got to check people out. It'll be primarily referrals. Like you chatted with me a few times like, do you know this guy? I'm like I'm not so sure I know this guy, but do you want to be safe? Right, yeah, for yourself in an environment to show up at matt's house and like they'll be good for two hours and you know you're going to be able alive when you're done. But it's a scary world that we live in. If you're going to go to people's houses, you want to make sure that you set yourself up for success.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, I mean I've watched plenty of like murder documentaries, Like I know what's up, you know. So I'm not naive going into this.
Speaker 1:Yeah, like a lot of people were like travel massage, like you're gonna go see, like well, you don't know, and just like I get it like.
Speaker 2:But you know, thankfully I've met, you know, people like you who I feel safe with, like, yeah, or you can kind of network and right, and I always bet my clients like I have to see you in person, at least in clinic, at least once, before I even consider like going to your house or whatever.
Speaker 1:You know yeah unless it's one of us right right, right, unless it's like referred by someone feel like, feel like this could be a Christmas gift.
Speaker 1:No, I think I'm serious. I'll think about a second to go see Angie tomorrow or whenever your next availability is. But what's nice is what's kind of. But she'll give you two hours of time at the house, so Emily and I will be there, all right. Who's going to take the 515 appointment and then who's going to take the 615 appointment? Fantastic, it's two hours. It's great. It's both of you getting done a thrower of enmo and to see in two weeks.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, now I love I'm because the other thing that I'm leaning back I'm gonna get I know the other thing that that none of us think about is, you know it's it's hard sometimes to, if you have a really tight schedule, to go out and go somewhere, whereas if she can come to your house, that you know after work or later in the day, it's I don't know. I just think it's easier than having to get out. Well, I was supposed to have her yesterday, for example, and I canceled very far in advance that we need to reschedule it, because every other wednesday I was with you, you yahoos, last night at a, at an event down in Fayetteville, and so I missed my massage. But we're trying to reschedule it. But I feel it today like now I'm going to be two weeks plus and it's just like my body is used to to having this great experience, and now I'm like, all right, we'll figure some time out, which I think we have time mapped out for the next next week or so.
Speaker 1:Yeah, next week, oh, yeah, I think for you guys, for Christmas gift for the missus, I mean you guys, this would be a home run. Yeah, yeah, I mean we can't wait for you to invite her back to the gents club as well, too. Well, we can't do free stuff for you all the time, bob. We thought you had faith. You know I tip off. Yes, you do tip off. You're a good tipper.
Speaker 2:Generous. I know men sometimes are like oh, I don't need a massage, like fine oh, I'd love a good massage.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I know I'm not gonna lie. When's the last time you had a massage six months a year? Yeah, probably six or eight months ago. But again, I didn't ever look at it the way that you know. You're kind of informed, you're telling us, educating us. I didn't. I never looked at it like it's kind of a maintenance, like to me it's always just been when Carrie and I go on vacation or something, let's go get some, when normal life's happening. A lot of times you don't think to do that kind of stuff?
Speaker 2:Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1:That's why, again, going back to your point, like you have to set aside that time, you know like, and I mean all of us say, well, you know we don't have time, but you have time for what you want to do. Well, I mean, let's be honest, well, this is the only deal. Make time. Well, because this we started maybe a year ago and I love massage and it's again, it's my like thing for stress relief and all those other things when you need it. And it was I'd go every six months. I just wouldn't schedule it.
Speaker 1:And now, like I found somebody and, by the way, I'm very particular because when you have massage and it's like this, really like I don't need this right I need to work the muscle right, yeah, so when I find somebody say, all right, now I want to get myself on a regular regimen, and then it'll be this two weeks and text and venmo, and it's probably the best thing I've done for my mental and physical well-being in the last two years, there you go. She didn't prevent any injury but you seem better. But you can tell I'm stressed today because it's been. You know, I haven't seen her in a couple weeks. Yeah, yeah, probably why you were yelling at Rob earlier, probably not wearing the right clothes. Well, I wasn't yelling, but I was quite upset that he didn't follow, follow in his direction. Well, you, I thought you were just busting chops. So what's the best way for everyone to get in touch with you?
