Beyond the DJ Booth
Brian B and Joe Bunn tackle questions about the private event DJ industry, share music, gear/gadgets, and stories from their events.
Beyond the DJ Booth
Why DJs Keep Ruining Good Songs
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
It’s Love Week, which means no clichés and no pretending. Brian opens with a question he’s clearly been holding in: why are there so many 140+ BPM edits in music pools right now? Are DJs actually asking for this? Or are we all just pretending faster equals better? What follows is a very real, very honest plea to editors to stop ruining good songs.
From there, we break down how R&B really works across a private event: cocktail hour, dinner, and into the dance floor. What to play, what to avoid, and how to keep things moving without speeding everything up. We share timeless and modern picks, along with practical mixing choices for knowing when a song’s done…and when the room clearly wants more.
Then we shift gears into booking power for 2026. Why generic “Top 50 DJ” blog posts are losing steam. How location-specific content is pulling in higher-intent couples. And where AI tools like ChatGPT are quietly influencing real inquiries. We break down what still matters with Google, how to tune your site for qualified traffic, and the small, repeatable content habits that keep your pipeline steady without chasing trends.
We also shout out the Patreon Backroom. Are you not in it yet? You're missing monthly bonus episodes, weekly banger lists, private edits (where we stash the deeper music pulls and wink-worthy blends), and gear giveaways. Plus, a few tools we actually use on shows to keep workflows clean before the first song ever plays.
If this sounds like the way you already play or want to, hit play.
And if you’re feeling generous, write us a review, leave a comment on YouTube or socials, and follow us on Instagram @beyondthedjbooth. Send this to a DJ who needs to hear it, and drop your favorite R&B dinner track while you’re at it. We’ll grab the good ones for a future playlist.

I think you just up everybody. Welcome back to Beyond the DJ Booth Podcast, live from Raleigh, North Carolina. I say live, but it's really bad. I was about to say. Right? It's bad. If you're wondering who's on the other microphone over here, Mr. Joe Bunn. Yes, sir. I'm Brian B. We are your co-hosts. So glad you're here.
SPEAKER_05:Dude, I'm glad you're here, and we've been here all morning. I'm hungry as a hostage. I love that one. All I can think about is Chick-fil-A right now.
SPEAKER_08:Okay.
SPEAKER_05:I'm getting the kale salad with the nuggets on top, buffalo sauce, ranch. Shake it up with the little. Shake it, shake it up.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Half unsweet tea, half diet lemonade.
SPEAKER_08:I have a Zoom call in like 30 minutes. I'm gonna have to figure out how to keep my camera on in between bites because I'm gonna be on that same order as your Chick-fil-A's order.
SPEAKER_05:What do you get?
SPEAKER_08:No, no, no, no, no. I don't like the spice. I don't like the spice.
SPEAKER_05:No, there's no fries on the number one combo.
SPEAKER_08:No, no, that chicken. That specific one is a spicy chicken, is the number one. I like to get the grilled chicken. Interesting. Eat a little leaner.
SPEAKER_05:Okay.
SPEAKER_08:I do go fry though.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, you do go fry.
SPEAKER_08:I do go fry. Small fruit.
SPEAKER_05:If you don't like the ketchup, you like the damn honey mustard pack.
SPEAKER_08:It's not the honey mustard, it's like honey barbecue or something.
SPEAKER_05:Honey roasted barbecue. Yeah, he loves that shit. It's gotta be six. Give me extra packs.
SPEAKER_08:Six. Six. Six? Specifically six. But you take like three home. I do take three home. Just to have some in the back. I can't imagine how much is in the kitchen drawer. Yeah, that's my move. This is coming out Valentine's Day week. Wow. This will be on Wednesday the 11th. Yeah. Valentine's Day is on Saturday. Okay. What are you doing with Ashley? What's the move? It's never been a move for me. No? You don't have like uh any kind of tradition. Nah. I know you don't like the flowers. But are you? I mean, it's a Saturday. Going out, doing anything? You getting raked over the coals with the dollars? Nah. So what will you do? Anything?
SPEAKER_05:I punt it to Sunday and just go to a restaurant. But I mean I don't think she doesn't care about it. I don't care about it. It's it's a fabricated Hallmark holiday.
SPEAKER_08:Okay.
SPEAKER_05:How about you?
