Done Dieting? Rebuild Trust with Your Body
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Psalm 139:14 says. For you created me in my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know them full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes say my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.How precious to me are your thoughts God! How vast the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand- when I am awake I am still with you.”
Repair Trust with Your Body. Here are the three pillars:
Step 1: Predictable Feeding -Your body feels safe when it knows food is coming. Eat every 3–4 hours. Protein every meal. Stop skipping breakfast — your hormones pay the price.
Step 2: Gentle, Consistent Movement - You don’t need to punish your body. You need to partner with it. Women over 40 benefit most from:
• Strength training • Walking • Stretching • Light cardio, in your zone 2 heart rate zone. Not extremes. Just consistency.
Step 3: Respectful Self-Talk- Your body hears you. It responds to the way you speak to it. Shift from: “She never loses weight.” to “She is healing, and she’s doing her best.”
Lord, forgive me for thinking and speaking negatively about my body. I love her Jesus, thank You for gifting her to me. Lord help her forgive me for the way I’ve abused her physically and emotionally. Help me restore my relationship with my body. Help me to love her, encourage her, move her and fuel her as she leads. Show me how to trust this body You created just for me.
Heal the places where we’ve mistreated ourselves and thank You for new mercies each day. It’s in Your Name I pray Lord, Amen.

Let's chat today on something that nobody really talks about enough. Trust. Because weight loss isn't just about trusting God, we also need to rebuild trust with our own body.
If you've been dieting off and on for the last, I don't know, 10, 20, even 30 years, your body may feel like the enemy, like she betrayed you, like it stopped cooperating, maybe even after 40. Today, we're going to repair that relationship.
This one may get tricky, but if you're ready, stay tuned. Are you sick of trying diet after diet and not losing weight? Are you tired of doubting your ability to actually lose weight in a healthy way?
Do you wish you could find a laid out for you plan that will help you stay accountable to your goals? Hey, friend, I'm Lindy Schlabach, Christian Fitness & Nutrition Coach. I gained 100 pounds in my late 20s and struggled for years to get it off.
So grab your pre-workout and let's chat. It seems like I haven't had a love-hate relationship with my body for decades. She's my bestie for the restie when she cooperates.
Yeah, she's my arch nemesis the second that she doesn't. We came home from two weeks in Florida and it felt so good the entire time we were gone. I wasn't bloated, we walked every day, the sun was shining, it was so beautiful.
I didn't even get a workout in every day, but I still felt amazing. We were home four days and the bloke came back along with my negative self-talk. Ha, very frustrating.
I love my body, I love you body. I'm trying to say that daily whether I feel it or not. Why?
Because God made me as I am, and while I may feel I am a certain way, that doesn't mean that I am. We have got to change the way we think and speak about ourselves, especially ladies over 40 who've done diet after diet over the years.
The older that we get, the harder we have to work emotionally to reach our goals. We can regain metabolism, we can live the life that God calls us to in the body that we want, but we have to work, and often times that comes with rebuilding trust.
Yes, with your body, but mostly with your unrealistic expectations of what she should look like or what she could do.
Most of us don't even give her the proper fuel or movement she needs, so she can't do what we want her to because the world has told us what is, and instead of listening to our bodies, we listen to the world and we stay in a perpetual cycle of
hunger, weight gain, and frustration. But no more. Psalm 139.14 says, For you created me in my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Your works are wonderful, I know them full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes say my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God. How vast the sum of them.
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I am awake, I am still with you. You are not broken.
You are not flawed. You are not slow. You are wonderful, complex, transformable.
So unbelievable. Before the earth was formed, he knew us, he created us. Yet we speak horrible things about our bodies.
I imagine it breaks God's heart when he sees how we talk to ourself after he made us in his image. Father, forgive us. Renew our minds and heal our words towards our bodies.
Thank you for making us who we are. I'm just going to be real with you for a hot second. Dieting damages your body trust.
After decades of eating too little, skipping meals, over-exercising, binging and restricting cycles, emotional eating, calling your body stubborn or unfixable, fat or tired, insert your negative comment here.
Your words teach your nervous system that food is unsafe, that your body is unworthy, and that weight loss is a fight. When it's not, it's your unwillingness to change your thoughts and actually eat and exercise the way you should.
We have to change the way that we think as well. Our thoughts are just as hurtful as our words when it comes to our body. I have heard women over 40 say over and over, my body hates me.
I'll never lose this weight. It's just part of aging. No, your body has been protecting you from yourself.
That is what God created us to do. So there are three pillars to creating trust and repairing our relationship with our body. Step one, predictable feeding.
Your body feels safe when she knows that food is coming. When you eat every three to four hours, she doesn't have to hold on to excess fat. Eat protein at every meal.
Stop skipping breakfast. Your hormones will pay the price. Step two, gentle, consistent movement.
You don't need to punish your body. You need to partner with her. Women over 40 benefit most from strength training, from walking, stretching, light cardio in your zone two heart rate.
Not extremes. Just be consistent. Step three is respectful self-talk and thoughts.
Your body hears you. It responds to the way you speak to her and think about her. Shift from she never loses weight to she is healing and she's doing her best.
Use the affirmations that I've given you. As you think about food prep this week, find things to make that make you feel good when you eat them. Things that are warm, comforting, and simple.
Maybe turkey chili or rotisserie chicken bowls. Try roasted veggies or egg muffins. Comfort doesn't have to mean sabotage and eating healthy should not be boring.
We eat healthy at our house and trust me, if it wasn't delicious my husband would not be on board. You can repair your relationship with your body. Feed her, move her, speak love to her, speak life to her, think life about her.
God created us. He created us. The creator of the universe created you.
He knew you before he said let there be light. He knew what your struggles would be. He knew that this would be an area of hurt for you.
Lay down your struggles, lay down your negative self-talk. Lay it down. Lay it down.
It's time to heal. It's time to let it go. This week as you spend some time in prayer and journaling, I want you to think about these two questions.
What lie have you believed about your body? And what truth is God inviting you to this year?
I want you to find a verse that's going to keep you encouraged and write it down every single day along with three things that you're grateful for and three things that you're going to do today to move towards your goal. I promise you can do this.
Father, forgive us for thinking and speaking negatively about our bodies. I love her, Jesus, thank you for gifting this body to me. Lord, help her to forgive me for the way I've abused her physically and emotionally.
Help me restore my relationship with my beautiful body. Help me to love her, encourage her, move her, and fuel her as she leads. Show me how to trust this body you created just for me.
Heal the places where we've mistreated ourselves, Lord, and thank you for new mercies each day. It's in your name I pray these things. Amen.