Speaker 2:Yeah, so you can go to my Facebook page. It's called Body Balance Massage. I have my website link on the About page and then also my phone number, so if you have issues with booking, you can always shoot me a text.
Speaker 1:Don't call her, please. Facebook.
Speaker 2:Facebook or shoot me a text if you're having issues. Really, that's like the most efficient way. Like I don't like to overcomplicate stuff, I just go to the website. It's pretty self-explanatory, but of course, my phone number is plastered everywhere. So for business purposes, it's plastered everywhere.
Speaker 1:Much better, because Matt will be like hey, how are you? What's going on? I'm old, what's going on? I don't text. We need to talk on the phone, so we make sure we're all good. What'd you think of my red eye today, Gary? Did you like it? Call me later. Bye, that's not the purpose of the phone number. I need to get my right shoulder cupped. I'm a little off balance now, although I do like the red hat, though. What does that stand for? H-i-i-h. What is that? International harvester Sounds like kind of a tractor. Shout out to the. Yeah, my great grandpa used to own an international dealer. There it is. It almost looks like an iron man.
Speaker 1:You know what he always told everyone the only piece of equipment he wouldn't stand behind was a shit spreader. Every other one he said, was that like a bump up.
Speaker 2:We're all like Is that a farmer joke? Diana, we're putting you on the spot.
Speaker 1:We always like to have some fun with our guests. Can you give us like a fun, interesting you-can't-believe-this-kind-of-story-for-massage, pg-13, not the name, but anything that you've experienced? You guys have got to hear this story Kind of like Matt's story before Anything good. Well, while you're thinking that I'll tell you my massage story and I know I've told you this and I think I told you guys this last night when I was in aruba, emily and I were getting massages and it was coming right out of covid and I was getting a massage from this lady totally naked me not her, of course, like you show clarifying and she walked away to the table to get some lotion and for like a minute like she was nowhere to be found. And I turned to look at her and she was starting to pass out. So she started falling and now I'm naked under the under the thing. So I'm like do I get up and help her? Do I not get up and help her? So she fell. I did get up and help her, fully naked, and then she was totally passed out. So then I threw on sweatpants and I'm running through this like five star resort. I'm like I think she's dead, I think the massage girl is dead.
Speaker 1:And they're looking at me at the front and I'm like what the hell's wrong with you? What'd you do to her? So they come running back at me True story and she was out, out, out, out, out, out, out, out, out out, wow. So they're looking at me and I'm like so it turned out that they ended up put her in the ambulance and take her out. Well, they found out later that she was pregnant. She didn't know, and so she wasn't nourished as well. Well, keep the story going um, emily and I had planned the massage at the same time. So she gets out and they're like excuse me, miss saffron, there's an emergency and we had an ambulance for your husband in the massage room. She's like is everything okay? I'm like he's okay.
Speaker 2:I wish I'd all passed out. Not a way to start that.
Speaker 1:Then she's like happy, and all of a sudden she goes, but we put him in another room and he's going to be another 45 minutes because we started him over and I had the only key to get back in the hotel room. So now, carrie, you wheeled off the massage therapist. It was a disaster. I have a good story, can I tell one to you? Yes, so Carrie and I go to this massage and it was a really nice one where you were and we got all done and you get done at some of those and they have a steam room and a shower and all that.
Speaker 1:Like we got done and like I went, I was like, oh, I'll see you when, when we get out. So we went in there and I was like I lost track of time, I guess. I I went and sat in the steam room for like 20 minutes and then I took a shower and I came out and carrie's like where the hell have you been? And I was like I was using, was using the steam room and the shower and stuff, and she's like I've been sitting out there. You slept on the couch that night. Yeah, I did. It was a bad deal. So anything that.
Speaker 2:So yeah, Trying to like go through the files.