SPEAKER_08:Nah, we don't do it either. Yeah. We go pizza is the move. Oh, okay. We started that tradition for some reason because we didn't want to remember you telling me. We didn't want the man to take advantage of us, right?
SPEAKER_05:So we go they will run it up on you on Valentine's. Oh my gosh. They'll run it up on you on Valentine's.
SPEAKER_08:So we go, nah, we go with uh the pizza reel. Yeah. Well, we got some more things about that in the podcast episode as far as Valentine's Day goes. But let's thank our some of our friends. We have to do this. If you're in the back room, which is our top tier, we give you a shout out. So we have some new people who joined us recently. If you haven't checked it out, you need to. We'll talk more about that here in a minute. But hit the first one.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. So shout out to some of our back room members on the Patreon, which uh my man out in Arizona Cataldi in the building. Russell Davis and Ryan Michot. I feel like that's a good one. Is it Michad? Michaud?
SPEAKER_04:I'm not French. I'm a French it up. I'm a good Michad.
SPEAKER_08:All right. Well, if you are in that back room, we give out monthly prizes. We do a giveaway.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, we do.
SPEAKER_08:In February. What is it? The newer CMS28 Pro mics.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, those are nice.
SPEAKER_08:Talk to us about it. What are they? I don't know what they're doing.
SPEAKER_05:They are content creation mics, kind of the clip-on style. I think they're like the roads? Uh like the road ones, yeah. You think they're better? I wouldn't say better, but the sound quality is incredible. The range is great. They clip on? They clip right on your shirt. They connect to anything. A camera, a vlogger camera, your phone, whatever. I mean, all the cables are in there. It's in a little travel case. There's a video on my YouTube channel. What do these go for? Um around a Hundo or something.
SPEAKER_08:Okay.
SPEAKER_05:So more value than your monthly$19.99, you're paying. Come on.
SPEAKER_08:This is good stuff. This is good shit, y'all.
SPEAKER_05:And you got a great chance of winning. I mean, there's not a ton of people in the back room.
SPEAKER_08:Right. Anyway. Yeah. Well, let's hit our next segment then, which is off the record. Off the record.
SPEAKER_06:Uh, off the record. Let me talk my sugar honey ice tea. They throw a shade while I'm sipping on this ice tea. Don't care if you hate on like me. You know why? Cause that's just how life is. Say it with the chest. Got a microphone, check it. Hey, I'm gon' say what I want to say. It's right time to rant and rate. Get out the way.
SPEAKER_08:Alright, so I've been going through the pools during the holidays, man. And I cannot believe how many 140 BPM range track remixes there are out there right now. I 140 is. Who is playing this for an extended period of time?
SPEAKER_04:Yes, bro.
SPEAKER_08:Like, are we on drugs here? What is happening that we're creating these 100? You're wasting my time. Editors, quit making 140 BPM remixes. No one plays this stuff. It's a waste of your time.
SPEAKER_05:It's hard enough to get people to dance as is.
SPEAKER_08:I mean, how many 140 BPM songs are you playing in a night? Two? Maybe. I may not even get there. Two, I guess. I mean, they are littered. Littered in these pools. Really? 140 BPM minimum. We might go up to 160. Jesus Christ. I'm like, who is playing enough of this stuff? I don't get it. So that's my rant. I just don't think we need to see any more. Keep it 118 to 130. I'm fine with that.
SPEAKER_05:Yes.
SPEAKER_08:We need more stuff in that range. Not this other crap.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. Wow.
SPEAKER_08:140 is crazy.
SPEAKER_09:Like a trap beat. Like, but like.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, but they're going double time. They're going double time. You're doubling 140? So it'd be like that. No, no, no, they're doubling the or like 75.
SPEAKER_09:Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_08:All right. Quick pause from the episode because we want to say this clearly. If you've been listening to Beyond the DJ booth for a while, you already know this isn't surface level DJ talk.
SPEAKER_05:Listen, this is real conversation about music, business, gear, mistakes we've made, wins, the stuff you're actually thinking about after the gig.
SPEAKER_08:So if you're one of the people who listens every week and thinks, man, I wish I had all this stuff in one place, well, that's exactly why we built the Patreon.
SPEAKER_05:Listen, at the booth crew level, you get full access to everything we've already done. Unreleased video and audio episodes you can binge all at once. Our weekly top 10 music banger lists, and a simple way to keep track of the music we're talking about on the show without having to go back and hunt through old episodes.
