38: No time to cook then outsource

Veet Season 1 Episode 38

So many people tell me they just don’t have time to cook. Life is super busy and cooking just gets shoved to the back burner. Pun intended.

Well, I have the solution for you. You need to outsource.

Have you listened to podcast #15 where I share with you 3 great ways to cook for yourself, even if you have limited time. If you answered yes and are still not managing to cook for yourself on a regular basis, I have the answer for you.

You need to outsource.

Yahoo, you may think – I never have to cook again.

AHA

That is not what I mean – you don’t need to outsource cooking

you need to outsource other things.

In this podcast, I talk about ways you can prioritise cooking and making time to cook, by outsourcing other chores and activities.

You need to outsource.

Yahoo, you may think – I never have to cook again.

AHA

That is not what I mean – you don’t need to outsource cooking,

you need to outsource other things.

In this podcast, I talk about ways you can prioritise cooking and making time to cook, by outsourcing other chores and activities.

Because if you don’t cook for yourself for at least some of the time, you are denying yourself -

1. The ability to really nurture yourself – if you can’t feed your body, well then, all other self-care activities are just not going to cut it.

2. You can’t rely on take-out, Uber, or meal deliveries to give you the nutrients your body really needs.

3. The basic right to take care of yourself through feeding yourself

4. The real possibility of actually enjoying cooking.

5. It's impossible to buy organic take out.

Now, I know some people will say. ut I’ve never enjoyed cooking,

and maybe that is because you have been time poor, or you only ever cook as an afterthought, when you are already super busy, or you were criticised as a kid when you cooked, or you are self-critical of what you make.

Everyone who cooks with me in courses never ever settles for the food tasting good – it always needs to taste sensational, and that doesn’t mean you need to buy a gazillion ingredients with weird names and be able to present the food like a Michelin star chef.  No, it means you just learn to balance the flavours in a way that suits your own palate, and you display it in a loving manner on your dinner plate each night.  These are skills you can easily pick up yourself, or if not, then the vegan foundation cooking course is the place to really get you enjoying cooking and getting your food to taste good.

Ok, so what does this have to do with outsourcing?

I say, if you don’t have time to cook, then outsource – I don’t mean outsource cooking.

No way – that is far too fabulous an activity to hand over to someone else.

Find other things to outsource.

Like in my business, as I got busier, there was no way my cooking time was going to suffer, so I employed a PA (that is Mak ) to do a lot of the admin things.

We used to have a cleaner, many moons ago – this was a fabulous way to outsource an activity, so I could still get in the kitchen and cook each day.

These days we outsource our window cleaning and we have Debbie Bacuumy – she is our automated vacuum cleaner.

Gardening could be outsourced, so could laundry. Imagine if you ate out 4 nights a week, or got take out that is around $120 a week on food. You could pay a laundry service to wash, dry and fold your clothes.

Or you could get someone to do your shopping for you. Maybe you don’t want to use a grocery service, I get it.  You want to support local, so you could ask a teenager who wants some extra pocket money to do your shopping for you.

I don’t know, but you can get super creative.

Outsource your car being washed.

Outsource someone doing your dishes, you could pay them in food – or get yourself a dishwasher.

Outsource anything you can, but just don’t outsource cooking, as you really can miss out on something so beautifully delicious.

What other things have I missed that you can think of that you can outsource?

Ok, if I am talking about not outsourcing cooking, then let’s give you a fabulously simple recipe for you to get started on.

Roast veg, tofu and salad

One of the tofu marinades from podcast #37

Any veg that you like to roast – if you are solo, you can make a full tray and take it to work the next day, or eat it again for dinner the next night.

Things I like to roast:

Potato

Sweet potato

Pumpkin

Fennel

Beetroot

Carrot

Brussels

Mushrooms

Cauliflower

Potato, pumpkin and carrots take longer to cook, so put them on the tray first, with a lovely splash of olive oil, then place them in a 200 °C heated oven and bake for 10 minutes, then add the other veggies – you can sprinkle on salt too.

The veggies will then take 30 minutes to cook.

If I am in a rush, I will cut the veggies smaller.

Then, while the veggies are cooking, I fry the tofu or place it in another baking tray and oven-bake it.

Wash some lettuce and mix with the cooked veg, and sprinkle on some lemon juice and olive oil or balsamic vinegar, depending on what marinade you chose for the tofu.

FCT

Wash up as you go. This makes life in the kitchen so much easier. So by the time you sit down to eat, you only have the saucepan you were cooking in or the baking tray you were baking on to wash up.

Hope you have a fabulous week and please share this podcast with those you think will enjoy it.
