The B Team Podcast
Ep. 61 - Bourbon, Charity, and Community: A Special B-Team Podcast Episode
In this lively and heartfelt episode of the B-Team Podcast, hosts Josh Saffran, Matt Marrs, and permanent guest Rob Nelson shake things up with a celebration of generosity, community, and, of course, bourbon. This week, they are joined by special guests Lisa Brewer and Gina Koch, who earned their spot on the show through a charity auction at the Gentsgiving event. Normally centered around bourbon and business in Bentonville, today's episode focuses on the incredible success of their recent fundraiser, which raised an astounding $100,000 for the Cancer Society and veterans' organizations.
Listeners get a behind-the-scenes look at the Gentsgiving event, a traditionally male-focused bourbon night that evolved this year to welcome more women - leading to a richer, more inclusive experience. Lisa and Gina share how their feedback from previous years shaped the event, including the addition of wine selections and plans for future auction items aimed at female attendees. The conversation highlights how small changes can create a big impact in community fundraising and charity engagement.
Of course, no B-Team episode would be complete without some lighthearted ribbing and fun discussions. The crew dives into hilarious stories about vacations, bourbon room designs, pink wine rooms, and extravagant ideas for next year’s charity auction - including luxury trips, spa packages, and high-end fashion accessories. The episode perfectly captures the spirit of the B-Team: blending bourbon-fueled camaraderie with meaningful charitable work.
In between the laughter and storytelling, there’s a genuine celebration of friendship, community building, and giving back. Listeners will hear about heartwarming personal stories, like Lisa’s and Gina’s adopted friendships in Mexico, and the fun chaos that ensues when passionate people rally behind a great cause. Whether you're a bourbon enthusiast, a charity supporter, or someone who loves good conversation, this episode is packed with entertaining and inspiring moments.
Join us for a heartwarming and hilarious ride through Bentonville’s best charity night, bourbon rooms, pink wine rooms, and more.
Welcome to the B-Team Podcast. I am your host, josh Saffron, with my co-host, matt Morris, and our permanent guest, rob Nelson. We're here every week to talk to you about all things Bentonville, bourbon and business the B-Team Podcast Be here. Welcome to the B-Team Podcast. I'm your host, josh Saffron, with my permanent guest.
Speaker 2:Rob Nelson and our co-host Matt Morris.
Speaker 1:And we're here every Thursday for all things business, Bentonville and bourbon. But today we're not talking business. We got beauties right. Beautiful women right. Yeah, I had to change that up a little bit. I was thinking of the right bee. Yeah, beauties is the right thing to say. Right, we don't have bourbons, we're not bourbon today we got switched up.
Speaker 2:We got some of the damsel. It's called some rosé. This is one of your finer ones that you have at home. This is uh.
Speaker 1:Well, this is lisa requested that we get some rosé for now, lisa, just to be clear, we never provide anything special for the guests, so you must be special, because normally we're drinking bourbon. He's special, that's right.
Speaker 3:Dance to him to stress.
Speaker 2:I'll fill yours first.
Speaker 1:Also, very generous, he always takes care of himself first. Yeah, who is this guy? Who is?
Speaker 2:this guy's right, I mean, and for our other guests, gina, who's with us today. So today is going to be a little different. Well, that's a pour. Yeah, that's like we have. I mean, they don't like to be up. I'm going to take care of myself here.
Speaker 1:So we're not featuring a business today. This is an interesting episode. I think we should do the whole backstory. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but normally somebody comes in and they're pitching their business. Right, right, we did our gents giving event. Shout out to emily yep. Shout out to the, the charity fundraiser in november yep. And these lovely young ladies bid on being on our podcast. Yeah, right, and we raised a bunch of money, a bunch of money so thank you for your generosity cheers.
Speaker 2:It was a great event that's why we had to break into the vault for this rose egg and then we said what are we going to talk about? I don't know, but we'll figure it out it's like we're all out on a Friday night at dinner. Anyway, I figured we'd just bust some chops right off the bat. Let's talk about the event. It was a great event. We were raising a bunch of money for the cancer, the cancer, the cancer society. Not can't. We got a can't paint can't, yeah.
Speaker 1:And veterans yeah, we raised a hundred thousand dollars. Net that night, net that night, yeah, which was amazing. We split it between the two charities, yep and, and both of your husbands and you guys fantastic, you guys come to the event every year and you guys help us raise a lot of money. So thank you for your generosity.
Speaker 2:Coke family and the brewer family like they couldn't be happier to have you guys as part of our events and I figured we just kind of opened up and put you on the spot and be like. You know, this was the first year out of what. This was year three, year three, and this was first year we had a lot of wives and females there. Usually it's like a guy's bourbon event, right, yep, but it really brought it to a whole nother level. So I figured, you know, maybe you give josh some feedback on for next year. Oh, what would you like?
Speaker 1:to see. Start with a positive sandwich like what did you like before? You do like a rob and matt hit me over the head I'll start with this.
Speaker 4:So this was was the second time for Gina and I to attend. Ah, okay so we attended the year before. A lot of perspective With our husbands and it was definitely a dude event, yep.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and you provided feedback.
Speaker 4:I did, I provided feedback.
Speaker 1:Saying what?
Speaker 4:Because there was no wine, correct?
Speaker 1:There was only bourbon, and then I would give it to my husband. To finish, shout out to Michael.
Speaker 4:So I was really pleased to see that you took the feedback this year and there was lots of wine to enjoy and to drink and it was just a beautiful event the venue, the food, the items to bid on like this podcast fun, it was a really great event.
Speaker 1:And shout out to Mike Hodges because the location was great at the Hodges Barn but we noticed a lot more people felt comfortable bringing their spouses this year.
Speaker 4:Yes, there were a lot of women.
Speaker 1:Dave brought Jenny right, angie came for the first time, carrie came for the first time Everybody had a good time.
