The Unbusy Mom - take your time back strategies for business moms

Smarter Not Harder Ep. 5: Stop thinking other high-performing business moms know the secret.

Alyssa Wolff - Work/Life Balance Coach for Business Moms

It's just time management, following through on your to-do list, using your time buckets like crazy, and delegating something. Lots of somethings.

That’s how it’s all “fitting in” for them.

Which means you can do it all, too.

We’re going to leverage the twin turbochargers of time blocking it all out plus outsourcing everything that DOESN’T necessarily have to be done by you.

Because you’ve already gotten clear on your top priorities for this quarter and month. Which means you’ve pretty much already got your weekly to-do lists, too - you just have to jot down a few notes to yourself so that you make sure you hit those priority-based tasks.

It’s way simpler than you think.

You’ve got this!

This is the Unbusy Mom, and today we’re talking about why you need to stop thinking other high-performing business moms know the secret.

You know, there really is no secret.

It’s bubble bursting, but it’s true.

All the other high-performing business moms DON’T know more than you or follow some sort of secret code that lets them fit everything in.

It's just time management, following through on your to-do list, using your time buckets like crazy, and delegating something. Lots of somethings.

That’s how it’s all “fitting in” for them.

Which means you can do it all, too.

Like this.

We’re going to leverage the twin turbochargers of time blocking it all out plus outsourcing everything that DOESN’T necessarily have to be done by YOU. And that’s going to leave you with the confidence that everything you needed for your business to scale got done.

It’s all crossed off. You’re working the plan.

Because you’ve already gotten clear on your top priorities for this quarter and month. Which means you’ve pretty much already got your weekly to-do lists, too - you just have to jot down a few notes to yourself so that you make sure you hit those priority-based tasks.

Which means all you have to do each week is bucket them out into separate work blocks, slot them into your limited number of “work hat on” spots each week, and you’re good to go.

Then, your daily view? Is just a matter of following through on those time blocks and sticking to them like glue. “No, honey, I’m still working right now. I’ll be ready to play legos with you after lunch like I always do.”

Not feeling in the zone yet? It’s still work time - and you don’t want to shift around your hours today because you’ve got some family things going on. Okay then, 40 jumping jacks and a fresh cup of tea to the rescue.

You stick to those work hours, honor your time buckets, and you KNOW you’ll have completed those projects. Which means you’re on track for your daily and weekly goals. Which then lead to your monthly and quarterly ones.

But all YOU had to do was follow through on your task list each and every day, every separate “work time block,” and you got it done.

The rest? That’s all being delegated. Whether it’s to your team, other family members in your home, or the “maybe later” portion of your to-do list.

You’re not handling it all. ‘Cause you weren’t meant to, and you don’t have the capacity for it anyway.

You’re just going to delegate like crazy - ruthlessly, in fact - and gift yourself the support you need to hone in SOLELY on those tasks that belong in YOUR zone of genius.

Because you know that’s how you’re going to genuinely LIKE your daily experience of CEO life, and mean it. No secret resentment pockets allowed.

And then you just HANDLE whatever’s coming up for you, emotion wise, since we’re not just to-do-list cranking machines, and we can’t be happy just telling ourselves that we checked the right boxes today. Your emotions DO matter.

Take me, for example. I’d just wrapped up an ordinary Thursday workday, feeling rather grumpy. When I actually dove INTO my emotions, I realized why I’d marked down 4 wins on my daily accomplishment calendar - but actually felt very blah about the whole day!

You see, I’d had a totally different expectation for the way things would go that day - what I’d actually cross off my list - and I was still mad at myself for having to shift. Which is crazy! I’d gotten a lot of podcast batching done.

That’s always a big task, yet I’m not satisfied with myself? What gives?!

But once I let those emotions out - processed through them and looked for the “what would make this better” answers - I realized that I just needed a better plan for tomorrow. Part of my issue was fussing about “what if tomorrow goes off the rails, too.”

So I brainstormed, came up with a really good plan for the next *3* days, in fact, and off I trotted with my happiness keel restored.

But I wouldn’t have realized what was at the *bottom* of my sudden-and-unexplained funk if I hadn’t dug into the *mindset* part of what was underneath my emotions.

‘Cause I HAD had a totally successful to-do list (and time bucket) day.

So even if you’re being productive, feeling totally on top of your time management, and handing plenty of things off to your team - if you’re feeling anything “off” still about your emotions or your view of the day, just dig in further.

We’re emotional beings; it’s okay. Process with God, with your journal, or even your coach.

Let yourself lean into the FACT that you got everything you needed to done - that you ARE still on track for all those quarterly goals you set for yourself, so you CAN’T be a failure - and then go take care of the emotions part.

Let your brain catch up with itself.

‘Cause when you do - when you let yourself knock out BOTH the task list AND the mindset side of things - THAT’S when you’re going to feel like you unlocked the secret high-performing “do it all” code to succeed.

Because you took care of BOTH the strategy part AND the mental side of the entrepreneurship game - which means YOU’RE the one living that magical version of “success” in CEO life.

But it’s way simpler than you think.

Handle your to-do list - stay on track with your emotions - and God will take care of the rest.

You’ve got this.
