Psalm 46: 1-3. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”

Journal Prompts:

  • Where has pressure replaced trust? Where are you rushing when God’s calling you to sit? What would obedience look like without urgency? How can you build rest into your schedule today?

God, I repent. My try harder and fear of failure struggle are keeping me from truly living for You and releasing the strive and try in my life. I’m laying it down Lord, once and for all. I am so tired of this fight within myself, Jesus. I surrender it all to You. I release the belief that change requires suffering Jesus, lead me to what You have for me today and help me to trust without fear of the future. Teach me how to slow today Lord, right now. I love You so much. Amen.

When something isn't working, our instinct instantly is to apply pressure, more structure, more rules, more intensity. But pressure does not produce peace. It's quite the opposite in fact, yet peace is required for change.

Psalm 46, 10 and 11 says, Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.

The Lord Almighty is with us. The God of Jacob is our fortress. Listen, stillness is not laziness.

It's alignment and it's required for true healing and it is a command by our Almighty Father. Are you sick of trying diet after diet and not losing weight? Are you tired of doubting your ability to actually lose weight in a healthy way?

Do you wish you could find a laid out for you plan that will help you stay accountable to your goals? Hey friend, I'm Lindy Schlabach, Christian Fitness & Nutrition Coach. I gained 100 pounds in my late 20s and struggled for years to get it off.

There is a strategy behind this 90 day program and it's just something that God laid on my heart and that I have helped women over the past nine years work through.

It's your turn.

So I know we're talking about this a lot lately and maybe there's a reason for you to lean in. Trying harder raises stress hormones.

Cortisol, as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, especially for us ladies over 40, like we get rid of cortisol 40% slower than before we turn 40. And we have to find ways to lower our stress because stress hormones increase our cravings.

They slow our metabolism and they shut down our fat loss. Your body cannot heal in survival mode. So every time you skip meals or overexercise or shame yourself, your body hears danger, stop, stop, halt.

She does not hear discipline.

She hears danger, protect.

So we just read the last part of Psalm 46 earlier, but I'd like to encourage you with the beginning of that Psalm. Verses 1 to 3 says, God is our refuge and strength and ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their struggling, quake with their surging.

God is our refuge and strength and ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore, we will not fear.

The entire earth could fall apart. The entire world could fall apart. He is still our refuge and he is our strength.

And what has you, sister? You need not fear. God, the creator of the universe, designed our bodies so perfectly, didn't he?

Think about a woman's body who was created to grow and feed her baby. Think about a man built with strong hands and arms to build and lead. Think about healing from sickness or the way our joints and tendons move.

It really is fascinating when you think about it. God also intentionally designed your nervous system. And when we regulate our body, we can actually sense true hunger.

We know how to stop when we're full and we can release the stored energy. A stressed body can't do this. This is why surrender and rest are not optional.

It is required in order to meet the goals that God has placed on your heart. It's physical, it's biological, it's emotional, it's spiritual. I want you to ask yourself today where pressure has replaced trust within yourself.

Where are you rushing when God's calling you to sit still?

And what would obedience look like without urgency?

And how can you build rest into your schedule today? You are stuck because you continue to try and strive instead of surrender.

And until you learn to release the cortisol, to plan your meals, to move your body, to do some strength training, to drink your water, to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep, that cortisol stress hormone, especially if you're trying to lose weight after the

first of the year, like so many women do, if you're not managing your stress, if your finances are out of whack, if your marriage is on the rocks, if your kid is struggling in school, you've got to find a way to release that cortisol. I was working

with a client this week, and she's like, well, I really don't have, you know, besides walking, I really don't have a hobby. And so as we were continuing to chat, she told me that she lives along a creek and she loves to just sit outside and watch the

birds. And I was like, girlfriend, there's your cortisol release. Just sit and watch the birds. Take an hour, put your phone away, and just sit and watch the birds.

What a beautiful way to release cortisol. What a beautiful way to release stress. Go for a walk, read a book, take a nap.

Do something to get the stress out of your body. Do some box breathing, do some deep breathing, do some diaphragm breathing. Breathe through your whole chest so that your back expands.

We have to find a way to release stress. Trying harder is why you're still stuck. Be still and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord Almighty is with us.

The God of Jacob is our fortress. God is our refuge and strength and ever present help in trouble.

Therefore, we will not fear.

Though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar in foam and the mountains quake with their surging, God is our refuge and strength and ever present help in trouble.

Therefore, we will not fear.

You don't have to fear. You don't have to live in stress. The Bible does not call us to stress.

He calls us to trust, to let go, to know that even in your worst moments, he is there.

He is there.

Stop trying harder.

Start surrendering.

Father, I repent. My try harder, my fear of failure, struggle are keeping me from truly living for you and releasing the strive and try in my life, Lord. I'm laying it down right now once and for all.

I am so tired of the spite within myself, Jesus. I give it all to you. I release the belief that change requires suffering, Jesus.

Lead me to what you have for me today and help me to trust without fear of the future. Teach me to slow down today, Lord, right now. I love you so much, Lord.

Lead me to a cortisol-reducing activity, Father. Help me to find stillness and rest in you today.

Amen.
