Being Heart Smart: A Whole Person Approach to Health
Dear Listeners,
February is Heart Month. The aim of heart month is to raise awareness, bring attention to cardiovascular disease (CVD), and promote healthy lifestyles which will hopefully lead to a reductions in the rates of cardiovascular disease on a global scale. There are several factors that contribute to the increased risk of CVD including lifestyle and environmental. Some of these risks are physical inactivity, diet, tobaccos use, harmful use of alcohol, pollution (WHO, 2021). As you consider the things that increase the risk of CVD think about what small changes you can make to reduce your risk. Do regular physical activity, reduce salt intake, eat more fruits & veggies, avoid tobacco use, avoid harmful use of alcohol and remember to visit your doctor. Our guest this episode says that we must also look beyond these risks factors and understand that strategies to reduce the risks that lead to cardiovascular disease must be unique to your needs.
