Why Courage Beats Comfort Every Time! 9/1/25
Courage over comfort is where transformation begins. In this EMBR Mornings reflection, Kimberly Hoyt shares how leaving the safety of the familiar opens space for growth, alignment, and deeper presence.
You’ll discover why true courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s choosing what’s aligned, even when it feels uncertain. This short morning reflection invites you to pause with your coffee, breathe deeply, and ask: Where am I staying safe instead of stepping into my next chapter?

There's a moment when comfort feels safe, but your soul whispers for more. That's where courage begins. Welcome to EMBR Mornings, your pause to rise with intention, and welcome to September. This month's EMBR is emerge more bold and rise. This is your daily invitation to step into your next level, and this week we're starting with a theme of choosing courage over comfort. I spent 20 years practicing medicine in the same building. I knew the rhythm of the day. I knew where we kept our stash of chocolate in case we needed a little stress relief during the day. I knew the sound of the creaking door that meant a patient was coming in to be seen, and how we all cringed when that was at 7:59 PM at night, and we were just about to close. Familiarity wrapped around me like a warm blanket. It was safe, it was cozy, it was comfortable, and still there was a tug, a telehealth position opened up in my path, and it was more aligned with what I wanted to do. But it was full of unknowns. New systems, new expectations, new coworkers. It was a startup company with no track record and no guarantees. There was this push and pull this pulling back of telling myself that I could wait until it felt less scary, but the pull of moving forward into something new. The truth was staying would have meant shrinking, and it was killing me to stay there. Now. I remember my first couple of days with these patients in a different role, and of course it was a little awkward and it felt a little uncomfortable, but I did it. I learned, I adjusted. I realized that courage didn't take away the butterflies. It taught me how to breathe while they dissipated. That single step opened up space for better rhythms, for deeper presence, and a version of me that I would not have met if I stayed comfortable. Courage isn't the absence of fear. It's choosing what's true over what's familiar. It's moving forward in the face of fear. Where are you staying because it's comfortable and not because it's aligned? What is one step you can take today? Maybe it's sending an email, raising your hand to ask a question, blocking out the hour for you. Where are you staying because it's comfortable? And name one small step you can take today to step out of that comfort zone. Let's EMBR the day ahead with courage and calm. Let's EMBR the honest next step. Come back tomorrow. We'll keep building your courage muscle one rep at a time. See you tomorrow.