Speaker 1:I mean, it can't be as good as you have to be good ones about. Josh that's what weird real name. The dogs tend to jump on the massage table at the house. Yeah, they love to join during the massage. I don't want to hear what they're licking or anything. Keep it PG-13. Yeah, that'll be edited out. Yeah, that's not going to be part of it anyway. Yeah, wow, cut him off from the old granddad. We should have had her at five o'clock instead of three. After a few cocktails, oh, it would have been better.
Speaker 2:Would have been better that would have been funny but she's still amazing. Oh, of course, all right, we're not gonna put any pressure on you for a story no, I was just gonna say, um, there was one time, um, this guy, he's very like serious and whatnot, very like stoic and clearly not us, huh clearly not us no, um, and like I was working on his hamstrings and he I guess he was like drifting, you know asleep, and he just like farted, gets really relaxed, yeah, and he just farts.
Speaker 2:Yes, he's mortified and he's like I'm so sorry, you know, he's super serious and that happens and I'm just like she's back there, right.
Speaker 1:It probably happens a lot, though it does.
Speaker 2:Especially when I'm working on people's hamstrings. He's setting himself up for Christmas time.
Speaker 1:It happens all the time. It probably happens all the time you're foreshadowing what's gonna happen yeah, I'm gonna skip labroso sprouts the night before. No beans, no brussels. So were you laughing or were you just like oh my god, this is of course to myself, but like yeah, it's okay.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I was. I didn't say anything, so I was like you, just like oh my God, this is a Of course to myself, but like yeah it's okay. Yeah, I didn't say anything.
Speaker 1:You're like oh my God, he definitely ate beans before this and stinks. That was amazing.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and then he didn't say anything. He's just like I'm so sorry.
Speaker 1:I hope you got a good tip that night.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it was good, but I just never saw him again. I and I was just like poor guy, he was so embarrassed. Yeah, he was super embarrassed. And then, yeah, whenever I started working at you know, the sports clinic guess who shows up?
Speaker 1:Farhan. Oh, he must have been totally mortified.
Speaker 2:I was like there you go.
Speaker 1:Did he go in with you? No, oh my gosh, but he has to be thinking at that point she's totally telling all her friends Bob came for a massage today and he farted and it was horrible. But Bob's Facebook profile, that was one of those things. You just have to laugh about it and move on.
Speaker 2:No, yeah, I'm like it's whatever. You were just falling asleep. That's amazing, relaxed.
Speaker 1:You have an excuse now. You have an out On what If you happen to fart during your massage. Nobody would be upset. I don't think that would happen, josh. But you never know when you're in the comfort zone right or if at ease, where you lose a lot of those functions. I also have another one, but I don't know if this is a big. We'll edit it out if we need to.
Speaker 2:Okay, okay, there was this 80-year-old man that came in and he's just like why are you looking?
Speaker 1:at me I'm not close to eating. Oh my gosh, I mean you're the one.
Speaker 2:Yes um by far and like this poor thing, like you can barely hear, like you know, he's just like so, anyway, I'm telling him like okay, just like, um, just down to whatever you're comfy with, just get rid of the sheet, I'll be right back. And he's like, okay, um, then I, I knock on the door and I I'm like you ready. And he's like, yeah, I walk in. And he's just like on the edge of the table, just like sitting Butt naked.
Speaker 2:Butt naked, you know. Well, he was comfortable and he was 80. And I'm just like, oh, I was like no, under the sheets, and he was like under, and I'm like yeah, and he's like under the sheet and I'm like under the fucking sheet.
Speaker 1:Hey, let me see your head, didn't hear?
Speaker 2:you, and that's amazing so I think that was so like yes, please do not sit at the end of the table.
Speaker 1:I would say I mean, I'm gonna. What do you say I? I just don't understand why you would be fully naked for a massage. I'm fully naked, I mean. Why Just leave your boxers on or your? You know your tidy wires.