Speaker 2:Well, I think it's as it continues to grow. We keep on saying like, oh, it's such a great time, it's such a great time. People are talking about it, and then, of course, you know, the wives want to come. Why wouldn't we want to? You know, it just makes it better.
Speaker 1:Well, part of it, they were making sure there's no shenanigans going on. You know that this is a real event.
Speaker 2:We're raising money casino actually.
Speaker 1:So half of it was checking up to make sure it was above reproach.
Speaker 4:And since you had such a great turnout of women, I think for next year you need to have some auction items that speak to the women.
Speaker 1:So see, I have to ask your feedback in advance, because we already heard that from you and we're already working on having purses or shoes or some sort of look at the eyes, some kind of something, cause there was, it was very dude, centric on the. You have the bourbon tasting and stuff.
Speaker 3:So yes, I, don't know, I got a nice table on it.
Speaker 1:Two years. Well, you've bought stuff from from Dave and Jenny both years, right, yeah? So whatever Dave does this year, they're just going to bid on it like it can be like poop in a bag, like hey, it's david jedi poop in a bag.
Speaker 2:Five million dollars, maybe this year. Yeah, I just need to ask gina, it's not only fans, that's, that'd be great yeah, we'll price it up. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, so yeah, I think, purses or, like you know, some shoes or spa, yeah uh, can you procure some of these things?
Speaker 4:or like, like a closet organizer, you know, you know the organizer people have oh, that's a great idea.
Speaker 2:That's a good one. That's a great idea.
Speaker 4:Yes because every woman needs help with that.
Speaker 1:You know what we should do, bobby? Like pretend we're not saying this out loud. This is like you and I talking on air Like say they're not here. We should go to Chinatown in New York and get like it's an authentic. Oh no, I can stop, yeah.
Speaker 2:Be careful, yeah, but if we have like two, or three bottles of wine in you.
Speaker 1:You won't know the difference at the moment. Yeah, at the moment.
Speaker 4:Maybe not at the moment, but when I wake up the next day.
Speaker 1:And you know who'll get the feedback. I'll be calling Josh. Yes, I'll get the feedback.
Speaker 2:Exactly, yeah, I don't want no part of that. A few businesses in town that does some stuff with some purses and shoes and some high-end accessories maybe we get involved maybe we get the blakeman group to put it together some kind of yeah yeah, purple bag, maybe like a mystery purple bag wouldn't that be nice? Yeah, that would be amazing.
Speaker 4:Maybe some david yerman yeah what do you think I like it?
Speaker 1:you like that, emily, if you're listening. We got feedback for you already. Yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah, we already got our first meeting handled. Emily didn't even attend.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I'll get feedback from her. The feedback goes downhill. I like it yeah.
Speaker 4:Anything you want to see next year.
Speaker 3:I love jewelry. Oh my God, I'd love to see some jewelry.
Speaker 1:Anything in particular.
Speaker 3:I am baskets of wine, anything, in particular high end baskets of wine that's a good one that is a good one.
Speaker 1:You got a nice wine collection at the house. We could donate some good bottles of wine as a tax write off trip to Napa yeah, trip to Napa would be nice.
Speaker 2:That would be good. I'd love to get a trip to Big Cedar that would be fun trip to Big Cedar because they got a great, great dinners, bars, restaurants, wine rooms. I think that would be fun. Trip to Big Cedar because they got a great dinner bars, restaurants, wine room. I think that would be really nice. Nice package, bob.
Speaker 4:That's what she said, you are going to raise so much money next year.
Speaker 1:Yeah, can we go backwards a year, though, too, because before you guys won this, the year before you guys won a big trip to Bimini.
Speaker 4:We did.
Speaker 1:Which was epic right.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that was a fun trip. That was epic, yes. Yes, it doesn't feel like it's been that long ago though Two years in April. Time flies when you're having fun.
Speaker 4:No a year. It'll be a year in April.
Speaker 2:That was when I figured out that I would be good in the hospitality business. I mean Bart helped take care of everyone, bart did, but not in a good way.
Speaker 3:I think somebody beat you when they had to jump off the boat and swim after my hat that flew off.
Speaker 2:Was that Todd? I don't even remember that. So what does Michael and Tim think about you all doing the podcast today?
Speaker 4:You know Michael was so supportive and encouraging, like he literally.
Speaker 2:Because Michael's been on here before.
Speaker 4:Yes, he's been on here before, talk about the history of Bittenville. But he literally sent me a laundry list of topics that you could talk about. Let's pull up the list.
Speaker 1:Do you have the list?
Speaker 4:with you. Yeah, let's talk.
Speaker 1:It's on my phone. Oh, go get it, because I'm yeah, I'm sure michael told you what to say and what not to say yeah, it'll be fun just to hear michael's list. Now, gina, what? What feedback you get from tim any?
Speaker 3:have fun yeah, have fun, you know how to speak, so he's like just be you.
Speaker 2:Yeah, well, I could, I could tell michael he was. He was, you know, worried about her a little because he texted all of us and he's she's really nervous and I was like she speaks in front of a lot more people than we do all the time.
Speaker 3:Tim just said good luck.
Speaker 1:I don't even think Tim knew about it, because I texted him yesterday. I go hey, gina's podcasting tomorrow. He's like I don't know.
Speaker 3:I told him today.
Speaker 1:So let's hear what's on the list.
Speaker 4:Yeah, I on the list, yeah, I want to hear this, I mean it is long.
Speaker 2:All right, let's go through this if I well pick out your favorite, let's see, oh yeah, just kind of yeah. Let's see, give us some good ones. Holy cow, you keep on scrolling I know I don't look, yes
Speaker 4:got health and well yeah, it's like health and wellness with this group relationships and community. Uh, career, who sent this to you?
Speaker 2:my husband did michael brewer yes, michael brewer I mean we started every side of michael too, when he was on the podcast he had the serious tone, you know.
Speaker 4:Yeah, you couldn't.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 4:You know. So he gave me all this like serious stuff.
