Watch Sunsets With Me
Non-Negotiables as Nervous System Nourishment
Today, I want to talk about something that has been such a foundational part of my own healing and a cornerstone of the work I do with clients non-negotiables.
Not just from a “check-it-off-the-list” mindset, but through the lens of nervous system healing. It’s not just about nervous system regulation, but rewiring. And rewiring means bringing safety back into your body rebuilding that connection between mind and body, and learning to truly listen to the cues your body is giving you.
Now here’s the thing: when we first start creating non-negotiables, it can feel really uncomfortable. If your nervous system is still in a state of chaos, it might say, “This doesn’t feel safe,” or “This feels like pressure.” But the truth is, most of us have been operating from old patterns, patterns that were built for survival, for keeping ourselves safe.
So why do we set non-negotiables? Because they give us a safe container to begin gently shifting those patterns. It’s not about forcing. It’s about promising something to yourself and keeping that promise in a way that feels nourishing, not punishing.
Think of it like this: if you made a promise to your child or someone you love deeply, you would honor that promise, right? But we break promises to ourselves all the time because we don’t always believe we’re worthy of that same love, that same follow-through.
That changes now.
The key is to choose non- negotiables that feel supportive and realistic. It might be:
- Getting outside for five minutes of movement each day.
- Cooking one nourishing meal at home for dinner for a week.
- Practicing one breathwork session.
- Saying one prayer or gratitude at night.
Whatever it is, it’s not about perfection. It’s about showing up even when life feels messy and saying: I matter enough to follow through.
And when it doesn’t happen? Instead of shame, we get curious:
- What came up in your body?
- What kind of stressor pulled you out of alignment?
- Did you nourish yourself with food?
- Were you able to move?
- Did your nervous system feel safe enough?
We begin to notice patterns. And those patterns are the path to healing.
Non-negotiables are not just tasks. They are sacred tools of transformation.
They help us learn how to trust ourselves again. They help us rewire our nervous systems in a way that feels gentle, sustainable, and full of grace.
This week, I invite you to choose one simple non-negotiable. One thing you can commit to each day not out of pressure, but as an act of love. And as you follow through, notice how your body responds. How your energy shifts. How your heart softens.
Let this be the week you keep a promise to yourself.
As always, you are so deeply loved, and I am cheering you on every step of the way.
Until next time, thank you for watching the sunsets with me.
