Hosts Check In On Life
SPEAKER_00Hello, I'm Denise. I'm Lisa. I'm Takeisha. And I'm Laverne. And we're the Hot Gold Survivors.
SPEAKER_01Come join us. It's an opportunity where women of a certain age will talk truth, trash, and transformation.
Rallying For Letitia James
Fear, Faith, And Solidarity
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. And what are we talking about again, guys? Life. Life. We talk about life. Life is life in. Because life is out here, life, and it's been a while, I think, since we just checked in on life. Okay, cool. If we get caught up in topics, so just we can just do a check-in. Alright, so how's everybody doing? Good. I think we were reflecting on our recent hot button issue, which is this indictment that's been brought now by the president against Tish James. And we were talking about how we're now, as women, called to do multiple things all at the same time. We had women on a call yesterday, was an emergency call on a Sunday evening, caring for family, caring for democracy, caring for each other. And we're just doing multiple things all at the same time. And it's just exhausting. I think that's the overwhelming response that all of this is just exhausting and overwhelming. Yeah, I was on that call last night, emergency call, eight o'clock on a Sunday night. I was impressed by the fact that it was something like 3,000 women who jumped on, 3,000 black women in particular who jumped on to this cause. We got ourselves together and got on that call, even though we've been saying we're off causes, right? Like we initially need we tired, we're not gonna march no more, no more. We had that whole thing going. And then the bat signal went out and we were all on the call, ready to handle what needs to be handled, which is what we always do. And it's exhausting, but the call was exhilarating. I thought it was just powerful watching the chat box because the chats would just scroll again and support a tish. We got your back, we stand with you. Just words of encouragement, the prayers and the outpouring of love. It was just really, really heartwarming. Yeah, and I think the way that we can just kind of fall in line, right? And just assemble it was like that signal, yeah, activate. We have a sister in need, and we just came to do what needed to be done and listen. Yeah. Even though I know we are supposed to be resting, right? To your point, Lisa. Right. Because we did our part, right? We did our part, but well, she needs us. Here we are. Here we are. And the thing I think that's impressive about us is I don't think as a black woman, any of us are feeling safe. You know what I mean? I I can't imagine being in and out and knowing that there's a target specifically on your back because you had the audacity to do your job well, right? Because this is essentially this is what this is about, right? You had the audacity to be good at what you do. So she has a real target on her back. But I think we all walk around feeling like that that target's on our back. And yet, even though we ourselves are not feeling safe, 3,000 of us got on the call to say, We got you. And people were trying to get on and couldn't, right? So we wouldn't show up. Yeah, there's this whole idea, we're gonna do it scared because that's what we do, and it needs to happen. So what choice do we have, really? And I love the fact that a lot of the chat was covering a specific scripture that kept saying, No weapon that's formed against me shall prosper. And I just thought that was just so powerful because there will be weapons that actually form, and this isn't a weapon that's being formed, but what we can be happy and joyful about is that it will not prosper. Because I fully believe that this young lady, she is armed and ready to go. She may have this target on her back, but I love the fact that she is not willing to sit down. Not backing down. And the thing is, is that a lot of our Congress and senators and so on and so forth, they're backing down, although that they know that this is not the thing. This is not right. They know that it's not right, right? But they're too afraid to stand up, they're too afraid. So I love the fact that we are standing in solidarity with her. We're definitely standing in solidarity, at least supporting her in some way, shape, or form, right? Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think there were some takeaways from the call, and I believe the organization is called Winning with Women.
SPEAKER_02Right?
Fundraising, Hashtags, Next Steps
SPEAKER_00It's it's we'll definitely get more clear on what the organization itself is called and share that with you. But they also shared some very specific resources about how you can support her campaign because let's not get distracted from the fact that she's again running for office, right? And so they like to throw stuff around so you take your eyes off the ball. Don't take your eye off the ball, right? So we need to support that campaign. And there are also resources that are directed to her defense fund, right? And so you need to, we can also kind of dig down and find those resources so that you are aware of those too. And then I just encourage you to go and do some reading, find out what the indictment is about. What I learned on the call was it it's really flimsy. I never doubted that it was all about retribution, but the way that it's been set up, this is the best you could do. Really, really paper. I think the term they used on the call last night was tissue thin. And I think it's important that you all just kind of go and educate yourself about what the actual charges are so you can kind of process how desperate an action this is. Because this is desperation. They're actually throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks at this point. I see that there's a hashtag, it's hashtag win with black women.
