Everyday Warriors Moments
Exclusive access to premium content! What’s distracting you right now, not what you like, what’s quietly stealing your attention? This quieter solo moment is a gentle but direct reset for anyone feeling scattered, over-stimulated or stuck in comparison. We’re surrounded by sport, celebrity updates, influencer ads, new tech and endless streaming options, and none of it is “bad” on its own. The problem starts when the scroll becomes a hiding place and our own life becomes something we keep postponing.
I talk honestly about how distraction can change channels. When the pressure of real life drops away, the noise doesn’t always stop, it just moves to a new feed. That’s where comparison creeps in and where we start looking outside ourselves for relief. We share why turning down the outside world can be a turning point in healing and mental health, even when it’s uncomfortable at first, because it forces the question we avoid: what do I actually need?
From there, I get practical. Maybe it’s not a time problem, it’s an intention problem. We explore small, doable choices that rebuild presence, purpose and community from reading a chapter instead of scrolling, going for a walk, backing a friend’s small business, asking “how are you, really?” and staying long enough to hear the answer. If this landed for you, subscribe, share it with someone who needs a reset, and leave a review so more everyday warriors can find the conversation.

A Quiet Moment To Reset
Trudie MarieThis is Everyday Warrior Moments. Thank you, truly, for being here and for choosing to subscribe and support the podcast. It means more than you probably realise and it allows me to keep creating these conversations and this space. This is a quieter moment between our guest episodes, a place to slow things down, to reflect and to take a breath. These episodes are just me, sharing thoughts, lessons, and gentle reminders as I continue to walk in my own journey too. So wherever you are right now, whether you're starting your day, ending it, or somewhere in between, let's take a few minutes together. Hello and welcome to another episode of the Everyday Warrior Moments.
The Question: What Distracts You?
Trudie MarieToday I want to ask you one simple question. What are you distracted by? Not entertained, not interested in, distracted by? Because I think there is a difference. And I don't know about you, but I found myself looking around and wondering, have we become so consumed by everybody else's lives that we've forgotten how to live our own? We want to know who which celebrity is dating who, or who won the football, or what was it that Taylor Swift wore at the latest event, or what was the latest iPhone released? We want to know what influencer is promoting the newest skincare, or what the latest Netflix series is, or who got voted off the reality TV show. And none of those things are inherently wrong. I enjoy a good sporting event. I just watch my blues win the latest state of origin. And I do love a really good story. I follow people online who actually inspire me. And let's be real, I'm not pretending that we should all live under a rock. But it's about asking, at what point does entertainment become distraction? Because while we are watching everybody else, who's paying attention to us? One of the biggest shifts in my own reality and my own healing journey happened when I started to turn the volume down on the outside world.
When The Noise Changes Channels
Trudie MarieAt my lover's point, I became agoraphobic. I couldn't get out of bed, let alone leave my own house. And I honestly had no idea what was going on in the rest of the world. It wasn't because I didn't want to disconnect. In fact, I was desperately needing connection. Because for years my life revolved around the next shift, the next crisis, the next news story, the next emergency. But then, when I was medically retired and I went on stress leave, something really interesting happened. The noise didn't stop, it just changed channels. Instead of the police radio, it became social media. Instead of operational stress, it became scrolling. And instead of the chaos, it became comparison. I realized that I was still looking outside of myself for something, anything to make me feel better. And healing has a funny way of doing that. You start to begin to question things that you've never questioned before. And you start asking yourself, why do I believe in this? Who told me that this mattered? Is this actually important to me? Or have it I simply inherited somebody else's definition of whatever it is you're looking at?
No Reception And Nowhere To Hide
Trudie MarieAnd I remember after hiking the Bibleman track, walking day after day, week after week, I had no television. I had very little phone reception. There was no shopping centers, no advertisements, no distractions. It was just the trees, the birds, the ocean, and my own thoughts. Honestly, at first, it was really uncomfortable because suddenly there was nowhere to hide. There were no notifications on my phone, no noise, no distractions, no music, podcasts, audiobooks, nothing. It was just me. And it was at that point I realized how rarely we actually sit with ourselves and our thoughts anymore. We are human beings, but what we've become experts at is being human doings. We are constantly consuming and watching and scrolling and buying and comparing and reacting to whatever's going on in the world. But we are, we never stop and ask ourselves, what do I actually need? And here is something that I find fascinating. We will happily spend hundreds of dollars because a celebrity or an influencer tells us to buy something. But our best friend starts a small business and we say, yeah, we'll get around to it. We'll cue overnight for concert tickets and planned entire weekends around sporting events like grand finals. We'll even spend hours researching the perfect television or the latest iPhone. But then we can tell ourselves we don't have 30 minutes to read a book or to take a walk or to ring a loved one or have a coffee with a friend or finally start that business we've been thinking about. It's interesting what suddenly becomes important. And to be honest, I'm guilty of it too. There were seasons where I convinced myself I was too busy, too tired, too overwhelmed, to this, to that. Yet somehow I always found time for the distractions. And that's really confronting.
Time Problem Or Intention Problem
Trudie MarieBecause maybe we don't have a time problem. Maybe we have an intention problem. Imagine if we became invested in our own lives like we are in everyone else's. Imagine if we celebrated growth the way we celebrated a premiership. Imagine if we backed our family the way we backed million-dollar brands. Imagine if we read the chapter of a book each night instead of scrolling for another hour. And imagine if we actually stopped and asked somebody, how are you? Really? And stayed long enough to hear the answer. We all think that social media gives us connection, but what it really gives us is the illusion of connection. Seeing somebody's holiday photos is not the same as sitting across from them, seeing the emotion in their face and hearing about the holiday firsthand. It's not the same as liking a post or asking, are you actually okay? Watching stories on people's social media is not the same as knowing somebody's story. And sometimes I wonder if we've been so connected, yet so disconnected and alone at the same time. And that's the one thing I love about podcasting, especially with my own personal podcast. People slow down
The Illusion Of Connection
Trudie Marieand they listen. They want to hear what another human being has to say. Not a 15-second highlight that's perfectly curated, but a real conversation, a voice that has emotion and silence, laughter and tears. That's where the real connection lives. And maybe that's what we're all really craving. We don't want more information or another product or another distraction. We're craving presence and purpose and community.
Small Choices That Change Everything
Trudie MarieSo today I want to leave you with these questions. What has had your attention lately? What deserves more attention and what deserves less? Who in your life have you been meaning to call? I want you to go make that call. What have you dreamt about that have been putting off? What distraction is keeping you from becoming the person you are really capable of? Because here's what I've learned. Life doesn't usually change in one dramatic moment. It starts in those small decisions that we make. Things like turning off our phone and being with somebody. Choosing to read the book instead of scrolling aimlessly. Going for the walk in nature instead of sitting in front of the TV or a computer. Supporting that local small business instead of the big corporate. Having a difficult conversation that you've been putting up, or simply just connecting with a loved one by hearing their voice on a phone call. Starting things before you really feel ready. And being fully present with those around you. Because it's all these little moments connected that start to become important in your life. So maybe today, rather than asking what's the current thing that's trending, ask yourself what's really important to me. Because at the end of your life, I don't think you're going to remember which influencer you followed or what product you purchased. But you'll remember the conversations you had, the people that you were with, the sunsets that you viewed, and the laughter around the dinner table. You'll remember the courage that it took to be yourself, and that is worth paying attention to. So now I want you to take a deep breath in and let it go. Come back to yourself and remember that everyday warriors don't give up. They continue to