Speaker 2:I mean being fully naked under the sheet isn't a problem, I know, but I mean Are you fully naked during your massage?
Speaker 1:Yeah Well, because I don't think they massage your butt as good if you have your underwear.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Like it's in the way, yeah, like I've never had my butt massaged, so no, the glutes are always tight. Yeah, the it bands if you sit a lot, your glutes are gonna be tight, so you're gonna have to go full commando and she goes oh geez if you have lower back pain, your glutes are probably tight yeah, I don't have lower back pain.
Speaker 1:Your glutes are probably tight. Yeah, I don't have lower back pain and my back's good again. It's amazing, right, just like that. Just amazing, amazing. We're still going to schedule you. Okay, promise, yeah, 100%. He's not super reliable. I'll have to help him, but just be aware, I told you the order was coming. It just got delivered. I'll show you a picture.
Speaker 2:What Like six months later?
Speaker 1:Yeah, it took forever. It's not true. I told you there was a big order coming and we, you know it's probably. I'm not going to say what I want to say, but Say it. Yeah, it's good that. Everything okay on the text. You moved on you. Good on the text. No, I'm trying to find her picture. Calm down, josh. Good on this extra. No, I'm trying to find her. The picture. Calmed down, josh. He's so mad he can't find her right now. He's embarrassed. So this is oh, I told you the order was coming. Well, she's quit that job. How many months ago now? Oh, like probably a year. Well, it hasn't been a year. Maybe I wasn't there very long, I'll see. Last time we chatted about the stones, yeah, about six months. So, okay, one last question I have, just because it's the rob usually asked it. But so do you do like a deal where people can pre-buy a certain amount or this, like, do you pay for the year or do you just pay each time? I mean, I pay each time, okay, um, but you do have a new promo that you're working out for folks that are coming to see you for the first time yeah, um, so for the holidays I was doing it from december to the end of january, so it's 25 off for new clients and then it's 50 offer matt likes a deal, so say it one more time 25 off for your first time and then 50% off for repeat clients, just because I'm like yeah that's awesome so
Speaker 1:she came to my house the other day she goes you're massaging me, I just pay the bill. I don't even pay attention, I don't even know what I'm being charged, I just pay the same amount. Of time she goes yeah, I'm going to give you that same discount as everybody else and I'm like, well, you just make it up in your tip, but it's good to be doing that this time of season when you try to build your brand and your business. I mean 25% off the first massage is great, yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and then we're going to get on the schedule here in a second. Yeah, and you know, I feel like 50% off is a pretty good amount for Solid, for repeat, that's huge.
Speaker 1:Yeah, just because I'm like so you'll book the first time at 25% off and the next one you do 50% off. I'm a return client, chunks? Well, it doesn't work that way. You're a free customer, you're not a thank you customer. You'll give it to me, right?
Speaker 2:We can talk.
Speaker 1:Negotiate. He's a great tipper, though, man, he's a great tipper. Generous Matt's a good tipper, he's a great tipper. I had to pay $200 tip last night for a driver in a car. I said $200 total. Oh, that's another day, another podcast another story. Yeah, so basically you gave a massage away. Yeah, yeah, fun, josh came out last night. Oh yeah yeah, we had a good time last night. We had a good time, all right. So the name of the website, how people can find you. Read it out one more time.
Speaker 2:Yeah, facebook. Body Balance Massage. The link to my website is on there. Phone number Only text me, please, don't call. Don't call.
Speaker 1:Yeah, those are the places to find me face, body balance, body balance massage on facebook. Great, great christmas gift. Yeah, right, yeah, if you're not a text or call, like me, but everyone else text. Hey, diana, you did a great job on the podcast today. What do you think of my left shoulder? That's really good. By the way, can I get a massage here? We're like, yeah, we seem to have a problem. Click, go through a dead zone.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, I do get people sometimes call me and they're like, which type of massage should I get? I'm just like, well, the descriptions are there, but I can go through the description.
Speaker 1:Well, these guys don't read very well either, so you'll have to go through that with them.