Speaker 2:What's like the craziest one Legacy and impact. Legacy and impact.
Speaker 1:Well, he doesn't realize. It's the B-Team podcast. We don't do a lot of serious stuff here.
Speaker 2:Well, but to be fair, we did tell you guys that this is your 45 minutes to talk about what you want, so we've kind of pirated the beginning. Yeah, if you guys have something you want to talk about.
Speaker 4:As much as I love his laundry list that he sent me, it was all a little on the serious side. Yeah, and you want to have fun here.
Speaker 1:I want to have fun. Yeah, Like I want to talk about that jacket, Like let's just get into the pink because wearing and can you show the boots too?
Speaker 4:yeah, I'm going to show uh, lift it.
Speaker 1:Whoa, those are nice so I love pink tell mike we talked about your boots today. When he asked what we talked about, we got rid of that. Listen right to the boots. Yeah, my boots.
Speaker 4:So I love pink, love fashion. Um, I'm actually building a house and we'll have a pink wine room in my house.
Speaker 1:Did Michael have any say in that or no?
Speaker 4:With a pink toilet. Yes, I have a pink toilet Hold on hold on Hold.
Speaker 1:on hold on A pink toilet.
Speaker 4:Yes, a pink toilet and a pink sink in my wine room.
Speaker 1:So, as builders, where do you go out and find a pink toilet and a pink sink? Any idea?
Speaker 2:I've never had a source, one of those but we are going to do some pink floors as well Pink floors.
Speaker 1:I can't wait.
Speaker 4:Yeah, we may have to come film the podcast down there.
Speaker 2:That would be really cool. That would be fun. Where did you find the pink toilet?
Speaker 4:At a supplier here in town.
Speaker 2:Okay, I guess. I mean it's only time and money, right, you could order and find anything you want, yeah.
Speaker 1:I'm sure I was just sitting there in the back collecting dust. Somebody probably ordered it for like a strip club 10 years ago. It's been sitting here.
Speaker 2:But you say that and and I know you guys will do a great job, like if you, if it's put together, yeah, it's gonna look so good like we painted Carrie's that. We painted her office pink and she absolutely loves it, like hers. You almost had to put sunglasses on to go in there because it's so bright in there, isn't Angie's?
Speaker 1:new office pink yeah, Angie's new and.
Speaker 2:Angie's office is super pink as well. She's got her rosé all day.
Speaker 1:Now is it a Barbie thing, or you guys have always been a pink fan.
Speaker 4:I haven't always been a pink fan.
Speaker 1:I think it really has been since Barbie.
Speaker 2:Now you started wearing more pink, since Barbie too no, I mean not that I know of it looks like you do.
Speaker 1:Well, you know I love pink. Hopefully I get the pink toot or shout out to Ben Blakeman if he's watching. That's what I'm going for.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 4:It just seemed to become such a hot color from that movie. You said I love fashion, so there's lots of cool things in pink.
Speaker 2:We just ordered pink Nikes. Have you opened yours up yet?
Speaker 1:No, not yet.
Speaker 4:Michael just got a pair.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yes, he got the pink, he got the Air Force Ones.
Speaker 2:We'll be like bros, we'll do one box. We'll see who opens it first, tim or Bobby. We need Matt to get a pair. They were all out of them, or I would have gotten them.
Speaker 1:They still have some in size 11. They were fresh out.
Speaker 2:Matt's afraid to you know.
Speaker 4:Afraid to venture out of here, I'm not afraid.
Speaker 1:You have a house full of women If you dropped a pink Air Force One.
Speaker 2:I'm just not a big Air Force One fan, but I like them.
Speaker 4:But you would wear pink shoes.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you would. I have a pair of pink shoes I'm going to have to gift you now. Yeah, we're the same size. I mean, I've been waiting Perfect. And I've been and Not to sound weird, but I've been in Josh's closet because he has 4,000 pairs of shoes in there. That did sound weird right and Josh 100% needs the closet place to come to the auction so he can buy it and to organize it, because Emily has this much space because he has 50 shoe boxes in there.
Speaker 1:This podcast was not supposed to be about me. This was supposed to be about Lisa and Gina. This is not the time to talk about my terrible shoe habit.
Speaker 3:Lisa can relate because Michael's the same.
Speaker 1:Michael has a lot of clothes, a lot of shoes, a lot of shoes, a lot of shoes that's me, yeah.
Speaker 4:Shoes and coats Shoes that he hasn't ever even worn, but he had to have.
Speaker 1:Had to have From Hubbard's there had to have them From Hubbard's.
Speaker 4:There is a pair from Hubbard's sitting in the box that he's never worn.
Speaker 1:Probably cost like five grand. Shout out to Hubbard's yes.
Speaker 2:Oh Donnie, oh Donnie.
Speaker 1:They're comfortable though. Those shoes, you have a pair from Hubbard's too, Mm-hmm, but you probably got them at the 75% off discount sale.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I have some that I didn't get there, but I have something that I got there. So I missed my pair of sneakers today, the salt, the sole spot falling off. Which shoes? The ones I have on right now and just like you've had those for five years and you wear them to work almost every day, I think it's time for a new pair of work shoes. Well, I mean, you could probably have less. You can wear those pink ones now not to work sure you can.
Speaker 1:But one day less at heirloom is another day that you can get shoes, because that's true. Right, have you guys been to heirloom?
Speaker 4:yet no, but it's on my list yeah, yeah bobby knows the owner.
Speaker 2:Now it is oh, bobby knows the owner. You have to get them on to the podcast. It's good they change the menu once a month. It's great date. Yeah, we should all go, it'd be fun. Well, you would have to be able to get a reservation. Yeah, yeah, I could try. Matt's got the inn as well too. Go for it. Yeah, it's a good place.
Speaker 1:Can we talk about Walmart a little bit and you guys working? Are you guys at the new campus just yet? I am, you are, yes, and do you love it? Yes, and do you love it.
