VICTORY OVER THE SCALE- MEASURING SUCCESS GOD'S WAY!

Lindy Schlabach - Christian Mindset & Weight Loss Coach Season 1 Episode 82

WHAT IF SUCCESS ISN'T ABOUT THE NUMBER IN YOUR HEAD, BUT OBEDIENCE TO THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT LIVES IN YOU? HOW CAN WE MEASURE THOSE NON-SCALE VICTORIES THAT OFTEN MARK THE MOST CHANGE IN OUR HEALTH:

  • Celebrate increased energy or improved mood. ARE YOU ABLE TO PUSH ONE MORE MINUTE IN YOUR WORKOUT OR DO ONE MORE PUSHUP? IT'S A WIN, MARK IT DOWN! THE SCALE CAN'T MEASURE SO MANY ASPECTS OF WHAT MAKES YOU, YOU. IT IS A TOOL, IT DOESN'T DETERMINE YOUR WORTH. ARE YOU HAPPIER IN THE MORNING?
  • Track consistency in healthy habits. ARE YOU WAKING UP EARLY AND SPENDING INTENTIONAL TIME WITH YOUR HOLY FATHER AND IN HIS WORD? CELEBRATE IT! ARE YOU MAKING TIME TO EXERCISE A FEW DAYS A WEEK, WRITE IT DOWN! ARE YOUR PANTS FEELING A BIT LOOSE? WRITE IT DOWN SISTER! WHAT IS GOING WELL? LET'S START WITH GRATITUDE OVER WHAT YOUR BODY CAN DO AND SEE HOW SHE STARTS TO RESPOND POSITIVELY TO THE WORDS YOU SPEAK.
  • Reflect on spiritual growth alongside physical health. WHAT AREAS OF YOUR LIFE ARE YOU HEALING THROUGH? HOW IS YOUR FOCUS ON NON-SCALE VICTORIES SHOWING UP IN OTHER AREAS OF YOUR LIFE? ARE YOU HEARING FROM GOD MORE IN YOUR PERSONAL WALK? ARE YOU FEELING CONVICTION IN AN AREA OF YOUR LIFE? OR THE PULL TO FORGIVE?

Are you sick of trying diet after diet and NOT losing weight?

Hey there friend, I'm Lindy Schlabach, Christian Fitness & Nutrition Coach. I gained 100 pounds in my late twenties and struggled for years to get it off. Seven years ago, I found a basic system that worked and has helped me lose 90 of those pounds. I’ve been working with women in online fitness and nutrition ever since to break chains of diet culture, embrace their bodies and fueling instead of dieting.

In this podcast, I'll teach you how to:

  • • Lose Weight in a Way that honors God without obsessing about the scale
    • Meal Plan and Prep for Your Family
    • Follow a MACRO based plan that allows you to eat the foods you love.
    • Recognize and pray through triggers keeping you stuck.
    • I’ll help you Plan your week and schedule your self-care time.
    • Cultivate a spirit of self-discipline in your workouts you actually enjoy.

It's time to give God your health journey and watch Him make you new, from the inside, OUT.

So often, we focus on the number on the scale instead of how we feel or how our clothes are fitting or the envy that we have.

So often, we forget the cookie we said no to or that we make effort to park far away at the grocery to get those extra steps in, and the scale becomes an idol.

That number is a quest, and soon we've forgotten that we are fearfully and wonderfully made and seen as we are by our creator.

What if success isn't about the number in your head, but obedience to the Holy Spirit that lives inside of you?

What if we could find victory over the scale and measure our success God's way?

Are you sick of trying diet after diet and not losing weight?

Are you tired of doubting your ability to actually lose weight in a healthy way?

I am so excited about this.

So what if instead of a weekly weigh-in, we started gauging our energy levels or desire to get up and pray first thing in the morning instead of hitting snooze?

What if we start to focus on how we're stewarding our gifts to others or we're maybe spending less time on social media?

The Bible said God looks at the heart while man looks at the outward appearance.

Of course, we should be healthy, but healthy isn't a size.

It's how obedient we are to the Holy Spirit conviction that we feel over our body and the choices that we make.

So how can we measure those non-scale victories that often mark the most change in our health?

I want to share three things with you today.

So grab your pen and let's write these down.

So instead of focusing on the scale, I want you to celebrate your increased energy or improved mood.

So maybe you're minimizing sugar.

Maybe you're getting an extra walk in.

Maybe you've started a workout routine.

Are you able to push one more minute in your workout?

Maybe you can do one more push up than you did yesterday or the week before.

This is a win.

We are celebrating the seemingly small wins.

Mark it down in your journal.

The scale cannot measure so many aspects of what makes you you.

Maybe you didn't get a great night's sleep.

Maybe it's that time of the month.

Maybe you had more caffeine yesterday.

Maybe you walked extra or your joints are holding inflammation.

The scale is a tool and it's a fine tool if used with the correct assumptions.

It doesn't determine your worth.

Maybe you're waking up with more joy in the morning because you're spending more less time looking at the screen.

So you're happier.

You're more focused.

Celebrate the seemingly small things.

Write them down.

Start noticing those things.

These are ways to celebrate non-scale victories.

Number two, track consistency in your healthy habits.

Maybe you're setting your alarm five to ten minutes early and waking up and spending intentional time with your Holy Father and spending time in the Word.

That is huge.

If this is not a practice that you have made and you're doing that now, even if it's just a couple of days a week, celebrate it.

Are you making time to exercise one or two days a week, maybe three days a week?

Write it down.

Celebrate it.

Track your consistency.

Maybe your pants are feeling a bit loose.

