Hey everyone. Welcome back to Red Lips Real Talk. This is the season finale, the end of season one, and it's just two of us today. I'm Monica, and with me is Maritza. That's right Monica. It's just the two of us today. Just the two.
Just the of us in, of you and I, you and I, and, and it's a little quiet without our usual crew, but we're gonna make the best, uh, you know, to make this episode fun. Yeah. Jasmine Deibys and Jessica are all taking a well-earned break, spending time with their family and getting so much needed r and r ladies, if you're listening, we miss you, and I hope you're enjoying your family time.
Yeah. I don't know why they didn't take me with them. I know, but I know I just came back from vacation. But you know, I wouldn't have mind to go again. Yeah, pack me in your bag. Pack me in your bag. Aw, yes, ladies, we miss you. And before we dive into today's episode, we wanna give a huge shout out to our listeners for sticking with us throughout the whole season.
Whether you've been here since episode one. Or just started listening recently. We are so grateful that you've joined us on this crazy ride. And speaking of listeners, we are gonna have a little giveaway. We are announcing it on our social media. And in order for you to win, you have to listen to the end of the episode to name that tune.
We're gonna play a song at the end, and you just have to let us know the name of the song and then you can be a winner of the giveaway. That's right. So stick around. Wow. So we are what, 18 episodes in Maritza already? Yeah. It's been quite a ride, a great journey, and uh, I cannot believe we, we made it to 18 episodes.
That's crazy. Yeah. I can, I can still remember episode one. It feels like we just started, you know. That that first day, that was an all day event. Learn of a a learning. Yeah, learning everything in one day. I know, but you know, that was, it was fun, but it was a long day. It was, yeah. And looking back on all the 18 episodes, Maritza, which one stands out to you the most?
Which one do you think is like your favorite? My favorite episode has to be the nostalgia vibes. Ooh, that's a good one. It brought back a lot of memories. Of our youth. I mean, we were, we were friends back then and just talking about those times, even though it was hard times. But I think we made it, we made it better for each other.
You know, the time we spent together, the music, um, the places we went to, uh, we had a lot of fun. And, um, listening to that episode just brings. It just floods all those memories back. And we sang a lot of songs in that episode too, that it's kind of like they just don't have music like that today. No, they don't.
And, and I know there's hip hop now and new music. I don't know any of the new songs. If you were to ask me, Hey, what song is this? If it's a new song on the radio, I have no, I no clue what, no. Who or what. You know, the song is, um, I'll probably sing the words, but I, I wouldn't know who it is. Right. Or the name of the song.
That's just Exactly. But back then, all those artists, you know, that, that was just my, my music. Yeah. It was really, really good times. Um, I'm gonna play a clip. Hold on. I wanna play a clip. Oh, you have a clip? Yeah. Awesome. That's, uh. Gosh, that was, that was some serious weekends, bro. Everybody, seriously, some serious weekends here, let me tell you, we, our generation in hip hop started that whole memorial weekend here in, in South Florida.
Well, it was during that time, south Florida was known for those festivals. And that's where you showed up. And then all those cute boys from HMO showed up O thank, thank God for South Beach fifth Street. Fifth fifth Street, three days. That's where they used to have the, I don't know if they still do this anymore, but back in the days you would just drive your car down.
Fitz Street. Yes. What do they call that? Cruising. Yeah. And you would just play the music in your Yeah. I remember de Drive, we would just flirt with like the key out out. It was even like that in Fort Lauderdale Beach. We call it the Strip. Strip. Same thing over there. Yeah. Yeah. You just hung out. Mm-hmm.
The younger people like are missing out on that. Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah. Aw. It was good reminiscing. Yeah, and like I said, the music, I mean the hip hop, it's still part of me today. I mean, it's, it, you could look at my playlist and I still have music from like, you know, old school hip hop is still in my playlist today and it's still a big part of who I am.
Um, it reminds me of when I used to work in this company a few years ago that. I used to bring the book of CDs, remember those book of CDs that we used to carry around everywhere? Yeah. And he, and there was a younger guy in my department, I mean, not that much younger, but he was younger than me, and he's like, Hey, I, I left my CDs at home.
Can I borrow your book? You know, to, you know, so I can play music? And I'm like, sure. So he took it and you know, he took some CDs out so he can listen to music. And when he brought it back to me, he's like. He goes, I was not expecting to find the music that was in there. You know, like, I didn't think to find that in there.