Speaker 3:Yes, love it, everybody loves it. Nothing, really, but positive feedback. We're having a sculpture of a dog and they're doing the grand opening of the sculpture.
Speaker 1:Wait, wait. Grand opening of a sculpture.
Speaker 3:Yeah, they're like doing a presentation.
Speaker 1:They're just partying for the sake of partying over there.
Speaker 2:Yes, well, I'll tell you what, Now that 8th Street's open all the way through, you drive through there and the energy is unbelievable. As you're driving through on 8th, there's people on their bikes and walking and on the corners. I mean it feels like New York City. That's the kind of energy just driving through, Never mind.
Speaker 1:I mean, I haven't walked it or anything, but I heard like once you get off, the main roads.
Speaker 3:Is there any question that he hasn't walked it? I? Mean not even a question like um for saint patrick's you're a smart ass, josh. Oh, okay, and they're gonna have dog treats and people treats on friday for the unveiling of the dog sculpture where is the dog sculpture relation, everything for eighth and plate for me.
Speaker 1:Where is it?
Speaker 3:where's so um?
Speaker 2:our building is called old roy I know, so is it's old roy.
Speaker 3:The dog is old roy yeah, so they've got dog tags. You can put the name of your dog like submit them and then they make dog tags and it's all over the steps right like on the.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's super cool. Yeah, I had a chance to tour that building. It's really well done.
Speaker 3:So they're doing lots of fun things just to kind of keep the energy going. There's usually always Scooby Snacks.
Speaker 1:Yeah, for adults.
Speaker 2:Yes, let me get.
Speaker 1:Scooby.
Speaker 2:Let me get Scooby Snacks, scooby-dooby-doo.
Speaker 4:So I move into my building March 31st.
Speaker 1:Oh, that's quick. And I'll be in the hula building. So I'm thinking you know hula hoop. Yeah, now the hula building. Is that from when Sam was on Wall Street and did the hula dance? Oh, that's cool.
Speaker 4:They got great names for the buildings yeah, so I can't wait to see what that building looks like. You know how they've decorated it and kind of what the vibe will be um in there. But I've been with Walmart for 28 years so I have been in the main home office with no windows and I was thinking about it. I'm like I've literally been in this building for 28 years and never had windows. I'm a little nervous about going to a building surrounded by windows nervous why?
Speaker 4:because I'm used to not knowing what it's like outside, because I don't leave the building and I may just get distracted a lot.
Speaker 3:We do get distracted. They had this cool little machine that was doing the sidewalks when it snowed. They have a what's that thing called?
Speaker 2:The drone.
Speaker 3:Drone. It washes the windows.
Speaker 2:I'd be good. What's the name of that game?
Speaker 3:That was good. What's the?
Speaker 2:name of that game. That was good.
Speaker 3:What's the name of?
Speaker 2:the game. Pictionary, pictionary.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Drone that washes the windows.
Speaker 1:Yeah, there you go. Wow, and the windows, the way it's explained to me, like the east side of the building and the north and the south, like the windows have different tints tied back to the. It's super cool, right. So like the sun's never blaring in you, but you can go out three or four hours from meeting and come back and the windows in front of you are tinted very differently based on where the sun is. Yeah, super cool. Yeah, yeah, it's high tech right there. They did I mean the campus they did a nice job, it's amazing.
Speaker 4:It truly is like a community and they really wanted it to be part of the bittenville community where the public can experience the trails and as they're driving through and they really feel part of the campus that's awesome.
Speaker 1:And I want to talk too much Walmart because obviously you have to be careful on types of stuff. You say about the comms group here but you're an HR like the morale has to be just like through the roof, like people so excited yeah yeah, number one thing you hear is windows yeah, yeah, that's awesome, that's huge.
Speaker 1:AES scores up yeah, because I was just at the home office of the day for a meeting and I've been going there for 13 years and it is what it is and you like, you just kind of like, but actually have parking, like for the vendors that have to show up, like you want to get in that front parking lot, otherwise you could just circle around for hours or have to go across street, and so it's like the fact that you can go to the spot and have parking and the welcome center at the new campus is super cool retail.
Speaker 3:I heard there's going to be a gents place coming chance.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and with the energy there too.
Speaker 2:I mean I'm excited for the walk-in traffic absolutely, yeah, I haven't walked it yet, but but we kind of assume that yeah, tell us about the hotel, because that's for associates only during the week.
Speaker 1:Is that right? During the week, okay, they have a rooftop bar. Ooh Important things. I like to check that out Now. Can anybody go to the rooftop bar? Do we know?
Speaker 3:Anybody that can go.
Speaker 1:Like Walmart folks, I can't show up.
Speaker 3:It's open to the public. Interesting interest kids.
Speaker 2:You just can't I think emily just told you that, so you wouldn't be over there, you'd be working at I can go from the gents place across the street to the rooftop bar.
Speaker 1:I would think they are going to have a restaurant there too, probably, yeah, that'd be cool very cool, yeah, so going back to your house, when is it going to be finished? Fingers crossed, early july of 2025 or six, I'm just making sure so we'll be able to get into the pool before.
Speaker 3:That's the important question.
Speaker 4:That's right. So we're building a pool, so it's under construction right now. So, mike, you can get that pool done like now, and I can just come out while you're still doing construction. On how? The pool gonna likeby's like the big giant mass pool with the deck, and then the the hot tub giant, but um, we've got a sun deck on it like rob's, uh hot tub similar to his and a swim up bar swim up bar.
Speaker 2:Yeah, oh, I have a swim up bar you never have to leave the pool that's amazing except to go to the bathroom.
Speaker 4:You do have to get out details, details.
Speaker 2:They still be like josh, you haven't got out of that pool. From up there, you never have to leave the pool. That's amazing, except to go to the bathroom. You do have to get out Details.
Speaker 1:They'll be like Josh, you haven't got out of that pool, we got to go. All of the purple liquid flying around. I'll pee in the pool if I'll turn purple.
