welcome back to the mindset reset for your best year yet. I'm ash and this is episode four. I cannot believe that we have flown through these episodes so quickly. We only have one more episode left of this series. I really genuinely hope that you have enjoyed this series. I hope that it has been beneficial for you not Not only you being able to reflect on the year that was and who you were and what you achieved and all of those different important things, but I really hope it's allowing you to think about the year ahead and who you want to be moving forward and what you actually want to achieve. I hope this podcast series has not just been something that you listen to and think, wow, yeah, this is really cool, but something that you've listened to, where you focused on what you can actually do to implement into your own life the things that you've been learning in the podcast, because that's really important. That's where the work is, that's where the change happens, and I hope I've given you enough to be able to do that in your everyday life.
Speaker 1:If you are enjoying the series, please feel free to leave a rating for me, and by feel free I mean please do. There is seven of you that have left a rating so far, and it means the absolute world to me. I can't actually see who's left a rating. So if you are one of those seven people, thank you so much. I'm so appreciative of you you guys tuning in. There's so many of you that tune in every single week and, like, I can't see the names of people, but it's similar numbers every single week, so I'm assuming it's the same people every single week. I'm greatly appreciative of you. I'm appreciative that you're here, I'm appreciative of your support and if you could please leave a rating. That's going to help me so much in being able to grow the podcast, and one of my big goals for 2025 is to grow this podcast. It's to show up really consistently for you guys to talk more about psychology and mindset and our nervous system and just understanding ourselves so, so deeply and really motivating you guys and inspiring you guys and empowering you guys to go after every single thing you want, while equally knowing the tools of how you can actually utilize your brain and your nervous system and your mind to actually make that happen.
Speaker 1:I've also since started my new business, which is called Built For Better. If you aren't already following my new Instagram called Built for Better. Get your booty over there, because that is where all of my content is going to be, that is related to psychology and mindset, and, once again, I appreciate your support. It does not go unnoticed and I really, really do value and remember the people that have supported me from day one and helped me grow my business and help me have bigger impact, because without you guys, I would not be able to do this. So very, very grateful If you want to head over there and follow that. I would be internally grateful to you.
Speaker 1:So over the last few episodes, we've uncovered the patterns that are holding you back. We've focused on rewriting the beliefs that define your reality, and we have also focused on strengthening your resilience so that you can actually face challenges head on, because we all know we are all going to face challenges over the next 12 months and, rather than try and avoid the challenges, we want to be the people that are super equipped and mentally strong enough to get through them. Now it is time to use all of that work and channel it into something really powerful, which is your future self. This episode is about getting real with yourself. It's about asking yourself who do you actually want to be, what kind of life do you actually want to live and, most importantly, how do you start embodying that version of yourself today? Because the thing is, the future isn't something you wait for. It is something that you build. If you're waiting for the perfect time or you're hoping that one day everything's just going to fall into place, it's time to really just let go of that idea, and I don't mean to like burst your bubble, and I truly, truly believe in things like manifestation and all of that beautiful stuff. I'm hoping to do an episode soon on manifestation.
Speaker 1:I'm currently learning even more about manifestation before I bring that to you on how our brain actually works and how we can utilize our brain and our nervous system to actually manifest the life that we want from a scientific, evidence based perspective, which is really really cool. But I do believe all of that to be true, and I also believe that a lot of people think that they can just sit and imagine the life that they want and hope for the life that they want and then think it's going to happen, and then, when it doesn't happen and it doesn't fall into our lap, we become really disheartened and we start to be really harsh on ourselves. We start to believe that we're not capable of the life that we actually want. We start to believe that other people are luckier than us. We start to fall into this trap of comparison of looking at what everyone else has rather than focusing on who we need to be to build the life that we actually want.
Speaker 1:I believe wholeheartedly, to my core, that whatever you want to achieve, you actually can Literally anything your biggest wildest dreams. You can, but you cannot do it if you aren't willing to become the person who already has it, and that's where the real challenge lies. You have to be the person that has what future you want without actually having that future currently. You have to believe in yourself and believe in your capabilities. Today is if you already have the thing, so that you can show up with the same determination and grit and laser focus on that version of you that you want today, before you know that it's even possible, before you even know the outcome. You have to surrender to the process, you have to let go and you have to have a deep trust within yourself that you are going to achieve what you want to achieve, because as soon as you tell yourself, well, I can't have that, or that person's luckier than me, or that's impossible for me, or you don't even allow yourself to dream big enough. You have already blocked yourself and your capabilities before you have even begun.