He goes, I just view you like differently now. You know? He was like, I can't believe you listen to hip hop. 'cause I was, I was a mom at that time. I, I had just, you know, just become a mom of my, of my first child. So he was like, oh my God, I just see you different. And I'm like, yeah, well. That's, this is, this is it right here.
And then after that games, yeah. He used to bring me, um, after that he started making me CDs. Yeah, it was, it was Aw. Yeah. Carrying around CDs. CDs. Now we don't have to do that, but I mean, I You still have them? I still have them, yeah. I still have them. That's good. I, well, too, I mean it help, I have a jukebox in my house too, so That's nice.
That's right. Yeah. And you put some cd, you change it up. Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm. I think we got rid of most of our CDs. I wish we would've kept them. Oh no, I still have them. Um, we had CD books and stuff too. Yeah. And then because my brother was a dj, we also had the vinyls. Do you have, do you have a record player?
I do. Well, I don't, my daughter does. Okay. So I use hers. Oh, that's cool. And if she leaves and takes hers, then I'll have to buy a new one because I'm gonna start collecting vinyls again. Yeah. I, there's something about like hearing the crackle in the right, in the vinyl, putting that needle on the record.
Yeah. Yeah. That, uh, I, I, I like that. And, you know, I wanna have a collection. Have you, have you ever watched, ever watched, um, suits? Yes. Yep. You see that, that collection he has that he, yep. I wish I had that. Yeah, that was pretty cool. Wall, just vinyls. Yeah. And every time, every night he would play a record and just mm-hmm.
Yeah. That's, that's my goal. To have a wall of vinyls. Um, what, what about you, like, um, what is your one ofs My favorite episodes, uh, is. The earlier ones, um, it was, uh, can we have it all? Mm, that was a good episode. You know, we talked about, um, being able to have it all, whether or what that meant to us or what that meant to each person.
Yeah, that was a good conversation. Um, whether you're a mom or not, you know, working or stay at home, whatever your view is of having it all. But then towards the end of the episode, I know we were talking about closing and, and stuff, and, um. Deb brings up Janet Jackson style. Mm. Yeah. And how she loved that.
I know where you're gonna say, and then I don't know where it came from. We're talking about songs. Yeah. And then Jasmine comes out with the, I used to do the pleasure principle in the bathroom. That was hilarious. That was hilarious. I'm gonna play a clipper on it. She didn't, she didn't mean it to come out that way, but it did.
Oh my God. She said it was hilarious. And then how she caught it, right? She's like, wait, what? What did I say? Hold on. She was dancing in the bathroom. Hers definitely showed way more than I was showing at Universal was. And then you'd have the little necklace, like on your waist. The little, uh, little The chain gold.
Yes, the little chain. The chain. Yeah. You gotta looked that up. I loved all her songs back then, but I always remember those videos. Videos were a lot popular back then, right? Yeah. MTV. Yeah, that was the thing. I loved it. I was in the bathroom doing the pleasure principle.
Me and my neighbor we're talking about a dress up like that. I wasn't pleaing myself that came out the know the, I just realized what I said.
I'm gonna, it's still funny. That was funny. And then when Deb was like, uh, describing one of Janet Jackson's dancers. And Jasmine's like, he's a drug addict. That was funny too. Oh my gosh. Oh, we had so much fun. Yeah. Doing that episode. It was so funny. Another one for me that I, that I really liked was, uh, marriage Unfiltered.
Oh, that was a good one. That was a really good one. Yeah. Even though I didn't really speak much on that one. Mm-hmm. Um, I took it all in because you ladies, you know, not, you didn't get too personal and stuff, but the, the inform. The advice, right, that you gave your perspectives on relationships, you know, it was different.
And, um, you were dropping some knowledge. What? Yeah. Stay in the boat. Stay in the boat. That was a one. Stay in the boat even when you wanna jump out and go swim and go swim away, but stay in the boat. Stay in the boat. Yeah. Yeah. That was the, that was the Mel Robins, uh, yeah. Episode that I referred to, but podcast that you listened to.
Yeah, that was a good one. That was a good episode. I really, I learned a lot from that one. Yeah, I agree. I, I. It was nice listening to everybody talk their perspective because, you know, it's like you, you're not alone and you don't have all the stuff that we go through. We, we all go through our own thing.
So it was good. Yeah, the advice and hearing everybody's stories. I know we had a lot of good episodes. Um. The Gen X versus Gen Z. You weren't there for that one. I wasn't there for that one. But that must have been a real special. But it was, it was very special to me. 'cause I had my daughter on that one.