Speaker 2:The design on the home is beautiful. I've had the opportunity to walk it a few times. Oh, you walked that not the campus. Walk it a few times. Oh, you walk that, not the campus.
Speaker 3:Yep, that's true, it is going to be gorgeous. Yeah, it's going to be super, super neat.
Speaker 1:I hear you and walking in the same sense I get excited.
Speaker 2:Yeah, got to keep my steps in. Got to keep your steps in. Get the steps in, yeah.
Speaker 4:So Michael's putting in a bourbon room.
Speaker 1:Nice In the new house. What is that going to look like?
Speaker 2:Very dark.
Speaker 4:What is that gonna look like? Very dark and moody, just like Michael Michael's not moody yeah, I would say you're more moody.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, these two are both yeah. So maybe what we do is we do is we do like an on-site podcast In the bourbon room. It could be like bourbon room and go down.
Speaker 4:At the wine room. The wine room Experience two completely different worlds.
Speaker 1:Male.
Speaker 3:Female.
Speaker 2:I like that.
Speaker 1:That'd be cool. I do like that.
Speaker 4:When Michael's not allowed in the wine room, I'm allowed in the bourbon room.
Speaker 1:So how did that dynamic happen? Like you just said, this is my room, you're not allowed in.
Speaker 4:Well, the bourbon room's on the top floor, on the first floor, my wine room is beneath it, so you know, naturally I have to go through his bourbon room. But I said I don't want you in my wine room messing up my pretty pink.
Speaker 1:So is there like a pass code or like a thumbprint or something that will prevent it from coming out? No, just my voice. We should think about this, that's enough.
Speaker 2:They're on the honor.
Speaker 1:Michael, if you come down to the wine room, you're on the couch tonight. Okay, right, that's the husband's safe, that's plenty enough.
Speaker 3:It's a spiral staircase, though, so it's not safe for him?
Speaker 1:Well, it is safe for him if he's not 13 bourbons in right, you have to stay to the outside.
Speaker 2:It's when you get on that inside it's when you get problems, spirals yeah.
Speaker 3:You miss them with your heel. We said that, yeah, make it up the steps.
Speaker 2:That's fair. I'm sure you'll have a couch. If you blow up mattresses, it'll be fun.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it'll be like a slumber party.
Speaker 1:Emergency kit yeah, and where is the house? Is it downtown Bentonville area?
Speaker 4:No, it's between Bentonville and Pea Ridge.
Speaker 1:Oh nice, so you've got a lot of land then.
Speaker 4:So about two and a half acres out there.
Speaker 1:Which is also on the way out towards the bourbon charity event. Right, You're headed out to yes.
Speaker 2:Kind of no, yeah, not really, it's more northern. No, I'm trying to find a safe way to get you guys home. Uber, uber, uber With Jason. Yep, james, james, we're James. Shout out to James. Shout out, yep, good driver, good driver, gina.
Speaker 1:Gina, what's going on in your world? What's happening with you?
Speaker 3:Nothing much. Lisa and I are getting ready to go to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Speaker 2:Let's talk about that. I love that.
Speaker 1:Just the two of you.
Speaker 3:No, our families.
Speaker 1:It's spring break, it's not a ladies' trip.
Speaker 3:It's spring break, it's a family trip.
Speaker 1:So the brewers on the coast are going. Uh-huh and a few other people okay, yes, so Ian's going, that'll be fun. Ian's going solo.
Speaker 4:Yes, look out ladies there we go, trying to find him, a senorita, oh he'll do good on his own.
Speaker 2:Yeah, ladies ladies, ladies, that'll be. You know, that's Mazatlan. That's my favorite two places to go in Mexico. You have a house there? No, but I've been there a lot. I don't know.
Speaker 4:The Pacific side to me is more authentic we've been going every year for spring break for probably the last three spring breaks so connect through where. Dallas. So American to Dallas, dallas or.
Speaker 3:VNX so we go through where Dallas Depends on which, so American to Dallas.
Speaker 1:Dallas or VNX, so we go through Atlanta.
Speaker 3:Yes, okay, because we're so.
Speaker 1:It's a long day of travel.
Speaker 4:No, not really Like. We leave Saturday at 6. We arrive at 10, 10.09.
Speaker 3:My husband booked a fabulous flight home for us. We leave at 3 in the afternoon, oh boy, and we fly to Los Angeles and then we take the red eye to Atlanta and we get in at 5am and then we take an 8 o'clock back to Northwest Arkansas.
Speaker 1:Shout out to Tim Well done.
Speaker 2:It must have been a deal on the points then.
Speaker 4:Battery's trying to hit a status.
Speaker 2:Battery's trying to get a certain number of miles.
Speaker 1:Do that one more time for me.
Speaker 3:We're going to go to Europe on the way home 3 o'clock from Puerto Vallarta and we fly to Los Angeles.
Speaker 2:Stop one.
Speaker 3:And then from there we take the red-eye to Atlanta and get in at 5 in the morning.
Speaker 2:Stop two.
Speaker 3:And then at 8 o'clock we fly to XMA.
Speaker 1:So it's almost 24 hours.
Speaker 4:But eight o'clock we fly to xma so it's almost 24 hours, yeah, but it's only two stops, so it's not that bad.
Speaker 1:If mr brewer were to do that, I would strangle him and he would be on the couch permanently I mean, I'm sure it was a good deal, but unless you're flying to like australia, like that's, that's a lot of time.
Speaker 2:Timmy, you got to do better than that I he's gonna hit his status that he's trying to get. That's pretty smart.
Speaker 3:And he thought we're doing global entry. So when we get into XNA, I mean. Lax, we can do our interview at the same time All right, that's much better, tim.
Speaker 2:Yes, yeah, that's it.
Speaker 3:Thank you.
Speaker 1:So, all right, let's forget about the list that your husband gave you to talk about in the podcast. Let's talk about the list of what you're going to do in Puerto Vallarta. What do we got lined up for the week?
