Because rain brings life.

The earth needs that nourishment so that in the coming weeks we’ll see the most beautiful signs of spring… buds forming, flowers blooming, gardens growing.

But it made me ask myself something.

How are we nourishing our own bodies?

Because just like the earth, we cannot bring forth life, energy, or light to others if we are depleted.

We’ve all heard the phrase: You cannot pour from an empty cup. We run. We hustle. We care for everyone else. We forget to nourish ourselves.

So today I want to talk about something very simple that I love adding to my plate… Red cabbage.

It’s rich in vitamin C, which supports our immune system, and contains powerful antioxidants that help reduce inflammation in the body. The beautiful purple pigments—called anthocyanins—support heart health and cellular protection.

And friends, when we are on a healing journey… or simply on a journey of caring for the body God has given us… those nutrients matter.

But here’s what I love most about red cabbage.

It’s simple. You don’t need a complicated recipe. Sometimes nourishment looks like slicing up a little cabbage, adding a splash of water to a pan, letting it soften, maybe adding garlic and Baja Gold sea salt. It is Real food. It is Real nourishment.
It is Real care for the body.

As I listen to the rain outside this morning, I’m reminded that growth requires nourishment.

The earth receives rain so it can bring forth life, and we must nourish ourselves so we can bring forth our light into the world; we cannot give what we do not have.

So today, this is your gentle midweek reminder: Take care of your body. Eat something colorful. Drink your water. Move your body. Step outside, and breathe in the fresh air after the rain.

When we nourish ourselves well… we are better able to show up for the people we love, and the work we are called to do.

Quick Red Cabbage Idea to Share

Here’s one of my favorite quick ways to prepare it:

• Slice red cabbage thin
 • Add to a skillet with a splash of water
 • Add minced garlic
 • Lightly sauté for about 5 minutes
 • Finish with Baja Gold sea salt

Simple. Nourishing. Beautiful on the plate.