Speaker 1:So many people live their entire life below what they're actually capable of achieving because their own mind limits them before they even have a chance to take the action required of them. And I don't want that for you, because I know that you're here, because you genuinely care about yourself, your life, and you actually want to do the work, and part of making doing the work easier is having a clear idea and understanding of what it is that you actually want, and this doesn't have to be some like five to ten year plan and you have to figure out your whole life. This is really a whole lot broader than that. This is you actually allowing yourself to have the space and the time to think about what it is that you actually want, not what other people want for you, not what you think that you should want, but when you really think about the life that you want to lead, what does that look like? And that is empowering, exciting conversations that I love to have, where we actually allow ourselves to envision what is possible for us, because we can be so bogged down by life and stress and bills and responsibilities and all the different things that are in the current moment that we don't allow ourselves to really sit in the magic of the possibility of our future. And that's what we're going to do today. So what we're actually going to explore in this episode is why your future self actually matters and how to create a vision of your best life.
Speaker 1:We're going to do a bit of a visualization, which I haven't done in a podcast before. It's not going to be super long. There isn't going to be like the music and all the things I usually do in the background when I actually do visualizations. This is just going to be one where you can do in the moment. Hopefully you're in a space where you can quieten down, you know your environment, close down your eyes, all those different things. If you can't, you can always come back to it, but visualizations are incredibly, incredibly important.
Speaker 1:You guys know that I'm obsessed with or, if you don't know, you will now with F1 and all those different things, and they are such an elite level athlete and they are achieving goals beyond their wildest dreams and they use tools like visualization before races and before they actually achieve what they want to achieve. And there is so much science behind teaching our brain what we want before we've achieved it and how that can actually help us. So visualization is a really powerful tool and it's going to help you connect with who you want to be in 2025. That's specifically the thing that we're going to go over in this episode. For the visualization. We're going to go over how to reverse, engineer your goals to bridge the gap between where you are and where you actually want to be, because that's all it is and that's how I want you to see it. If you are currently here at A and you want to be at B, all that means is there's a gap in between, and we have to figure out how you were going to fill that gap, how you were going to be the person that fills that gap, and what you're actually going to do, because that's all it is. We can sometimes think there's this mountain that we have to climb and it's so far away and it's so impossible, but when we realize that there's just a gap from who I am now and what I'm doing to where I want to be and who. I am. There and now I just have to focus on not not laser focus on the gap itself, but who I need to be to start to close that gap, and that is really the focus. The next thing we're going to look at is your daily habits, the mindset shifts and the aligned actions that you need to take to step into your potential. By the end of this episode, you're going to be clear on what you want, you're going to feel so freaking inspired to start and you're going to feel so ready to take accountability for the choices that will shape your future.
Speaker 1:So let's get into the episode. Let's talk about why all of this matters. Why should you care about your future self? And it's quite ironic because something that I preach a lot is being present in the moment, and that is very, very important. And this is not taking away you being present in the moment. We should still very much live our lives in the present moment. This is giving you a guide for where you actually want to be going, so that in the present moment, you can be the person that is actually moving towards that thing. You're not kind of flailing around hoping for the best and wishing for the best. You actually have an understanding of who you want to be and what you want.
Speaker 1:So how you show up in the present aligns with the person that you actually want to be in the future that you actually want to achieve. So this isn't taking away from being present and being mindful. This is adding to that. So when you are present and you are mindful, it is aligned and it is purposeful. Your future self is the person who's living the life that you're dreaming of. They've reached the goals that you're working towards. They've created meaningful relationships. They wake up every day proud of how they show up in the world.
Speaker 1:But the truth with this is is there really is no magic switch that gets you there. That version of you just doesn't arrive one day. They're built from the choices and actions that you are making right now, in the present moment, and I do see this so often. People will say you know, I want my business to take off and be full-time. I want my relationship to feel like this. I want to achieve my dream body and my weight loss goals and my fitness goals and my career goals and all of these different things goals and my fitness goals and my career goals and all of these different things, but we don't ever focus on who we need to be now to have that. We need to act as the person who already has that in our present moment, in our present life, and that is what is going to train our brain what to actually prepare for and it's going to mean that our actions and our behaviors align with the person who already has those things not align with the person who's wishing that they have those things, but unsure if they're even capable, unsure if that's even going to happen. And it really just allows you to have something to aim for.