SPEAKER_08:It's a clean, no-friction way to stay plugged in in between episode drops.
SPEAKER_05:Now, if you're already in the crew, the booth backroom is where we go a layer deeper.
SPEAKER_08:Yep, that's where we drop an extra episode every single month. Not only that, we have monthly prize drawings, which include sometimes gear or merch or coaching calls, even DJ show tickets. Oh yeah, and discounts on our exclusive merch. And bonus content that we don't put out on the public feed, the kind of listening that DJs usually wish they had after hearing an episode. So it's not just about more content. Know that. It's about being closer to the conversation.
SPEAKER_05:So if this podcast has helped you in any way think differently about your craft, your business, or how seriously you take what you do, come hang with us on Patreon. Yep, that's patreon.com slash beyond the DJ Booth Podcast.
SPEAKER_08:Join the crew or step into the back room.
SPEAKER_04:See you there.
SPEAKER_08:What's it? Our next thing, the pop culture minute. Pop culture minute? Okay.
SPEAKER_04:Brian B.
SPEAKER_13:Jobon dropping heat just for fun. Pop talk spinning like a wreck of spine.
unknown:Woo!
SPEAKER_11:Pop culture class where the stories collide. Two DJs bringing the flavor we're a while.
SPEAKER_08:Woo! All right, so I saw this clip. I think this is good business stuff. Do you know Sarah Dunn? She's a educator for Wedding Pro. I mean, we're not friends or anything, but I thought found this super fascinating. And it goes into some things that we've talked about on this batch of material we've done this uh this morning with social media stuff. So let's hit this clip.
SPEAKER_01:A few things happened in Wedding SEO this year that I think every wedding pro should know about. First, the bad news. We are seeing fewer clicks coming into educational articles. So several of our clients in the last year have lost traffic to articles that traditionally got a lot of traffic, like songs to walk down the aisle to New Year's Eve wedding ideas or questions to ask your wedding planner. In 2026, this isn't the type of content that I recommend that wedding pros focus on. This kind of broad educational content that isn't location specific. Instead, we're gonna be focusing on location-specific content that really shows you're a local expert. It may get less traffic, but it's gonna bring in more qualified traffic that's more likely to inquire. Now the good news we are seeing increased traffic, inquiries, and bookings to our clients from Chat GPT. We track 26 inquiries for one of our wedding planner clients from Chat GPT, 19 for one of our hair and makeup artists, and about a dozen for an elopement and micro wedding company. I think this is exciting because it's a new and fun opportunity to get found. And users who come from ChatGPT seem to be more likely to inquire. So it's a great place to get found and get more exposure. The last thing you need to know is that Google stayed the Mac Daddy of website traffic for wedding industry websites. For our clients, Google usually drove 60 to 70 percent of their website traffic, while other platforms like ChatGPT and Instagram drove maybe one to five percent each. That's interesting. Keep an eye on what's working right now and what may grow in the future if you want to see the most success with your SEO.
SPEAKER_08:So that was interesting because we just talked about a couple episodes ago social media and going to the website to where your contact form is is what, one to five percent, she's saying. Now, this is with her clients. She actually runs an SEO company and tracks a lot of this metric. So, not probably a ton of overall data, but for the people that she works with, that's what they're seeing. Chat GPT is interesting as well. And I really have not done any kind of research into how I was found that way. I know it scans more than just the Google algorithm, but your socials and a lot deeper things beyond just that. So I don't know. I just thought it was an interesting thing to be looking at, making sure that your SEO is at least up to date. I know that we talk about him often, but Brian Lawrence does a lot of our shout out, Brian Lawrence. If you haven't looked at him, go to is it Brian Lawrence.com. But any thoughts that you have just from what she said here?
SPEAKER_05:She lost me by holding the lavalier mic in her hand at some point. I'm sorry. I that shit drives me bonkers. Like it's meant to clip on your shirt. I don't get when people hold it. Uh sometimes I I just get she lost me halfway through the video. It's like um man, I like what she's saying. I do think there is still value in the, you know, use these to walk down the aisle to instead of Canon and D type videos. I I still like those. I mean, some stuff is location specific, some stuff it's not, right? It kind of transcends all areas for for weddings sometimes.