Speaker 2:Okay, so do you guys know what Swedish massage is? Yeah, do you guys know what?
Speaker 1:Swedish massage is yeah, it's a little deeper, but do you just wait until you get there to do that, or do you want to know ahead of time?
Speaker 2:So typically how it goes is like if they book online, they'll get an intake form and they fill that out, and then I kind of have an idea of, like what's going on, so I can kind of like prepare, like okay, I'm going to do this, nice. But for like in homes, homes I typically show up and just kind of get an idea as I'm there.
Speaker 1:With a consultation in advance, which is perfect yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and just because I want to, my thing is like I want a problem solved, like if I have a problem to solve.
Speaker 1:I'm like, okay yeah, we got a good one for you, okay yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah. So with Swedish, like the problem that you're solving there is just if you're stressed, you know, like that's really more like the nervous system regulation. I'm never going to do fluff Like I don't like that, like you're going to get some sort of like depth to it. But Swedish is more like relaxation. So, if you're stressed high, strung you just want to like melt into the table for a little bit. Carrie likes like the deep tissue one where you've heard the next day, but she loves that. Yeah, no, you've got.
Speaker 1:Or like drink a bunch of water because it relieves the time?
Speaker 2:Yes, exactly, she taught me about talks.
Speaker 1:It's not my first barbecue, josh. I'm impressed, I'm impressed.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so deep tissue, like you said, it's slower, deeper and just like really breaking up that um, tight tissue, um. And then you've got sports massage, which is like a mix of doesn't pertain to either.
Speaker 1:They said I'm after no athlete I didn't even know that was. What sport do you play? Which one do you get?
Speaker 2:you do more like it really depends like a hybrid. She creates her own for me I mean it's like a deep Swedish sport Mine's called the Josh.
Speaker 1:It's the Josh. I don't know if you guys have heard of it. It's one of a kind, yeah, custom curated design of a kind.
Speaker 2:With like sports massage. It's more like stretching and like helping with like mobility and flexibility, that type of thing yeah well, you're an athlete.
Speaker 1:Sometimes you have to craft your own types of massage. You're athlete, sometimes you have to craft your own types of massage.
Speaker 2:You're probably telling yourself that all right, I do, I need to, yeah. And then you get more into like the medical massage with like prenatal I guess, yeah, prenatal can be considered medical um. But then you have like your lymphatic massage, which is like um clearing out toxins in your body, like that's like your body's natural um you got a lot of toxins in your body.
Speaker 2:Toxifying system. But massage really helps stimulate lymph and that's why we say like, drink lots of water, because your kidneys are going to be filtering that stuff so you need to flush it out, because sometimes people feel kind of sick after massage and it's because they're not drinking enough water and that excess waste is like stuck in your body.
Speaker 1:I wonder if you go for a massage and then you go for IV therapy right after. That's a good idea I love. Iv therapy.
Speaker 2:I've never done it, but so good.
Speaker 1:That's another thing that you've done in some care. Yeah, great, yeah, great for you. Thank you so much for coming in. This was very insightful. The brick and mortar your location when you're working is where Is it on Walton?
Speaker 2:Yes, the brick and mortar your location when you're working is where Is it on Walton? It's on Southeast Walton. Yes, inside of Graceful Beauty. But my body balance massage business is inside.
Speaker 1:That's for the rest of us that like to eat. That's across from Krispy Kreme, right.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:So I don't know if this is Krispy Kreme. We all know where that is on Walton. Yeah, anthony, right, right by Isabella's. Yes, so across the street when we're supposed to go for dinner that Matt's not going to now I guess that place, whatever I might go, gary, can't go. Well, if you need a date, I mean could make it happen, figure it out. Yeah, you get some cupping at the table. Mm-hmm, she always wanted me to work. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 1:Appreciate all that you do. Thank you for helping with my knee. Yeah, I'll see you next week. See you next week. Cheers, cheers, cheers.
Speaker 2:Cute, cute.