Speaker 1:Creating a vision for your future self gives you that idea of what are you working towards. What do you actually want for your life? Where do you want to be going? And not just what job do you want to have or all of those different things that can be a part of it, but how do you want to feel? What do you want your day-to-day to look like? Who do you want to be surrounded by? And a very, very important question is what do you not want to be anymore? What do you need to let go of? What do you need to leave behind? Do you need to leave behind self-doubt? Are there people in your life that can no longer come with you? Are there environments that you need to leave behind and move on from? Are there choices that you have made in your past that you're holding on to, that you need to let go of? Is there trauma that you need to heal through and move past so that you can let go of that and stop holding on to that?
Speaker 1:Your future self isn't just what you want and who you need to be. It's also what you need to let go of within yourself and tangibly physically as well, because without a clear direction, it is so easy to stay stuck in the same patterns and repeating the same cycles year after year after year. It's so easy to stay on autopilot, especially when you think about how our brain works and how we find so much safety in the familiar. 90% of our decision-making is coming from our unconscious mind, meaning that 90% of our decision-making is happening on autopilot, and we wonder why we keep doing the same things. We say, oh, I self-sabotage, but we keep doing it. We say I'm a people pleaser, but we keep doing it. We say we want to lose weight and be healthier, but we keep reverting back to the old habits. It is because 90% of our decision-making is coming from our unconscious. 90% of our decision-making is coming from our unconscious, and that is a whole other topic and conversation within itself, bringing our unconscious to our conscious awareness.
Speaker 1:But part of that process is actually knowing what you are striving for, knowing what you actually want to achieve and, equally, knowing the person who needs to achieve that, who they need to become. When you know where you're headed, you start to make choices that align with that path, instead of just reacting to whatever life throws at you. And this isn't just about goals. I will say that all of the time, because we can get so caught up in what we need to do to be successful and what goals that we need to set for ourselves. That is an element to it and it is important. But it's not just about the goals. It's about how you feel in your life. Imagine waking up every day knowing you're aligned with your values, that you're growing and that you're moving towards something meaningful. That's what your future self offers a clear reason to show up, even when it feels hard.
Speaker 1:So I do want you to take a moment to think about it. Who do you want to be? What does your best life actually feel like? And don't overthink it. Don't be like oh, I don't know, I don't know what I want. Don't overthink it.
Speaker 1:This is not about perfection or having all of the answers. It doesn't even have to feel logical or realistic. That's where people go wrong. They're like I can't really see myself doing that, I can't really see myself having that. Am I even the person that can achieve that? It's like you're blocking yourself, you're blocking your potential. Of course you can have that, of course you can achieve that, but not if you have that attitude. So allow yourself to not overthink it.
Speaker 1:Let go of what you think that you should be, let go of what you think you are capable of, and allow yourself to free your mind and open your mind to possibility. Allow yourself to open your mind to what you actually want in this lifetime. It's about allowing yourself to get honest with yourself and start to paint the picture and, equally, knowing it doesn't have to make sense to you right now. In fact, you don't even have to believe it's possible. Right, this second, I just need you to actually allow yourself and your mind to wander into possibility, which leads us right into the next thing that we're going to do, which is a little visualization a guided visualization for you guys of your 2025 self. So this is just to allow us to take this a little bit deeper and really allow you to settle into opening your mind, because it can be really, really hard. We can have so many things that we're thinking right now and so many things that we have on our mind, and I want you to release that from your mind so you can actually think about this future version of yourself. Half the problem is we don't have time. We're so busy, and we're so busy in this present that we don't even give ourselves the time to think about that future version of ourselves. So today I'm going to give you that time because you're already here.
Speaker 1:You're already listening to this podcast, so let's utilize it to be really beneficial for you. So if you're somewhere quiet and comfortable, I want you to close your eyes. If you're not, just listen and let yourself imagine. If you're out and you're busy and you can't really allow yourself to sink into this, that's okay. Just do your best while you're here. But come back to it.
Speaker 1:This is free. This is a free resource for you. Use it as much as you need. So what I'm going to get you to do is take a deep breath in, right in through your nose, and then take a deep breath out out your mouth, really allowing your lungs to empty. You can breathe out a lot longer than you think. Let your body relax. So think about your shoulders, your jaw, really let them relax and soften. Let your muscles relax. Let go of whatever else is on your mind and bring your focus here.
Speaker 1:Now. I want you to imagine it's the end of 2025. It's December 31st and you're reflecting on the year that you've just had. You decided to show up for yourself this year, to stop making excuses, to stop waiting for permission and to go all in on the life that you want. What does that look like now? Continue your breathing, close your eyes and really allow yourself to imagine that it is truly the end of another year, but the year is 2025. Where are you? What's around you? Who are you? What's around you? Who are you with? And, most importantly, how do you feel about yourself? Think about the confidence and pride that comes from knowing you committed to your growth. What goals have you achieved? What new habits have you built? How are you showing up differently in your relationships, your work and your day-to-day life.
