We all know the relief of cracking open a manual (or going to the YouTube or AI) and finding the fix you need to something that wasn't work correctly — but what happens when we start expecting the people in our lives to come with one too? In this episode, I share how a simple freezer troubleshooting moment got me thinking about the invisible rulebooks we carry around for everyone we know. We'll look at real examples — like expecting a spouse to come to bed at the same time as you, or assuming friends and family should always show up on time — and unpack why we get so frustrated when people don't follow a script they never agreed to. We'll also explore where these "manuals" come from in the first place: our parents, our friends, our faith, social media, and even our politics. By the end, you might just realize the manual says more about you than it does about them.
