Finding Yourself in Motherhood

Sneaky thoughts about motherhood

Andrea Gunnell Season 1 Episode 44

Today I talked about thoughts we have about motherhood. I mentioned a friend telling me "I am extremely disappointed in myself," when discussing motherhood. I talked about how this thought is painful and not serving her well. It leads her to take actions being fueled by pain. She also told me "I tried to make sure they always knew they were loved." I talk about how this might be a better thought but could also be painful since her children sometimes tell her stories about not feeling loved while growing up. Plus its not possible to always show love to our children. We make mistakes and have frustrating moments and that's ok. I offered the thought, "I did my best to show love to my children," as an alternative thought. I also offered some other ideas but in order to see if our thoughts are beneficial, we always need to check in and see how they make us feel.

In the end we talked about just becoming aware of our thoughts and not being judgmental of them. This will help us slowly adjust our thoughts until they serve us well and we can be happier, more intentional mothers.