SPEAKER_01So time you guys are on your socials, this for the audience members, certainly just search that and you probably get a deep dive. Actually, probably a pretty broad overview as to what's happening in the marketplace. I'm so sorry I missed this call.
SPEAKER_00And they specifically a call to action was for us to kind of blitz our social media sites so that we are all knowledgeable. We talked a little bit, I say it in Jess all the time about sending out the bat signal. But we really need to kind of raise the alarm on this so there's an awareness and acknowledgement that we all need to come to the front. We've been trying to kind of blend the cut here. We're tired, we're exhausted out of the stand, but this is one of our own.
SPEAKER_02Right.
Outrage, Hypocrisy, And Global Optics
SPEAKER_00Um, so it's time to stand up. And you we saw that last night. That energy is so powerful. So learn what you can and then use your voice and your social media. And she's not backing down today. She was in New York City campaigning for Zoran Mamdami. So she's not cowering to anybody, so yeah, and plenty of um expect her to. For those of us in New York who know her well, we would not expect her to cower, and she's not doing that at all. Lots of very hot, I mean, people in the political sphere are supporting her on their platforms. I know that last week, Adrian Adams, well, when the indictment came down, she gave her own press conference saying that she's a hundred percent behind Tish here. And I mean, I'm certainly a hundred percent behind Tish in this regard as well. So, I mean, all that they're trying to do to bring her down is horrible. Yeah, all in retaliation, right? And retaliation. Yeah, that's infuriating because if you think about the hypocrisy of what you're trying to indict this woman on and compare that to some of the crimes that are being committed on the daily in our administration, you don't even really know how to process it. Like, where do you put that level of anger? And then when you see it in contrast with today's news, with this guy being lauded as like a hero in Israel, I'm like, how much more angry can you make the American public? You've got hundreds of thousands of people sitting on the sidelines, not knowing where their next paycheck is coming from, and you are campaigning basically in another country. Yeah, right. On the backs of our folks. So it's overwhelming. That's it. It's heavy, it's a lot. And you know, it's so confusing because I definitely am a follower of Christ, right? Sometimes I don't necessarily always describe that as Christian because Christianity, they're struggling with that identity right now. So I follow what I believe is the path of Christ. So I rejoice when there's peace, right? So you see if there's a peace agreement, you definitely want to rejoice about that. But it's really hard for me to watch anybody celebrate Trump. So you're always in a state of like being conflicted. You want to celebrate, but there's so much that's just unsettling about that whole situation, right? It's unsettling because you know we're celebrating the release of the hostage, but we really not talk about genocide.
SPEAKER_02Right.
Media Deals And Human Cost
SPEAKER_00There's still too much blood on everyone's hands out there. It's just still a lot of blood on there. Yeah, there's a reckoning that's just not happening. Yeah. And then when we talk about the whole spirit of confusion and evil, I mean, it's like you meant you said, this is very conflicting because you're right, we should be celebrating the peace agreement that they've come to. But then when I read the 20 point plan that they're trying to put out, all I can see is dollar signs that are coming back to Trump and his family. That's right. So it's like so conflicting. That part. To whose benefit? We know to whose benefit? Not ours. Well, if you read the 20-point plan, it's Jared Kushner who's gonna benefit from it. Yeah, that's really spelled out. Yeah. So it's so conflicting. Makes my head like want to explode. It's very heavy, it's very heavy. How do we manage that from day to day? Because it's a lot. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01People are selling things that I thought were priceless. That's what's happening now. Just all the settlements that he's gotten, the regulation of the media. There's gonna be a Trump Gaza. We know there's gonna be something there, right? Definitely something going on there. And just to see people just roll over and just send the checks in.