SPEAKER_08:My take on it is that those articles you can find them in other places now. Yeah. So like that's true. If I'm searching for music, I'm going to Spotify. Yeah. I'm looking up playlists. You're right. I'm not looking on Google for my answer to top wedding songs. Or I'm looking on.
SPEAKER_05:You might look to a DJ that would give you an honest take instead of just seeing a 50-song playlist on Spotify. You're an expert, right? And again, let's not dissuade people from just being active on social, man. There's so many of our friends that are just legendary, and then so many of our friends are just so shitty at social. Like I'd rather see you make the video that she's saying is not gonna work than do nothing. I mean, even if you're not in the video, right? You can you can put a background of of people dancing here at last wedding and put the text over it. And people will stop and read that. You know what I mean? Like maybe I think I still think it's helpful. I is it gonna trend? Is it gonna pop off? Is it gonna go viral and you know get you booked for the Dunkin' Donuts convention in Vegas? Probably not.
SPEAKER_08:Well, I think that's what she's going for here is like what is gonna lead to direct bookings, and it seems like I'm not discounting her.
SPEAKER_05:She knows way more than I do on this stuff. I agree with her wholeheartedly, but I'm just saying, don't not do anything. Right. Please be active, please be consistent.
SPEAKER_08:Well, we haven't hit music in a while.
SPEAKER_12:Great, finds, great, finds digging deep for the good times, great, fine's great, finds hidden gems in the rewind.
SPEAKER_08:I'm actually trying to get this RB Valentine's Day party booked. Yeah. It's a guy who throws this party every year in New York City. I have not been used in the entertainment side of it before. So I've already lobbied for it, and I want to be like this RB Valentine's Day vibe. You should make a mix, man, and send it to him and be like, this is where my head's at. Yeah. Well, I sent him some ideas already, but I need to probably put it in. Mix it live, bro.
SPEAKER_05:Come in here and drop, drop it in this TV. Like growing up, well, that's where I'm saying. That's where I got a little sideways when he told me dial it in a little bit.
SPEAKER_08:Okay, so the thought was here to create a list of some songs that's not just dancing.
SPEAKER_05:Because sometimes when I think about RB, I think about just like slow jams. Like stuff that you would make a baby to.
SPEAKER_08:You could that could be a part of this list.
SPEAKER_05:I'm not making any more babies, by the way.
SPEAKER_08:But like I was thinking, what are some songs that are working at your gigs that are either old RB? I'm talking like Stevie Wonder type stuff that could be used for a cocktail or dinner, or what could be some things that you have played recently that are dance for fillers in the RB genres that are working well? Okay.
SPEAKER_05:I made a list, I got like about 15 of these. I got 37. No, I'm just kidding. And I'll I got 15 as well.
SPEAKER_08:What we'll do for the backroom members, or should we do it for all the Patreon? Should we do all the paid? I think all the Patreon. Yeah, all the Patreon. We'll make a Spotify playlist with some of these songs. Okay. You will want to check out the bonus content for specific uh things, edits. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. So these are some songs that I've been playing recently. And then you're just gonna say the song and artists, and then we'll on uh I'll insert some not all of them, but some of the ones that we've talked about because some people know some of these, but one of the ones I want to throw a callback to that I played at one of my latest weddings that really popped off was the song Could It Be I'm Falling in Love by the Spinners. Right.
SPEAKER_05:Great song. Great track. I love that song. And I think it's one of those forgotten ones. I love that song too. Yeah, cross all genre. I'm falling in love. Okay. What you got? What you let's go back and forth a little bit. Okay, well, if we're gonna go old like that, I you know my standard doors open. It's not first song, at least in the first three, is always Bill Withers Lovely Day. It just feels right. The sun's usually still up. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Either that or interchanged with Redbone, Come and Get Your Love. Oh, that's a good one.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah. One more in that genre, old school stuff is the song called That Lady, part one and two by the Isley Brothers. Yeah. Great track. Crushes. Really? Does great for me during dinner. I mean, some uh dinner tracks. What are some other more current ones here? I'm a Neo guy, man.
SPEAKER_05:Like, you know, people kind of go like, oh, I like Usher. There's always like that one dude in that age range that kind of people are drawn towards. Neo's kind of my guy for some reason. I don't know. I mean, I put him in the category with Usher. I guess I would put him with a Chris Brown, but for some reason I always towards lean towards Neo's song. I love because of you. I've got this eccentric flip. Pierce cut it up some more.
