The Unbusy Mom: For entrepreneur moms who don't want their business to take over their life.

By 2pm, everything starts feeling harder.

The focus is gone. The kid patience is pretty much nonexistent…. And the copy project that actually needed your best thinking is still sitting there.

But one day... 2pm is just 2pm again. ;)

Most moms notice when their energy disappears - I'm usually more interested in what got it first.

☕️ Thursday at the Coffee Shop

Drop into Voxer anytime Thursday.

Bring me the one project your to-do list has basically adopted at this point. 😂

Maybe it's a site update.

Maybe it's a launch decision.

Maybe it's something that's been living on your Tuesday list for... longer than either of us would like to admit. 😂

I'll wander through Voxer with a cup of coffee and tell you what keeps catching my eye.

No presentation. No "come prepared." No homework (unless you ask for it).

Just a conversation about the business thing that absolutely refuses to graduate. 😂

Coffee Shop Thursdays this series:

☕️ August 20 - The Busy Trap

☕️ August 27 - The Busy Trap

☕️ September 3 - The Busy Trap

I'll keep taking conversations throughout the day ‘til Thursday fills up.

The day starts out fine.

You answer some emails. Finish a client task. Find the missing water bottle that was apparently invisible to everybody except you. (The usual.)

And by lunch, you're still getting things done - so naturally, you keep going.

You finish one thing and move straight into the next. Answer one more message. Wrap up one more task. Take care of one more thing while you're already thinking about it.

Nothing feels wrong - at least not enough to stop….

But if you paid attention, you'd probably notice something - the day doesn't feel quite the same as it did an hour ago.

You're still working. It's just taking a little more effort. A little more concentration. A little more convincing yourself to stay with it.

Not enough to sound any alarms. Just enough to notice…. Except most of us don't.

Because you're almost done. Or you just want to clear one more thing off the list. Or it feels ridiculous to stop now when you're already halfway through.

So you keep going. A little longer. Then a little longer.

Then you open the launch doc. Reread the same sentence 3 times. Open a tab and forget why. Spend 5 minutes deciding whether the button should say “Get started” or “Learn more”…. like this is now a major business crisis.

The launch doc isn't actually harder than it was this morning - it just got scheduled after 6 hours of your brain being useful to everybody else.

‘Cause that's usually the point where entrepreneurs finally step away. Not because they planned to - because they have to.

The interesting part is that the wall didn't appear out of nowhere. You probably passed it 20 minutes ago. Maybe an hour ago…. But you just kept going.

The funny part? Your brain has usually been filing complaints for a while before you finally notice them.

‘Cause the moms who seem to have more energy at the end of the day aren't necessarily working less - they're just noticing sooner.

They're noticing the moment things start requiring a little more effort than they did before. The moment their attention starts slipping. The moment they're pushing instead of moving.

And they're willing to respond to that information before they hit empty.

Until one day, 2:15pm stops being the moment Google Calendar personally turns against you.

Because your brain usually starts getting weird BEFORE you find yourself aggressively staring at a proposal and hoping the next sentence writes itself.

And apparently that's useful information. ;)
