WORKOUT WORSHIP! TURNING EXERCISE INTO PRAISE!

Lindy Schlabach - Christian Mindset & Weight Loss Coach Season 1 Episode 85

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 SAYS DO you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

HERE ARE 3 tips for integrating worship into exercise:

  1. Create a faith-filled workout playlist. LET THE MUSIC FUEL YOUR WORKOUTS! TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
  2. Pray during warm-ups or cool-downs. ASK HIM TO GIVE YOU WHAT YOU NEED!
  3. Meditate on scripture during stretches or walks. REMEMBER LAST WEEK I ASKED YOU TO PICK A VERSE TO ENCOURAGE YOU, REPEAT IT! JOURNAL IT. LIVE IT
  • I would like to challenge you to try a “workout worship” session this week.

I remember the first workout that I did at 250 pounds.

I could not complete the warm up.

I sat down like a fat, defeated plow.

Or at least those were the words that were playing in my head.

I was so far from God in those days.

I could only imagine what he saw when he looked at me.

A depressed, sad, anxiety-ridden overweight used to be daughter of his who used sex and food and alcohol to numb her pain.

I think sometimes if only I knew how he truly saw me and that his heart broke for me and that he loved me and in that moment wished I knew how he saw me.

It wasn't until many years later that this concept hit me with such conviction that today when I don't necessarily feel like working out, my reminder is this.

What if your workout could be your worship?

So how can we use our fitness to praise God and tap into our Holy Spirit power?

Listen, I'm doing a 20-minute primal movement workout right now that I think, oh yeah, it's quick, no big deal, in and out.

But I legit pray through the entire thing and all week I've heard him say, don't force, just allow.

Don't force, just allow.

He just keeps repeating it to me over and over and over.

So if you are struggling to get into that worship workout habit, we are going to, I'm going to share some things with you today that will help you get in the worship workout mindset.

Say that 10 times fast.

Are you sick of trying diet after diet and not losing weight?

Are you tired of doubting your ability to actually lose weight in a healthy way?

Do you wish you could find a laid out for you plan that will help you stay accountable to your goals?

Hey friend, I'm Lindy Slayball, a Christian fitness and nutrition coach.

I gained 100 pounds in my late 20s and struggled for years to get it off.

So grab your pre-workout and let's chat.

Don't forget, in two weeks, on May 22nd, I'm giving away three free one-hour coaching calls.

You'll have to go to Apple Podcasts and give me a review, then join my free community.

You can find the link in the show notes and share a screenshot of your review in the free community.

Three people will be chosen on May 22nd to receive one hour of free coaching by me.

I will answer any and all of your questions about your own personal journey.

If you want me to create a macro plan or pray through your struggles or work on triggers, the call is totally up to you.

So don't forget, go to Apple Podcasts and review the podcast and share a screenshot in the free community.

Now listen, okay, let's like switch it up and give you a little bit of extra credit.

If you go in and give me a different review on like a specific episode, maybe you could get an extra entry into the giveaway.

So I don't know, is that even a thing?

Does that work?

Give it a shot.

So 1st Corinthians 6, 19-20 says, Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit?

Who is in you?

Whom you have received from God?

You are not your own, you were bought at a price.

Therefore, honor God with your body.

So if you're not operating in your own strength in your workouts or your desire to workout, you are missing a massive opportunity to bring God into your exercise routine.

I like to jam some Jesus jams, turn it up.

I say, Lord, I need you.

Remember our prayer?

Give me what I need, Lord.

Then just go.

So a lot of times I'll pop a scoop of my pre-workout, I'll turn on my workout jams, and I'll even push play on my workout on the days that I'm really struggling to get started.

I like to sing Back to Life.

Do you know that part?

Bethel Music maybe sings it, but like at the end it says, The enemy thought he had me, but Jesus said you are mine.

The enemy thought he had me, but Jesus said.

Like I'm so not a singer, obviously, but like if I sing that in my head, it reminds me that I am not my flesh, I am the Holy Spirit living inside of me.

So let him fuel your workout.

You are his beloved.

He needs you to be strong, not just in your mindset, but in your body.

And that comes from recognizing unhealthy thought patterns.

You have to have a strong body and a healthy heart.

You need to be flexible.

You need to be able to do his work in a way that honors him.

So here are three tips for integrating worship into your workout today.

Are you ready?

So the first one is an obvious one.

I mean, maybe obvious.

