Dear Listeners,
This week we continue to celebrate National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. As we know, there are many benefits to breastfeeding for mom and baby. It is recommended that infants are breastfed exclusively for at least 6months (WHO, 2023). Some of the benefits of breast feeding include, protection against gastrointestinal infections, provides half or more of a child’s energy needs between the ages of 6 and 12 months, Children and adolescents who were breastfed as babies are less likely to be overweight or obese and many other benefits (WHO, 2023). Some benefits for moms include, reduction of the risk of ovarian and breast cancer.

Feven also highlights the reasons why breastfeeding is beneficials and important, the services and supports provided through Harmony Birthing Services, challenges new moms may face when it comes to access to information, support and finances, barriers that may prevent moms from breastfeeding, what constitutes a truly breastfeeding friendly environment and more. This riveting episode is filled with information on breastfeeding, services, and much more.