Speaker 4:Man, really simple Wake up, have a Bloody Mary, have some breakfast, lay by the pool, drink, drink. Take a nap, drink, drink, get some dinner and repeat.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that sounds like vacation to me. Enjoy the sun and no schedule, no worries no schedule.
Speaker 4:That's what makes it so good. I hate having a schedule.
Speaker 2:Me too, because then you get home and you feel like you need another vacation.
Speaker 1:I go on vacation with these people and it's like, okay, we should plan on going out to visit some cruise ship or some yacht ship and I'm like I just want to hang out by the pool, like I don't really want to get pulled away from the resort to go do those things. You know, I'm saying bobby, yeah that's not beds.
Speaker 1:So we get a bed and then you just look straight out into the ocean I mean, you know like you don't need to leave the resort to go look at cruise ships are you talking about our text message from this morning?
Speaker 2:No, I was just thinking it's not looking at cruise ships, yachts, no, it's one of the best island bars, beach bars on Antigua. Oh, you don't have to go.
Speaker 1:But I was thinking like Lisa, get up, drink, hang out by the pool, drink some more, take a nap, yeah, but if we want to go out and look at other people on boats, I mean a wave- to them.
Speaker 2:But if we want to go out and look at other people on boats, I mean a wave to them. Are you taking the boat over? No, Not yet. We're working on that. I was going to say I think you need to get him to come here. I'm all about hanging out at the resort, but you know it's kind of cool to see some other cool beach bars and stuff. After seven days let's sit, I'm ready to go see something else.
Speaker 1:Alright, seven days by the pool is not a bad thing no relaxing, I'm with you.
Speaker 2:The beautiful thing about being an adult is you have choices to stay exactly where you are or not.
Speaker 1:I was just talking about. Well, you brought it up twice.
Speaker 2:So I figured you were trying to start some shit.
Speaker 1:So no, I just I was going to fire off at you who said I was even talking about you, I was just talking about on their trip.
Speaker 2:I think it's amazing. Yeah, I mean Jim and Corey are in, so I think it'll be nice. Yeah, we'll send you pictures.
Speaker 1:So nice meals planned. Do you have anything like you guys do at the restaurant there?
Speaker 4:We'll eat at the resort, but we do like to go out into town and experience. You know the weather.
Speaker 2:Oh, I thought we were only sitting by the pool the entire time During the day, during the day. Okay, so we went. We went to Puerto Vallarta when I was for my senior trip. I did too, you did I did?
Speaker 1:Did you guys hook up there by chance, like no? No, no, not like, not like hook up like that, like hook up and like hang out. Why?
Speaker 3:are you going?
Speaker 1:there Just not like hook up Like for a tank.
Speaker 2:How do you say that Were you at?
Speaker 4:Carlos and Charlie's.
Speaker 2:Yep, oh, I was too 92 so my yeah, that's when you were there. It was close to that whoa, but uh, but we, so we went there, we went to this fair or this circus, a circus I wrote a mechanical bowl and won drinks for our whole class. It was a whole. It's a wonder that I'm alive after that trip it was.
Speaker 4:We had so much fun you know what, when I got home from that trip, I got mono'd the mono's the kissing disease.
Speaker 3:Right, we're digressing. No, no, no, but is it mono the kissing disease?
Speaker 1:yeah, did you get sick on that trip too I didn't get sick.
Speaker 2:You, okay too much tequila. I think the tequila that when you know, when you you're 18, it was blowing down there. I went to my first foam party, your first. Alex and Charlie's had a big foam party.
Speaker 3:Mexico loves those foam parties.
Speaker 1:Can you explain what a?
Speaker 3:foam party is for the viewers I've never been to one.
Speaker 2:Well, you get out. You're like out on the dance floor, and they have these foam machines that are blowing bubbles out in there. Before you know it, you're neck deep in the toe.
Speaker 3:It kind of sounds like fur.
Speaker 2:It's fun. Was it a strip club? Yeah, was it regular? I bet you you could find one when you guys go down next week.
Speaker 4:Yeah, I bet, we can. I bet the boys, my boys would love that.
Speaker 1:Michael and the group of the boys. You're talking about the boys.
Speaker 2:Yes, yeah, I have three, so I wish I remembered there was this bar that you could get in. They had a cage that they'd lift you up in. Did you go to that on your trip?
Speaker 4:She was on the pool. I missed that one.
Speaker 2:A friend of mine got in there and he had his Charlie Brown shirt on and he was locked in there and they raised you up in the middle of the club, I mean it's Was that at the. Melaton, I don't even know where it was.
Speaker 1:So how long was he up?
Speaker 2:there for, oh, probably 30 minutes. He was up there dancing and doing all this stuff.
Speaker 4:Hmm.
Speaker 1:We need to find that place for Michael.
Speaker 4:Yes, he would love it.
Speaker 2:He would love that.
Speaker 4:Yeah, he would love it, his clothing stays on, he would be the star of the show.
Speaker 1:Oh, it would be the Michael show I've seen him dance.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, yeah, we've all seen Michael dance. We've all seen Michael dance.
Speaker 3:He was the star last year when we were on the boat he was. I know we're giving him money.
Speaker 4:Yes, he made money on the boat.
Speaker 1:So in Mexico.
Speaker 4:Yes, we took a boat over to see a show and you know they do a party thing on the boat and of course he had to get up and show his moves and women were literally stuffing dollar bills in his shirt.
Speaker 1:Thank God you stopped and said shirt because the viewers were trying to figure out where we were going there To PG-13 rated, didn't he?
Speaker 2:have to do that when we were in Kentucky as well too. Remember when we came home late that night.
Speaker 1:Yes, he was at the table and we were all sitting there, three guys and he came down in silk boxers and Bobby was putting dollar bills in his chest and we were like, hey, Bobby, whatever floats your boat.
Speaker 2:I mean, he was dancing for you.