SPEAKER_00And that's what it's all about. That he was able to strike a deal. Like he deals with real estate, he deals with money, doesn't deal with people, doesn't deal with humanity. Everything's a business transaction. Exactly. People's lives are business transactions. And that's what I think about with this whole situation with Tish James. Here we are trying you're trying to like legislate her take doing her job. Meanwhile, on the reverse of that, you've fired hundreds of thousands of black women, and there's no discussion about any of that. Yeah, and now that the government is in the midst of a shutdown, right? He doesn't want to give them back pay, and he wants to fire even more people. And it's interesting who's silent, right? Because there's that saying, all that needs to happen for evil to exist in the world is for good people to be quiet, to be silent, right? So you know there's a whole slew of people. I'm just thinking about people that I have come in contact with and you know, whatever. Where are you all? Where is that voice? So it's interesting who's not speaking, who's not speaking up. I think that's very telling. It's heavy, folks. It is heavy. Yeah, you're bringing me down.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Soon this podcast is gonna be like watching the news, and I avoid that. I avoid what next show we need to make cookies or something. Yes, I agree. Bring our gardening. What? Go plant something. That's plant something.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
Joy Break: Shift To Self Care
Skincare Routines And Budget Finds
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna bring my dog on something. Or you know, we could bring our favorite chocolate chip recipes for my grandma's or something. Because this is we could talk about our beauty products. We could. I meant to bring my, I know that Denise light it up a bit, yeah. Advised us to bring our beauty products on this evening, and then we got all caught up in the Tish James situation. Yet another hot button issue. It's a lot, another hot button, but we should have been cleansing our pores. Yes, we needed a tall glass of water and our face. You know, it's like you suck it in, you gotta clean it out. We gotta exfoliate. We need to talk about exfoliation. Well, I have some foaming exfoliation cream here. What was that? Some La Roche Pose. I was what is it called? La Roche? Yeah, La Roche Pose. That's what I was using, and then I ran out and I went to get some, and CeraVay was on sale. Well, look, they changed the packaging, so that confused me. I didn't CeraVay because it was on sale. And I don't know, are y'all loyal, like brand loyal to your products, to your face products? I'm loyal down to two or three because I need to allow for some discount pricings, what's on sale. So for it is the Rochelle Posay, and it's also the Cervey for me. It's teaching oil for my hair. What's it called? Hold it up, hold it up so we can see. It's just general tea tree oil from my okay. For your hair. Oh, that's nice for the hair. When I put it on, how teacher oil smells, right? I smell like I'm 82, but that's okay. It's really that's how you know it's working. That's how it says that it's working. Um this is my go-to all-time favorite, the dub soap on the cleanser. You're gonna make me run and get my Vaseline. You're gonna take it all ivory because and let me ask you this question when did we stop? Maybe this is just me washing our face with soap. Because coming up as a kid, like speaking from the hot comb survivor platform, I washed my face with ivory soap. Like, I didn't have this, there was no no like cleanser. Right, this dub is an upgrade because they didn't have all that stuff with ivory. All we have was noxema. We had noxema. Jurgens. Who are you just because jurgens bring in? Jurgens. Oh, we tried to use Noxema, but it wasn't very good on my skin. I had to be heavy. I have to, I have to put some. I'm using, I like this. Like I wash my face. But we can't see it. I'm gonna show you first. This is okay. What's that? Oh, listen at the garden, all skin spice, right? Two with one cleanser. This is what I wash my face with. Okay, but then I'll go in with what do you call it? My cellular water. Yeah, I use my cellular water, and I kind of like like I could either use this or I can use what is this? This is the old standby, right? The witch hazel, because that's what I mean. Yes, hazel. That's the old hazard. And you know you're a woman of a certain age, yes. Hazel in the hazard is a great toner. This is a great toner, yeah. Yes, that's the perfect toner. So do you all use like I'm really a real amateur on this skincare routine. I just went to the dermatologist and found out I had hyper pigmentation, yeah. So she had all as many steps that I was supposed to, but I'm using uh hydroluronic acid. You all use hydro. Yeah, some of it is too