Marc Alcobé Talló

👋 I’m Marc Alcobé Talló — expat, storyteller, and creator of the Expat Experts Podcast. Born and raised in Barcelona, I left my hometown at 24 to pursue a career and life beyond borders. Since then, I’ve spent the last years living abroad — four years in Germany, three in Greece, and currently living in Italy. These experiences have shaped me in ways I never imagined, from learning new languages and adapting to different cultures, to navigating unexpected twists and turns in both my personal and professional journey as a UX/UI designer.

My real passion lies in connecting with people, sharing their stories, and building a community of curious minds who dare to explore life beyond the familiar. That’s what Expat Experts is all about — authentic conversations with expats from around the world who share their journeys, insights, challenges, and moments of joy as they build new lives across the globe. 🌍🎙️

Carole is an Expat Life Mentor and Consultant. Dedicated to supporting you as you navigate moving and living overseas, and making your location independent lifestyle a reality.

For 12 years Carole lived overseas, with her husband and daughter, plus assorted pets. She first moved to Tokyo, Japan in 2006 as a ‘trailing spouse’, with a 5-year-old daughter and two cats.

After five years in Tokyo – including one huge earthquake – the family moved to Berlin, Germany with one cat and a new dog. From there, they moved to Pretoria, South Africa and repatriated to the UK in 2018 with two completely different cats, the same dog, and a teenager (yikes!).

So, Carole has experience of both ends of expat life – there and back again!

For nearly 45 years I’ve been a Presbyterian pastor, serving churches in Wheaton, Illinois, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and (for five years toward the end of my career) Zürich, Switzerland.

I’ve also led mission trips, pilgrimages, and study tours to countries around the world. In recent years, I have embraced the joy and challenge of walking solo along the various Camino paths in Spain and Portugal, pilgrimages that have added depth and insight to my life. In the last few years, I’ve served two churches as an interim pastor—one in Lucerne, Switzerland, and the other in The Hague, Netherlands.

My passion for travel and adventure has informed my eight books, which explore themes of faith, life, and the human experience. My latest book, The Traveler’s Path (scheduled for late March 2025), finds meaning in all of this setting out and going places and meeting people.

Jen Katsev

Raised in a Chinese family in the heart of the Silicon Valley, I was programmed to constantly strive for success and recognition. From winning international art competitions at the age of 5 to co-authoring a #1 bestseller at 24, my need to achieve was my entire identity and drove all my decisions.

By 30, I had already started 7 businesses. I was chasing accolades, excelling at most things I tried, yet I felt disconnected, unsure of my purpose, and eventually burned out.

The combination of a failed startup, poor decisions that finally caught up, toxic relationships, and consequently falling into a depression made me realize that something need to change — me.

I committed to transforming my life. I shifted my focus from external achievements to inner fulfillment, rediscovered my inner voice and passions, and rebuilt my life on my own terms.

I didn't know I had a photographer in me until I turned 30 and the unexpected chain of events brought me all the way from Russia to Greece. I had a whole new world to discover, so JPG format and my old point-and-shoot were not bad a way to record this new chapter of my life. Never have I expected though, that what started as a fun hobby would have turned into something more.

Here I am 10 years later loving every step of my journey as a professional photographer. From learning how to tame the light and compose a shot to finding my own style and my own meaning of photography.

But I guess the best part of it all, that inspires, moves, and fuels me as an artist is being able to meet beautiful souls from all over the world, being able to witness a little fragment of their lives while sharing it with them, becoming a part of this moment and capturing it for them in my pictures!

Neil Laird is an LGBTQIA+, multiple Emmy-nominated director of historical films for Discovery, BBC, PBS, History Channel, National Geographic, and many other networks. He has produced over 100 programs around the globe that feature crumbling Egyptian tombs, lost Mayan cities, and mysterious shipwrecks at the bottom of the sea. But to his continued disappointment, he has yet to stumble upon a time machine to see these places when they were shiny and new. Prime Time Travelers, the first in a series of novels based on his years making antiquity TV, aims to remedy that grave injustice.

Scott Allen is a physician, author,  human rights advocate, detention health expert, clinician who treats adults with developmental disabilities, musician, husband, and father.

At the age of 17, he ran away from home in Connecticut to respond to the refugee crisis on the Cambodian border in Thailand in the aftermath of the Killing Fields.  That work started him on a path that led to his medical education as a physician at Brown University, international work in Southeast Asia, and then community health center work in the National Health Service Corps in Mississippi and Rhode Island.  On return to Brown, he began treating patients in the states jails and prisons, work that eventually led him to collaborate with Physicians for Human Rights on efforts to improve health and human rights of those in detention.

I’m an Irish expat, living just outside Paris with my French husband and three crazy kids. Growing up I was very shy. I felt like I didn’t really fit in. In my teens, I discovered that drinking meant I could step out of my shyness and be like everyone else. I loved languages, and with a sense of adventure, I travelled around, eventually settling in Paris. All along the way, no matter what the culture, the one culture I could always fit in with was the drinking culture!

And when I started doing all the grown-up things - career, mortgage, kids - in a foreign country, where I was never quite sure if I was getting it all right, I drank to relax, to cope with my stress and take the edge off my day.