SPEAKER_02:I need a dependent. Tell myself I stop every day.
SPEAKER_09:I feel like Neo can Neo's a little less uh raunchy. Yes. Right. Usher can get a little crazy sometimes. A little more adult. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ronin's sexy, if you will. So my counter to that. Yeah. My guy. Who's your guy? Miguel.
SPEAKER_05:I love Miguel, bro. We talk about when Miguel kicked that lady in the head at the MTV Awards all the time. I played him that clip before. Do you remember that? Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_08:When he tried to jump over the pit and kick that lady in the head. I love Miguel. So my track, if you're not playing it, is Pineapple Skies.
SPEAKER_05:God damn, don't get me started on Pineapple Skies. I'm gonna go top ten ever. It's great. Top 10 songs of all time. I don't feel like it's a good one. Just from my personal get in the car. That might have been the last time I had that Bruno Mars feeling. Pineapple Skies. Whenever that's a long time ago. I know that. That's what I told you. Jeez. Okay. I love that song.
SPEAKER_11:Other trees are enough, baby. It's probably a purpose, God. Promise everything gonna be alright. Promise everything gonna be alright. Try everything gonna be alright.
SPEAKER_05:Anything else in the dinners? You know who can do no wrong in my opinion? Leon Bridges does no wrong. Even that the song that he did with Odessa across the room. I love that one. Coming home, The River, whatever. Any Leon Bridges is great for me for dinner.
SPEAKER_08:You can't have an RB list without including Sade.
SPEAKER_05:It's right here on my list. What do you like? Kiss of life is my go-to. Your love is king, is like still to me gold.
SPEAKER_13:Your love is king. Crown you with my heart. Your love is king. Now I need to watch your kisses ring. It's making my soul say, tearing the barrel over me. I'm crying out the more you are this game.
SPEAKER_05:It's so it's just so good.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah.
SPEAKER_09:The band is good. The band is ridiculous.
SPEAKER_08:It's so good. And then I also like this cover of the Temptation song Just My Imagination with Babyface and Gwyneth Paltrow. Random pairing. Wow.
SPEAKER_09:The baby face.
SPEAKER_08:So good. I don't pick those kinds of covers unless they're really good.
SPEAKER_05:Anytime you're gonna diddle a Motown song, you're gonna have to really sell me on. Okay.
SPEAKER_12:But it wasn't just my imagination. Run in the way with me. Tell you it wasn't just my imagination. Run in the way with me. Soon we'll be married and raise a family.
SPEAKER_05:I like Ain't No Mountain High Enough, right? And I got it very dance track, right? I I yeah, for a dance track. But I go back and forth between either that neon rad redrum or the the Drew Infused one with do a leap at Don't Stop. Nah. Huh? Which one are you gonna do?
SPEAKER_08:You got a surprise at it. Oh Jesus. I need to send it to you. It's with uh Jay Sean. Down? I call it Ain't No Mountain Down Enough. Oh shit.
SPEAKER_05:That might go crazy. Send it to your boy. Oh, it's the You might as well insert it here as well.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, I'll insert it here. Okay. Yeah, it's the one I can.
SPEAKER_05:Send it to your boy though.
unknown:Ain't no mountain half.
SPEAKER_00:Ain't no validone. Ain't no river. Why enough, baby? You need to call me no matter where you are, no matter how far. Don't worry, baby. Just call my name. I'll live there in the hurry. You don't worry.
SPEAKER_02:Do I know? Tonight is tonight too late.
SPEAKER_08:And I've got a couple of versions. If it's an older crowd, I don't include the wheezy verse. If it is a younger crowd, then I include the wheezy verse.
SPEAKER_05:For the young crowd, it's good, but I love that Jay Shon song. Oh, and we don't play that enough. And I need to bring that back in.
SPEAKER_08:And it comes out of nowhere. Like you don't even realize that that's the beat it's under. You're just like, oh, this sounds good. Let me give you another one. Okay. This is an interesting one that's worked well for me recently. During dinner. Okay. Stick with you.
SPEAKER_05:Who is that again?
SPEAKER_08:Pussycat dolls.
SPEAKER_05:Wow.
SPEAKER_08:Great track.
SPEAKER_05:Can I allow you to call that RB?
