Social Media is called SOCIAL media for a reason. Yes its a great way to build #MindShare, but it needs to be done the right way. People often forget to be Social about it.
This game is really about the value you provide, the connection you have, and whether or not people see you as not only an advisor, but that they see you as their trusted advisor. Once you build that, your competition will have a very hard time beating you.
The equation really isn't all that complicated, it just comes down to how bad you want it, and if you are willing to put in the work consistently enough to get it.
