90. How to Keep Going When Your Doula Business Isn’t Working (And You’re Ready to Quit)
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What do you do when your business isn’t working… and you’re this close to giving up?
In this episode, I’m taking you behind the scenes of my own entrepreneurial journey, back to the season where nothing was clicking. No consistent clients. No predictable income. No proof that any of this was going to work.
Just doubt, pressure, and the constant question: “Is this even meant for me?”
Because here’s the truth no one talks about:
The hardest part of building a business isn’t strategy.
It’s continuing when there’s no evidence yet.
But what’s even more surprising?
That’s not the only hard season.
Because eventually… it does start working.
And then the question shifts from:
“How do I keep going when nothing is working?”
to
“How do I keep going… and still love my life?”
In this episode, we’re diving into both.
I’m sharing:
- The mindset shift that kept me from quitting in the early days
- Why most entrepreneurs give up in the “messy middle”
- What actually wasn’t working in my business (and how I fixed it)
- The difference between building a business that drains you vs supports your life
- How to create a business as a present mom, devoted partner, and powerful leader
If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing everything right but nothing is working…
or you’re building momentum but starting to feel stretched thin…
This episode will hit.
Because you don’t just need to keep going.
You need to build this in a way that actually holds.

I am not just teaching women how to make money. I believe in my bones that I am teaching women how to build a business that actually fits inside of their life. A business that allows them to be present mothers and committed partners, women that are regulated and thoughtful and powerful and aligned all at once. Not stretched so thin that balls are dropping left and right and they're hating themselves even in their success. Not constantly choosing between their family and business growth. Welcome to the Six Figure Doula podcast. This is where confidence becomes currency. If you're a birth worker who's ready to stop overthinking, stop undercharging, and start leading like you mean it, then you're not here by accident. Every week we talk sales without the ick, money without shame, and building a business that actually holds you and your clients. Welcome home, Doula. Today I really want to speak from the heart. And there has been a lot of heaviness in my world. Our family had a death, and I've been met with a lot of truth. I've been met with a lot of emotion. I've had to learn some really hard lessons over the past couple of weeks. And I just wanted to show up here and bring it to you because I've always found that not only being open and transparent as something that heals me, but I also find that when I share these in-between moments, the messy middle, the things that are unknown and scary, people come out of the woodwork and they say, Lisa, I learned something from that, or I found camaraderie. I feel validated. I had a shift in perspective. So that's really what I want to bring you today. So there was a time in my business where nothing was working. I don't mean I was having slow months. I mean nothing. I'm talking no consistent inquiries, zero predictable income. There was literally no proof that this was actually ever going to work. So it was just me like sitting there at night, trying to figure things out, wondering if I was delusional for thinking I could build something bigger. And in the beginning, entrepreneurship felt like this constant internal battle. Because on the outside, I was doing the things. I was posting, I was actively networking, I was learning, I was investing, I was trying my damnedest. But on the inside, I was always questioning is this going to work? Am I cut out for this type of work? Why does it feel like it's working for everyone except for me? And the hardest part wasn't even the lack of results, although that really took a toll on me because I'm very result-oriented. It was the lack of certainty. There was no evidence yet. There was no real momentum. And that meant zero guarantees. There was a vision, but there was a whole lot of resistance. And if you've been here, you know how exhausting the resistance is. But it wasn't. It was when I woke up one day and had a moment of clarity around I am not available to quit. Like, not a hustle, grind myself into the ground realization, but a grounded, locked-in. I'm going to figure this out no matter how long it takes, a patience that didn't exist before this. And I think that a lot of women don't fail because they're not capable of the thing. So it doesn't have to do with capability, but they they fail because they stop when the middle gets hella messy. That's when they stop. When there's a lack of clarity, when it is quiet, when they stop, you know, feeling like it's ever gonna work, like they just consistently feel like this isn't working, that isn't working, like everything I've tried fails. I think what changed for me was the way that I was building. So I was trying to piece together strategies that didn't actually support the life that I wanted, but I wasn't seeing it. So I was building a business that required more time from me, more energy from me, more content creation, more hustle, all the things. And I was already a mother. I was already a devoted partner, someone who deeply values presence and connection and being inside my life, not just working through it. And I had to ask myself, okay, so if the problem is not lack of effort, what is the problem? And it was the foundation that I was building on. Now I want to shift you into what I kind of have been considering in my journal the new standard. Because now I'm in a completely different season. And I want to be really clear and transparent about a vulnerability and an insecurity of mine, which is that if I move into a different season, will the women that I desperately want to support who are in that messiness, who are feeling like nothing's working, are they gonna feel like I'm disconnected? Are they gonna feel like I'm out of touch and I don't understand their pain? But I know that's not true. And I know that the question I used to ask was, how do I keep going when nothing is working? And the question that I ask now is, how do I keep going and still love it? How do I hold my clients and also hold my family and also hold my standards without losing myself in the process? Because growth does not remove pressure. It changes it, certainly, but it does not remove it. And there's something that has been brought to the forefront and has been on my mind and on my heart recently that's really, really powerful about the work that I do now. And that is that I am not just teaching women how to make money. I believe in my bones that I am teaching women how to build a business that actually fits inside of their life. A business that allows them to be present mothers and committed partners, women that are regulated and thoughtful and powerful and aligned all at once. Not stretched so thin that balls are dropping left and right, and they're hating themselves even in their success. Not constantly choosing between their family and business growth. And I have a coach from my past that used to say you can have it all, and I used to scoff at that. And and I think that for me it's you can have both, but not if you build it like everyone else is telling you to. What I do need is a strategy that actually converts, a way of selling that feels clean and powerful and genuine, and a structure that supports my energy, not depletes it on a regular basis. If your business only works when you're constantly on full blast, that is not freedom. That's just a different cage that we've put ourselves into. And it's it ends up being miserable. So if you are in a season that is heavy, if you feel like nothing is working, I want you to hear my voice that this is not proof that it's not meant for you. This is your tipping point where you get to decide am I gonna keep spinning or am I gonna build this differently? Because the women that I work with are not out there just trying to make money, they are out there working so hard to build something that actually supports their life. Money is a byproduct, but all in all, that requires a different level of leadership, a different level of decision making, and a different kind of support. And if you feel like it's the guessing that has you exhausted, if you feel like you're overworking and the results are not matching, and you are looking to build a business that brings in clients and gives you your life back, I want you to take this as an exclusive, wholehearted invitation to join me inside of my live workshop this week. This is brand spanking new. This is based on the last 90 days of what is working so incredibly well within my own world and within the world of my clients. I'm calling this how to consistently book clients without relying on referrals and without posting every damn day. And I'm gonna show you exactly how to build this the right way from the start. The way that actually holds, the way that actually lasts, and the way that lets you win, not only just in your business, but in your life. If you are not yet registered, hit up the show notes, get yourself on that list, be there live. If you can't, it will be recorded. The magic happens in the room, so do your damnedest. I will see you on Wednesday, March 25th at 2 p.m. Eastern, and it is going to be the day that changes the game for you. I promise.