SPEAKER_08:What? What would it be? Pussycat dolls? Pop. Pop?
SPEAKER_07:No, nah.
SPEAKER_08:She's got they got a lot of sisters.
SPEAKER_09:I don't know. I had I'd have to hear that one. I'd have to hear that. Oh, I think that's black.
SPEAKER_04:I don't even think there's a sister. What do you mean? Nicole?
SPEAKER_09:Yeah. Nicole? No, she's not. Nah, she's finger. That's not black. Scherzinger?
SPEAKER_05:No, wait, wait.
SPEAKER_08:Who's the main singer?
SPEAKER_05:The main girlfriend is a little bit of a Nicole Scherzinger. But she's black? Nah, look it up. Oh no, no. Go ahead. Show me that picture. Ain't no way. Not a picture. Just Google what her ethnicity is. While he's doing that. Another dinner banger. Okay. You can't make any list without Janet. Agreed. A thousand percent. I should have put her on.
SPEAKER_08:So my track is Got Till It's Gone.
SPEAKER_05:Absolute favorites. It's always on my cool cocktails list. I think the Q-tip out. Oh, okay. Just Janet. He does it. I think he curses in it as well. He curses in it. I'm gonna bring back a real throwback here. Tevin Campbell. Can we talk? Oh yeah. Remember that song?
SPEAKER_08:Yeah. He was on my list. I would think, I would hope every DJ is playing that. At least I play it often. I didn't even count.
SPEAKER_05:Do you freak with um Khalid? Yeah. Can we just talk? Talk?
SPEAKER_07:Yeah, it was on my I played it for New Year's Eve. Okay. She is Filipino. Yes. And Ukrainian. Oh G, bro. She's got some dark skin then. She got a lot of skin. Filipinos.
SPEAKER_09:I mean, Filipinos can be dark.
SPEAKER_08:That's true. That's true. Here you go. You want to shout out Filipinos? I don't think you're playing this one.
SPEAKER_09:Go ahead. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_08:Unpredictable.
SPEAKER_07:Oh, damn.
SPEAKER_08:Jamie Fonds.
SPEAKER_07:Wow. Featuring a movie. That's a throwback.
SPEAKER_05:It goes off, my brother. How about this? How about SWV right here? The human nature. Yeah, that's a good one, too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:I can't. How did they get that sample? And I feel like I can't do Michael like that. I gotta play the human nature.
SPEAKER_09:Y'all ain't say T-Pain once. That's true.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, that's true. I had him on my list.
SPEAKER_09:I love T-Pain.
SPEAKER_08:We brought bartender lately. Bartender is a good one. All right. You want me to give me another one? Hold on.
SPEAKER_05:Can I give you one more? Yeah, go ahead. This to me is what I really consider RB, even though it's not really danceable, Maxwell. I thought it is RB.
SPEAKER_08:That's baby music.
SPEAKER_05:I mean, no, I'm saying it's not RB as what we're we're talking about right now. This is what I think RB trains.
SPEAKER_08:What you want? Ascension? Ascension.
SPEAKER_10:All I want is who we can do a little something. So we can kick a little something.
SPEAKER_05:Did it so sexy, bro? I've seen people try and like make a baby out there. Like during dinner, like under the table trying to do weird shit.
SPEAKER_08:Alright, one more dinner one for you. Georgie Porgi.
unknown:Wow.
SPEAKER_08:Eric Benet?
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. I remember that too. With Faith Evans. It goes off. I mean, I remember the I give you one last one then. All right, give it to me. Wild Thoughts. Oh. Did you Khaled? Yeah, Khaled, Rihanna, Bryson Tiller.
SPEAKER_08:Well, let's keep it on open for the dancing. What you guys for us aim?
SPEAKER_05:Oh, I don't, I think I went more just like Okay.
SPEAKER_08:So I'll give you a couple. Sitting up in my room, Brandy. Wow. Great track. She was like 60. Great track. I've been playing that. Okay. Let me give you another one here.
SPEAKER_05:I love that. But I'll you know what else? We we've we're leaving out like all of like the Joe D.
SPEAKER_09:Yeah, but see, some of that stuff is too like too slow, too, too.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, it's too baby making. Right. So I know you're not I dare you to say the other guy. No. He's locked up. The guy that's locked up. Yeah, bring him up. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_08:I'm gonna bring him up. You playing in the closet? No.