harsh, right? So I was reading up the hydroluronic right acid. Yeah, acid is supposed to be like a lot of syllables. That's a big word. Yeah, first of all, like a they do have a lot of big words, hyaluronic, yes. Too many syllables, right? SAT hyaluronic, hyaluronic acid. This is a Marshall's. I get this from Marshall's. It's like$5.99. And I use ordinary from Ulta. That's good too. Ulta, I use ordinary. The ordinary products are actually pretty reasonable, and Ulta, I heard double down on their DEI initially. Yes, they did. I heard that too. There's another reason to go to Ulta. There you go. I'm all in the Ulta camp. So I go to Ulta, I get my ult, and my mother told me to use something seven, something like seven. I can't remember what it is. Now I'm using this, I think it's called seven. It's a moisturizer, very good. Oh, I don't know that. But when you said mother, the thing that came to my mind was the Pons cream, the moisturizing cream. Oh God. I remember when we were younger, we would use that Pons. Yep. That big old stubby jar. Yes, yeah. That's true, it's true. I also use this too. This is uh ille maquillage iPower. I use that. I can't use that, I can't use their products. This is my TikTok shopping obsession, and I find that it did help me with a little on the under-eye in terms of the under-eye hyperpigmentation. Is that the power re up? I have the power repeat. Yeah, yeah, this is excellent. What is it called? It's power up anti-aging brightness boosting eye treatment. I have the eye treatment, but I also have like it's like this uh I don't know, I don't want to call it a wrinkle cream, but it tightens up like the loose skin under the eyes. Well, I need to get that forehead and the forehead wrinkles is getting bad because I'm frowning all the time. So I gotta stop watching the news because I'm like, this is doing damage to my actual face because my face is always going, What? Yeah, so I get all that frowning stuff going on, but this is good, it's la maquiage too. It's power redo, but it's like this cream you put on that's supposed to like kind of give you the tighten up look. It's really good. I like their stuff. Question for you guys would you guys ever consider doing Botox? No, yeah, I wouldn't do that. Someone asked me a couple weeks ago, was I using Botox? I said, girl, I have to use it. I always want to do this. I always want to do this. I have to use this is hydroalonic acid can be.
SPEAKER_01I have to take needles for various medications, or when I go to the doctor. I am not voluntarily signing up to go somewhere so they can put some needles in there.
Sunscreen, Serums, And Sensible Steps
SPEAKER_00It scares me that the thought of you putting a needle in my face, but that whole yeah. No, thank you. No, thank you. Exactly. And then I got the niacin how you say this? Niacinamide. Okay. I use that. Uh-huh. This has zinc in it. I use like a whole bunch of uh what do you call these things? Serums. Well, that's fancy. I just got three things: this dull soap, the La Roche Pro se when I'm feeling like my skin is extra dirty, and then I have this moisturizer that I put this cream with my face. This miracle butter.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00It's got some good scents. This one is non-sented, but it feels great. And you can use it really on your whole body.
SPEAKER_01Do you guys have a regular regimen of like getting facials and things like that?
SPEAKER_00I was trying to get on a schedule, but you know, time always life disrupts the schedule. So I need to get back on schedule with those facials.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I used to see this black esthetician in Manhattan, but I don't work in Manhattan. I've got very little reason to go into Manhattan and go in there for the facials on a regular, just not happening.
SPEAKER_00I'm not doing that regularly. I'm really fanatical about sunscreen. You guys do sunscreen? I have like my moisturizer has it, and then I have its own pre-standing because yeah, like the older and I burn easy. Yeah, I was told to use uh kids' sunscreen. Yeah, I read that too. Yeah, just use that.
SPEAKER_01And usually you can get some of your makeup, like even your primer or your foundation with the sunscreen built.
SPEAKER_00But do y'all use the the cream sunscreens or the sprays? Yes. I usually use a cream with a tint. Yeah, I'm trying to find it here. I don't know what I did with it. I have Laura, she has a tent working with the okay. I use what's on sale. Use it and black girl sunscreen. Yes, the black girl, I like that one, and but I also like the super goop. They make a good one. Super goop, yeah. Super goop. Super goop. Okay, okay. And really, I'm out of ones that smell good. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01You may as well make sure they don't leave some weird cast on your skin. I guess that's why you have with the tint.
