Joel David Briscoe

Joel is an IP Adviser at Panoramix Limited. Joel started in the Patent profession in 2018. Joel specialises in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the fields of: telecommunications (e.g., 3GPP technical specifications), electronics, software, semi-conductors, auto-motive techonologies, blockchain, medical physics, human-computer interactions, and computer-implemented inventions. 

Joel is heavily involved in the wider UK & European Patent profession, he holds active roles with: the Informals committee, who represent the trainees of the UK profession; the IP mental health awareness and wellbeing charity, Jonathan's Voice; the IP inclusive community; and he also sits on the Education Committee of CIPA.

Matilda Memaripour

Matilda is a Part-Qualified Patent Attorney at Marks & Clerk. Matilda joined the patent profession in 2020 and specialises in the prosecution of patent applications in the field of Biotechnology. Matilda has a particular interest in immunotherapy (antibody-drug conjugates), medical devices and neurodegenerative disorders.
 
Matilda is also a member of the Informals committee, a team of trainee representatives for the patent profession, acting as the Inclusivity Officer. In her role, Matilda trained as a Mental Health First Aider and now works closely with Jonathan's Voice and IP Inclusive to campaign for mental health in the IP profession. Matilda also regularly volunteers with the Summer of IP outreach campaign to raise awareness of the IP profession and mentor students and graduates considering a career in IP.

Sophie Knott

Sophie a part-qualified patent attorney at Murgitroyd & Co, where she specialises in the field of life sciences. Sophie joined the IP profession in 2022, after completing an industrial CASE PhD in biochemistry, with a thesis exploring the structural and computational characterisation of DNA-modifying proteins for applications in synthetic biology. 

Sophie is also the Welfare Officer for the Informals Committee. Established during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Welfare Officer position is dedicated to raising awareness for mental health and wellbeing within the trainee patent attorney community.

Alessandro Giovannone

Alessandro is a part-qualified Life Science and Chemistry Patent Attorney with an academic background in Biochemistry and Data Science. His professional experience consists of drafting and prosecuting patents in a range of technological fields, including biotechnology, materials science, and pharmaceuticals, both domestically in the UK and Europe and internationally. 

Alessandro is heavily involved in extracurriculars, holding the position of Treasurer for the Informals Committee, and also helps organise the prestigious CIPA IP ball.

Matt Dixon

Matt is a British and European patent attorney and a UPC representative with 30 years’ experience advising technology companies on their intellectual property strategy at all stages of their growth from start-up through rounds of investment to mature businesses.

My technical expertise covers the broad fields of physics, engineering, electronics and software. In addition to IP strategy advice, Matt has represented major multi-national corporations in multi-party Opposition and Appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office.

Matt has also held significant leadership roles in the firms where I have worked and is now passionate about building motivated teams backed by efficient systems to grow a successful business. Matt is also the outgoing President of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, a role which saw him represent the entire patent attorney profession in the UK on both the national and international stage.