Speaker 1:Now zoom in on a moment, one moment from 2025 that makes you feel proud. What was the choice that you made that got you there? How did it feel to back yourself Now? Finally, think about your future self. Looking back at you today, they're grateful, they're proud and they're thanking you for starting, for showing up and for staying consistent, even when it was hard. Take one more deep breath in and hold on to that feeling of gratitude and know that you're already on your way to becoming this person. Take a breath out and, when you're ready, open your eyes or refocus on the present moment, and I want you to keep that vision in your mind as we move forward.
Speaker 1:So, now that you're connected to your future self, it's time to figure out how to get there. This is the part where we're reverse engineering your goals, because big goals, they can feel overwhelming If you do not have a plan. You can become overwhelmed by your own vision, by your own dream, by your own thing that you want for your life. That's why we reverse engineer them. So the first thing that you need to do is you do need to get specific about your vision. I hope that visualization was able to help you. If not, and you need more time, that's okay. Give yourself time. Like I said, you can come back to this.
Speaker 1:Write it down. Journal, go out in nature, whatever it is, I want you to all get clear on your vision before the end of this year. What does your future self have that your current self doesn't? Is it confidence, a healthier body, deeper relationships, financial freedom or something else? Write it down. Write it down in your phone notes. Think it. I preferably write it down because you want to keep this note for yourself.
Speaker 1:But what is it? It might be a few things. List it out. More importantly, do not have shame while you're listing it out, don't be like oh my God, I need more confidence because I'm so fucking unconfident now. I need a healthier body because I'm so unfit and I hate my body. No, we're not going there. Don't allow your mind to go there. Don't train your brain to speak to yourself like shit, because it will limit you. Just write the list, quite neutral about it. Be honest with yourself.
Speaker 1:What does your future self have that your current self doesn't? Could be resilience. Could be discipline, could be anything. Write it down. You know what it is. You know you better than I know you, and the next thing is identify the gap. This is where you have to be really, really honest with yourself. What is actually holding you back right now? Is it a lack of consistency? Is it fear of failure? Is it self doubt? Is it not knowing where to start? What skills, habits or resources do you need to bridge the gap? Because they are out there. There is always resources that is going to help us with what we don't already have or know.
Speaker 1:If you lack confidence, what can you do to become more confident? Do you need support with that? Do you need to work on your mindset? Do you need to keep your word to yourself? Do you need to set a goal for yourself that you can actually be consistent with? Do you need to do the thing and be willing to build the confidence? If you have a fear of failure, if you have trauma, if you have self-doubt, if you lack consistency all of those things there is information and resources or help out there to help you bridge that gap.
Speaker 1:We are never helpless. There are free resources. If you can't afford to purchase coaching or group programs or whatever it is, there is always something out there, and when we believe that there isn't, we're selling ourselves short. But first we actually need to know what that gap is for ourselves. What is it for you? And then the next thing you want to do is you want to break it down into milestones, instead of focusing on the end goal. I want you to think about what you can achieve in the next week, in the next month, in the next six months and then the next year, and I want you to focus on the small and consistent steps that are going to create that momentum for you.
Speaker 1:And finally, you have to remember that it's not about perfection. Your future self isn't built through one big, bold move. It is built through the daily actions that you take to show up for yourself every day, every single day, every moment that you wake up out of bed and you choose to do something that benefits you, you are choosing yourself, and that tiny, small, insignificant well, what seems insignificant but isn't is helping you become that future you, if you choose to roll out of bed and not pick up your phone first thing in the morning, because that's what you usually do, and instead you do a meditation that goes for five minutes, or instead you do journaling, or instead you get outside and you have sunshine on your face, you have done something for future. You it's the small things that matter the most. Everyone thinks it's going to be these big breakthrough moments and I'm going to have this aha moment. My whole life's going to fucking change. It's going to be this big, momentous thing. It's not. It is who you choose to be in the small moments every single day that is going to change your life.
Speaker 1:So ask yourself what is one thing that I can start doing today to align with the person I want to become? For me, what I'm starting doing, and I've been doing now, is wake up in the morning and do a 10-minute meditation. I wake up a little bit earlier. 10 minutes earlier, that's really not that hard. Wake up 10 minutes earlier, set your alarm 10 minutes earlier. You don't even have to get out of bed. You don't even have to move your body. Do a guided visualization. Find one you like. Find one on Spotify they're free. Find one on Apple, whatever. Find one on freaking YouTube. Close your eyes. Do the meditation for 10 minutes before you wake up. The other thing that I've been doing is I do not bring my phone into the bedroom anymore Once I decide to go to bed for the night. My phone is staying in the kitchen on charge. I'm not scrolling in my bed. My phone is not at my bedside table. I'm not waking up and seeing my phone first thing in the morning. I'm not seeing my phone until I get up for the day and I leave my bedroom. I've already done my meditation.