SPEAKER_00Right. I usually use mine either with the tint or with a glow, a little bit of a glow to it, because it just goes on nicer and it blends in nice with whatever I decide to put on. Like if I just put on powder, it'll just make the powder look nice.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00So it depends. I'm doing this because I literally just took a shower and I washed my face, and I was sitting here the whole time with a dry dry face, and it was driving me crazy. It was actually starting to hurt. Yeah. So I'm putting this stuff for all of my little. I will say that's the thing, the drawback with this La Roche prochet. I can't do it every day. It has to be like a every other day situation because it'll get it dries your skin, and I wind up then having to lather like a whole layer of moisturizer on. I love this because one of the reasons why I got away from what do you call that? The soaps and stuff, yeah, is because A would dry out my skin, but right here, I would still get buildup at the end of the day, like all these oils and stuff. This is the only product that's been able to keep my skin balanced and nice and clean. And then I don't get that buildup at the end of the day, that noticeable buildup at the end of the day. And it's not harsh. It's really, really, really gentle. So I absolutely love it. I've been using it for like too rich for my blood. What's that called? Elizabeth Arden. It's not even ten dollars. Hi. This is not even ten dollars. Like, are you kidding me? Me? But you know what else I use? I use vitamin C serum. See that I have to use every other day because vitamin C serum is for me is harsh. And you have to be careful with the sunlight. You have to be careful with the sunlight. So I try to if I do vitamin C, I do it in the evening. Otherwise, you gotta really make sure you've covered it well with some sort of sunscreen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I try to just do the vitamin C and I try to do it every other night because for the same reason. But I do think it gives the skin a nice glow, the vitamin C. I use this vitamin C clay mask.
SPEAKER_01The vitamin C clay mask. And I use that once. Oh, I'm trying to get it. I got this blur thing on. It's vitamin, it's gleaming. It's vitamin C clay mask, and I use that uh roughly once a week, once every week and a half.
SPEAKER_00It does help with hyperpigmentation. And you know, with that vitamin C, that skin's gonna be supple. It's gonna be nice and soft. Well, that's why they think you had both.
SPEAKER_02I usually right.
Hair Care, Edges, And Repair
SPEAKER_00I usually use that vitamin C with um, it's usually mixed with something else. I usually like it's a combination. So the vitamin C I have, I have it by itself, but I usually use it like this. It's advanced MD. It's like these little no-name things, but it has the collagen and the vitamin C together, which it doesn't seem to irritate my skin too much during the day. Does anybody use these types of things though? It's like a little vibrator, like the little face roller thingy, yeah. And it's like a massages your skin and yes, and it brings like the blood to the eyes. You know who I saw using this? Tracy Ellis. Oh, really? I was like, I might use that.
SPEAKER_01And I would get that use it once and never roll it on my face. Never do it again, right?
Balance, News Intake, And Water
SPEAKER_00Oh no, I do it like two to three times out the week because it's really, I don't know. I like the feeling of it, it's relaxing. What's the I need two or three steps and about five to seven minutes? That's me. That's perfect. Yeah, it's seven minutes pushing it. It doesn't really take, like if I'm not doing much of anything, I'll do this a couple of strokes because I like how it feels. But with the serums and stuff, I'll do like maybe three or four serums, but it's really, really quick. It doesn't usually take me, my skin regimen doesn't take me more than 10 minutes. Okay. See, it's that word doesn't it's that word serum. That's when stuff gets a little pricey. We're talking about serum. You're right. You're talking about serum. Oh, I I picked my stuff. Maybe it's me because I literally picked this stuff up from Marshall's, and most of them are like five, six, five, five ninety nine, six ninety nine, maybe seven. Ulta. So you know, Ulta, you know, they have those little baskets of little things leading up to register. And I assume because of baskets, that I'm thinking this is like the five below aisle right here. Pick up these little tricks, expensive, and I think little it'll be like$25 right here. And I'm on the line checking out. This woman said$25.99. I said, Man, I got that from this basket. She's like$10 or less. I know where you got it. Okay, okay. But I bought it, right? I said, go ahead, whatever. I love this little mask. I don't know who makes it or whatever. I have to go back now and try to see if I can replicate it. But I do it, I do it like maybe once a week. It just leaves the skin feeling so nice and fresh. And I love it. But had I known when I picked it up, I said, What? See, the retail landscape has changed because those are supposed to be in those little baskets in the front, like cheap impulse purchases, not 259. And it's not. Yeah, I look for the price or ask because I got caught out there like you, Lisa, and I'm like, yeah, no, that's ridiculous. So I usually ask before I get there because I know those little baskets right there, and they'd be tiny. I don't pick nothing up. They're not like full-size stuff. No, that's what tiny little