SPEAKER_05:What number? What number? What part? What part are you playing? Ignition remix.
SPEAKER_09:Step two step step in the name of love.
SPEAKER_05:That was when like I was playing anything like truly where it was like a truly mixed event. Like it was like 50-50. I'd be like, Step in the name of love, too close by next, Frankie Beverly amazing. Like that's when they were like, oh, okay, this guy knows what he's doing. You know which one of his I played recently? Cookout guy.
SPEAKER_08:I played Burn It Up. R. Kelly. Oh, yeah. That's a crazy one. You're uncanceling R. No, I mean that's one of the few I play. I do play Ignition. I do play Ignition too. I play it too. I'm just saying, I think. All right. So let me give you uh two other dan dance tracks you should consider. Um this one went off for me this last week. Flex by Cupid. I do, I If they know the dance, I know it goes off.
SPEAKER_05:It got big. I'm like, what is all the only time we played that song was that that Native American wedding we did. Remember that? The video popped off and Cupid commented on it and reposted it. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, I'll show it to you. And then uh the last one I have on this list that I'll share today is the hashtag beautiful. This is also Miguel, Mariah Carey and Miguel. The song was beautiful. I mean, it's it came out in the 2000s.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:It's hitting right with this kind of age range of brides and grooms, so it goes over pretty well for me.
SPEAKER_05:Dude, the thing I like the most about you is I think you're so confident and more adventurous, I guess. More brave. Yeah. And I think you're thinking so many songs ahead, you're like, okay, if it flops, I can get out of it. I can get out. I'm out. I'm out before they even realize they don't like it. Right.
SPEAKER_08:Where I get stuck, if I have to say there's a problem sometimes, is if they like it too much. I didn't realize it.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. And I'm playing a shorter edit, and I'm like, right, I can't loop this. Bro. I've had people want to fight me for cutting the rap off of Baby by Justin Bieber and cutting the rap off the Spice Girls Wanna Be. Want to fight me.
SPEAKER_08:Wow. Yeah, those are two tough ones.
SPEAKER_05:I was like, Jesus Christ. Are they that good of a verse? They just know the rap and they want to do the do the bar.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah. So if you're in the back room or the booth crew, you can grab this list, and then if you're in the back room, you actually get some wink wink bonus content. Yeah, winky, wink, wink. Um we got one question and we can end this cowboy. Let's do it. Question of the day. This is came in through our fan mail. What? I don't really know why this came question came up, but did something happen? I don't know. So the question is if you're not watching this, is S Start still a thing?
SPEAKER_04:Well, of course it is.
SPEAKER_08:I think it is, right? Of course it is.
SPEAKER_04:I mean, that's my boy's company. Yeah. Is that the collective?
SPEAKER_08:Yeah. So yeah, it's still a thing. They didn't even sign their name.
SPEAKER_05:I don't know who put this in. It just says fan mail. Of course, S Start is still a thing. Number one, he definitely at one point sponsored the podcast. Number two, he sponsored the DJ Collective. Number three, I use these tools at various events throughout the year, whether it is the scan the QR code on the table and share all the pictures. I've used the screen for the seating chart before. Just go to START.com, E-S-S-T-A-R-T.com and check it out. And you're supporting a fellow DJ that is now a basically software developer making stuff for us by us type thing.
SPEAKER_08:It's the first time I met him in person at the collective. He was couldn't have been a nicer guy.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, he's got incredible energy. I was just gonna say makes great content. He is very passionate about what he does, and he's just an all-around good dude. Support it. Check it out, estar.com.
SPEAKER_08:And let's thank our sponsor for the Beyond the DJ Booth podcast. About to say something different. I just saved it. That would be DJ Event Planner.
SPEAKER_05:Dude, shout out DJ Event Planner. This is a CRM, which is a customer relationship manager. If you were starting to get overwhelmed with trying to keep up with stuff on your phone, or I remember I used to write down all my shows on the Staples paper calendar. They would come out every year. You got to check out DJEventplanner.com. Keeps track of all your shows, keeps track of your client planners and everything else. Brian uses it, I use it, and we run a ton of shows through it. That's it. Thank you guys.
SPEAKER_08:All right, guys. Well, we'll see you on the next episode. Enjoy your Valentine's Day if you celebrate in it. And get me some flowers, Joe. All right. Thanks, guys. See ya