Speaker 1:All of these tiny small things are something that you could choose to do today, tomorrow, right now, and it doesn't have to be that you get to pick your own. But what is one thing that you can start doing today that can align with that future version of yourself? And that's all it takes? One small thing, because becoming your future self starts with your daily actions. This isn't about overhauling your life overnight. It's about making intentional choices every single day. Start each morning with intention. Ask yourself what can I do today to show up as my future self? You can actually ask yourself that question. Write it on your mirror, write it on a post-it note. Make sure you ask yourself that the moment that you wake up and that can sound ridiculous, like I'm not going to ask myself that every day and it's like well, are you willing to be the person that's in the same position in a year's time and be like, well, I didn't do that thing because it sounded ridiculous. Absolutely not. All these things are going to help you.
Speaker 1:Before you've started your day, if you set the tone with asking yourself what would your future self do for that day, imagine how different your day is going to be and try it out. What is the harm in trying something out right? What have you got to lose? Nothing. So wake up, set an intention. What can I do today to show up for my future self? And it doesn't have to be a big thing, it just has to be aligned Reconnect with your vision every single day.
Speaker 1:So the visualization I've been doing it goes for 15 minutes, I actually think it's 15 minutes is a future you visualization. I'm going to try and find it because I think I've spoken about it before so I can put it in the notes. Hopefully I can find the link and not forget she's a forgetful gal, but it's a 15 minute visualization, even if you just type into Spotify or YouTube future visualization or future you visualization or what it is. But that helps me reconnect with my vision every single day. It helps me see my vision every single day and it helps me start knowing that that's what I want to achieve, so I can start my day knowing who I need to be. You can do any type of visualization that you want or any meditation that you want. You can do a stress meditation or relaxation meditation. Whatever I'm choosing to do, the future you meditation. That may change, but just do something each day that helps you reconnect with your vision.
Speaker 1:Every day, spend a couple of minutes visualizing your future self and thinking about how they would handle the day ahead, even if it's in specific situations. How would future me handle this situation? What decision would future me make? Even if it's like investing in yourself or whatever it is, ask yourself what would future me do? And that can be a really simple, basic but very helpful question. And another thing I want you to do is commit to bold action each week, even if it's not each week, but at least each month, each month.
Speaker 1:You need to have bold action in your life because growth doesn't happen without discomfort. So make it a habit to step outside of your comfort zone. That can be anything, because everyone's comfort zone is different. What might be uncomfortable for me is super comfortable for somebody else. Only you can know that for some people, going and have a coffee on their own, going on a solo date by themselves, is extremely uncomfortable, so that would be the one thing that they can do. Only you can know. But pick something. You have to be willing to get outside of your comfort zone consistently and regularly to ensure that you are actually growing.
Speaker 1:And the other most important thing when it comes to all of this is don't forget to prioritize rest and self-care. Your future self isn't burnt out. They're not burnt out. They're not fucking haggard and tired by the time that they get there. They're balanced. Taking care of yourself isn't optional. It is absolutely essential. Get enough sleep, have enough water, eat well, move your body. Do things actually benefit you and help you be the healthiest version of yourself. Because the version of you that's going to get to this future version of yourself isn't just your mind. It is your mind, body and soul that is going to get you there. So look after all of them. And here's the big takeaway Every choice you make is shaping your future.
Speaker 1:It is not about being perfect. It is about being intentional. So ask yourself does this action bring me closer to or further away from my vision? Am I making this choice out of fear, or is it aligned with who I want to become and what would my future self thank me for doing today? That is a really cool question. I really love it. What would my future self thank me for doing today? And it can literally be my future self as in tomorrow. My future self tomorrow has thanked me for going to bed on time and not binging Netflix and staying up all night. My future self has thanked me for drinking enough water the day before, because now I don't have a headache the next day. It can even be as basic and as simple as that.
Speaker 1:The more that you align your daily actions with your values and your vision, the faster you'll close the gap between who you are now and who you want to be. Your future self isn't some distant version of you. It's something that you're building right now. With every choice that you make, every time that you take a bold step, every time that you align with your values and every time that you show up, you're becoming the person that you're meant to be. So this week, I want to challenge you. Take one intentional action that aligns with your future self.
