You’re Not “Trying” - You’re Negotiating With Sin

1 Thessalonians 5:17-24: Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
PRACTICAL STEPS:
1: CALL IT WHAT IT IS- 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us.
2: SET CLEAR BOUNDARIES
Matthew 5:33-37; Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’ But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.
3: DECIDE AHEAD OF TIME- Proverbs 22:3-4: The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it. The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.
Proverbs 21:5; The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.
4: REPLACE—DON’T JUST REMOVE- Romans 13:14 Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh.
5: STOP JUSTIFYING- James 1:14: Each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.
God, Show me where I’ve been compromising. I mean, let’s be real Father, I know there are areas I know of, but I’m guessing there are others I’ve looked past. Give me clarity on what needs to change and help me stop negotiating and start walking in obedience. I’m so sick of my complacency and excuses. Thank You that You love me and only see good in me Lord. I know I don’t have to earn anything from You, but I do want to honor and glorify you in my choices, my thoughts and my actions. Strengthen me to follow through Lord, with the power of Your Holy Spirit that lives in me. Thank You Jesus, it’s in Your Name I pray, Amen.
ACTION STEP: Decide what your “no” is, pray for strength, then stick to it. No excuses.
