The shoebill (Balaeniceps rex) is a large, prehistoric-looking bird native to the swamps and marshes of East Africa, particularly in countries like Uganda, Sudan, Zambia, and Tanzania. Known for its distinctive shoe-shaped bill, which gives it its name, the shoebill is a solitary and elusive bird.