thing is. How much did it cost? Are you serious? I had$10 in my head. What I was like, okay, fool me once. Shame on you. Twice. Not twice. What moisturizer you say you do use? The Ceree. Seven of you said the Ceree. Number seven. It's called number seven. And my mother, my mother recommended it because that's what she used. So it depends on how you like it. It's a heavy where do you get it from? I used to get it from Target, but now I can't go to Target anymore. Yeah, we don't. And so Ulta sells it. From Alta again. Right. Ulta for the wind. Ulta for the win. Right. Now, which number seven are you using? Is it a night? Let me go check. I'll be right back. So, along with the two in one, this is like my other thing that I've been using forever. Yeah. Because it's light, it's very lightweight. But the cleanser or the moisturizer? No, no, no, no. This is the moisturizing light. It's moisturizing lotion. So it's a body and face lotion, but it's lightweight hydration for everyday use. So that's what I use. So this is number seven damage reversal. I've seen that product. Wait, I'm trying to put it's damage reversal day cream. It has a sunscreen at an SPF of 25. They also have a night cream, a number seven night cream as well. The damage reversal is fun. You may have seen their commercials. They talk about it reverses the damage from when you were young. Used to go to sleep with your bake up on. Yeah. Now you all you realize. But they say it's good for that. But this, I just really like the way it feels almost. But does it smell good? Is it a night serum or peptide cleaner? Yes. It smells nice. It's um this, it isn't a serum. Okay. It's not particularly expensive. It's not a serum, it's a future renewed day cream. They also have the night cream, the PM version of this too. But it's good. I like it. Oh, I see it. Okay.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_00I have some oil of ole up here, too. I don't know what I did with it. I was just removing stuff around. My grandma used to use that oil of ole. It's a nice moisturizer, it's a nice night moisturizer. I have like Josie Marin stuff. And there's like this night, it's called nectar. It's milk something nectar. And that's really, really nice at night time. Sometimes I put that on along with an oil serum, Aragon oil serum, which I like too. And then I'll press that in at night. It depends. It depends. Tonight I just did whatever was right here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I gotcha.
Costco Chair Story And Boundaries
SPEAKER_00I put some sulfur in the bathroom. I was gonna that was taking it way back. Yeah, I smell like a hot mess between that and uh tea tree oil, but my scalp was tingling. Yeah, I know it was. I use this thing called Prospero by Prosper Wellness. It's an oil, but it has tea tree. Hold on. Let me see. Sorry. It has tea tree oil, it has all these different little I don't know, it's not echinacea. I can't see what it says here. I'm a jumbo for a minute, y'all. I got but it smells good, it smells so good, and it's good, and it's like when you put it on, like this is my little problem area over here. Oh, yeah. When I put this on, it does really begins to tingle. Huh? What is that? It's called it's by Prosper Wellness. It's a black-own. Oh prosper now, this might be it's called Root Revival. Oh, yeah. Hair Vitality Oil Develop Strength, uh, strengthen and repair. And this is a black-owned product, which I really like. Yeah, I had to go do the topics to help me get my edges back. I'm gonna probably need to do the same thing. So you probably gotta send me the name of that person because I'm using a couple of products. I'm using this other product, it has monoxinal in it called MACA. And it has, yeah. And it's supposed to help with when you have it is helping because I see a little bit more hair than I did six months ago. So when I went to the hair, the people to get my hair braided, I told them my edges are so gentle. Please be mindful. And I fell asleep, and she got this little edge here, and that hair has not grown back yet. So I've been really, really working on this little edge over here to get it back because it's damaged, the follicles were damaged. Wow. But I have this hyper pigmentation, I don't know what this is, but it's lighter. Can you see it? No, it's like right around my lips. It's a lot lighter. It's not as bad, it's not as prominent because I still have a little bit of a tan. Yeah. But as I go into the winter months, this and I need to figure out what this is. So you're gonna have to send me that information. Yep. Oh well. So we know black doesn't crack, but does require some maintenance and self-care. So that's maintenance and moisture, it requires moisture, and apparently vitamin C. Who knew? Who knew? Vitamin C and good food, too. Yeah, that helps. Because we do have to be careful what we're putting in our bodies, bodies, just true. Lots and lots of water and plenty of rest. Drink your water. Yeah, I have my water right and minding your business because that's your news intake, yes, and rest. Watch your news intake because it'll have you doing like this. Limit doesn't frown lines coming in. That's fine. Browning, yeah, it's tough. You try to stay out of the news, but sometimes it gets a little too crazy. You gotta jump back in just to see what the heck's going on. You have to be selective. So, y'all select Tish James. You gotta select a story, you make sure that's one of the ones that you all just while you're doing your nighttime routines. Let me just see what's going on, yeah, right with Tish.