Exactly. And, um, Jessica had her niece on there. Mm-hmm. And we, we were able to get the. The other side, the other perspective of the younger ladies and the girls did a great job too. They did. They, they, you know, put us in our place when it came to how we take selfies. And we learned a lot from that show too, with the different color horrors.
I use emojis. And the emojis. Yeah. Yeah. What's a lot, what's not the texting? The texting. Yeah. We learned a lot in that one too. I heard it. I heard it. I wasn't there for that episode, but I did hear it. It was a really good episode. I enjoyed hearing Leticia and um, Julissa. Yeah. Talk on that one. What about the least favorite episode?
I think we can all agree that it was social media. Yeah. Not that it was a bad episode. It was a good episode. Um, we created. Good content. We had information. It was just getting to that point. That was, uh, a little crazy. Yeah, it was. It was the behind the scenes. Yeah. Um, that show was cursed. And every time we tried to record it, how many times Monica, did we record this episode?
It was like four times. Four times. And something went wrong every time. Every time. Well, the first three, 'cause I think the fourth time is when we finally got it right. But there was the equipment going bad. Not, you know, the lights going out. Mm-hmm. Computers talking, making noise, your printer going off. We just kept having issues with it.
Everything had a mind of its own. Yeah. Oh, and the noise, the boom right in the back. The quality. The quality, the sound quality. So it wasn't, it wasn't four times recorded in one shot. No, no. It wasn't one shot we had to keep. We had to come back. Right, exactly. Yeah. We had to keep coming back to record this episode.
Yeah. Four times. And we took, we took content out of the show because we, we were referring to something. Yeah. In the show. There was something on there that we were gonna refer to. Yeah. But by the time we recorded it. The last recording, it was just old news and it wouldn't have made sense. Right. So we removed that and then, you know, we, we ended up getting it right.
So, yeah, it was, it was just a, a little, it was a good show. It was just, it was, it was the cursed show. Oh that. But it was fun. It was fun trying to get to, we did, we did laugh a lot and we drank a lot of wine trying to get through those, uh, four recordings, but, and we almost gave up on it 'cause we were like, forget it, we're not gonna talk about social media.
We're like, if that fourth episode does not come out right, we are done. That's it. Moving on. Luckily we got it. We, we got through it and you know, a good show came outta that. So, looking back on, on this first season. Um, Maritza, what's been the biggest challenge of being a host on this podcast? Um, for me it's, it was trying to find my voice, um, you know, like speaking up, because I think we all know that I'm a bit of an introvert, so I tend to sit back and just listen.
Yeah. Rather than talking. Me too. I I, I get that too. Me too. Yeah. I can be an introvert too. For me, it's, um. The video. Mm-hmm. Like I know we wanna be recording ourselves. We've tried a couple times. And I'm just not, I've not, I don't like being in front of a video camera, you know, but I don't mind pictures, but video.
Right. I just feel quirky. That's just, that's me. That's the biggest challenge for me. Hopefully, you know, I know for the next season we're gonna be recording videos, so. Mm-hmm. You gotta get over it. We do. We do have to kind of get over that. And I know we've, we've talked about, um. Be more active on social media on our Instagram page, like lives.
Yeah. And, um, that's all recording. Monica. That's gonna require a lot of video. It's gonna require a lot of video. You're gonna be seeing my face more on there. So what's been the most rewarding part of the podcast for you, Monica? What do you think? Wow, the most rewarding part. Um. Being able to be a little more vulnerable.
I know. Sharing, for me, sharing things is not easy. I'm a private person. Mm-hmm. So coming to the table and getting on the mic, you know, um, at first was a little uncomfortable, but I'm getting more, I'm getting used to it and it's, it's coming out more naturally now for me. Right. And so that is rewarding and I'm, I'm learning a lot.
Um. About myself in the process, which I'm also enjoying. Yeah. For me it's been just spending time with you guys, you know, sitting at the table, chatting, having these conversations. You know, we've had a lot of laughs. Um, but most importantly, like just starting the podcast. Yeah. That's it. Just, yeah. Because, I mean, yeah, we're 18 episodes in, but how many times have we've talked about, Hey, we need to start a podcast, you know?
And we did it. We started a podcast and here we are. Here we are. This is the reward. This is the reward. Yeah. Yeah. I, I know it's a little surreal still, even though we're 18 episodes in. Mm-hmm. It's still like a little surreal for me. Right. And I know we're going on season two, so Yeah. It's, I still think this is like crazy.