Create a faith-filled workout playlist.

Let the music fuel your workouts to God be the glory.

Like if you need to sing a little bit before your workout, if you need to like ask Alexa to turn it up all the way, like just jam some Jesus jams.

But you don't want like low key music playing during your workout, right?

Like it needs to have some pep in it.

So Back to Life is a fantastic addition to your workout playlist.

Step 2, pray during your warm up and your cool down.

So during your warm up, Lord, I'm not really feeling the workout today.

If you could give me the strength I need to push through, I would just really appreciate that.

Pray through your workout.

I'll say, Lord, I'm struggling right now.

Like I need you big time.

And then at the end, when you've made it and you're in the cool down, praise him.

Thank you, God, for this body.

Thank you for pushing me.

Thank you for encouraging me.

And even if you feel like you gave your workout 50 percent, but you didn't quit, that is a celebration.

That was God showing up for you because your flesh wanted to quit.

And he pushed you through.

He will give you what you need.

Lord, give me what I need.

Lord, give me what I need.

Repeat it with me right now.

Ready?

Lord, give me what I need.

Lord, give me what I need.

Step three, while you're stretching, think of that verse that we talked about and meditate on it.

When you're out walking, listen to a faithful podcast or some worship music.

Reflect on the scripture.

Reflect on your favorite song.

Last week, I asked you to pick a verse to encourage you.

Repeat it, journal it, live it, shout it from the rooftops.

There are so many verses in the Bible that will encourage you.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Repeat that over and over and over.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Get a big pen and write it on your wrist.

Fearfully and wonderfully made.

That's your reminder that when things go negative during the day or you could even draw a little flower, that's your reminder.

When things go negative during the day, you're fearfully and wonderfully made.

Find something that's gonna encourage you.

Meditate on your scripture while you're doing your warmup and you're praying.

Meditate on God's Word.

I would like to challenge you to try a workout worship session this week.

Are you not doing a workout?

Do you need help with a workout?

Just go for a walk.

Do some sit-ups or some wall push-ups.

Do some push-ups on your knees.

Do some stepping.

I don't ever want you to jump.

Do some stepping where you hit your knees.

We call them high knees, but we don't jump.

You could do a step to the side jumping jack.

Do 10 of them, but try a workout worship session.

And then don't forget, in my free community, you can get in there and share with me what you're doing.

You can also share that on your review on Apple Podcast.

Don't forget, I'm giving away those free coaching sessions on May 22nd.

Hop in the free community.

We will encourage you.

I want to encourage you.

I share weight loss tips for Christian women.

I share encouraging recipes and scripture.

You do not have to do this alone.

When we choose to use our workout as an act of worship to our Heavenly Father, He makes us strong.

He makes us new.

I don't care if you feel ridiculous doing it.

I don't care if you don't feel like you're strong enough, if you can't use weights.

That's okay.

We all start somewhere.

At 250 pounds, I couldn't even do the warmup.

Now that workout is something fun I do on the weekends when I just want to move a little bit extra.

That was in 2005.

That was 20 years ago.

It is never too late to try again.

What if 20 years ago, I wouldn't have taken one more step?

Maybe you're 65 and 20 years ago, you started a workout and it gave you a bad taste.

It's okay.

Try again.

Start again.

It is never too late.

Your body is God's temple.

The Holy Spirit lives inside of you.

He loves you.

He wants you to be strong, body, mind, and spirit.

But don't operate on your power.

Operate on the strength of the resurrection power of the risen God, who in his words says, You have more power than I did when I rose from the grave.

Operate in that strength, not your own.

Now, speaking of workout and worship, I'm about 30 minutes past doing mine.

So, I'm gonna hop off here.

I'm gonna slam some pre-workout.

I'm gonna say, Alexa, play Ben Fuller playlist, and I'm gonna get my Jesus Jam on.

Don't forget, review the podcast, hop in the free community, share your workout.

I wanna hear from you.

And if you need a workout suggestion, connect with me on social, and I would be happy to share some with you.

I hope this message bless you.

Get to moving.

God bless.

Hey, sis, I hope you enjoyed today's episode.

If so, would you take 30 seconds and share it with a friend?

Also, please leave a quick review for the show on Apple Podcasts.

It lights me up to know this podcast is helping you.

Okay, it's time to go make a protein shake and get my sweat on.

No more standing in the kitchen waiting for motivation to appear.

I will meet you back here for another episode.

God bless.