SPEAKER_01Yep, this continues an attack on black women, right?
SPEAKER_00That's true, and then they will say, but it's not racist, really. Okay, that's something that racists always say, though. It's not racist, but that's what I mean about the gaslighting. That's true. The racists will say that, you know, and racist, it's super toxic. No, of course it's not. Right, I have a black friend. Yeah, I know. I have a black friend. I like it when people start their statement with, well, I'm not racist, but then you don't have to say that, right? Because if you're not racist, you don't have to identify yourself as not a racist. I don't have to go around and say, Well, you know what, I'm not a murderer because I just don't murder people, right? And then that speaks for itself, yeah. So your actions, your actions are like that, or speak violently. Right, don't do racist or say racist things, and you wouldn't have to start a statement with I'm not racist, because something racist always follows that.
SPEAKER_02Always, yeah.
Support Black Women And Rest
SPEAKER_00I'm not racist, but you about to do something racist, yeah. But this right here is racist, period. Yeah, it alerts me to say, okay, beep, beep, beep, racist radar is coming already. Something racist coming, something like blatantly racist, because racism is always present, right? But this is about to be in your face, blatant racism right now. So you gotta like clench up your butt cheeks. Make sure you don't cause those furrows in your line when you're serious to work. So you gotta be like, okay. What do you find yourself doing more to keep the balance? Because it's taxing, it's taxing to your mental status and your physical status. I also try to watch like everyone else does, right? Watch my intake on the media, but sometimes I'll be out and about laughing, living my life, and I'm like, oh sweat. Yeah, it's true. We're living in a dictatorship. Right, it's true. It'll hit you somewhere. You'll be like shopping and looking at avocados, squeezing to see which ones right, and then you get an emergency call for action. Yeah, you be a wegman spending your 200 on exotic fruit, right? And planning meal planning, and you're like, are you talking with your loved ones about whatever, whatever, and then you reflect on something you saw. Let me just tell you what happened. Speaking of which, I was in Costco. I'm in Costco's, they're on the good list, huh? They're Costco's on the good list, they are the good list. So I went to Costco's and I needed to go through my emails to find something. I forgot what I was doing. So they always have like a chair or something that they display it. So I went and sat down. This little swivel chair. It was cute and it was really, really comfortable. So I'm sitting here on my phone, mining my beautiful black business, right? Sitting here. This woman came up, put her hand on the side of the chair, said, How does it feel? And then she was acting like she didn't understand. So she took the thing, she moved it around, and then she's still on the chair. She took the chair that I was sitting in. She chuckled. I said, Hey, I'm sitting here. Oh, but how's that feel? How did it feel? Excuse me. I am sitting here. You can at least wait or ask me, can I check it out?
SPEAKER_01Unreal.
SPEAKER_00Just rude. And I had to take a deep breath because we can't act out of order. And then I went back and bought another$500 worth of grocery in closet. I said, then you went and bought another$500 worth of grocery. You know what I mean? I was like, calm down. Really? I said a prayer. I was like, Lord God, help me. Help me. Help me, Father. Because I could not believe that she did that. Just so oblivious. I don't know what you call that. I was outraged. I don't know about you. How would you react to that? Like, how do you react to that? I think outrage is appropriate, at least to feel that way. Yeah, I think the outrage. And then I think it's also appropriate to say, hey, you see me sitting here. I know that, but I mean Crazy lady. I don't know. You okay over there, sis? No, I'm just, what are you gonna do? As my youngest would say, What are you gonna do? We live in an outrageous world. Outrageous. This it's just ridiculousness. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I mean, all we could do is manage your intake and try to get a balance and really enjoy life. Really enjoy your people, really enjoy your village.
SPEAKER_00And drink a lot of water. Drink lots and lots of water. Drink a lot of water. I don't care what's wrong with me. I attribute it to the fact that I didn't have enough water that day. I'm like, I'm dehydrated. I'm dehydrated. I'm dehydrated. Three bottles of water, and usually I have four bottles of water. And that's why my big toe hurt. I didn't have enough. I don't care what it is. I will like draw a line back. Some water. So I did not have enough water. So crazy. Drink some water. Well, that's the moral of the story of the discussion, folks. Is that drink your water? That's the truth.