But it's fun. Yeah. I'm having fun along the way. Yeah. Sitting down with you guys. Yeah. Spending time with my girlfriends. Yeah. Wine time. Wine time, wine. Time. Time. And learning about each other still. Yeah. Because we're all in different phases of our lives and you know, we've grown, we've evolved. We're different right from when we first met.
Yeah. And so being at this table, doing this podcast. I'm also learning about you ladies again. Yeah. It's Which I love. It's true. Yeah. 'cause there's certain things that we've said and I'm like, oh, I didn't, I didn't know that. Yeah. What's one thing you wish you knew before you started this podcast?
Oh, I don't know. Um, I mean, I think we dove, we dove in not knowing what we were getting ourselves into, but that was exciting. Um, I thought we were really excited about all of it, but I guess one thing that I think we should, we should have known maybe, or, you know, with more research is to have. More episodes recorded Prior to?
To launching. To launching? Yeah. Yeah. I guess we didn't, we didn't have like, you know, I think they say that you should record like four or five. You know, that would probably been good practice for us. Yeah, for real. That would've been good. Yeah. 'cause we spent a whole day trying to figure it out, but, 'cause we spent one day figuring it out, then recording.
Mm-hmm. You know? But, um. Yeah, no, I know. Well, when we, we decided to do this and, you know, we were saying we're gonna do research. Um, I, you know, we went in there, we started doing some research, but everything you come across is like, oh, it's so easy. Yeah. Just pull out your phone and press record. Yeah. And it, it is all you need to do a podcast.
So, so it is kind of easy to do that. It is. It's just the back end of it. Right. So Right. The editing and the, you know, all the logistics. Yeah. I wish I knew exactly right. The logistics of it all. Mm-hmm. Prior to starting, of course. Right. Having those episodes recorded before we launched episode one would've been nice.
Um, knowing how long. It's gonna take to actually edit something. Oh yeah. That's so, it sounds good. Yeah. You know, the editing took a, that was a learning. It takes a long time. It's a, it was a learning experience. Yeah. And, um, even though it shouldn't take that long, but, you know, again. Never knew anything about it.
So learning that and you know, I think, um, if we would've known all this going in, we would've been better prepared. Not that we did anything wrong or, no. I think, I think everything that we did great. The experience has been great. It's just looking back back, right? I mean, I think we did awesome. Oh yeah.
With all of our episodes and we got better. And, um, and we're gonna continue to get better and we're gonna continue to get better. We have been getting better. Yeah. Yeah. But it, yeah, like you say, just looking back, just, I just wanna let the listeners know it's it. It's simple, but it's not simple. Right. You know, it's, you make the choice, you dive in, you do it.
But there is um, a lot to know. There's a lot to know. Mm-hmm. And then it's a commitment. Yeah. It's a commitment. It's a commitment you have to make if you wanna make it, you know. Good. If you want it to be something special. Yeah. You had a commit to it. Definitely a learning experience. Yeah. Um. The interviews that we've had, the guests that we've had on our show.
I mean, by the way, thank you to all the guests that, that have Yes. Been on our show guests that has shared their stories. I mean, it's, it was amazing to have you guys sit with us Yeah. Sharing your stories and, and I learned a lot, um, from those, like actually how to interview. Right. Because again, we're five ladies.
Exactly. And so learning how we can all each, um. Be involved in doing an interview. You know, it, it, it taught me a lot and I'm so grateful for that. For sure. Speaking of guest, if you can have any guests that are alive on this show, Monica, who would it be? Ooh. Hmm. One guest I would like to have on this show would be Issa Rae.
Oh, the actress. That's a good one. She's so, um, I like her. I mean, I watched her show Insecure. Insecure. Mm-hmm. When it was out in, so did I That was a great show. I loved it. I love It was funny. She was funny. Yeah. Um, and the vibe that she gave with the character kind of seems like Yeah. I like when she used to rap and she used to stare herself in the mirror, talk to herself in the mirror.
That was, yeah. And that just seemed that, that I feel like in, in the interviews that I've seen with her. That's the vibe I'm getting from her. Yeah. She's just so chill. She is chill. You know, she's, she could be my girlfriend. Mm-hmm. You know, we can vibe all day long and have wine and chill. Right. Have good conversation.