Speaker 4:We were also in Vegas a year or two ago, maybe a couple years ago went to a drag queen show and while they were off of the stage for a moment, he jumped up on stage and started dancing and he made 20 bucks.
Speaker 1:Lisa, I'm very confident none of this is in your approved list to talk about for. Michael yeah.
Speaker 2:I feel pretty strongly Michael's going to watch this. He's like what about the list? You went off the script. You went off the script.
Speaker 1:You went off the script. When did the wheels fall?
Speaker 2:off.
Speaker 4:We had a list. Sorry, babe.
Speaker 1:Didn't stick to any of it. Now, how's Tim on this trip? Is he quiet, calm, relaxed, or does he go with the flow?
Speaker 3:Yeah, he's, let me just plop down somewhere, give me a drink, then I'm just going to chill.
Speaker 2:He's probably like on the Bimini. You know, you and him sat up frowning in those seats and we never saw you guys.
Speaker 1:It was like the scene from Titanic when we were up by the front of the boat.
Speaker 3:And then some sore muscles, and I'm not sure how that happened. What are you trying to?
Speaker 1:say I don't know. I'm just saying I'm not sure. But what are you trying to say? I'm just saying I'm not sure. I mean, the boat was bumping up and down and we had to lock in to ensure we didn't fall off. What else do you think was going on?
Speaker 1:Nothing, I just was like wow just making sure, matthew, some quality bonding, quality bonding. I learned a lot about the Coke family on that trip. I got to spend a lot of time with Tim. I about the Koch family on that trip. We got to spend a lot of time with Tim. I mean that was a good. What hour each way. Yeah yeah, we learned a lot.
Speaker 3:We talked about a lot of things.
Speaker 1:Somebody had to take one for the team. We did yeah.
Speaker 2:So how long are you in Puerto Vallarta for?
Speaker 3:For a week.
Speaker 1:That sounds fun.
Speaker 3:A little bit longer we're Friday to the following Tuesday, but are you, though?
Speaker 2:I'm not.
Speaker 1:I'm not Sorry.
Speaker 2:Gina, but are you? No, I'm not. They're leaving a day before.
Speaker 4:By the time you recover, it'll be a few days later and I'll be well rested because I got the Brewers have seven days in the hotel.
Speaker 1:You only have six, but you're getting home two days later.
Speaker 2:He's like I am. He's thrifty. It killed him to spend that extra yeah but you know how many miles you're going to earn. On that you'll go like you'll maintain your top level for the next few years well, yeah, I hope so.
Speaker 3:It better be worth it.
Speaker 4:I better get that upgrade yeah but you know, by the end of next week Michael will have like 10 new friends he will have met everyone at the reason.
Speaker 2:Well, don't you have an adopted son down there? Tell us about that. It's a great story.
Speaker 4:So we went to, I guess, puerto Vallarta a few years ago for our first time and we had our boys with us. They're 19 and 16. And you know they were kind of bored and you know like we need something to do. So they hooked up with the activities director, who was there, whose name was Andres, we got to give the girls some.
Speaker 2:That's good.
Speaker 4:He was like 19 years old or so, so you know, fit right in with the boys, hung out with them every day, played games with them, and we got to talking to him and you know, he was just a just a great kid um and he worked for the resort.
Speaker 4:Yeah, he worked for the resort. Um doesn't have any parents, lives with his grandma, like you know, just a great kid. So every year we would go back, we would, we would meet him, we would go, we would go out with him, like take him to dinner, you know at night, when he had a night off or something, and just became friends with him and he calls us mom and dad. Oh, wow, and so last year we took a family vacation to Cabo and we took Andres with us.
Speaker 3:How cool is that he had never, been out of Puerto Vallarta.
Speaker 1:Wow.
Speaker 4:You know never been on a plane and has never been a guest at a resort. So he went from working at a resort to getting to be a guest at a resort.
Speaker 2:Big difference.
Speaker 4:And he was just. It was so cool to watch because he was just in awe the entire week. He thought everything was just amazing.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's so fun.
Speaker 4:Yeah, we talked to him like once a month, so we're looking forward to seeing him.
Speaker 1:That just goes back to the generosity of your family, like just it's very kind and you don't have to do any of those things and you want to give back. That just speaks volumes to who you guys are. I know Tim would do the same thing, of course.
Speaker 3:Yeah, we have a little adopted son ourselves.
Speaker 2:I love that.
Speaker 1:That's amazing.
Speaker 4:You took the port of my heart. Yes, I took the port of my heart.
Speaker 1:Now what we're thinking is why don't you guys adopt us and take us?
Speaker 2:to the port of my heart. Yeah, exactly. How do?
Speaker 1:we get adopted to go.
Speaker 2:That's amazing. Got status with Delta, yeah, no status.
Speaker 1:Now have we flown this adopted son to Bentonville, yet we flown this adopted son to Bentonville, yet no, that would be cool.
Speaker 4:It's more difficult for a citizen of Mexico to come travel to the United States.
Speaker 2:They have to get a visa. They have to get a visa, yeah.
Speaker 4:Yeah, so we would love to. We just have to figure out how you know, really how to do that.
Speaker 1:I'm going to get Michael to bring him into Blakeman's. I mean it would be amazing, Pick up a little Rolex for him to bring back home.
Speaker 2:A little souvenir, lisa's, like we have a house in the pool.
Speaker 3:We have to finish.
Speaker 4:Yeah. I just was kind of stirring.
Speaker 1:Don't give Michael any ideas that's not on the list either to talk about. I'm certain we can't talk about that.
Speaker 3:Then we have Mario, which Mario is great.
Speaker 4:Yes. Mario, he's our other buddy in Puerto Vallarta. And you know the other thing we do when we go to Puerto Vallarta and this may sound crazy, but we take a big bag of blow pops you know, with a gum in it and we pass those out. Do you want to talk about them?
Speaker 3:I'm just joking.
Speaker 1:Sounds R-rated.
