This is the Unbusy Mom, and today we’re talking about what “I don’t do the housework” looks like as a business owning mom.

Are you so far into the weeds of mom life that you can’t even imagine this glorious, mythical place of doing less around the house for your family?

Like you don’t even know how outsourcing would WORK for your current setup of finances and small kids and “always shrinking your favorite top” laundry helpers?

Then it’s time to get some super easy delegation hacks going - but first, we have to dig into your outsourcing mindset. Like this.

Take one deep breath – and another – and just let yourself pause for a moment. It can be your homework for today, right up front instead.

Breathe. Relax. Sink in.

And when you’re ready, visualize with me.

  • What if I could do only HALF the chores I’m doing now?
  • What if I got to use all that extra time on my business, or my hobbies, or even… myself?
  • What if I felt NO guilt at doing that much less around the house, and fully embraced my new identity?
  • What if I felt PRIDE in what my kids were learning to do, and bragged about their chore success to those around me?

What if, what if, what if?

Okay, take another breath now. Those were the good ones. Still with me?

We’re going to switch gears now and go for the heart of why you’re keeping yourself stuck. Barely staying afloat (even though you’re SO grateful for all the client work).

It’s not going to be easy to hear.

  • What are you afraid of if you turn into the mom who delegates almost all her chores?
  • Who are you afraid of being?
  • What are you believing about her maturity, her selfishness level, if she can happily do this?

I’ll pause here for another second and let your unconscious mind bubble up some answers for you.

Got them? Great.

Now, one last time, I want you to sink into another visualization with me. This time it’s your perfect day.

  • What do you love most about your morning, now that you don’t have to rush straight off to do chores?
  • What’s happening at lunch time now that you delegate?
  • What fills your afternoon? (Supper’s handled, remember?)
  • What about your supper prep-and-clean-up routine? (You’re still outsourcing here – what did you let go of?)
  • And how does your evening go? What is it filled with now?

Great. Now take a deep breath, holding that movie of your most ideal, longed-for life, and just let that sink in. Walk around it, in your mind. Get to know it.

And then when you’re ready, breathe out and come back to reality – what’s right in front of you.

I know, it’s a bit jarring. This is what you’ve got to deal with. That is where you want to go.

What happens next?

Well, what happens is you hold that vision in your mind, every day, as you look for ways to simplify, delegate, or just stop doing things around the house.

THIS is why you keep going on all the outsourcing – it’s because of that vision we just played. That YOU just created.

That’s YOUR dream life. It looks different than mine - because it’s supposed to.

Now all we have to do is gradually let it come into focus in your everyday life.

Whether that means you ask for help with the smoothie prepping (‘cause your KIDS suddenly want a to drink daily smoothies, too, when they see YOU getting one, and you can’t handle THAT amount of cold-stuff-prepping-workload), or start teaching your 10-year-old how to boil the angel hair and simmer the jarred pasta sauce for spaghetti night every week.

You GET to do this (if it would help your mental space and post-work parenting workflow).

So pick a time of day first – whichever one you want – from your visualization and let’s take steps to make it happen.

  • Is it that gloriously slow, relaxed morning?
  • The non-lunch scramble?
  • Your quiet afternoon?
  • That new, mostly-delegated dinner time routine?
  • Or your relaxing evening session?

You choose.

And the neat thing is, you already know exactly what’s different, and what you need to change here. Because you just saw all of it. The end state you’re going for.

All you have to do now is start constructing that reality in your current daily life.

Oh, and by the way – you may need to revisit your middle prompts here if you start running into difficulties.

Clear out the mindset junk about “won’t I be selfish” and “what am I afraid of” if you start delegating.

So keep that in your back pocket if you suddenly run into snags when making over your time of day to match your ideal.

Okay? I know that was a different episode than usual, but I hope it really helped you get a grip on what you want your day to look like, and what might be keeping you stuck.
