This is a Client Case Study, and today we’re talking about what to do if you notice that you’re working all the time now, even though you’re working from home – here’s how to make yourself do something for fun.

Have you been working so hard at the productivity end of things that you’re having difficulty taking breaks?

And if you’ve been noticing that about yourself, are you trying to fix this problem by making yourself “relax” harder?

If so, I have a client reminder for you that’s exactly what you need to hear, and it’s this:

You have to make the life you want happen. As my client said, “There is no magic potion.”

Yes, living unbusy means living slower than you're used to. You (and your body!) need rhythms of rest built in.

And in answer to your question (‘cause my client asked this, too) of "how do I make myself sit down and do something for fun," I'd make sure you that already slowed down your task list enough that you're not trying to "make" yourself read when you still have to-dos looming. (‘Cause that isn’t going to work!)

You need to give yourself enough space for tasks beforehand to ensure you can relax! (Something we productive moms often have trouble with.)

So yes, you’re allowed to look at your schedule and build in a “do something for fun” time slot, but you *also* have to make sure it’s humanly possible to get all your chores done (without rushing!) ahead of that time slot.

Aka, your brain has to be ready to *give* you permission to be off. And you can help that along by being done with your to-do list. (A reasonable level, of course!)

So if you’re an over-achieving, high-efficiency sort of mom who’s trying to add the new to do of “relax in my day,” use these client tips to make it happen, and above all remember her words – “there is no magic potion,” and *you* have to make that relaxing happen.

No one’s going to suddenly hand you a “want to relax pill” every day at 3pm. Or make you pop a “time to relax!” chewable at 8 o’clock every night.

No, *you* have to create that feeling for yourself.

So find out what it takes to give yourself that mental release, and schedule *that* in first before your relaxation time block.

You’ll find you’re much more likely to keep up with your new habit with this in place.

(Like for me, if I have a copy edit on my plate that I’d intended to get done today, so I could submit it for the cascade of deadlines tomorrow and next week, I really *don’t* want to hear “just take a break” and “you’re allowed to slow it down.” What I really *want*, in that moment, is to finish the task I’d set myself. And so I do! *Then* I kick back and listen to the latest biz mindset episode from my favorite coaches.)

So see what you REALLY want – and if it’s to stop cooking for 2 weeks while you and your team prep the launch assets, let me help you put together a plan for that. ‘Cause you’ve got the cooking, cleaning, dishes, and chore reminder-ing to take care of, but that ALL needs to come off your plate for this season. And I know exactly how to get that temporary fix for you (5 kids, remember?)

And then because I’m not a bro productivity coach, I’m going to make sure YOU are still building in (and taking!) those coffee and exercise and podcast veg-out breaks – because you still need to take care of YOURSELF.

Guess what – you’re going to have a GREAT launch. Let me help you outsource it and refuel yourself THROUGH it. Are you ready?