Write it down.

What is going well?

So often, we focus on all the things we think we should be doing or how we should look or all of the ways that other people are feeling on social media.

And we're comparing ourselves.

Let's start with gratitude over what your body can do today.

And watch how she starts to respond to your positive energy and the words that you speak and think over your body.

So often, we build up all of these all or nothing mindsets.

All or nothing does not work.

I have tried the all or nothing approach countless times in my life.

I've worked with women and online health and fitness for over eight years.

I've watched people fail time and again because they try to go all in.

It's consistency over time that makes change and builds healthy habits.

All or nothing approach doesn't work because life happens.

Every single day, life happens.

And something is going to go wrong.

If you have seven days in the week and you nail one day during that week, that's amazing.

Most people don't get that.

I haven't had that in months.

Maybe you just nail one good choice every day for a couple of weeks.

And then you nail two good choices a week.

That is a win.

Track the consistency.

We're working on progress, not perfection.

We're working on obedience to the Holy Spirit regardless of the outcome.

We're not here for weight loss.

That is just a blessing and benefit of walking in Holy Spirit obedience.

Step three, reflect on your spiritual growth alongside your physical health.

What areas of your life are you healing through?

Where are you finding forgiveness?

How is your focus on non-scale victories showing up in other areas of your life?

Maybe you're hearing from God more in your personal walk.

Are you feeling conviction in an area of your life?

Or maybe there's that, you know, pull to change jobs or stay home with your kids or walk a little bit more or eat a little bit less sugar.

How is the Holy Spirit speaking to you?

Because as we start to commune with our Holy Father and seek His will and His guidance and direction in our healthy choices, our physical health is going to naturally improve because we're focusing on gratitude.

We're focusing on all of the things that we have that our body can do.

Maybe you've birthed a child.

I'm 42 years old.

I'm about to be 43.

I have a new baby.

She was the biggest blessing and miracle in our life.

We found out 12 hours before we were getting her.

We had had a failed adoption four days before.

Our lives completely changed in the blink of an eye.

And it has taken some serious intentional time with God to try to figure out this new routine in our life.

I gained eight pounds after we brought her home.

After I worked so hard last year to lose 25.

I've dropped most of that, but that's not even the point.

The point is, I have learned to sit with God and focus on all of the things I'm grateful for in the morning.

And he is helping me work through so many different unhealthy habits that have become, they're like, they're things that are good, but they're just become a habit, like spending time in prayer or spending time in the word.

Like I don't want it to be a habit.

I want my life to reflect personal intimate relationship with Jesus Christ every single moment of every single day.

And I fail at that a thousand times over and over.

But He's showing me that sitting with my baby, that the consistency in the habits that I've built are good, and I'll get back to those.

But right now, it's a different season of life.

We're not measuring success by what we think we should be or where we think we should be.

When we measure success God's way, sometimes it looks completely different than we thought.

That's where I'm at right now.

Maybe that's where you're at right now.

God has you exactly where you are for maybe a season.

Maybe you're learning something, maybe you're experiencing deep grief.

I have a very close friend, her and her husband's dad, is just diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.

It's in his liver.

And you think we have all of these times, this time, and we don't know when hard things are going to happen, when grief is going to hit.

So what does success look like in a time like that?

Sometimes it's just trusting God.

It's always about trusting God.

We don't measure success by the ways of the world.

We're taking the narrow gate that many people don't travel.

We're not focusing on the scale as a tool to measure of who we are.

We're focusing on it as a tool.

If you don't even have a scale, congratulations.

That's fantastic.

When we measure success God's way, it looks completely different.

But he is with you.

He is alongside of you.

These three things that I've shared with you, we're celebrating our increased energy.

We're celebrating improved mood.

We're celebrating one more push up.

We're celebrating all of these things that you are doing in your fitness journey.

We're tracking consistency in our healthy habits.

We're reflecting on our spiritual growth alongside our physical health.

These are all measures of success in your weight loss journey.

It's not all about weight loss.

We have to start seeking the Lord and the Holy Spirit conviction living inside of us, even if it was different than it was 30 days ago.

Let Him guide your path.

He will.

He wants to.

And I promise, as soon as you lay down control, you'll not only have lost the weight, you won't even care because He is first in your life.

He is your peace that passes all understanding.

It's at an all time level and the weight loss and the healthy healing in your mind and your habits and your forgiveness.

Like, it's just part of it when you start to lean on God and let Him guide your path.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that we get to measure our success your way and that you love us just as we are, that we were created perfectly in your image.

And we thank you, Lord, that you see us in our struggles and wherever we may find ourselves right now.

And we thank you for the opportunity to communicate with you every moment of every day and seek your will and your guidance.

Father, please remove the temptation to place weight loss or the scale as an idol in our lives.

We thank you for tools that can help us measure our progress.

But mostly, Lord, we thank you that you love us and that you call us to live healthy inside and out, not as a size, but just obedient followers of your son.

We thank you for this day.

We thank you for every person that's hearing this message.

Lord, we love you.

Lead us, guide us, break the chains that are holding us back from trusting in you in this part of our journey.

Be with those who are hurting today.

Be with those who are experiencing grief and loss and infertility and all of the struggles that we face in this life.

Lead us and guide us and help us to focus on you.

In your holy name, we pray.

Amen.

I would like you to write down one non-scale victory that you are noticing this week.

Maybe it's 10 extra steps in your day.

Maybe it's one less negative thought that you have about yourself.

I want you to write down one non-scale victory that you noticed this week.

And as you go review this podcast on Apple, you could share in your review your non-scale victory that you're noticing this week.