Speaker 4:We pass them out to the staff. Yeah, to all of the pool waiters and everyone and all day. You'll see them walking around with these blow pops in their mouth and they love them because they can't get them there.
Speaker 2:Josh, you might need to borrow that idea for Antigua or your next Caribbean trip. Maybe you could let Bobby and Jim take it to the island bar. It's kind of cool that it's something so simple to us. Could let Bobby and Jim take it to the island bar. They could take it to the island bar.
Speaker 3:It's kind of cool that it's something so simple to us but in so much detail.
Speaker 2:Yeah, big deal.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that's pretty awesome.
Speaker 2:What do you get them at Sam's?
Speaker 4:Yeah, yeah, we just get a great big bag that is cool. Hand them out through the week or they'll let. Can I get another blow pop, sure.
Speaker 1:That's amazing. Now I gotta tell you something cheaper than dollar bills. Now I got a list from Michael too. He asked me to talk about some things on a podcast, so he said make sure that you convince Lisa to get me a boat so the boat.
Speaker 1:I said, alright, well, we'll talk about that because he knew well, he knew that last time we were down in Bimini he wanted a boat and you said no. So he said he said make sure that you guys can pull the approval for a boat out of Lisa on camera today.
Speaker 4:So Not going to happen.
Speaker 1:Yeah, but Nope, it's a hard. No, it's a hard.
Speaker 4:No, maybe We've had a boat before and the best day was when we sold it. Yeah, but you haven't had like a Helios boat. No, not a Helios boat, that's what he's referring to.
Speaker 3:He's not in the budget.
Speaker 1:Yeah, no, you do realize that he never texted me, but we just went through that. Yeah, oh, yeah, I love that.
Speaker 2:We had that right when we just got over. Oh, because you had me going in Bimini. Oh, he was buying that, but no, that wasn't us having you going.
Speaker 1:He was buying that thing once you guys walked into the like the the lift room, where they had all the boats and Rob looking at all the boats up on the wall up in there, I was like, oh, this is not going to end well at least one of my favorite moments on the benny boat was when I told tim that he broke the armrest and she was like no, I did.
Speaker 3:I'm like, well, tim, you're the only one sitting up there, you broke it, and I'm like you're gonna have to talk to rob about it and like just ask him what it's gonna cost to replace so tim didn't break the head of that on a must-break no no, I think that breaks.
Speaker 2:It was the night before we had a little dance party on the boat. I think I slipped and I broke it. Oh, you did. Yeah, it was me.
Speaker 3:But I think Tim Maliki did it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, because money on this flight home from Puerto Vallarta.
Speaker 2:He's got to get money in the bank account. That's why he always robbed money for the boat. Tim, I know you're listening to this right now and I know you're probably getting mad because we keep talking about this, but it's fine, we're just having fun. But I did break the armrest. That was me.
Speaker 3:Yeah, but he was so happy with me. He's like that is not funny. I'm like we're. I kind of thought it worked.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's fine.
Speaker 1:That was a fun trip because that was our first time all going on vacation together.
Speaker 2:Yes, that was a fun trip.
Speaker 4:I think that was the first time I met you.
Speaker 2:Matt, yeah, I think it was.
Speaker 4:Yeah, so you were a dangerous bartender.
Speaker 2:Yes, matt likes pulling that deal out of the.
Speaker 3:Yes.
Speaker 2:Todd is like the.
Speaker 3:Everyone loves Todd. You have, we will. Yeah, he was great, he was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2:We're trying to plan a trip for them to come down, so that'll be good. My wrist is still fractured from you. It's funny because even our neighbors in Florida, they're all like when's Todd coming down? I'm like I'm here.
Speaker 3:What are you talking about? I'm like, oh, that guy.
Speaker 2:That guy is such a nice guy, but no, he's, he's a great. It's hard not to like Todd.
Speaker 1:Oh, he's very likable. And the two of you together are like cause you guys didn't you guys share a bed? And you guys were, and then, and then you had an opportunity to shift to another room Each had your own beds and you're like, no, we're good together sharing a bed, yeah.
Speaker 2:I mean, I mean for you know why change.
Speaker 1:So for the podcast viewers, was it like head to toe, was it like one above the blanket, one below, or like what was the arrangement? Just making sure that we're clear.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I mean, we just built a little bridge between us, a little culvert.
Speaker 1:A little bridge in between.
Speaker 3:A little swell.
Speaker 1:Anything else you ladies want to cover. See, I told you we would just riff on stuff, yeah. And then we'd go by we're out of time. We went through a fire.
Speaker 2:I know I feel like you didn't even get to talk about any of what you wanted to talk about.
Speaker 4:You know, I don't really have anything.
Speaker 2:We didn't hit the list, that's what's good, lisa never has an agenda that's what we love about you and have a cocktail and a glass of wine. Did you guys have?
Speaker 1:fun, yeah. Good, nice and easy, yeah. So what did we learn? What did we learn? We learned that Tim doesn't like to spend money on flights.
Speaker 2:Or make sure he hits the top status Top status.
Speaker 1:Yes, that's what I meant. We learned that you have a son, yeah, in Mexico, in Mexico, right, yeah, yeah, I mean we got some good learnings out of it.
Speaker 2:We learned that Josh is a little bit hurt because we might leave a resort that we're sitting there for seven days for and go see a cool beach bar. I don't think Josh is going to leave, though, with you. That's fine, he's going to keep the camp.
Speaker 3:I was just throwing out options.
Speaker 2:You know it was crickets all day. I was busy preparing for the podcast. What were you doing? Picking up all the stuff you needed me to bring here?
Speaker 1:bourbon glasses well, thank you for coming in. You're like be here at?
Speaker 2:245. Josh wasn't here at 245, I most certainly was. You were not. I was cleaning my single first. I was sitting in the parking lot and this is not true cheers.
Speaker 1:Ladies, thanks for coming in. Have a wonderful trip thank you for your friendship thank you for being part of everything that we do for james giving yeah.