SPEAKER_01Get your balance, manage your intake.
SPEAKER_00And if you are gonna indulge, really think about supporting black women. Think about win with black women, that hashtag, see what's going on.
SPEAKER_01Actually, there's a lot going on, so it's not even gonna take you long to do a quick search and find out what's going on. And I know we're supposed to be resting, but you know us, right? When people really need us, we're gonna get you back. That's just how we're built.
Truth, Trash, Transformation Round
SPEAKER_00So true. So true. So any truth, trash, or transformation before we sign off, guys? And just share truth, trash. We're not going into a whole nother conversation because you know we will start over. Yeah. So it's truth, trash, transformation, and sign off. Okay. I got one truth. I do see that black women are under attack. That is a truth that I'm running up against in several different spheres. My truth is you gotta exfoliate. You gotta exfoliate your skin, but you also gotta exfoliate your spirit. Like you gotta make sure that you are cleansing and connected to the right thing. So exfoliation and also drink more water. Drink water. Yeah. I mean, you said a lot of truth before, Laverne, with taking action, being proactive. Yes, we're supposed to be resting, but you know, we're amazing. So we could do both. We can rest and we can call the action. We could do all types of things to be resistant. You can hold withhold your money, right? That's the truth. Withhold your money, withhold your time and your energy towards some of these negative things. Yes. And like Lisa said, exfoliate and exfoliate some of that ugliness. Take a hold of that, right? Like we're doing the self-care, but yeah, you need to do self-care. I think that's important. So that's a truth. And I also think part of the transformation is that as well as we're under attack, and that's truth and trash. The transformation part is that we're supporting each other and coming to the defense of each other. We skip trash. We're going in oddity. It's truth, trash, I said mine was truth and trash. Truth and trash. She did a two for one?
SPEAKER_02Yes, I did a two for one. She did a two-for.
Closing Reflections And Sign Off
SPEAKER_00She did a two-for. Where's your trash? It all sucks. Gotcha. Denise. That racism is still a thing. It's a made-up thing that is literally consuming this country and this world. That's the trash. I think the trash is that I never get to feel safe. Like I never get to feel like everything's okay. And the only thing that's like really kind of gluing me together is faith. Right? Because at the the end of it, you know either way is gonna be all right because you know who you serve and who's ultimately in charge. But there's just this constant sense not being safe. And I think that's trash. Yeah. And the transformation, folks? Well, for me, I guess what comes to my mind is when we on the call, the quote, the scripture kept coming up the weapon that's formed against me shall prosper. That I know, like there's gonna be weapons, right? And they're gonna be formed, but they shall not prosper. And that's my transformation. I'm gonna transform and looking forward to it, not prospering, not letting all of this ugliness take me down. I'm gonna live in my amazingness, right? As we all are amazing black women, right? I'm gonna live in that. Yeah. And I'm gonna take that word in my heart. I want to steal Denise's transformation. Yeah, that's a nice transformation. I like that transformation. I like it. And I think it connects with being on the call last night and just seeing all that wonderful energy. Like no matter what you do, it's a Maya and we live in Maya Angeloupa. You can beat me down all you want, but still I rise, right? And so I just call it, I hear you. Because you know me and Maya. Well, we go way, way back. But yeah, so I think that's the transformation. Like you're feeling down and you're feeling like, oh, it's just too much, but you're not in this by yourself. So I think that was great. Yeah, I think the transformation is how we're covering Letitia James. We are looking out for each other more broadly, right? And I know it was a last-minute call, it was a Sunday night, everybody's doing weekend wrap-up, preparing for work, but they did it. And wonderfully, I might add. Yeah. It was the presentation, it was a little bit over an hour, but it was so impactful and so much, so full of information and inspiration. I thought it was wonderfully executed.
SPEAKER_01Agreed.
SPEAKER_00Totally agree.
SPEAKER_01All right, guys. It was good uh chatting with you guys about what's going on in the world today, trading some beauty not so secrets anymore. Um, and thanks guys for listening. And until the next time, talk to you later. All right.
SPEAKER_00Peace out.
SPEAKER_01Peace out.
SPEAKER_00Take care, guys. Have a good night.
unknownI know it's the lights are on and uh if I was the lights in home, I'm with the shirt.
SPEAKER_02Uh I know it's the lights are on and uh if I can light home, I wouldn't shirt.