But yeah, she would be awesome to have on the show. Um, let's see. Someone not with us today, princess Diana. Mm. Yeah. It would be nice to, to get her side of the story. Yeah. And to learn what really goes on in that family. 'cause I know we got Meghan Markle talking, but I don't, I don't trust her. No. To get the insider Yeah.
The insider. I want the insights. I want the dets. Yeah. I did watch The Crown on Netflix. Right. And I, and I believe a lot of that stuff is legit. But it would've been, it would be nice to, you know, get her side. Yeah. Get the real deal. What about you? Um, for me it would be somebody in. Alive and very easy. Um, Mary j Blige.
Ooh. Yeah. I'm a huge fan and I, I grew up listening to her, so she seems real humble. If I knew her, I mean, we'd be friends, you know? Yeah. Kind of thing. And I would love to kick it with her, like if she could sit down at the table and we can interview her. Oh, that would be awesome. Yeah. She's amazing. She is amazing.
Yeah. She gives that girl's girl girlfriend vibe. Yeah. Yeah. So Maritza, what's the best piece of feedback or advice that we've received from listeners this season? What do you think? I mean, for the most part, um, we have gotten some amazing feedback. Thank you to our listeners who have contacted us and left us.
Nice reviews be about our show because, you know, keep them coming good or bad, because that's what helps us give you better content. Yeah. I know for me, I, I think, um, the last episode that we did with Dr. Han. Yes. The Menopause episode. The Menopause Show. That was a great show. I've heard from a couple people that that helped them a lot.
Mm-hmm. Which was the intent. Right. You know, it was very informative. Right. And I think we, we were learning, as we were recording and interviewing, we learned a lot, we had a lot of questions and I, we didn't wanna let her go. We didn't want her to go. We wanna part two. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like it was a, it was, we had a lot.
It was great. Yeah. That was a good episode. We got a lot of good feedback. I wanna read one of the comments. Um, this lady says, I wanted to take this moment to say thank you ladies for this episode. This meant so much to me. I'm 50 years old and I have been going through this for the past two to three years and counting.
It has been a rollercoaster ride for me. So many unanswered questions that helped. Shed some light. Thank you for being our voice and raising awareness, which is what we hope to do. Yeah. You know, we try to be, provide information and things that people probably wouldn't know they can learn and of course us learning as well a long way.
Yeah, it was a great conversation with her. I know. It was great, great conversation. And I feel bad 'cause we kept trying to. Like, no, don't leave, please. We want more. He's only, another comment that we got was that they felt like they were in their room with the girlfriends. You know? Like they were just sitting here with us.
Yeah. Just vibing with us. Vibing. Yeah. Yeah. That's a, that's, that's good. 'cause that's what we're trying to do. Right? So that's positive. That's the fuel we're going for. Yeah. What's one lesson you've learned along the way, Monica? Ooh, for me. Um. I've grown from being part of this podcast. I've learned a lot more of my strengths and never give up basically.
Mm-hmm. You know, have fun and just keep going. Yeah. Yeah. I'm, for me, it's the same thing. You know, just one thing I learned is just to have fun with it. Um, enjoy the things that make us happy. This made us happy and we were just enjoying it. We're having fun with it, and, you know. With those things, like you say, don't give up.
Yeah. You just keep going. And, you know, we've, we've had some challenges along the way with, um, recordings, like the social media that we mentioned and, um, but you know, you gotta laugh, right? You gotta laugh about it and just. Have fun. Yeah. Keep going. Yeah. Yeah. Keep trying. Keep trying because if you don't keep trying, then mm-hmm.
You're not gonna get what you want. So, speaking of not giving up, I wanted to read this little quote that I found. Um, it says, don't let those dreams fade away, dust off your old plans, and reignite that spark of passion. You have the power to make your wildest dreams come true. Don't let anyone or anything stand in your way.
Get out there and make today the start of something special. I love that. Yeah, I like that. Get up and go. Get up and go. Don't give up. So, yeah, that was just a little quote that I found since we were talking about, you know, having fun with it and, and not giving up. So now we're getting to the giveaway.
Yeah. We have a song that we're gonna play and you, the first person to answer the question on Instagram, the name of this song wins the prize.
So look out for the question this week on social media. Yeah, on Instagram, because that my friends, is the answer to the question is the answer to the question, and you will get a little giveaway. Some are giveaway, some are giveaway, some are vibes. Giveaway. Yes. I like that. So we wanna say thank you again to our host that could not be here with us.
